  • "This would be considered a neighborhood gem IF you had more space to sit. I am serious when I say that you can easily eat off your neighbor's plate at most tables. This makes for a very noisy environment which is ok if your neighbors are nice people. It's not a restaurant for children and the owners are very up front about it, but people still bring their kids. Our server, Eduardo, was wonderful, as always, but the other male server (who I heard speaking French to my neighbor) was obnoxious. I asked for salt for my pommes frites and he gave me real attitude."

  • "The new owners have too many offers going so it's hard to figure out which to use. It was half off wine night, so we opted for that. At the end of the meal, we were told the bottle we picked didnt qualify! Also, the food quality was very good, but not as good as the old chef. Finally, the host was too snobby and the staff needs better english. This is not the MP of old. Go to Brasserie Beck in Kentlands(even though a chain), it is Very nice."

  • "This is our third visit to Mannequin Pis as the first visit the food was excellent and I raved about the caldron of steamed mussels for days. The second and third visit however, were disappointing and I had coaxed my parents into joining us for their specialty of steamed mussels seasoned in various flavor combinations. The flavor however, was Flat. It lacked either garlic, salt or wine or all of the above and so it made the meal tolerable instead of fantastic. They do not have any condiments available on the table, so one has to insist the waiter/waitress to bring some, so the patron is intimidated in asking. Décor is of makeshift flea market finds so a bit dingy and dark like sitting in someone's attic. $40./person w/o drinks."

  • "When I patronized this restaurant 10 years ago, the food was amazing, service outstanding, and there was always a line out the door, waiting to get a seat. That has changed drastically in the past 5 years or so. I'm almost certain the original chef is no longer there, since the food is just so-so and expensive at that."

  • "This is a great local place for authentic Belgian cuisine. The ambiance is intimate but not quite quiet enough for a first date or proposal dinner as the tables are close together. Not a kid friendly restaurant but perfect for a date night escape. Great beer and wine list."

  • "We had Theater tickets So, we ordered an appetizer and mussels which I thought would be quick. He flies into a temper, screaming that it will take over an hour to cook mussels... Then waiter LIES and says that they are out of mussels for the evening...it was only 7:15 So, I said forget about the mussels, that we'll share the appetizer and one meal, then he comes back and says that a shipment of mussels had just come in. I don't usually write bad reviews but this experience was just dreadful. We have come to this restaurant a few times, but this is most definitely our last visit!"

  • "Everything was good including the delicious mussels. Beer list is lots of fun, given that it has bottles you don't often see elsewhere."

  • "My husband and I took our goddauther to dinner. The food is always consisitently good. It is a bit difficult to find if you do not know where it is. My husband and godchild had mussels. I had the Branzino which was very good"

  • "Nothing special. Hardly had any of the beers on the menu and I am not sure MC liquor control board is the real culprit. We used to visit often under the original owners but this was lackluster at best in comparison."

  • "Their muscle pots are the best with many broths to choose from... Highly recommend the 'snob' broth made with a splash of their lobster bisque. The beer list is amazing with many Belgium beers to choose from to complement your meal. Wine list is good too. And to top it off the 'pot if chocolate' is rich and creamy.... The perfect ending."

  • "little place with huge cuisine, real fine taste of Europe excellent food, beer and wine choices."

  • "We have not been here in years - in the early 2000s, it was one of our favorite restaurants. To see a once great restaurant deteriorate so far is sad - the waiter was nice, but proceeded to tell us about how the restaurant had got in trouble and needed to check everyone's ID in far too much detail. The mussels were overcooked. I ordered a medium rare steak special, the result was shoe leather and clearly had sat under a heat lamp. They remade it, but the meat was still inedible. They kindly took off the price, but I would have rather had dinner."

  • "We dined at Mannequin Pis with another couple after seeing "Avenue Q" at the Olney Theatre. We were pleased with the varied menu, since I recalled the place as being mainly mussels. Two of us got mussels and the others a steak and a spicy lamb sausage. Everything was tasty. I was surprised by the potato-leek soup, which had large chunks of potato in it which I'd never encountered before. My girlfriend was disappointed that her Hear of Palm salad only had on artichoke heart in it. We will return after future Olney plays."

  • "Excellent service, great food and friendly staff. While the location/outside appearance lacks personal charm and warmth, you're immediately transported to another world once you step foot into the restaurant--and that's where all the magic and charm resides. Conveniently located a few blocks from Olney Theatre Center, so a great spot to dine before seeing a show. Highly recommended...the pork loin and trout wrapped in bacon were my favorites!"

  • "Everything was just fine here. We've been a number of times before. The quality has always been very good. Adequate wine list although it's odd there is no Pinot Gris choice. It can be a little "tight", as it is a very small restaurant...."

  • "My family REALLY liked the mussels and beer, which is why we went, of course. But for me, who doesn't drink beer or eat meat or seafood, it was a pretty dull event. (except for the company, of course)"

  • "Come here for the mussels. You get a pot of them that is almost impossible to finish. The fries that come with them aren't anything special, just standard shoestring. Ask for a ton of bread to soak up the broth from the bottom of the pot, that's the best part. I've been here 6-7 times, always good. No dead mussels any time, had one slightly broken on my last visit but otherwise very good."

  • "The food was superb, from mussels special to wild boar/cranberry sausage with red cabbage/brown sugar glaze. The café glace dessert was exquisite, and the Belgian beer selection is very good. What was strange is that we were not permitted to stagger our order. Our table was tiny, and the three dishes wouldn't fit on it along with our beer and water glasses and the bread. We wanted the mussels as an appetizer, then the sausage as a main course, but we weren't allowed to do that. The server went a bit far in telling us that we shouldn't have the cabbage/brown sugar side because it was "too sweet" with the boar/cranberry sausage, but other than that the service was good. The room was a bit noisy, but jovial."

  • "There are no words that adequately describe how amazing the mussel pots are!! The fragrant broth just enhances the delicate flavor of the mussels. Be sure to ask for extra bread to dip in the broth"

  • "I could go on but the experience was totally delightful. The Food, service, and Ambiance were fantastic. The Mussels were out of this world, and our food was prepared to perfection. Highly recommend this place. if you like Mussels. They prepare them in so many ways."

  • "I always enjoy eating here. It is very nice inside and has great decor and slightly dimmed lighting which is perfect. The food is consistently very good as well. They have a beef stew that is fantastic and I had one of the pheasant sausages which was the best I have ever had."

  • "Love Mannequin Pis! Have been several times now and the food is always outstanding. If you like mussels, this is THE place to go, and the carbanade flambande is amazing. Incredible beer list! I've seen complaints that the beers are expensive, and the availability of each varies, but they clearly state on the menu that its partly due to Montgomery County liquor laws and taxes, which is believable. They are all pretty unusual imports too. "

  • "My wife and I have been eating at Mannequin Pis for years now though this is the first time I've been asked to write a review. The first time we came, we did not know what Belgian cuisine was about; we merely came because we were interested in taste testing Belgian beers! Well, in addition to the delectable selection of Belgian beers, we found out that mussels are the centerpiece of authentic Belgian dining. We had never been big mussel eaters in the past, but we gave it a try and fell in love. Certainly, Mannequin Pis has other rotating appetizers and entrees that are tasty in their own right, but we always get the mussels now. There are so many flavors to try and we have, but our favorite is the Red Devil. Oh, btw the beers are top notch!"

  • "I have been going to Mannequin Pis for the better part of a decade, and while the food remains good, the service has definitely slipped. The wait staff are difficult to attract, and seemed to have a difficult time taking our order. With other Belgian restaurants now available in the area with equally good beer and food selection, Mannequis Pis may have lost its premier status. "

  • "I found this via OpenTable and I was led to another fine restaurant. A local place that I finally visited. A true Belgium one and known for the mussels. They were worth every drop and bite. A must have. Server was spot on with choices. Fish was nicely done and wonderful flavor. Good wine picks. Will be back"
