From the OpenTable editors: When Le Pigeon opened in 2006, it put Portland on the culinary map. The best seats in the intimate, brick-walled dining room are at the chef’s counter, where you’ll get a front row view of multi-James Beard Award-winner Gabriel Rucker’s dazzling, French-forward dishes. Cap the evening with playful desserts that could include foie gras profiteroles or a glass from the luscious Oregon- and French-centric wine list.

We’ve been driving down to Portland from Seattle for the sole reason to have dinner at Le Pigeon at least once a year since (l think) 2015. We brought friends with us for last night’s dinner. They couldn’t stop gushing about their experience food & the experience today. Well worth the drive EVERY time!!

The most outstanding thing was the dessert: a foie gras profiterole, which they are known for apparently. The flavor combination was so unexpected, and completely divine. Working backwards, the wagyu was very good, as was the steelhead trout, but the star of the show was the lumpia. Very imaginative and the textures worked perfectly together. The pairings were great, the service was great. I would love to see this restaurant do outdoor seating, with a little cafe menu. The sidewalks are nice and large, but they would need to be cleaned regularly. As it was, we stepped over a huge spilled coffee to get in the restaurant at 4:00 p.m. on a Sunday.

Le Pigeon is a cozy little restaurant serving up crazy good imaginative food, using many locally sourced elements. The staff is knowledgeable and pleasant, as are the busy chefs in the open kitchen. When they had the time they were happy to answer all the questions that we, and other guests, peppered them with. A great experience for a special occasion!

Le Pigeon is a foodies dream. The menu is a fixed menu, and it changes every month or two. We went for our anniversary dinner and sat at the chef's counter. The chefs were meticulous with their cooking and plating and very friendly. The staff were professional yet open and friendly. We chose the omnivore menu and also got a wine pairing. The person who matches the wine with each dish does an excellent job. This dinner ranks in my top 5 meals ever. Each plating is thought out, offering the main flavor, and the rest of the plate provides the balance of savory or sweet, with the perfect acid balance. I will be keeping an eye open for their next menu change and see what is new for me to experience. (See their website, which shows the current menu for both their omnivore and vegetarian menu.) If you love trying new flavors or old ones with a twist, Le Pigeon is the place to try. If you're just looking to get drinks, or drinks and snacks, go next door to Canard. (Same head chef.)

No question, the best restaurant in Portland. Even better than Michelin starred restaurants in NYC, Chicago, Modena. And I’ve been to EMP, Daniel, Le Bernardin, Le Coucou, Alinea, Osteria Francescana.

The omnivore menu was a revelation and just the right amount to call "dinner" The paired wines enhanced each course beautifully. Each plate was beautiful and delicious. The service was prompt, polite, and very knowledgeable. This isn't a place one can visit often on a limited budget, but each occasion will, I promise you, be memorable!

We were very happy with our menu and the wine pairings. Our waitstaff was very attentive and engaging along with Anna being VERY knowledgeable about the wine. The restaurant is very intimate and well appointed. It was fun to see the Chef behind the counter doing what Chefs do! We would return in a heartbeat.
