A word from Lineage
A farm to table American restaurant with a focus on seafood. Our menus change daily to reflect the best of what the markets have to offer and allows us to feature the work of many local artisans, growers and fishermen. A three course seafood tasting menu is always available. Jeremy and Lisa Sewall created Lineage Restaurant"s concept. We are a married couple with extensive culinary experience and deep New England roots. Located in the heart of Coolidge Corner, Brookline, Massachusetts, the name "Lineage" is based on Jeremy's own. In 1705, when this "Muddy River" hamlet of Boston became incorporated, Samuel Sewall, son of Judge Sewall of Salem Witch Trials fame, lent the community his services as the first Town Clerk and, it is thought, the name of his family's "Brooklin" lands, which lay between the Charles and Muddy Rivers.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Predictably excellent...food, service, table requested, etc. Creative menu and excellent wine list!"
    Dined on 7/8/2014
  • "Half off all the bottles on their list for the month of July: a really nice way to sample different wines. Arugula salad with fried chickpeas and hummus was unusual and tasty. Salmon tartar was flavorful. Special fried chicken with coleslaw and cornbread was extra crispy and had a wonderful flavor."

  • "can't believe it took us this long to try Lineage after living here for a few years - its a very seafood heavy menu but everything was excellent (including my husbands steak). Drinks and oysters are fantastic - wine is really reasonably priced. We'll definitely go back for a weeknight dinner at the bar to take advantage of their oyster special!"

  • "Good friendly patient service, great food, welcoming atmosphere, a very dependable good experience once again..."

  • "We chose to eat at Lineage for July 4th and we were very glad we did! The service was super, as was the food and drink. My husband's seared tuna was perfectly done, and the gnocchi was prepared differently to satisfy my taste and my daughter's. Great beverage choices, including coke in the bottle, and super scrumptious desserts. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience!"

  • "Very fine food with the farm to table emphasis on good ingredients. My gnocchi was very tasty but a little sparse on the serving. Service (Tom) was excellent in every way."

  • "We used to live in Boston for 20 years and always stay in Coolidge Corner when we visit. Had a lovely dinner at Lineage. My husband had the stuffed clams and gnocchi with lobster and pesto and I had the lobster tacos and the duck leg confit with smoked faro. Delicious! Desserts were average. Service was terrific! We would definitely dine here again."

  • "I had two very nice meals at Lineage. As you can tell I love the lobster tacos and everything else that we tried. Go in this July as all wine is 50% off!"

  • "Nicely appointed and clean restaurant with an interesting predominantly seafood menu. Outstanding appetizer (jack knife clams) but main course (gnocchi) not memorable and it took 45 minutes to arrive. As a single diner I have generally noted poorer service than multiple diners at a table."

  • "Lobster tacos were outstanding. Salmon cooked perfectly. Our waiter was great, attentive ... Just perfect"

  • "We all very much enjoyed our dinner. The food was very good and the service and ambience exellent."

  • "Food was mediocre. My fish lacked spicing and the vegetables consisted of 12 peas and 5 minuscule slices of Carrots. Two other diners at my table had entrees with sauces and both had to ask for additional sauce. The vodka and the wine were lovely. I would go back to sit at the bar, but not for the food."
    Dined on 6/24/2014
  • "My two favorite types of food are seafood and vegetables. They did an excellent job with both. I adored the creamy parsnip soup. Both my husband and I had a small bowl. I had lobster. Yes, no shell to mess with as it was deconstructed. My husband had a wonderfullly flavored cod. The desserts were good as well. I had the semifreddo and my husband had strawberry shortcake. Though he did mention the cake part was a little bland, but the ice cream was perfect. We would definitely go back and recommend you check it out."

  • "Wed arrive around 6:40 and sat at the bar to take advantage of the $1 from 5-7 pm. The bread rolls were soft and delicious, and the oysters were wonderful. We paid our bill at the bar and were seated at our table. For dinner my boyfriend ordered the soft shell crab and I ordered the NY strip steak. His dish had an interesting taste and could be labeled as different. He enjoyed it, but I’m not sure if he would order it again. My steak was cooked to my liking and the potatoes and onions that came with it were pretty good. Overall both plates were good but we probably would not order the same dishes again if we come back to visit. The dining room is nicely set up and decorated."

  • "We had a small dinner for my mom's 60th birthday. I had made a reservation and we got right in. Everyone enjoyed their meal. We all had fish with various sides and they were all delicious. Service was good too! Would highly recommend."

  • "We come here fairly often -- food is great, and room is comfortable and homey. Usually just drink wine, but we ordered a cocktail this time (Hemingway) and thought it was great. We had the pasta special and a strip steak -- both were cooked perfectly with beautiful spring vegetables. This is still our go-to on a weeknight when work was hard and we need to be spoiled without totally breaking the bank. Thoughtful, delicious, high quality food."

  • "That was my fist dinner in Lineage. It's hard to explain how good was service in there. Friendly manager and very nice waitress. Foie Gras as appetizer with the special from chief has been delightful. NY Strip Steak for me and Salmon for my friend were delicious. Definitely, will keep coming back Thank you Lineage crew! "

  • "Excellent and unusual food. Outstanding, well informed waiter answered our questions in detail. When I went to order tea I found he was also a tea expert, which I really enjoyed. "

  • "Get over to Lineage! This Coolidge Corner delight has symmetry. Premier chefs sending out only perfection from a menu of selections you are sure to find something you will want and love. Attentive servers, great wine list, casual or special event, Lineage is perfect for a girls night out or date night and then walkabout with all the Corner activity. "

  • "This is our favorite restaurant. The menu is slightly limited but always offers two fish entrees, and preparing fish with simple, perfectly executed recipes is what Lineage does best. Seasonally changing menu always shows inventiveness. A 3-course chef's tasting is always offered, with optional wine pairings. Space has 3 dining environments: vibrant café/bar, curvy bar warmed by a pizza kiln on the back wall, and a more sedate dining room. Wine list is very eclectic and does not outrageously overprice its selections. Have the seared scallops here, and you will have a new standard to judge all others. Service is always knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Often flooded with regulars, so make a reservation. Consistently great."

  • "Every time we go to Lineage, we say it's the best meal we ever had. Never, never disappoints. Lobster gnocchi was to die for. Never skip the butterscotch pudding. "

  • "Excellent food and very attentive service. The atmosphere is lovely and relaxing. Lineage is everything a restaurant should be: delicious and always a terrific dining experience. "

  • "The choice of Lineage to celebrate a graduation from BU could not have been more perfect. But was what even more perfect was the service. Brandon our server was so delightful we'd go back there just to see him. Lineage is top notch without being pretentious. Absolutely try it! "

  • "Living in Coolidge Corner, we have come to Lineage for most special occasions over the last 6 years. It is still our favorite spot and a true gem. The service is absolutely top notch - being helpful and attentive without being overbearing. The food is always incredible and our meals on Friday night did not disappoint. Every appetizer and entree was fantastic (we had the parsnip soup and salmon tartare to start followed by the steak and lobster gnochhi). It is my favorite place to recommend to friends and visitors since it's a comfortable ambiance with amazing food and service. In 6 years we have never been disappointed. We'll be back again soon! "

  • "If you're into fish, this place is fantastic. I got the lobster gnocchi, and the gnocchi was smooth and velvety, very tasty. "
    Dined on 5/16/2014
  • "The only thing I ever find to complain about at Lineage is the extreme heat from the open oven. Not so bad on a cold night, but as the days get warmer it becomes more of an issue. I still like sitting at the bar though! "

  • "Great food and a rare opportunity to actually converse with your dinner companion(s). Service was surprisingly fast. Everything we ordered (scallops, bluefish, lobster tacos, salad, strawberry ice cream, and ricotta tart) was delicious and well presented. Expansion of menu choices would be great."

  • "We loved our brunch and had a good service. Everything was very tasty and fresh orange was very sweet and great to drink with my egg's Benedict. Fried clams were so good that we had 3 orders. We'll go back."
    Dined on 5/4/2014
  • "We might have rated ambiance higher but we're seated right by the kitchen door. Lots of server traffic! It was unfortunate. My steak plate was outstanding!! Overall very good!"
    Dined on 5/2/2014
  • "Lineage is a lovely neighborhood restaurant, convenient to the Coolidge, with very good food, nice ambience, and pleasant service. Our orders were taken quickly, but the food was not served for quite awhile although we had a 5:15pm reservation and the restaurant hadn't filled yet. We would definitely go there again, perhaps when we are not trying to make a movie at the Coolidge, which added pressure to our schedule. Our server made a point of trying to get us out on time, but it seemed that the kitchen wasn't geared up adequately."
    Dined on 5/1/2014
  • "Seafood tasting menu was especially unusual and delicious. A great find near Coolidge Corner theater. Service was great, but this is a place to savor, not rush through. Salads, appetizers and wine list all top notch."

  • "with very good service, nice wines by the glass, and noise level that allows relaxed conversation. "

  • "I asked for a quiet table because of business meeting and upon arrival I was greeted with a smile an ready table.. The waiter and food were superb. Areal local find. Jason Chudnofsky"

  • "The arugula salad wa tasteless with an odd green and equally tasteless dressing, and the salmon tartare was equally unappealing--no spice, no interesting flavors, and the salmon itself was only passable. Indeed, one member of our group sent it back because she found it so bland and tasteless. Lineage used to be a very good restaurant, but alas it has deteriorated. "

  • "Fun locale with an appealing menu which is supported by a chef who knows how to prepare and present food. Staff and service are good and it's perfectly located steps away from Coolidge Corner. "
