We went there for brunch. Our
service was fantastic. However, the food was mediocre and the portions small. My friend had the chicken and waffles, which was too expensive for the portion. This is something I could have made. I had the truffle potato and eggs. It was decent. Again the portion was small. I think they should have one more eggs on it. My other friend had the duck hash. This was pretty good, but again the portion was small. I left hungry. I did however, really enjoy the grapefruit mimosa."

Way overpriced for what it
is...nothing special. The fried chicken was good but came with a about two tablespoons of slaw and nothing else. Arugula salad was unremarkable."

I Came here on Sunday for brunch
with some friends, the chicken and waffles were amazing and so was the service! Will be back soon!"

Don't miss out on this new(er)
place. Great food, service and atmosphere."

I read about this place a few
times recently and finally decided to check it out. We were promptly greeted and sat. The waitress was sweet and quick to answer any questions. Decor is cute and trendy, lots of exposed light bulbs and details like the antique style vent covers were nice. Food was amazing. We had the red potato dish with blue cheese, tons of flavor and the guanciale - pork salami - added a nice crunch! Lots of poached eggs on the brunch menu. Also tried the steak with red wine sauce - more like a gravy. Had a side of bacon and I must say, it absolutely melted in my mouth. Overall both dishes were great, pricing on mimosas was fair and the overall visit was lovely. Can't wait to come back for happy hour or dinner soon!"

The restaurant gets better and
better. The service was friendly and knowledgeable ."

I was very excited to dine at
Little Barrel & Brown but my experience was ruined when we waited more than 35 minutes for our food. Food was okay."

Delicious cheeseburger! Lovely
staff. Overall solid not pretentious."
Dined on 5/31/2014
This is a great restaurant on S.
Congress!! Special fan of the seafood dishes-- others as well including the hamburger. Service is super--ask for waiter Sean! "
Dined on 5/30/2014
This restaurant clearly has love
written all over it. The owners probably didn't want to improve the decor until they were confident that they could get a return on their investment. The chef is good and probably better than I know, but have been there only once. Go for the food and the drinks and the value. Give them encouragement and some cash-flow so they can improve the ambience. Meanwhile, a good hangout for food and drink that will please you."
Dined on 5/25/2014
Food was hit or miss--excellent
scallop, pork shoulder, fish, vegetarian entree, but cold squash soup and tomato/strawberry/ricotta salad not quite working. Avoid the wine "pairing," which was a complete mismatched flop. Service was poorly timed and seemed a bit confused, even on an only moderately busy night. Nice space, hopeful some of the kinks will be worked out next time. "
Dined on 5/18/2014
Very happy with the food, service,
and experience! Fried green tomatos were fantastic! Presentation of all food was spot on."

Great food! Great Service! Cool
decor and atmosphere! Great for groups of 6-8 people."

Food was ehhh. Waited forever for
service. Tables are really close so you hear hear the neighbors convo"

We had a very warm welcome when we
arrived and our table was ready. We specifically came for ARW. Our server was very friendly; although new so unable to provide recommendations. We started with the Mussels app off the main menu and they were delicious! The Quail and Scallop starter for ARW were both great. The tomato and strawberry course was one of my least favorites. Although nice and light, it was mostly tomatoes and not all were ripe in my opinion. The Snapper was cooked well and tasted great. They were out of Pork, disappointing. The Hangar steak was undercooked and the dish was underwhelming. I sent back a barely touched plate but no concern from staff. Overall we had a good experience; minor improvements needed. Ambiance great. "

Food simply not good. Service
so-so. Good looking space though."

Food was creative and very, very
good. Everyone enjoyed. Price Fix menu a bargain. Fun decor. We were the first table. As soon as one more table came in, our party could not hear each other from one end of the 7-top table to the other. The one complaint I have for this and so many restaurants in Austin is that they do nothing to mitigate the crowd noise. With all the hard surfaces, a restaurant quickly becomes a trying experience. I truly do not enjoy going out to dinner with anyone except my spouse or 1 additional diner because I can never hear the rest of the party. Such was the case at LB&B. But I do recommend the menu. If you have great hearing, or a small party, you will enjoy."

An excellent dining experience--
the quality of the food was superb. My girlfriend and I often find that higher-end restaurants tend to over-salt their food, but we found that everything at LB&B was seasoned to perfection. The dishes were excellent-- a new take on old classics but never so unfamiliar as to be alienating. We had a great time!"

new favorite restaurant, cannot
wait to go back! everything was excellent - meal was not rushed. ambiance was perfect and everything we ate was amazing. "

I had the tofu scramble and it was
delicious! I would definitely visit again!"

The restaurant faced some
electrical issues while we were there, but they persevered. The entree's were excellent. We had the Monkfish Special and the Red Snapper and enjoyed them very much. The "Small Bites" section of the menu really contains appetizer portions for and individual. The "Appetizer" section contains table sized servings. If I were the restaurant I might rebrand both. The desserts were awesome. Our waiter, Jacob, was excellent. Very pleasing personality and very helpful"

This was my second time going to
LB&B and my experience was just as good the second time as it was the first. The food was excellent and the service was top notch. The interior is lends itself as a good place to eat dinner with a date or event a small group of friends. The food and drink prices are reasonable. I've referred many people to the restaurant and will continue to do so."

All 4 of the folks in my party
commented how salty there food was. Even the salad. Otherwise nice atmosphere and location. Great service too."
Dined on 4/5/2014
The menu has lots of creative
twists to standards. Pickles includes turnips with fennugreek and is very good. I recommend the country pate with a bacon jam. Like I said, creative twists. The fried chicken is brined and then marinated in buttermilk with a nice crispy outside that is not heavy."

Second visit - still very good!
Service fast & efficient, really surprised by the larger sized apps making it easier to share them w a group. Cheese Fries, Beer battered Shrimp - more like bar food, but tasty! Would be good to see a few appetizer options that were not so heavy. Squash soup - 5 stars all the way! Order it! Surprised by a couple reviews about the Scallop dish: We thought it was so outstanding and delicious - we commended the chef personally! The lamb chops are also just perfectly prepared ...the kumquats a very nice compliment to them. Dessert is where Barrel is seriously lacking any menu ingenuity. Having tried them all - not one stands out as very good. Interior is stark, could use a warm up to make you feel more at home."

Friends from out of town came in
for a visit, and I wanted to show them a cool Austin experience. The restaurant itself is very cute and has a great atmosphere. Our appetizers were great, especially the mussels and the deviled eggs. Our entrees were good, but not spectacular. I would go eat there again, but our waiter was not very attentive at all. He seemed preoccupied with his other smaller tables, even though we were ordering plenty and had a large tab. A few times I decided to give up on ordering extras, just because he never came around. Although he wasn't the greatest, we still tipped over 20% on our bill because we are also service industry folks. Oh well. You win some, you lose some."

Had a little difficulty finding
restaurant though I've lived in Bouldin for years; signage had yet to be added. I was a little surprised to find so many tables available on a Friday night. That said, service was great. I had the pork belly special served over barley with spinach and Brussel sprouts. Very good though could have been warmer. Otherwise, all was well."

Good cocktail menu. Appetizers
included beef jerky (amazing!), Gravlax deviled eggs (delicious), and fried oysters (decent). The arugula salad was beautiful & the aged brie was a really unique addition. Two had the hangar steak, and both agreed it was cooked well & tasted good, but the portion was a tad small. I had the scallops and was blown away when the orzo had chunks of bacon. Sooo delicious! The fourth in our group had the fried chicken. Thankfully it was a huge portion because she was able to share with all of us! The batter was nice and thick, not greasy at all. The highlight was definitely dessert - chocolate pudding pie was the best I've ever had. We were all scrapping the plate."

Understanding that this is a new
restaurant in an established location, I cut them some slack. We wanted to try this place after walking by on South Congress, saw that they were doing a booming business, looked nice and had several rave reviews on Yelp. The Kale Salad and Steamed Mussels were both very good. We docked them a star in our rating because we ordered the special, 'Roasted Pork Belly' that had been slow roasted for some 36 Hours. Arguably, we should have been forewarned by the characterization by our waiter of it as a 'wonderful bacon'. While it was presented beautifully, it was 90% fat---much to our surprise. Overall, an interesting, eclectic new restaurant---with potential. But, beware the exotic specials."

Really enjoyed the food, wine and
decor. However, when I say too loud, I really mean it. We were screaming at each other. One of my party finally pulled out a decibel meter on the iphone and tracked the noise. It was 95 Db consistently and peaked at almost 110! For reference, google informs me that a jackhammer is 95 Db at 50 feet and permanent hearing loss kicks in at about 95. The brick walls were bare, the floor is cement, and the ceiling did not have acoustic tiles. The noise problem is probably easily fixable. When it is taken care of, I will gladly return."

We enjoyed our dining experience.
The ice cream served with the apple pie dessert was wonderful. We found the noise level to be too high."

We went on Valentine's Day and the
place was packed. The hostess seemed a little flustered but seated us after we arrived a few minutes after our reservations. Wine was good, food was good, lively atmosphere made it a bit hard to carry on a conversation but we managed. We had a great time but be careful, the floors are very slick so wear shoes with some traction."

We went on Valentine's night. It
was great service, great food and a great vibe. I was worried it was gonna be pretentious, especially that night, but it far exceeded expectations. You will love this new spot."

My girlfriend and I attended
Little Barrel and Brown for Valentine's day. The atmosphere was great, service and owner were great, and the food was very good. We had fried oysters as an appetizer and they were the best we had ever had. You have to try them. The decor is warm and inviting and sets the mood nicely. It was on the verge of loud on the inside, but it was also Valentines day and it was completely packed, the bar was full, and people were waiting near the entrance. The 2 top seating is pretty close together, like the Lake Austin Magnolia or the Drag Madam Ma'am's but it ended up being nice because we met a couple from Ohio that was delightful. We will definitely go again."
Dined on 2/14/2014
The only thing we would change was
the noise from the food and drink prep area overflowed a bit into the dining room. Very minor issue, we loved our experience, will definitely be back."
Dined on 2/14/2014
Everything on this modest menu was
very good. I lived the creativity of my dish-I had red snapper with forbidden rice and beets and greens. All with a delicious sauce. The only fault is the sound level - brick walls, concrete floor just don't help. Also, the lighting needs improvement. It may be trying for romantic but dreary is what it achieves."
Dined on 2/13/2014
We used to like Woodland that was
in this space, but Little Barrel & Brown made us forget all about it. Our waiter Aaron was great, the bartender made an excellent cocktail and the food was FANTASTIC! The new decor is beautiful and the music choices fit well and were the right volume. We took the kids and they liked it as well, but I think next time we will go alone and enjoy the ambience a little bit more. HIGHLY recommended."
Dined on 2/12/2014
Food was excellent, but acoustics
were horrible- go on an uncrowded night."
Dined on 2/1/2014
Enjoyed the experience. Food was
very good and fit for any palate. A great combination of very traditional techniques, like char grilling the vegetables, and standard reductions, to daring explorations in spice and flavor combinations. Our server happened to be a 3rd generation Austin native, lacking sophistication, but oozing genuine charm. Great date night with my fiancé."

Caramel corn as a snacky starter
was good, we would have preferred more heat. The flatbread pizza with fresh spinach and morrell mushrooms was delicious. The squash and fennel soup with shishito peppers was also very flavorful and delicious. I enjoyed the arugula salad with brie: generous portion wiith yummy dressing. The wine list was extensive, We had the Two Mountain Merlot, which was a nice accompaniment to our meal. Nice ambience in the restaurant. The bar area looked busy and the cocktail list looked interesting but we decided to stick to wine for our dinner, no regrets. Dessert: buttermilk panna cotta with freshly made oatmeal chocolate chunk cookies was a delicious end to our meal, not heavy or rich but just right."
