A word from Lüke San Antonio
San Antonio is now home to acclaimed Chef John Besh’s restaurant, Lüke, on the city's famed Riverwalk, Besh's first restaurant outside of his home state of Louisiana. The casual chic bistro features a menu of authentic Old World cuisine, combining classic German and French cooking techniques served in a warm and inviting space of stylish vintage interior, situated in San Antonio's popular downtown district.

At the helm of the kitchen of Lüke is Executive Chef John Russ, born and raised in New Orleans. At Restaurant August, Chef Russ began to form the relationship with John Besh and he learned the importance of forming relationships with farmers and fisherman, which would later be reinforced by his time working on farms in Alabama, New Hampshire, New York and Maryland. Chef Russ returned to the Besh Restaurant Group as Chef de Cuisine on the invitation of Chef Besh.

To complement its cuisine, Lüke offers an extensive wine list and beer selection.

  • "We've been to Luke on Fridays and Saturdays perhaps 10 times total. This was our first Sunday experience. The wait staff was adequate but not fully attentive. My husband had the scallops which were delicious. I had the steamed mussels which were also delicious BUT the fries were poor. They were small and must have been the last of the batch. I would have been embarrassed to serve them."

  • "Wife and I ate dinner here because we have enjoyed John Besh restaurants in New Orleans. Upon recommendations I ordered the Luke Burger and it was wonderful, a must have if you stop here. My wife was not so happy with her shrimp and grits, thought the shrimp were old. The cocktails were awesome (Manhattans), we sat outside on a beautiful evening so the ambience was nice. The service was spotty at best, we didn't get water, bread or butter until we hit the attention of another waiter. This didn't damper our night, great evening with good food."

  • "My family and I went Luke for our 30th wedding anniversary. The is over priced to begin with and just not that good. Steak was tough fish was tasteless and I can make better gumbo. Will not be returning. One other thing the menu is uninspired and boring nothing "out there""

  • "Excellent! I was eating light, but enjoyed the beet salad and cup of seafood gumbo. Possibly the best gumbo I've had in a while. My boyfriend had the jumbo shrimp with the jalapeno cheese grits and andouille sausage. I had the jalapeno cheese grits last time I was there and I just need to say that they rocked my world. Could eat a dish of just that. Love their happy hour - 50 cent gulf oysters, y'all. And half off cocktails. French 75s are my new fave. Only let down: At my bday dinner, I had the best waitress ever and she hooked it up with a free dessert. This was my bf's bday dinner and had a different waiter this time. While he wasn't bad, he wasn't spectacular like the waitress from before so no free dessert this time. Bummer."

  • "My family, including small children, met at Luke's San Antonio, for my sixtieth birthday. The drinks, appetizers, and ambience were terrific. The staff was attentive. We were not a fan of the entrees. We'll go back, but not for the main course."

  • "The food was wonderful. The beet root and goat cheese salad was my favorite dish of my San Antonio vacation. The view was amazing and the temperature was perfect for sitting outside. We enjoyed our drinks as well. I would definitely return to Luke!!!"

  • "We stayed at the Embassy Suites next door and visited bar almost every night we where here. We finally decide to try dinner and it was great. The bartenders were very friendly & on top of their Business. We had a good time talking to Bartender Martine."

  • "I had been to luke before for lunch. This time I went for sinner with my husband. The drinks we ordered from the bar where awful! The food on the other hand was delicious. Our waitress was not great. We ordered the baked oysters for an appetizer. They were great. I ordered the luke burger which was great. It had caramelized onions on it. The fries were good but too salty for me. My husband got the pork dinner which had a lot of food and it was really tasty."

  • "We ate outside so it was quiet. I'm not sure how the noise level was inside. It was a little dark outside to read the menu, but romantic. The quail was amazing and so was the French Chardonnay. The prices seemed high but the food was delicious!"

  • "We have dined at Luke in New Orleans several times and have always enjoyed it. We went for brunch on Sunday and started with the Onion Tart. First thing I noticed was that this was on a very thin crust, almost like a fried flour tortilla, was definitely not like the one in New Orleans, but still the flavor was there. It was good. My wife got the fried green tomato sandwich and ended up not eating it because the bread was burned too much on the grill, the ended up comping it. I had the croquet Madam and the flavor was good, but it was a little on the dried side, was surprised it had mayo in it instead of Dijon, and also it was lacking a good covering of béchamel. Will probably not go back to this location."

  • "We had reservation at 8.30, asked for a table outside. Hostess told us than one will be ready within 20mn. At 9.30pm we went to check with the hostess and she told us that she forgot. We got finally sat outside and didn't get greeted for 15mn more. Finally a waitress came and took our order, she gave us the impression that we clearly were bothering her by coming so late. At this point i asked her for the tab paid and after only eating halp of our appetizers. She didn't seem surprised or bothered by that. No manager was visible or even came to our table at any point. Very disapointing to spend over $150 between bar and apps and having the feeling that you're disturbing the staff."

My husband loved the raw oysters and the gumbo was some of the best I have ever had. And, the valet parking was only $7 with a validation by Luke!"

  • "Overall it was a great experience! The food was great and they added a touch of Louisiana seafood house to the upscale ambiance by using kitchen dish towels as napkins. It worked for them. The only odd thing was we were told to reserve a seat near the kitchen as it was very cool. When we walked in the hostess said that she noticed the request but "the kitchen is upstairs and we could go look at it if we really wanted." Then she sat us, not with a view of the kitchen obviously. It was almost as if you had to be really special to sit upstairs. I'm sure that's not the case but there was really no explanation given."

  • "Upon arriving the hostess was rude and did not make eye contact. She said rudely that we would have to wait until tables were bussed. Well we waited for about 15 minutes with no other contact from her. We were standing frond of her. The table we got was set from the get go, we could see it. We did have a wonderful, friendly wait staff. Rita was personable and very attentive."

  • "I am a big fan of Luke's. We have been going for a few years. Usually we receive excellent service but this experience was not good. We were taken to our table, and we gave our drink order to the host. She asked if we were going to the 6:30p showing of Wicked and we told her yes. 25 minutes later, no drinks or waiter. Went to tell manager. Another 10 minutes later, the waiter shows up. 51 minutes later, our food arrives. We had 24 min to eat, pay and walk over to the show. This made for an unpleasant eating experience."

  • "I was a little disappointed based on all the reviews that raved about it being the best restaurant in SA. We ordered raw oysters for an appetizer, they were ok, but small compared to other seafood places we have been to. Scallops and swordfish were ok, pork shank my husband ordered was delicious! We requested outside seating in our reservation. However, once we were seated outside the table for 4 people was tiny! My husband had to pull up one of the other tables next to us so that we could have room. The napkins looked like used dishrags, I'm not kidding. Once the sun went down, we could not see our food. For the price you pay at this establishment, proper lighting should be put for the outside dining."

  • "A delightful evening spent outside on Lüke's patio for dinner. Didn't hurt to have beautiful evening weather. The food was interesting and well put together. The service was attentive but not oppressive. Lüke's wine list was extensive and there were some excellent choices and good recommendations from the server staff. The hostess was tremendously accommodating and a lot of fun to talk to. You could tell she loved her job. All in all a great experience and a keeper for future visits."

  • "We ate at Luke for Sunday brunch and the menu did not disappoint. Began the meal with an order of beignets and the entrees arrived. Jumbo Shrimp "En Cocotte" were very good - word of caution to the squeamish - shrimp is cooked with its head on. Creole Eggs Benedict and the Eggs Sardou were well prepared and well received. The Luke Burger did not disappoint either. Great way to begin the morning!"

  • "For the money, Lukes is just not consistent enough. My duck breast pieces were hard and grisly. The only potato offered was a boiled red skin that had no flavor. My son's scallop dish was nearly $30 but was a very small portion. It was only a couple scallops and looked fancy but was not exceptional. The sausage was fatty and caused indigestion during the play because it had too much pepper. Service was just ok. Slow to arrive and we weren't offered refills on our drinks. We like to go here before the show but thinking we'll need a new favorite. I do share the beet goat cheese salad with my husband and that was very good as usual!"

  • "The food was very good. We had two waiters, I think...The first man came over and said he would be back; the second female came over and took a drink order and left. The same man came back and took out food order. Our appetizers came prior to our drinks when the second female waiter came back. She was apologetic and kind. We never saw the gentlemen again!!! Loud table was apparently an employee and was never asked to quiet down."

  • "I have eaten at Luke in New Orleans, so I went in ready to like it, and I did. The menu was good and varied, and the service was great. I include the bar as well. They were friendly and answered all our questions. Luke was a great time, and, best of all, it did not break the bank! The entrees were reasonably priced, and the food stands up to any place I have been in San Antonio."
