A word from Le Yaca
Le Yaca began in a tiny, country village(Courchevel)in the French Alps in 1964.Daniele Bourderau & Gerard decided that it would be fun to open a small restaurant. When friends learned of their plans they told the hopeful restaurateurs that they were crazy to think that people would drive 8 kilometers on a winding, icy road for dinner.Daniele and Gerard hesitated for 3 months and then decided: “yaca le faire,” a contraction of the French phrase “ il n’y a qu’a le faire” which basically means “let’s do it.” They called the restaurant Le Yaca as a gag. But the name caught on with customers, who were amused by the pun and contributed to the restaurant’s lore by inventing “yaca-isms ” of their own: yaca y aller (let’s go). Daniele came to the United States & opened Le Yaca in Williamsburg.Daniel Abid bought le Yaca in 2001. Daniel worked and trained in such prestigious places as “Le Pre Catelan” and “Lenotre” in Paris; “L’Amandier” and “Roger Verge" and to top it all off “Alain Ducasse.”Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "After initial visits to le yaca' s new location, I worried that the quality of service wouldn't survive in the bigger place. So sloowww! Polite as always, friendly, but nothing came on time, and items were forgotten: bread, wine, appetizers. Much reminding necessary. Unheard of in the old place. (All front of the house problems. The quality of the food never faltered). So I was happy to see standards back to normal on a recent visit. My request for quiet seating noted and honored, wine order taken and served right away, each course following when we were ready. The service flawless, professional and cordial. Like old times! And the food as ever, the best."

  • "Corkage is obscene ($30). Food is excellent and if you get Ming, service is consistently good."

  • "Our server, Ming, was great and the Chef was both accommodating and generous. One of the handful of real restaurants in south east VA."

  • "This place is phenomenal! When even their soup can make you say "Wow!" then you know it's great. Literally everything we ate was the best food ever. The crab crepe was to die for. I dine in NYC and DC often and nothing compares to Le Yeca. It's not only a Williamsburg gem, it's simply a gem."

  • "Our favorite restaurant in Williamsburg. Food is always perfect and service great"

  • "We dined on a Monday, a training night, perhaps?. Nothing serious, mind you, but mushroom soup was ordered, onion soup was delivered (pureed and too mild for my taste) . No olives in the martini, which was to be dirty and wasn't. The waiter attempted to take a man's order first, rather than the woman's. This is not an inexpensive restaurant, service should be impeccable. The main courses (pork, duck and beef tenderloin), however, were excellent, although they were served lukewarm. The room was bright; tables were fairly close, and on a busy night, some would be partially in doorways. A chocolate lava dessert was outstanding. All in all, a pleasant evening in a nicer restaurant than the old one."

  • "Kudos to Madame and staff for creating an excellent dining experience. Everything we ordered was cooked to perfection. We love this restaurant and come regularly, especially if we have out of town guests. Moving here last year from the NYC metro area we love to show our visitors from back home that Williamsburg can compete with with our favorite northern dining rooms."

  • "The 3 course lunch was a good start since it was my first time to eat at this restaurant. The food was hot and tasteful. The menu items are inexpensive and at a very reasonable price for the food served. The waiter, Shane was wonderful and caring. He always came with a smile and checked on us a few times and asked if we needed anything. I am sure to go back to try for dinner."

  • "Four people with four different tastes met for lunch. We all had the onion soup which was delicious as always. We each ordered something different for lunch; we all were very pleased with our choices. The lettuce in the salads was cold and crisp; the beef grilled perfectly. The tuna was obviously fresh; my fillet mignon with sauce was outstanding. The new location is more conveniently located and has the charm of a Parisian café. We were the first ones there. As other diners came in, they were seated a comfortable distance from us and not the usual next-table-closeness for the convenience of the wait staff. We have been to Le Yaca many times; it is our favorite place for all occasions."

  • "Le Yaca never fails to deliver a high quality meal in a pleasant atmosphere. The new restaurant venue provides a very nice setting w- a mix of modernism & the traditional. Last Saturday evening, the daily flounder special w/a touch of truffle oil was light & just right for a summer evening. The potato/leek soup was a purée which made it light & fragrant. My husband's Dover Sole (his favorite entree) was expertly prepared & paired w/ farm fresh vegetable sides. Best wishes to everyone at Le Yaca!"

  • "My sister came from Maryland for a visit and we wanted to take her to the most special place we knew for lunch. Le Yaca filled the bill in every way. The food was delicious (and we had three different entres), plus soup and dessert. The service was wonderful. I had the corn chowder, which was creamy and delicious. For my entre I had two lamb chops over mixed vegetables. The chops were cooked perfectly and there was more than enough for one meal. For dessert I got the flourless chocolate cake, which was rich and decadent. An excellent meal in every way."

  • "The food and service were excellent. Our waiter, Minh, was friendly and very efficient. This is a great place for lunch. We didn't sit outside this time due to the heat, but the outside area is spectaular and unlike any other I have ever seen. Best spot for outside dining in Williamsburg in my opinion. Can't wait to try it."

  • "A beautiful and charming restaurant! The food was absolutely delicious, the service solicitous, the ambience lovely and warm. Very pricey but worth it for a special occasion. I'm sure you could spend much less and have a wonderful experience as well. We wondered why it wasn't more crowded; the prices probably keep it out of the range of a typical tourist destination. But that's good for those who are looking for a special evening out. Can't wait to return for a winter meal in front of the fireplace!"

  • "Last year we had family in from out-of-town and celebrated a birthday at the restaurant. We had lunch there and our family was so impressed with the food, service and staff. Now every time they come to town they insist that we go there. This year we had lunch again and they said this was one of the best parts of the trip to Williamsburg...the food and service is above and beyond!"

  • "We found this restaurant by chance and we are so glad we did. We started at the bar with a drink and the staff was nothing but helpful and the prices are fantastic. We ordered a great Bordeaux that was everything no we hoped it would be. My wife started with the soup soup and I had an arugula salad. We both had the steak mine with a lobster tail and my wife's with a crab cake. Both were superb. The meal finished with desert of a warm Apple tart with vanilla ice cream for me and a Chocolate flourless cake for my wife. The meal was one of the best we have ever had."

  • "Le Yaca was amazing. The staff was amazing! This was our first experience there and we got lost (wonderful gps) so we called and the staff gave us directions and were very pleasant. When we arrived we were greeted and then seated in a beautiful elegant looking room with dim lighting and candles. There were fresh flowers at each table and the waitress was amazing. Not being a wine drinker we were able to sample some and find the right one for us. We were checked on frequently throughout our visit and the food was amazing. The steaks were very tender and the crab cake was the best I have ever had. We will definately be visiting again next time we are in town."

  • "The food was exceptional. The oysters caught my attention by being free from the shell, most places they are still attached! We are long time fans of Le Yaca and were quite surprised and puzzled by their moving locations but we are very pleased with the result."

  • "Dined here as a group of four, and everyone was pleased with the restaurant décor, food, and wait staff. Wine list could have been larger (maybe two choices of popular varietals like Zinfandel?), but we liked the French Malbec we selected. Live guitar music made great background for conversation. The crab and sea bass were both very good--fresh and rich with no fillers in the crab. One diner chose the vegetable plate and enjoyed it greatly--it contained some zingy capers which perked up the whole plate. An overall VERY nice time. Will definitely be back!"

  • "Excellent meal and outstanding service by our waiter Minh. Theses bass and the veal were perfect. A truly exceptional dinning experience! Only one complaint....I mentioned in the reservation request that we would be celebrating my wife's birthday that evening. Upon arrival, I mentioned to the hostess about the birthday and she acknowledged that she knew about the birthday. Unfortunately, somebody dropped the ball as there was no acknowledgement by the staff of my wife's birthday. Then again, maybe things have changed at Le Yaca since our last visit."

  • "The young Vietnamese man, a graduate of William & Mary, tending bar, was outstanding! We would go back just to experience him alone! His father happened to be our waiter offering phenominal service all evening. The food was marvelous. The people were friendly, welcoming and helpful. The atmosphere was calm and unhurried. The lighting and decor were very tastful and relaxing. Truly a night to remember. This place will replace my favorite restaurant in Williamsburg!"

  • "We ate at Le Yaca for brunch this past Sunday. This place is great. My only suggestion is that if you do not drink a Mimosa or Bloody Mary you would be better off going on a Saturday. The brunch on Sunday costs a little more because of the drinks. My wife and I do not drink, so our next trip there will be on a Saturday. Overall, great experience."

  • "La Yaca has been a favorite of ours for years. In all that time we have never failed to have good service and excellent food. This time it was for their daily lunch special. Great food at a great price...a double delight. If my wife and I want a special night out, La Yaca is always our first option. Do yourself a favor and give it a try, if you haven't already done so."

  • "It was supposed to be a very special anniversary celebration...what a disappointment! We were not greeted...very poor seating (dark and in the corner in some back room) Service was forgotten. We got the leftovers and no mention of our 33 wedding anniversary. Food was good but rushed a bit... Not a stellar experience! La Yaca must slow down and pay attention to customers who reserve dining and want a dynamic experience worth $100 us per person."

  • "Our family enjoyed Williamsburg on its rich history and great food. Le Yaca nailed it for us. A hidden gem with fine dining, scrumptious and topnotch quality food, warm ambience and great service. From appetizers (lobster bisque, yum) to entree (escargot, NY Strip steak, grilled shrimp with seasoned vegetables) and desserts (tiramisu with espresso sauce and the La Marquaise de chocolate), everything was delicious and exquisite. We loved it so much that we dined there for lunch in 2 consecutive days. We miss this restaurant. Thank you for this wonderful experience!!!"
