A word from Lowcountry Bistro
SIMPLY LOWCOUNTRY: Lowcountry Bistro focuses only on the freshest ingredients since all of the food we cook is from scratch. On the menu you will find cult favorites like Chicken and Waffles to Lowcountry classics like Shrimp and Grits. We also believe that great food can be affordable. Many of our lunch dishes are under $10.

Our goal as a restaurant is to serve high quality, delicious food, at a fair price. We hope you agree after your meal at Lowcountry Bistro.

As an icon of the city for over 30 years, we have seen restaurants come and go. We pride ourselves on the fact that we were one of the first original Lowcountry cuisine restaurants to open their doors in the city. We know Lowcountry and after diligently researching Market Street restaurants, have come to the conclusion that what the area needs is a true, authentic Lowcountry restaurant.

Diner Reviews
  • "Our stay in Charleston was short, but this restaurant checked a lot of boxes for us: quality, farm-to-table low country inspired menu for Mom & Dad, better-than-average scratch-made kid's menu, smack dab in the market district, reasonable prices, and a neat, historically restored building. Signature chicken and waffles is a strong rendition of this classic regional dish."

  • "With so many good options in Charleston we wouldn't recommend this place since it's just average"

  • "The Lowcountry Bistro is ok. The food is ok, the service is ok, the ambiance is ok. I have nothing to complain about but is was not anything out of the ordinary."

  • "We went to the Lowcountry Bistro room my wife's birthday while visiting Charleston on holiday along with my 3 and 5 year olds. Found LB on open table with good reviews. Food was rally good, service was good and they didn't mind the energetic boys! The kids flounder was excellent, fresh, nicely breaded and really we'll cooked - most places we go to don't provide good quality children's food. We had a great time and it's in a great location."

  • "Lowcountry is South Carolina's charm. Their food is pretty darn good, too. Pretty good wine list but I've noticed Charleston doesn't worry too much about book-size lists. Unless you want a bourbon whiskey. Get the Bistro's 'stuffed' fried green tomatoes. Very good. Their grits, too. Skip the Frogmore stew. And get a table on that veranda!"

  • "Love the restaurants in Charleston so based on the other reviews, was expecting to love this. Was disappointed. Upstairs room was large but the tables were too small for my husband and me and our two adult sons. With all that space it felt ridiculous to be cramped at that tiny table. Door was open to the porch next to our table and with it being about 60 degrees it was a little cool. Food was mostly good but we ordered the fried green tomato appetizer to share and that was in a stack and not much food . Would have been nice to be told that. I would definitely not go back."

  • "I had a great experience at Lowcountry Bistro- we sat on the porch which was very cute, overlooking a courtyard and market street. We ordered and shared the lobster hushpuppies and stuffed flinders, both of which were delicious! Definitely a 10. Our server was also wonderful. I highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "Low Country Bistro is a great farm to table southern restaurant. The chef takes traditional southern dishes and applies a contemporary twist. The food is fresh and the service is great! The atmosphere is casual enough that we brought our kids. This is a perfect place for parents who want a great meal!"

  • "This is out second visit on 6 months. Absolutely wonderful food and service. The only regret is that we don't live closer to visit more often."

  • "My wife and I ejoyed our dinning experience here. Good sampling of southern cuisine. Prices were reasonable for the area. I would definitely recommend this restaurant."

  • "This restaurant has a good sselection of beer. My wife's shrimp and grits were very good but my entree was so so."

  • "Great find for lunch. Waitstaff was friendly and accomodating. Food was delicious!"

  • "The most touristy feeling place I have been to in Charleston. Nothing particularly wrong about the experience, but nothing particularly right either. In a town with such great food options, this place gave the impression of just going through the motions."

  • "We were looking for a restaurant with a Lowcountry menu selection and found it at LB. Don t miss the chicken and waffles!"

  • "Great location beside the market, fish and scallops were average and so was the service. Expected better from previous reviews."

  • "Being on a gluten-free diet, Lowcountry Bistro has very nice gluten-free options besides salad. The clam appetizer and southern Chioppino were awesome. My son ate an appetizer - lobster hush puppies- plus an entire half pound burger because he said both were so good. It was a LOT of food! My husband loved the jambalaya. We will definitely dine again on a future trip."

  • "Given the competition in Charleston and the price I was looking for more of an event. All eating options in town were booked and it is March. Perhaps these guys are too successful"

  • "Went for restaurant week and it was great! I had the pork chop and the my hubby had the chicken and waffles. SO GOOD!"

  • "Every single review website recommended Lowcountry Bistro. My husband loves everything but I don't eat pork and I"m allergic to shirmp so finding something on the menu was almost impossible because everything that didn't have bacon had shrimp. I knew I was an anomaly to our waiter butI did find a yummy soup to try. However we sat there for 30 minutes with no food for either of us. The waiter was so kind and kept apologizing. He finally brought out biscuits but that was 40 -45 minutes later. We had an appointment so we really had to go...still hungry. They comped us for the drinks and we tipped the waiter. The biscuits were decent but we could not give more than a fair rating to food we did not have."

  • "Enjoyed a fabulous lunch and then returned for dessert and drinks later in the day. The sweet tea mojito was one of the most unique and delicious drinks I have ever tasted!"

  • "We tried LB because we're locals, it was a special occasion, and we wanted lowcountry food in a quaint spot. I asked for a quiet spot & was told upstairs was better. Wrong! Very noisy. Garret, our bored-looking slack server took our order without offering the specials. He described the okra app I wanted In detail & promptly forgot to order it!. Ugh! We waited, he never checked on us , nor lit our candle. Our dinners arrived without the app & the manager told us Garret forgot to send it in. He offered free dessert. Sooo... Our meals were cold, my boyfriend sent his Frogmore stew back & it was reheated. My risotto was NOT risotto ..not creamy nor delicious...basically just rice. The only saving grace, the fabulous collards. Never going back."

  • "My sister and I enjoyed our great brunch. Food was out in a reasonable amount of time. However we were surprised the level of service giving to us by our server, Jonathan. While handing us out water he managed to spill some all over the table and didn't even attempt to clean it up. We asked for him to clean it up however, it seemed like he didn't want to even though it was his mess. We did not get a refill on any of drinks water and sweet tea the whole time (1 hour) we were there. Best things about the restaurant are the late brunch (10 - 4) and the wonderful view of Market St. you have when sitting on the balcony."

  • "The food was wonderful! My wife had the pecan prelene waffle and I had the chicken and waffles. They were both very flavorful and filling. Decent pricing for downtown and plenty of seating for brunch on Sunday. I would much rather go here than wait in line at Toast. Plus it's right next to the market. No I don't work here, I just liked it that much!"

  • "We enjoyed our meal at Lowcountry Bistro very much. I would definitely recommend the lobster hushpuppies and the seared scallops."

  • "We did the 4 course $65 meal. I loved all 4 courses, but my last beef course was way too salty. I had the clams, the tilefish, the beef and the orange ginger dessert. All were great except the beef."

  • "Our second visit to this restaurant. The food was very slow to come out but was very good when we got it."

  • "Well prepared regional cuisine in a bistro like setting. Pleasant spot for visitors"

  • "The food here was decidedly average, which, given the high prices, was disappointing. The lobster hush puppies were too dense. I should have listened to the waiter who was subtly warning us away from them. The she-crab soup was just average. The potatoes in the oyster stew were very undercooked. The crab cakes were light and didn't have too many fillers - always a danger with crab cakes. But the greens on the side were too sweet and the rice flavorless. Of the many restaurants we ate in Charleston on our trip, this one was by far the weakest. Service was friendly, albeit a bit slow. The cocktails were good - the sweet tea mojito was delicious. Stop by for a drink and then move on."

  • "We loved this restaurant - it is now our favorite restaurant in Charleston!!!!! Our server, Eric, was wonderful. It was nice to go to a restaurant where there were so many choices, I had a hard time deciding. Can't wait to go back and try some of the other dishes."

  • "On the strength of it being the sister to 82 Queen, we thought to try LB for a little something different. We were particularly attracted to its small plate options and interesting alternative dishes. The libations were nice, but a little pricey, considering they were more fruit juice than alcohol. The fried green tomatoes were very good, and we especially enjoyed the pimento cheese grits with it. We optedf for the portabello mushroom small dish and the sdtuffed flounder. Both were very good, but not awe inspiring. The best thing we ordered, howeverm was the cornbread. Outstanding -- it served as our dessert, as well. Ambiance was a little too rustic, considering the price tag. But service was great and overall, it was nice experience."

  • "The bar area was small but very charming with a neat area looking outdoors. The food was excellent!! Can not say enough about how good ALL the food was."

  • "It was a pleasant experience. The food was better than expected but priced slightly higher than expected as well. The dinnig area was quaint and simple. The waitress was knowlegeable about the menu and specials and was helpful in making suggestions. The restrooms were inadaquate and the temperature of the dinning area seemed way too cold."

  • "We absolutely loved this restaurant. The food and service were outstanding! Next time we are in Charleston, we definitively head back here. The sweet potato fingerlings were amazing! The cocktails were awesome too. My husband loved the Frogemore Stew. I had a delicious spinach salad with candies pecans. The shredded pork was chicken and waffles were also outstanding! We ate at many excellent restaurants while in Charleston, but this was definitely one of our favorites!"

  • "We had a fabulous valentine dinner. We got the fabulous fried green tomato app. With the specials of the night mosy tender filet and great rack of lamb. Too full for dessert."

  • "It is a very nice restaurant . One thing that attracted us was the fabulous Happy hour menu on Urban Spoon. There was no Happy Hour menu . They did honor wine price mentioned. It is in the heart of Market street with a great outdoor view. Food was good!"

  • "The 1st time we went was restaurant week and it was delicious. The service was awesome the menu phenomenal and the ambiance was also great. The 2nd time we went for Valentine's, the shrimp and grits was very heavy on the tomatoes causing it to be very acidic, not for me and it was only 3 shrimp on the appetizer... that's $3 a shrimp, not to mention it's odd to split an appetizer for 2 when there are only 3 shrimp. It was super cold downstairs as we were seated right in front of the door that had to be closed every time it was opened or it would just hang open. My lamb rack left something to be desired but the brussel sprouts were delish and my potatoes au gratin were yummy. My husband had the filet mignon special and it was great!"

  • "Generic feeling interior; waitress was not very friendly; food was not as good as many other places we've eaten in Charleston. Seafood dish had grit, overcooked fish, a bad muscle, and a couple of pieces of shell. Collards were overly sweet. She crab soup was doused in sherry. And short ribs were tough. We were seated quickly, served very quickly."

  • "Lowcountry Bistro is a scaled down version of 82 Queen. The food is good and the service is as good as the parent but it has the feel of a diner not the feel of its parent. It is a good spot for a quick meal and I would go there again. Just know its best for a quick in and out."
