Diner Reviews
  • "When I booked this table, all I wanted was a delicious and romantic dinner to celebrate me and my partners anniversary. What we got was Ray. Ray was an unpretentious, friendly, master at service. His timing was impeccable, knowledge masterful, and professionalism superb. The duck foi grois was decadent and delicious. i had the Suckling which was fantastic and my Partner had the hot and solid which was some sort of impossibly magnificent lobster cake. we dine at the finer restaurants in the DC and Baltimore area regularly and this venue beats most if not all we had tried before. Ray was great, but his colleagues all did a fantastic job at making us feel like we were guests of honor. Merci beaucoup!"

  • "This has got to be the best restaurant in Montreal, I've been here four times now and all four times I was completely blown away by how good their food is. I highly recommend their surf and turf (chasse et peche) which is half a lobster slow cooked in butter and veal filet mignon, honestly, all steak and lobsters should taste like that. It's absolutely cooked to perfection. Their appetizers are always wonderful as well, try their veal sweetbread or fritto misto with snowcrab & avocado salad. Overall such a nice restaurant, quiet and romantic place to go on a date."

  • "Food is absolutely delicious, a bit pricy for relatively small size of food. But we'll, still worth it. Kinda hard to find it from outside, quite hidden. But atmosphere is awesome and service is great as well."

  • "Everything I want from a fine dining restaurant! The food was delicious, beautifully composed and creative. The interior of the restaurant, while showing the character of the older buildings of the old port, was charming (though could have used a very small fraction more light). The staff were helpful and very knowledgeable. Great evening!"

  • "The food here is to die for, and the service excels. A relatively small menu that the waiter will discuss with you in detail. Cannot wait to get back there!"

  • "Gourmet dining at its finest. Hats off to the chefs. The food was meticulously presented and the quality of the meat and fish were outstanding. The waitress reccomended the wines for pairing and were right on."

  • "We went for our wedding anniversary dinner and were not disappointed. Everything was special, from the greeting we had from the maître d' who recognized us from many years ago when he worked at another restaurant to the lovely decor and the fabulous food. Our waiter Gabriel whom we also knew from a previous restaurant helped guide us through the delectable menu and served us with a contagious smile. The hamachi tartare and scallop appetizers were divine, the duck magret and artic char perfection. The addition of a citrusy Sauvignon blanc topped off a superb meal. Not to mention the tempura zucchini flower and crabmeat appetizer that was sent to us compliments of the chef between services. I can not say enough about this terrific evening."

  • "In an age where it seems so many restaurants are vying for attention with over-the-top dishes and presentation, this was perhaps the best meal we've had in years. The chef puts together fantastic yet subtle dishes where every bite delights. Our server was extremely knowledgeable about both the food and the wine list and recommended a Barolo that complemented both my wife's suckling pig and my lamb chops perfectly. A bit pricey, this (for us) is a special occasion restaurant, but this was on our 25th anniversary trip. If you are in Montreal and a real gourmet, do not miss this wonderful restaurant."

  • "The menu is small, but you will want everything on it. For serious foodies only, and those with hefty wallets. The food was all superb. While the wine list is extensive and impressive, I would have appreciated a larger selection of wines by the glass (only about 4-5 each, white and red)."

  • "This is what you'd expect from a $$$$ fine dining restaurant -- highly garnished food, beautifully presented, excellent service, steep prices. Was disappointed (and surprised) that we had let the restaurant know this was an anniversary special occasion for us, and they said and did nothing -- we expected more from this caliber of restaurant on that front. Would also recommend any future diners to buy the bottle of wine -- the wines by the glass are modest pours, especially for the prices charged."

  • "Excellent dinner, great menu with equally good service.Broad wine list heavily oriented to French wines but focused on 'food-friendly'. We ate early, 6pm,and had very leisurely dinner, room almost full and noise level very acceptable for normal conversation over meal."

  • "The food was absolutely amazing! Fine dining at its best. We had an amazing evening! We will be returning to the restaurant on our next trip to Montreal."

  • "Excellent food and service. We were annoyed by a drunk couple at the bar that was very noisy."

  • "Can't say quite enough good stuff about this place - we booked, after lots of deliberation, for our third anniversary. I must say, we were not disappointed. The place is elegant, without being stuffy (dark, atmospheric, cozy and with a vaguely elegant 70's boîte-feel). The Maitre D - an unflappably chic lady was flawless in her breakdown of the menu items, highlighting the pros and cons of each. We chose the piglet risotto and scallops as appetizers, the surf and turf and kobe beef as mains and two amazing desserts to finish. This place is spot on for a foodie, romantic dinner. Thoroughly recommended as our favorite of many good meals in Montreal."

  • "This place absolutely did not disappoint. Though my foie gras appetaizer was some of the best seared foie gras I've ever had, my dining companion's risotto is the dish we will talk about for years to come. Amazing. He's tough to please and even he had to admit that it was in his top 10 favorite restaurant dishes of all time. Dessert was also quite good, but pretty pedestrian. My only complaint was that we were seated near a table of very loud drunk people. The entire rest of the dining room was ready to tar and feather them and several people complained. I understand trying to strike a balance and allowing people to enjoy their meal, but this one group nearly ruined dinner for the rest of us."

  • "Relaxed atmosphere but noisy when the restaurant was full. Food was exceptional."

  • "We are regulars and we are never disappointed. Great food, delicious wine and fabulous service. What more can you ask for?"

  • "Everything we tasted, especially the "chasse et peche" offering for the evening (lobster and veal in a very light sauce, each tasting of itself yet melding into a truly unified and succulent dish) was superb. The physical arrangement of tables tends to be uncomfortable however and the table we were offered was next to a wall and other guests, so we asked for--and got--a more secluded table. Our neighbors were loud, which isn't therestaurant's fault, but the romantic quality of the place was certainly destroyed by these gregarious people. The waiter was exceptionally good--gracious and humorous and knowledgeable about the food and the wine list without being intrusive."

  • "Second visit was not a disappointment. From the front entry to the last farewell the experience was just perfect. The service was outstanding, the menu is not huge but the quality is superb. The chef has a passion for cooking that you can taste. We requested a nice, bold red wine and were not disappointed. Already looking forward to our next trip across the border!"

  • "The meal was a huge disappointment. For such a great reputation, everything for the most part was very subpar. We had the oysters (good for the most part), tartare (totally tasteless, and uninteresting), risotto (ok), and the surf n turf and arctic char. The surf n turf was again, really average, not a ton of interesting play with flavours whatsoever. Won't be going back"

  • "Had a great meal and definitely would return. Cool place. only negative is that it is a difficult to hear when the place is full."

  • "Many high end restaurants are a bit stuffy and quite. Le Club, on the other hand, offered a wonderful menu along with friendly staff. We were there from San Francisco, celebrating our anniversary, but it appeared to be a popular place for business meetings as well."

  • "La carte est courte mais délicieuse. Il n'y a pas de menu dégustation. La carte des spiritueux devrait être revue: Armagnac millésimés non disponibles?!"

  • "Montreal has many exquisite french restaurants, but I sincerely believe that this one stands head and shoulders above the rest. My wife and I dined at Le Club Chasse et Peche to celebrate our 5 year anniversary. This was, without any doubt, the best meal either of us has ever enjoyed. The scallop entree was beyond anything we had ever experienced. The veal and lobster chasse et peche was delectable, and my wife raved about the atlantic haddock filet with mussels and sweet potatoes. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who appreciates an incredible meal paired with exotic wines. We will dine here every time we visit Montreal in the future and will always consider it the highlight of our visit."

  • "wonderful food, long superb wine list, comfortable spacing between tables, very friendly staff, simple but great environment. Able to shift easily for the vegetarian. Would be a high end restaurant in any major city."

  • "One of the best meals we've had anywhere ! Dishes are absolutely delicious & service was outstanding. To truly experience the best Montreal dinning, you must dine here ! Highly recommended !"

  • "Unique combination of flavors in the dishes. Requires a willingness to experiment, however, not your usual meat and potatoes. "

  • "The most exceptional dining experience during our 5 day visit, and one of the best anywhere. Loved the clubby, animal-themed setting. Service is efficient but comfortable and friendly (very Danny Meyer's like!). And the food! Menu is small, but there were options for everyone, and every plate was beautiful, innovative and delicious. Highly recommended."

  • "Small but excellent menu, with superb food. Very friendly staff, and it did not seem to matter that we were first time patrons from out of town. Great ambience. Tables are close together and it can be a bit noisy, but not excessively so. Wonderful special occasion restaurant."

  • "Food was very good, a little pretentious perhaps but definitely good. Service started out very well, waiter helped us pair wines to the food. However, it started to get very busy and very loud and service suffered. There was a table of six men close to ours, that always increases the volume in a restaurant. The physical design (old Montreal) has low ceilings and there was no place for the noise to go. Restaurants should think more about placement of tables, many two-tops that close to a large one often means the the couple at the two-top will be overwhelmed by large parties. We sat for a very long time at an empty table waiting for our bill. Lots of staff, but no one asked us if we even wanted more water... we just sat and waited. "

  • "My wife and I had our anniversary dinner at Le Club (first time clients). Unlike many restaurants that feature high-end modern cuisine, the ambience was warm and unpretentious. We felt welcome and at ease from the moment we entered. The menu was concise but well varied, and the wine list impressive. The service was impeccable: we received down-to-earth descriptions of the menu items, good advice on wine pairing, and our every need was met without having to ask. Notable menu choices: Appetizer: the Hamachi tartare was exquisite, Main: the magret de canard was the best we've tried on this side of the Atlantic, Dessert: the Sultan (paired with a smooth espresso) was so good I'd go back just for dessert! Overall a perfect dining experience."

  • "The beauty of the neighborhood architecture carries into the ambience of the restaurant. A quaint "underground" locale with stone walls and accent lit sconces. More importantly though, is the food. The presentation is superb. Gorgeous plates. Colorful, vibrant and well composed. But the taste, the combination of textures and flavors is what really drives the experience home. My wife and I went on our honeymoon on a recommendation from our hotel and from reviews we had read online. We used this restaurant as our splurge dining experience. It was not for the lite wallet but it was worth every penny (or dime in Montreal since they don't have pennies). "

  • "Wonderful experience from tip to tail. The staff was knowledgeable, attentive and personable. The atmosphere was stylish, comfortable and distinctive. The wine list was exhausting, but rewarding. The food was masterful. Pure pleasure. I would recommend to anyone. A must-do dining experience for every foodie that visits Montreal."

  • "A 4 diamond culinary experience without the pretense. The Ris de Veau and Scallops were cooked to perfection. The Deer Filet sliced like butter and the Surf & Turf was alive with flavour. Even the martinis were made with love. We will go again and again. "

  • "From the moment you arrive at the door, you feel welcomed & feel that the staff truly want you to enjoy your meal. The scallops were amazing & the Hamachi tuna tartare was very good! The vegetables were cute portions, very tasty. The duck was served on a bed of quinoa - not sure what was in it, but the tastes were great."

  • "Le Club Chasse et Peche was the first restaurant in which we dined just prior to moving to Montreal. It has always been special for that reason and we go back often for special occasions. The service is impeccable, always, and it's a treat to have dinner there."
