Diner Reviews
  • "Our server was very pleasant, we explained that we needed to be out in time for a show, and he guessed which show, and made sure we got out in time. Food was better than average, pretty decent beer selection. Next time we are going to a show in the neighborhood we'll come back."

  • "The reservation was at 1:30 so the traffic was light. Very pleasant waitstaff and atmosphere. Food good."

  • "Entire experience was first class! One of the best places in the Loop for an above-average experience. Can't wait until it's warm enough for the outdoor dining experience - definitely one of the best you will find in the Loop for lunch."

  • "the soup is good and the Seafood salad was fresh and very good.."

  • "We had an excelllent meal for a very good price. Our service was excellent. i will say that we tend to arrive 30 min earlier than the standard theater crowd, so we can order our main course, without being at the center of the rush. I really enjoy this restaurant for the variety of choices on the menu - entrees, entree salads and sandwiches that are nice dinner choices."

  • "" I love the relaxing feel- the servers and staff were helpful and friendly. I would recommend this place to friends.. I went on my birthday and it was quiet and few people were there, but nice. I had Tilapia and my friend had steak and they both were juicy and delicious. I told the server it was my birthday and he gave me a complimentary Raspberry chocolate cheesecake which was very tasty.""

  • "My skirt steak was good. The marinade was flavorful. However, dessert wasn't so great. I ordered a hot fudge sundae, and when it came the ice cream was already about halfway melted. My server thought that maybe it was her fault for putting the hot fudge right on top of the ice cream, so she very kindly offered to make me another one with the hot fudge on the side. When she brought the new one, the ice cream was still already in that soft state -- Even without any hot fudge. I suspect that their freezer isn't cold enough to keep regular ice cream at its proper consistency. Dairy Queen's ice cream is meant to be soft. Homer's -- Not so much."

  • "Lloyd's is our favoriterestaurant for a timely served pre-opera dinner. With discounted parking in the same building below, and a short walk across the street to the Lyric Opera, quick, usually very attentive service gets us in and out without a rushed feeling."

  • "Lloyd's is perfect for the opera buff! It is across the street from the Lyric and the wait staff and kitchen are very atuned to the opera schedule. We'll return often."

  • "As always found the fast service and good food an excellent choice for before opera dining. I enjoyed the signature corn chowder while we both enjoyed Lloyd's burgers with fries and Cole slaw. Service was quick, attentive and made it easy for us to dine and get to the before opera lecture on time."

  • "The menu offered many selections to suit anyone's taste. Drinks and food came in a timely fashion. My husband had the fish and chips which was outstanding. The breading on the fish was light which showed that new oil was used and not something around all day. I had the grilled Talapia with mashed potaotes and vegetables. Both meals arrived at the proper temperature. We split the pecan tart for dessert.. Since we were dining before the Opera and wanted to be able to attend the pre-opera lecture, we appreciated that we were done dining and out of Lloyd's with time to spare. I would highly recommend Lloyds to anyone for anytime not just before the Opera."

  • "Across the street from the Civic Opera House, Lloyd's is a convenient spot for dinner before the opera. Food is adequate to good, service is generally very good, and convenience to the Opera House is great."

  • "We look forward to dining at Lloyd's prior to opera performances. The service is fast and wait staff very friendly and accommodating. The food is reasonably priced and is well prepared and they manage to get us to the opera in time! Can't wait to return!"

  • "Lloyd's is right across the street from Chicago's Civic Opera House. That makes it very convenient and a reasonable value for pre-performance dining."

  • "Convenient for the opera goer. Food is usually good. Servers get you out on time."

  • "Our waitress asked at the beginning if we were going to the opera after dinner and we confirmed yes. (the opera starts at 7:30.) At 6:30 I asked for our bill. She did not return with the bill until after 7! Then it took over 5 minutes for her to return with our charge cards. It was almost 7:15 before we were able to leave. We were almost the last table out of there. Our table was all women. While I hate to think that was the reason for the poor service, I can think of no other explanation."

  • "Had a great time with my family preshow. They brought my mother's dessert out with a candle for her birthday. Waiter was great! Ambience was energetic! No complaints! Nice time."

  • "It was in a perfect spot! A 5 minute walk from the Metro station & about 5/10 minute walk to the Cadillac Palace. However- it was Friday & the bar area was packed & loud!!!! Even though we made reservations - we still had to wait 5/10 minutes to be seated. Then the hostess was going to seat us at a high pub table in the bar area!! I refused, so we waited another 5 minutes to sit in a booth next to the bar area. Due to our crappy location in the restaurant - it was hard to hear anything my daughter had to say- we had to scream! If we were seated away from the bar area- it would have been fine. By 7:00 most of the bar scene cleared out- so it was better- but we had to go. The decor & food was great- but hard to enjoy due to our location!"

  • "Lloyd's is always spot -on for pre-opera dining. The menu has a nice variety, the waiters are very helpful and efficient, the food comes out quickly and quite hot and the discounted parking below is a perk. After the meal, walk across the street and sit to listen to world class opera. Would recommend to any and all."

  • "Loved the adult atmosphere of Lloyd's. Nice dining music and not too loud making conversation easy. Wait staff was very attentive. Grilled salmon was excellent as were drinks and dessert. Nice proximity to train and theatre. Will go back to try other menu options. Reasonable prices for quality of food."

  • "I've been dining at Lloyd's for a few years now, originally it was because of the close probity of the Lyric Opera but now it's more for the food and the friendly and helpful staff."

  • "My husband, friends and I went to Lloyd's before going to the Opera. They had great food for a very reasonable price, especially for downtown. The four of us ate for a total cost of about $90. I will definitely go there again. The staff was very nice and understood that we were in a bit of a rush. We had our food very quickly after ordering."

  • "Lloyds is very convenient for pre-opera dining. The tilapia sandwich was excellent. My friend ordered the chowder and had to send it back because it was not much more than broth. Very disapointed in that. Prices are reasonable."

  • "This is a very convenient place to eat if you have evening opera tickets at the Lyric. The food is ok (nothing special) and especially in cold winter weather it's really nice that the walk to the Lyric involves just walking across the street. The service is fairly efficient so that you needn't worry about being late to the performance."

  • "We tried Lloyds for the first time on a chilly Saturday night. The food and service were great and it was just steps from the Lyric Opera building. The prices were amazingly reasonable. Lloyd's really helps a neighborhood that is frankly a bit lean on dinner choices."
