Palo Alto neighborhood favorite MacArthur Park relaunched in April 2008 with the original chef and owner. Faz Poursohi (of Faz Restaurants) and Restaurateur Chuck Frank (formerly with Spectrum Foods, owner of 16 upscale eateries) are at the helm and have revitalized this historic landmark designed… by Julia Morgan in 1918. The revitalized menu features Faz' award-winning Oakwood Smoked California BBQ Baby Back Ribs, mesquite grilled meats and fresh fish. "MacArthur Park is one of those places people have heard of, but not enough have been there. The service is great, and the food is excellent. I highly recommend the pork chop, my favorite, but the entire menu is wonderful."

"We were there for Easter Brunch. There was good-sized crowd, but the restaurant was not overly-crowded, and all the diners were quietly conversing, and that actually added to the pleasant experience (i.e., a lot of people enjoying their meals). All the food was very well prepared, and we enjoyed every bite."

"I wanted to like MacArthur Park after all the great reviews it got. But being forced to pay $5 for valet parking in what was an easy-to-park-your-own-car lot was an immediate turn off. When we walked inside we were surprised to find the entire left side of the restaurant completely empty, and it remained that way throughout our meal (maybe that's because we made an 8pm reservation?). The food itself was pretty good and the service was good as well. But considering that it's in a slightly remote section of University Avenue, I don't think we'll be going back."

"Have been to MAcArthur Park a couple of times. Food is reliable, but not spectacular. Had a veggie pasta meal and it was good but lacked much flavor. The little Gem salad was very good, however. Will go back another time when looking for a basic meal and good glass of wine."

"Our request for a side table wasn't honored even though there were such tables available. We were placed in the middle of the dining area near the fire place, which was congested and there was a very bright light pointed straight down at the table. We asked to be moved, and were without hesitation, to a side table akin to the one we requested. Service was slow; too few waitpeople for the number of tables being served, and as a consequence we didn't have time for dessert (due to a post-dinner commitment)."
