  • "The mussels were excellent! Not a bad one in the bunch and between us we had probably 5 pounds. Way too much food for 2 of us but it was our first time and will moderate next time. All in all a good value and the service was great. Will be back next time we are craving those tasty mollusks! "

  • "Mannequin Pis is a wonderful destination in Olney - great food, enticing specials, decent wine selection, great beer! Our party of 4 had no complaints - we started with the mussels, and all had a seafood entree. If you like mussels, this is THE place - they have a large number of different preparations for steamed mussels, and I've never had a bad experience, though I have my favorites! Our entrees were perfectly cooked. The bread is a bit bland, but the pomme frites are terrific! The service was attentive, and food came out in a timely manner."

  • "One doesn't need to go to DC or Bethesda to be treated to an excellent (and genuine Belgian) cuisine. The food and service have always been consistent, we have never been disappointed there."

  • "My boyfriend and I dined at Mannequin Pis at 9:30pm this weekend. The restaurant was still very crowded and full, having to wait for a table. The restaurant is tiny and the tables are on top of one another. Our waiter was a rude, pretentious French (or Belgian) gentleman who seemed annoyed at our very presence. When we ordered drinks they were out of almost everything!!! My boyfriend wanted a Delirium beer, but they were out- then the waiter brings him a Chimay (without consulting us)- $14 a pop! They were out of the escargots too. Mussells' special was disappointing too. The only decent thing was the Lobster Bisque- very good. Our server was just rude and presumptious- we won't be back. Very Disappointing."

  • "So delicious from start to finish, mussels were outstanding! Salads wonderful, fresh fish and well prepared breast of chicken with a sour cherry sauce Pot 'oh Chocolate - indescribably tasting, could have a better presentation on dessert, otherwise evening was wonderful!"

  • "Very small restaurant, which may make you feel a little claustrophobic if busy. The food was very good and our server was attentive but, did not hover."

  • "Quaint small European restaurant environment, outstanding list of Belgian beers, good wine list. Excellent menu with out of the ordinary items such as wild boar and venison sausages and of course, the extensive selection of oyster pots."

  • "Great menu of Belgian beers and if you like mussles, they have a great variety of choices. Small neighborhood feel."

  • "Great experience. Dined with 5 friends and all agreed the food and service was fantastic. All agreed to return."

  • "The mussels and the beer selection are amazing. Many times we just order a salad, sometimes a sausage selection, and split a pot of mussels. if you can dine here during the week it's much less crowded and romantic."

  • "Arrived on time for a 7:45 reservation to be told that our table was still occupied by other guests (there were 4 other empty tables available). We had to wait for 30 minutes for the other patrons to leave our table while the other tables remained unfilled. The restaurant is small, so there's no where to wait - either you stand in the doorway or you stand in the parking lot. When we were finally seated, we were cramped into a corner. Food was ok - nothing fabulous. Husband ordered the special. It was burnt but he didn't want to send it back because we had been waiting so long to eat. I've been here twice now and don't understand the hype. I don't think there will be a third visit."

  • "We've eaten here 5 or 6 times and have never gone further on the menu than the 2 pages of steamed mussels. A full meal and many seasonings and recipes to choose from. Also great selection of Belgian beers and a nice wine menu. Great ambiance and service."

  • "This was our second visit to Mannequin Pis, and it is a new favorite restaurant. Who would have thought that such a cool place would be hidden in this tiny strip mall in downtown Olney? My wife had the carbonade flamande stew again; it's her favorite dish there. The buckets of mussels are always spectacular, and this time, I tried the venison blueberry sausage, potato leek soup, heart of palm salad, and brussel sprouts, and was blown away!! Great selection of Belgian beers and ales, and the wine list looked decent too. A cozy, romantical place, with a pleasant and knowledgeable staff, it is just an overall gem!!! Highly recommend!!"

  • "After living in Brussels for two years, we were delighted to find this restaurant to indulge in our favorite Belgian meal: mussels and frites. The number of choices of how the mussels are prepared are only exceeded by the extensive list of Belgian beers. And if you aren't a mussel's fan, the menu offers numerous, creative options -- especially on the weekend menus (e.g., wild mushroom soup, sauteed frog legs). The excellence in food is consistent throughout -- from appetizers and salads to main course to desserts (including, of course, several Belgian chocolate options). If you prefer a quiet and/or romantic atmosphere, go on a Sunday-Thursday night; if you want a lively crowd, go on the weekend and be sure to make reservations."

  • "For mussel fans, this is THE best place in the area. I like it much better than Mussel Bar in Bethesda. Their regular menu is also very nice so you are not limited to mussels. Beer and wine list also very nice. I recommend reservations since the place is small"

  • "Once again, had a wonderful meal with great beer! Had baked mussels for the first time and highly recommend them. Service is attentive in this tiny gem! Would like to hear some vintage French-Belgian music to cover the closeness of tables."

  • "I think they charge too much for drinks. A bottle of Stella Artois is $9.00 for an 11-oz. bottle that costs ~$1.20 in the store."

  • "Both my girlfriend and I went for the first time. This place is a hidden gem in a small strip of restaurants off Georgia Ave in Olney. The place is small and has no bar area for the casual diner/drinker. I made reservations. The small tables and decoration create an intimate ambiance. We split escargot and sausage appetizers and then ordered mussels. This is the place you go to if you like mussels. They have about 10+ variations on the menu and the two we tried were well prepared. 1kg per serving is a decent amount of mussels! The beer selection is OUTSTANDING and presented in the proper Belgian glassware. This is a classy little joint. I highly recommend it and I'll be back."

  • "For appetizers we had the smoked salmon (excellent) and the lobster bisque (superb). Entrees were filet mignon (their special that night) and mussels with wild mushrooms. The filet was tender and very flavorful, mussels were good, a huge serving, but the mushrooms were hard to find. Lovely ambiance. Service was attentive."

  • "We have been to Belgium and the food at Mannequin Pis was reminiscent of the times we were in Belgium. The service was fine and everything we had from the menu was delicious. The restaurant was somewhat crowded; but that is to be expected on Valentines Day."

  • "This was my first visit to this restaurant and I can tell you it won't be my last. Although the restaurant is small and quint don't be fooled the food is fantastic with large portions. The mussel's are to die for and everything we tried was delicious. I would recommend it to anyone celebrating a special occasion. LOVED IT."

  • "As always the food was top notch. I have eaten here many times and have always been pleased. The only draw back is Montgomery Counties foolish alcohol wholesale rules that result in fine restaurants like this one not being able to properly stock beer and wine. The People's Republic really needs to get out of the booze business."

  • "This place is a hidden gem. We went there for Valentines Day and my wife loved it. I loved it too! A little pricey (ouch!) but worth every penny, especially for a special occasion."

  • "This is such a quaint restaurant and the perfect spot for a romantic dinner. I love the mussels, but all the seafood dishes are outstanding. The servers are very helpful when it comes to navigating the Belgian beer and wine menu. All in all, this is a great spot for a quiet dinner with your loved one."

  • "True Belgian fare. Excellent mussels. Very nice selection of Belgian beers (although my first choices were not available, I still enjoyed the one I ordered very much)."

  • "We have been to Mannequin Pis twice and if we lived closer we would be regulars. The mussells are their specialty and they have several selections to choose from. The staff are knowledgable, friendly and unobtrusively attentive. The food is amazing! It isn't a large restaurant, so a reservation would be a good idea."

  • "This is a Belgian style restaurant. Service is good, the menu is fairly compact and there are options within the menu. What I appreciate is that you can 'customize' your order depending on your party and moodl. The most recent trip was with my wife and a couple who were about to return to Alaska. The male friend and I decided we wanted 'mussels and beer' so we ordered a kilo bucket and a Belgian beer sample. Very good and very engaging. Meanwhile the ladies enjoyed their food and conversation. So a 'customized' evening was had by all. Summing up, the food is always exceptional and the mussels are the best you can find and if you like Belgian beer ....."

  • "We hadn't been here in a number of years since we don't live nearby. Our meal was just as outstanding as we last remembered and the dining experience was superb. Superb service, excellent food, lovely ambience. It was jarring when we stepped outside and realized we weren't in Belgium! We will be back soon - it is well worth the extra drive to get to this gem of a restaurant."

  • "Don't let the exterior fool you....this is a quaint "little" place with amazing mussels prepared in steam pots many different ways I feel like I am back in Belguim again. My husband found this place online several years ago when we were looking for something new. It is about an hour drive for us. The first time we arrived, I almost cringed at the alley to surrounding strip shopping center( not the RIte Aid center)...it is hidden behind in another. However we have been back several times and keep taking different people with us. All of who have loved it.. It is truly a hidden gem. Beer and wine only."

  • "Went for the mussels and beer, and had both. Loved the mussels, and good beer, although a lot to choose from and we barely knew the difference among all the varieties. Very small, tight accommodations but we didn't mind - either did the man who had to get up so we could get to our seats - he was very pleasant and didn't seem to mind the interruption."

  • "We were a little sure from the outside (located in essentially a strip mall), but the inside was welcoming and well-decorated. Excellent selection of Belgian beer. The bread was fantastic. Had the heart of palm salad and thoroughly enjoyed it. Husband has a delicious sausage. Then we shared the Red Devil mussels and they were wonderful - many, many muscles, excellent seasonings good addition with onion and celery, and NO grittiness. We are really looking forward to returning. Our waiter was also very attentive and kind throughout."

  • "Extensive list of Belgian bottled beers, lots of dishes with mussels and other seafood. Fairly noisy small room with about 20 tables. The saffron mussel cream soup was very tasty. Perhaps it was a mistake to follow that with seafood risotto, which was also excellent, but a similar cream sauce. My partner had grilled lamb, which was juicy and tasty as well. Finished with a shared ice cream with Kahlua and whipped cream."

  • "We love this small bistro that tries to emulate a Belgian pub. Yes, the tables are close and if it gets crowded you can hear the neighboring table's conversation. BUT, they serve some of the best mussels on this side of the Atlantic, a rack of lamb to die for and one of the best ale selections around the area. Our waiter is always attentive. Makes for an enjoyable dining experience."

  • "Only downside is that the tables are so close together that you heard every conversation going on."

  • "We had the lobster bisque (amazing) the Mango & Scallop Salad and a variety of mussels. The food was delicious and I left very full. The mussels are hard to finish because the portion they serve is so big but hard to stop eating because they are so delicious. The ambiance could use a little work. The lighting is a little hard where I prefer a softer, more dimly lit dining experience. Other than that, it was a great night out."
