Diner Reviews
  • "Great service, wonderful atmosphere and the menu is always interesting and delicious."

  • "I was so upset about the terrible service we got at this restaurant, but when I read other reviews I realized I was not alone and felt better. The weird thing is, after asking 3 DIFFERENT people where our food (1 hour late) and drink refills were (20 minutes late) no one responded & just walked away! I assume to go find out, but they never returned and more oddly, didn't even stay long enough to listen to me finish speaking or say anything like "i'm sorry let me go check.' they literally walked away mid sentence. THREE people. Then we finally get the waitress, I am beside myself at this point, and she does the same thing! no apology ever! The manager (or who I assume is the manager) was one of them. This place is odd and ridiculous."

  • "I like to go to Le garage for a first date, a lunch by the water, to speak french with the owner. Burgers are great and there is a small bar where you can grab a quick bite."

  • "Was intrigued by the name and that it's a former garage. Our server was very intuitive, knowing when to hover, when to stay away. The grilled steelhead and asparagus were very tasty. Definitely recommend the stuffed squash appetizer. The $70 bottle of Quivera Zinfandel was exquisite. If you're a Baby Boomer or older, the font on the menu is very pretty and pretty difficult to read. Overall - a nice dining experience."

  • "One of my favorite Sausalito spots. Food, ambiance, and staff are all wonderful. Pair that with a warm evening, a bottle of rose, and you have the perfection!"

  • "The staff is almost as good as the food! Sorry guy's, your great, but Love the food!"

  • "Le Garage is a little gem, next to Sausalito beach. The food has gotten so much better, more fresh and organic - almost farm to table, especially on vegetables. We ordered Surf & Turf - Beef Tenderloin and Fresh Maine Lobster Tail and Fresh Fettuccini, Massachusetts Dayboat Scallops. They were delicious. We ordered 2011 Chateau de la Gardine Red and it was gorgeous. Overall, we really enjoyed our experience, and would definitely come back again soon."

  • "Such a "delicious" little spot-both food-wise and ambience-wise. We'll be back soon!"

  • "Our evening at Le Garage was a great experience. The food was excellent and the service was good. It is an interesting ambiance. On a Friday night it was a little loud and chaotic. The tables are quite close to each other, which does not offer a very intimate experience. The wine menu was good, but offered no cocktails."

  • "I love Le Garage, L' Apart and F3. All are friendly, casual and fun. Never a bad meal and always friendly smiling folks working the bar, door or food."

  • "Great atmosphere and beautiful views of the harbor. The food was presented beautifully, but my tenderloin medallions were tasteless. Our waiter was friendly, but annoyingly told us "bon apetite" about 50 times while playing up his frenchness. Overall not a repeat."

  • "The goat cheese filled squash blossoms were perfect and the surf 'n' turf was cooked perfectly. The wine recommendation was flawless & service was flawless! Consistently good!"

  • "If this was our first time here,I wouldn't hurry back, but we've been here so many times we will just say that we will certainly give them another oppty. All restaurants can have an off night. Food was bland."

  • "We went to Le Garage not knowing what to expect people we asked re directions all commented, you are really going to enjoy it. And we did superb food first class service and lovely position in a quirky setting. We have never eaten in such a first class garage!! Nice crowd with vibrant atmosphere."

  • "How can you beat sunset dinner next to the harbor in Sausalito? Amazing food. Loved the stuffed squash flower appetizer! Great wine!"

  • "Nice "hidden" place in Sausalito. Thanks to "Check please!" for revealing this restaurant to us. Simple but comfortable atmosphere at the harbor. Food is very good and nicely presented. Wine list is long enough. Squash blossoms stuffed with goat cheese melting in your mouth! Mussels and duck breasts are yummy! French fries prepared with herbs is so good! Service is very good. Grand merci!"

  • "It really is in a garage - but with great French food. With a view to a yacht harbor. and I mean yacht not boat harbor ."

  • "Another nice stop at Le Garage to meet old friends. We were on time and entered a quiet bistro, but by the time we left things were rocking. Just off the water in Sausolito, the place has a real garage feeling which the owners have played up to with the uniforms. Great place for a conversation with friendly and helpful wait-staff who do not push you to turn over the table. We loved the white burgundy recommended by our waiter (corkage waived on our other bottle) and also loved the charcuterie appetizer. Halibut entrees were great if somewhat diminutive, the steak frites, however was huge. One diner had the veggies pasta option, which was delicious. All this plus cheese for dessert. A great time at Le Garage."

  • "Amazing find. Incredible food. We kinda over did it....beet salad, charcuterie platter, fettuccini with large scallops, duck, chocolate molten cake, bottle of wine and a glass of port. All were excellent! (We did take home half of our dinners) really good service, and, for us, the atmosphere was perfect."

  • "A little disappointed with the meal. It wasn't as good as all of the previous meals. Mussels are my go-to dish here, but they were overcooked and the broth was watery and needed to be reduced for depth of flavor. The other person had the rib-eye steak and frites with morel sauce. It was lovely. I'd like to think that maybe this was just an off night for the kitchen because I love this restaurant, the staff and the location. Will go back and give it another try."

  • "As a French girl who lives in the USA since 8 month, this dinner at Le Garage was a real taste from my home country ! The mussels marinière were succulent and the duck delightful ! I can't describe the Crème Brulée, such it was sssooooo goood ! The ambiance is class and warm. The view on the marina with the boats is pretty. I had a really good time and it was for me a good occasion to show to my american family how we eat in France. "

  • "This was my first time at Le Garage. I loved the venue although the noise was a bit surprising. The waiters were lovely. My vegetarian plate (not on the menu) was DELICIOUS and SATISFYING; I was skeptical when I saw it because it was not what I envisioned, but it very well done. My only complaint was the wine prices, and this is what will prevent me from returning. $10, $12, $14 per glass for the basic wines by the glass is inordinately high; I would recommend some more reasonable choices, as well, ($7-$8) -- just a thought! If this changes, we'll be back!"

  • "Always coming here is a treat. The food never ever disappoints with positively fresh ingredients and the je ne sais quoi making every French dish divine from salad dressings or sauces or simple preparations which are distinctive.Wish I remembered to come more often. "

  • "Our French waiter really made it memorable. Great food, good wine, and our children (9-15) loved it!"

  • "The layout of the restaurant doens't help the servers either. With their backs to you constantly, they have no way to scan the dining area. The bar, the kitchen, the breadboard, the touchscreen order placement- all require them to turn 180 degrees from the dining room. Its hard to get anyones attention in here."

  • "We've eaten at Le Garage many times. We really like the food and frenchy service. This night however a couple of things... We brought a bottle of wine and waiter said he would waive corkage if we bought a bottle (standard practice). When we chose our second bottle he tried to steer us away from our selection towards a pricier wine as he thought the bottle we brought was way better than the Malbec we wanted to order - It was a bit awkward since we know wine. The other issue was that it took 45 minutes between appetizer and entrée - way too long as other tables sitting after us were served before us. Somebody dropped the ball... Thanks."

  • "I had heard that the food was exceptional; however, I thought it was bland with small portions and could not understand or read the menu. It was so loud, I tried to communicate with the service that we did not understand the menu and wanted explanation, but never accomplished that. Had to ask if bread came with the meal as we noticed everyone else was being served bread.. Finally when we were leaving the waiter gave us a menu to take home to study? a little late... "

  • "Le Garage has found a nice balance between traditional french and california cuisine, food is excellent, service good but the noise level is insane inside so sit outside if you can. Nice view of the yacht harbor and Tiburon across the water."

  • "We were out to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We got a tasty salad and a tomato and bell pepper soup, together with a piece of bread so hard that I still feel soreness in my soft palate. Then the main deception: a lamb dish that was quite tough. We were not asked about how done we wanted the meat, and therefore we were served lamb that was rare (something that we really abominate). The garnishment for the lamb was totally deprived of flavor. We ordered side dishes that never came to the table. To finish we had the worst desserts dishes that we can remember. Do I foreget anything? Oh, yes, my beer was not cold enough. "

  • "Our dinner was fantastic but when we have to wait 45 minutes between being given menus and water and seeing our waiter on a Wednesday, something is wrong. But, the food more than compensated for being ignored most of the evening. The muscles are amazing. "

  • " A lovely place to have a fine dinning experience, very good food, service and ambience. The noise level was energetic, could of been a little quieter, but then it may have added to my own engagement. Try it you'll like it ."

  • "I loved the food and the service was very good. The waitress was very patient with my dining companion asking a lot of questions. You have to try the chick pea fries. Awesome! They are thick cut and come with a very yummy goat cheese, hazelnut dip."

  • "This was our first visit. I reserved on OT and mentioned both in the reservation and when we arrived that it was an important wedding anniversary. 1) When we arrived, the hostess and manager insisted that we didn't have a reservation, until they finally found it then apologized (not a great start), 2) Despite mentioning our milestone, there was not one mention of it throughout the evening. This was a special occasion and a splurge for us and it would have been nice for some gesture, and 3) although the food was great, we couldn't hear ourselves talk or truly savor the food with the noise levels. So, calling this a romantic restaurant or good for special occasions is a stretch. Perhaps a weekday night would have been a better experience."

  • "We always enjoy the food here. Squash blossoms, panisse, beet salad, charcuterie are excellent starters. Entrees are good, but portions have been diminishing in size (exception = moules are piled high in the bowl). Desserts are reliable. We lucked out with the weather during the bay area's recent heat wave, so patio dining was absolutely gorgeous. French accented waiters are charming, but the service was incredibly slow this past visit. "
