A word from Limones Restaurant
Around the corner from the Fine Arts Theater in downtown Asheville, Limones Restaurant provides an inspirational mix of Mexican and Californian cuisine along with inventive bar selections served by a warm, professional staff. Long before working and training under some of San Francisco’s most talented chefs, Hugo Ramirez was raised on the intense and varied flavors native to his hometown of Mexico City. In fact, he still calls on his mother for the secrets of traditional Mexican dishes, which he reinvents in innovative and surprising ways. At Limones, Hugo’s love of Mexican food is combined with his training in french-influenced California cuisine.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Great service. Yummy food. The Cerviche verde was to die for. The Sea bass was excellent. Good wine list. In a town full of restuarants Limones was special."

  • "Service great. The truffles served gratis with the bill were superb."

  • "What a surprise! In Asheville for 4 nights.....Limones was by far the best restaurant we ate at for dinner. Service was terrific, but the food was absolutely delicious, creative, delightful! A must to go to!"

  • "This was our first time at Limones and we were a reservation of six. The food was excellent, the service was exceptional, our table was waiting for us and the staff was very friendly. The food, drinks and wine list had great choices. The portions were a good size for the main meals. Each person indicated that evening and the next day what great food they served. We all said we would be back."

  • "We tried the weekend brunch for the first time and all four of us are itching to go back. Fresh ingredients, superb choices, layers and layers of flavor, friendly and accomplished wait staff. An all around delightful experience at very modest prices on entrees. Do not go if you are in a hurry - with every entree and appetizer cooked to order, you will be there for a while, especially if you do what we did and ordered rabbit sausage appetizer and chocolate torte (both to share around and both amazingly delicious). Order a Margarita (their specialty) or a beer, relax and enjoy."

  • "Excellent cocktails. Loved the tres leche cake. Fish entrees were good."

  • "Limones is consistently delicious, including great service and nice ambiance. The ceviche is always a hit, and this time I had mushroom tacos that were fabulous. Maddy is a great server!"

  • "Thoroughly enjoyed our meal from start to finish, not a bad bite all night! Great ambiance and wait staff- attentive and friendly. Ever changing menu with interesting and unique flavor combinations adding a nice twist to usual upscale Mexican fare. Notables were the ceviche sampler - all three outstanding! Scallop appetizer was perfectly seared and good portion. Mushroom Sopas were excellent - earthy hearty mushrooms paired with crema and guac on a corn sopa with just enough zip in the salsa to pull it all together. Also excellent were the lamp enchilladas with tasty chili roasted sauce. We were too full for the homemade churros - next time!!"

  • "We split like 3 apps and they were all very good; especially the ceviche. Great margaritas and service as well. Make a reservation cause it's really popular."

  • "Food choices are very interesting and not what you'll find anywhere else. Food is excellent. Coffee after dinner was surprisingly good for decaf."

  • "Great food, the Lamb Shank Nachos were outstanding! Menu changes weekly so every week is a new surprise:)"

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner here. Everything was well prepared and a treat to the senses. It is a small restaurant and we watched many people get turned away at the door without reservations. Definitely make reservations. We love margaritas and the ones here were the best we have ever had. Everything is fresh and beautifully presented. It is a bit loud but intimate at the same time."

  • "The palette of flavors is a rainbow, Limones takes the basic Tex-Mex food to a new level. Margaritas are awesome (but not inexpensive)."
    Dined on 6/25/2014
  • "We had a great meal, definitely a Spanish flair with the food, but not a lot of "beans, nachos, etc." more upscale Spanish. Chef does an excellent job. Will definitely go there again."

  • "It is hard to have the best food in Asheville, but Limones definitely competes for that honor."
    Dined on 6/27/2014
  • "Have eaten here numerous times and it's never a disappointment. The chef is creative, presentation is excellent and service wonderful. Even though the restaurant can be noisy at times, this is a gem and not to be missed."

  • "Probably my favorite in Asheville. Ceviche to die for!!!!"

  • "We've heard good things about Limones for some time and Thursday night was our first visit. The restaurant was full but our reserved table was ready and waiting. Good service with suggestions when asked. A cucumber margarita was perfect---no pre-mix here. Definitely hand crafted. My lamb shank enchilada was delicious. It would be difficult not to order it again, but my husband's sea scallops were the biggest we've seen (and he always orders them so we've seen quite a few) and perfectly seared. The appetizer menu is extremely creative and it would be fun to choose two or three items instead of an entree. We will definitely return."

  • "Although we go to Limones regularly my one complaint it always takes a LONG time to have someone to take our drink order, a longer time to have it served, and a longer time to order a another. This seems pretty short sighted by the management because I would think that drinks and wine are a big source of income for a restaurant."

  • "Our waiter brad provided an excellent experience! Quality of food was amazing......just a little dissapointed with the menu options. No room to stand while waiting for a table. Suggest changing host table to a tall skinny podium."

  • "I took my wife here for our 10th anniversary as well to sample this spot for my medical company's regional meeting in July. Unfortunately, our service was not good. The food was excellent, but we were there for 3 hours! We ordered 4 appetizers, the first of which did not arrive to our table until an hour after we had been there. Our entrees, 2 hours after we had been there, dessert was 25 minutes after it was ordered. Our water was refilled one time, no one checked on us to ask if we were happy with our food or needed anything. In spending $200, I would have hoped for more attentive service. I do not believe this was the fault of our waiter for it appeared he was spread very thin across the restaurant."

  • "Made reservations on a suggestion of a local foodie. It was my birthday and perfect restaurant for a celebration, service was phenomenal, food was delectable, cocktail menu was to die for, noise level was perfect, pricing was reasonable for a great meal and a few drinks. I would recommend to any and all people who enjoy food. Reservations definitely a must. Can't wait to come back, live in Simpsonville SC...but we WILL be back,"

  • "Fully enjoyed our dinner. Creative presentations, food choices perfectly prepared and very tasty. Service was warm, prompt, perhaps a little too quick in serving the entree after the appetizer but not a major problem. And the cost was very reasonable."

  • "I've only been to Limones twice, the first time two years ago, which should speak for itself. A classically trained French chef serving Mexican cuisine......awesome! Their cucumber-lime Marguerita is a must. Whether you are a vegetarian or carnivore you won't be disappointed. I only wish I didn't eat every bite of my dinner so I would have had room for dessert!"

  • "One of the best meals I've ever had. Definitely recommend the lobster nachos as an appetizer. Super cute and fun decorations and good atmosphere"

  • "One word says it best.....Yumeeeeeeee! I live in Florida so I'm only in Asheville a few times a year but EVERY time I am in town, Limones is a must. It is a little treasure tucked off the main drag but apparently not a secret, so reservations are recommended. Food, marguerites (especially the caliente), and staff......ALL exceptional."

  • "The appetizer list looked so good that we decided to make a dinner of them. The ceviche was top-notch, as were all the other appetizers. I didn't expect to be so wowed by the duck sausage with baby peas and truffles, but the flavors were unique and delicious. My wife and I agreed that the scallops we had were probably the best tasting we had ever eaten. The margaritas were tasty, too - the fresh-squeezed lime juice makes a big difference. We could tell that everything that came to our table was tended to with care and culinary expertise."

  • "The night started when we walked in the door and we were seated by a cautious and professional hostess. The server quickly got to our table for drink orders. The drinks were fabulous with fresh squeezed juice and high end tequila. The lamb nacho appetizer and ceviche were fantastic. The main courses were out of this world and the flour less chocolate cake was amazing Homemade chocolates even came with the bill. The night from beginning toend was amazing."

  • "Wonderful dinner ... Fresh and creative ...very professional service ... Was surprised to find owner taking up table during busy dinner rush ... Busy must be good! ... Smashed my head on glass door ... Very dangerous situation ... Owner was aware of my accident ... But did very little to see if I was ok ... Maybe it's her first time being a owner ... Maybe it's a hobby business ... Would be surprised in AVL !"

  • "I was in town just for one day on business and found this gem right in downtown Asheville. There is a parking garage nearby so no need to try to find street parking. The meal was so delicious with complex and unique flavors. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a delicious upscale mexican meal."
