  • "We were on vacation in SLO and wanted Italian food and oh my gosh, did we find it!!! This was the best italian food EVER with good prices and great service!!! From the Meatballs to the lasagna and of course who could forget the Garlic Knot bread, ALL WONDERFUL!!! Best sauce I have ever tasted. We also indulged in Mama's homemade ricotta cheesecake (so light, not to sweet and of course scrumptious), and the homemade gelato, what can we say except DELICIOUS!!! Atmosphere was cozy and very inviting. We will go back when we return to SLO."

  • "We love Mama's Meatball. Every time we are in San Luis Obispo, we always dine at Mama's Meatball. We love the food and of course their desserts as well and the staff are super friendly. This visit was even more memorable because we had the pleasure of meeting "Mama" and that made our dining complete."

  • "Plenty of selections, attention to detail by chef and maitre d; best to have reservations if arriving for evening meal after 7pm. Next door, from same kitchen is a take out service, handy of restaurant full and you must have Italian dishes.. parking available, in a court tucked away from street."

  • "We felt lucky to find such a nice Italian restaurant at the last minute traveling north on 101. Service is outstanding, food very good with a great selection. We will definitely be back - lots more to try!"

  • "There were five of us and we all found the main dishes to be delicious. Then we tried three desserts, all were fresh and wonderful. The actual restaurant is small inside but the way it was decorated made it whimsical and fun to be in. We will come back in the future."

  • "Charming little spot with great authentic Italian dishes as well as desserts. Nice touches of sugar coated rose petals on some of the dishes. Had a very nice Mothers day brunch there. Staff and owner checked on us frequently. great people, great food."

  • "Mama's is our "Go To Place" ! The food is very reasonable and always great! A very good wine list that starts in the 20's and works it's way up. The menu has a wide range but I love the seafood pasta is incredible. If you are looking for a fast dinner this is not the place for you. We celebrated our 44th here and we still like talking to each other and there is time for that. Turning tables is not their goal!!"

  • "First time at this restaurant and will return. On the spot service from the time we entered the restaurant until we left. Celebrated Mother's Day and my son's birthday. Enjoyed the specials and pasta dishes. All were well prepared and very tasty. My son said he will return on a date. It was a clean and nicely decorated like an outdoor French cafe. Nice place all around!"

  • "We went to Mama's for Mother's Day lunch and had a very enjoyable and delicious meal. The service was perfect and everyone enjoyed! I believe this is family run and many of the recipes are unique. There were many specials among the extensive main menu. And yes the meatball are great. The restaurant is somewhat hidden in the Creamery, but worth the endeavor for a great meal and reasonable prices. We will definitely return on our next trip to Cal Poly. Truly a find! "

  • "We visited in February 2014 and cannot wait to go back. The pasta is made in-house, salads were fresh and the sauces proprietary, unique and tasty. I had the lasagna and the Mrs. fettuccini. Both of us agree, a great hole-in-the-wall find. Expect to wait particularly without a reservation, and also hope someone has a birthday as the staff really plays it up in a genuine "happy-to-have-you-celebrating-here" way. "

  • "Couple people said service was a nightmare, but Krishna waited on us and a more mature gentlemen was there as well. We were promptly greeted, seated, had drinks, took dinner order and food arrived promptly, although dining room was mostly full. Overheard several people tell wait staff how good their meal was. Romano Chicken was TERRIFIC - amazing sauce! Chianti wait staff recommended was very nice too. Not a huge fan of west coast take on Tiramisu."

  • "I loved this eatery in the past. They changed menu and plates. The plates make the food look unappetizing. The portions are smaller and the Osso Bucco was tough, undercooked, and $24.00 for 4 bites. So disappointing with our meal and experience. We will not be back anytime soon. We will let everyone we know not to expect much if they go. Bummer! We used to really enjoy this place. Nothing last forever."

  • "The minute I walked in, I got an unfriendly vibe from the waiters. They seemed very in personable and awkward for being in such a nice restaurant. All I expect is a friendly smile, glass of water, and a "how is everything?" Is that too much to ask? Instead, I was just rushed to my seat wear is at for ten minutes without so much as a friendly greeting. All three waiters just seemed unfamiliar with interacting with customers. One even insulted me right in front of my family about picking up the tab. As for the food, it was delicious. Great portions and prices. However, because I never want to interact with the service again, I may not be going back. "

  • "My wife and I have dined at Mama's Meatball a number of times. After the first 3 or 4 times, we were recognized by name and promptly seated. The waiters have always been friendly, attentive and competent. It feels like coming home when we eat at Mama's Meatball. This restaurant is great for most occasions unless you're looking for something quiet and/or private. The tile floors and hard walls do make for a noisier atmosphere and the tables are pretty close together so it's not possible to guarantee your conversation remains private. The food at Mama's Meatball is delicious but just a tad pricey. You more than get what you pay for though so it's definitely worth a splurge every now and then."

  • "Mama's Meatball is a family-run restaurant in the Creamery in San Luis Obispo, offering a wide selection of both southern and northern Italian favorites including thin crust pizza, eggplant parmagiana & risotto con funghi. They have a wide selection of both local and Italian wines to accompany their food, and desserts made by Mama Allegreta herself. The linguini with seafood I had was outstanding and the chocolate torte was wonderful."

  • "We went to this restaurant based on reviews on Open Table. We were not disappointed. There was a group of 9 of us and we had a very nice evening. the food quality and flavor was excellent from the appetizers to the desserts. Our waiter was very helpful and attentive. He gave us recommendations of dishes to try and again we were not disappointed. For the price we paid including two bottles of wine it was well worthwhile and affordable! We will visit again!"

  • "Service was extremely slow....and not because they were busy, frankly our waiter just didn't seem to care. Our table of four walked in and the two servers for the dining room were standing by the bar talking. They didn't acknowledge us, they just kept on with their conversation before finally seating us. The server then didn't come to take our order for a good 15 minutes. He was very knowledgeable and honest about the menu which we liked. But frankly it was so empty in there at this point that it seemed like he was trying to be slow or just didn't care about our table. We skipped dessert because we had somewhere to go, and good thing too, it took us 10 minutes for him to run our check. The food tasted great so I'll just stick with to-go."

  • "Comfortable table for 5 looking out across the high-ceilinged and attractive dining room - waiter had an authentic and engaging personality. Margherita pizza shared as an appetizer was splendidly thin-crusted and oozing with quality mozzarella - liked it. Dishes ranged from rigatoni with sausage (smaller portion than other dishes), lasagne with side meatball, pesto/chicken lasagne (tasty, but tad rich), seafood pasta (good), and nightly special - mushroom ravioli with gorgonzola cream (good). Beet salad was nice, the Caesar needs a little oomph. Tasty garlic knots (on the table) and desserts - really liked the cannoli. Nice large glasses of wine too. Attractive, pleasant environment for enjoying unpretentious/satisfying Italian food."

  • "Although the main dining area is small, I've never had to wait (I do recommend reservations on weekends). The ambiance can be a little loud and the seating cramped but once you're comfortably seated, it melts into a cozy dining experience. I'm aware the service has a reputation for being slow but I've yet to encounter a problem. I've dined here 3 times and immensely enjoyed the risotto, ravioli and lamb shank. Guests I brought seem drawn to the 12" individual pizzas and the ones who have been to Italy are impressed with their authenticity. The wine and corkage prices seem reasonable as well as dessert prices. I've always left immensely satisfied and felt my business was appreciated. Mama's gets an unqualified recommendation from me."

  • "We attended for a birthday celebration. The food was good although portions very small. When we reminded the waiter that it was a birthday in our party he acknowledged. Shortly later he simply plopped a candle on a bare plate down in front of my daughter. A short while later the entire staff sang happy birthday at another table. When we asked our waiter what happened he said " you don't want to hear me sing." I was greatly disappointed. We sang on our own. This was the only time ever I did not leave one cent for a tip, but did write in the tip line "sing". I hope they got the point."
