  • "Le Citron Bistro is one of those finds you write in your planner as a "MUST RETURN" location. Yes it is off the beaten path a bit, but well worth the exploration to find. No it is not in the FQ nor the CBD or even the Garden District. It's about 5 minutes from the convention center. Driving past you would never know it was a food jewel. But trust us it is. Order anything from the menu....we had the Red Beans & Rice Egg Rolls. I had the fried Shrimp and Catfish. My partner had the Drum. All were the best food we've ever had in NOLA. Yes, even better than Restaurant August and that is a feat in itself. The bread pudding was AMAZING. We will be back again and again!"

  • "Le Citron Bistro is a place an out-of-towner would probably not stop in without a recommend or a little research. Very unassuming exterior. Very old building. Super atmosphere. We got a warm greeting when we entered, and from that moment on, we really felt welcome and special. The food was (so far as a Californian can tell) genuine Creole. I have a feeling that the menu changes all the time depending on availability of fresh ingredients. I had soft-shell crabs, and wife had Drum, a wonderful white local fish. I can't recommend Le Citron Bistro enough. Definitely off the tourist track, but still only a few blocks from the French Quarter. We highly recommend them as a New Orleans dining experience."

  • "The food at Le Citron Bistro was top quality and the price was very reasonable, especially for New Orleans where eating out can be pricey. I highly recommend Le Citron Bistro. It is located in a historic building (1810), so the setting has old world charm and character. The food, however, is modern day delicious. It is worth the trip to the Lower Garden district to eat at this hidden gem. Your taste buds will thank you!"

  • "Fantastic and memorable evening! Tremendous service and accommodation for our 9 person group. We were staying in the French Quarter but didn't have a restaurant reserved within a couple hours of dinner time. We found this restaurant on Opentable but it required a taxi ride. It was well worth it. Tucked away in an industrial neighborhood is this gem of a restaurant in a historic building. The ambiance, friendliness of the staff and quality of the food made it a very special evening. Even though its a little off the beaten path, I highly recommend Le Citron Bistro for any special occasion or even just a memorable meal."

  • "We went as they were open. Oldest building outside the Quarter. Menu for Christmas included a dish with duck turkey and chicken. Had very good dressing as side. Also lamb leg and beef tenderloin were enjoyed. The local fresh fish nice too."

  • "Went with the family after reading overall very good reviews of the restaurant. The building is very old and unique and the courtyard is very nice as well. The food was good, but nothing outstanding. The salads were made in advance, and every one at our table got frozen salads. The service was definitely not used to a full house ( I think the waitress was also cooking in the kitchen half the night. Overall, I would give it three stars, but it could possibly score higher on a non holiday night."

Neighborhood looks sort of industrial and building is non-descript and inside unpretentious bare brick, but good and service were great and the experience satisfying.."

  • "I'm so glad we found this place. It's on the edge of the Garden a District next to the Arts district - not that far from the Quarter - either by a good walk or streetcar. We ate here on Thanksgiving day - a special menu - and it was delicious. The chef is excellent and the wait staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about the old building and neighborhood. The bread pudding was to die for!"

  • "Goin to Le Citron Bistro is an experience. Don't expect an efficient restaurant experience, things can dawdle a bit here. It is very much like any little, family owned bistro you would find on the winding roads along the Cote D'azur in France. The food is amazing and the building is the oldest one in NOLA (so they say). They don't mind if you wander to the kitchen to watch or get up to get your own second cup of coffee. With a full bar and a nice wine list, plan on having a relaxed leisurely dinner experience..."

  • "This was our first time at Le Citron Bistro but will not be our last. Located in one of the oldest buildings in New Orleans, the surroundings give a sense of history you will find no where else. Your treat is having Deborah serving your table. The food is typical New Orleans fare and delicious. Not too fancy and all good. The dishes are all prepared individually and making changes to your order was not a problem. We were totally surprised that more people were not there but don't let that keep you from enjoying a delightful experience."

  • "in this great little restaurant! The interior ambience is total NOLA. From the exposed brick walls to the charming decorations, the restaurant feels much more like an old home turned into a jazz club. The owner/chef was very friendly and attentive and eager top please. The food did not disappoint- every bite was yummy. Our server was a very cool woman with a unique style and charm of her own. We went there on a Saturday night at 7 pm and were only one of two parties in the place. I really do not know why it wasn't filled to capacity- maybe still a secret waiting to be spread! All in all, we loved our experience there and will add it to our list of favs!"

Cleaning supplies stored on the patio. Peeling paint. Etc. We were the only diners in the place. Should have gotten the hint."

  • "I don't generally write bad reviews, but this restaurant was truly dreadful. The soup seemed from a can. The vegetables were both overcooked and cold. Lamb chops came two on a plate, one cooked correctly and one overcooked and dry. The bread pudding was cold and the sauce was grainy. There was nothing about this meal that I can recommend, and I can't imagine how this restaurant stays in business."

  • "Hmmmm.. different? Historical building - very cool. Looked closed. Went on a Friday night and there was only one other patron there until we left and another couple came in. Food was not exactly available as on menu. Friendly service - got interesting info about the history of the property. It's in a pretty barren area - no other places to eat and a bit dilapidated around the block, but lots of very new apartments close by. All the food was pretty ok, very home-style. Bread was tasty. Hubby got catfish, and I got fried chicken (a bit out of norm for what I usually eat and quite good). Not sure how they get much business here. Read other reviews and a pretty mixed bag - I can see why."

  • "This place has a VERY interesting history behind it. The lady who seated us had many stories about this building and the owner is the fixer-upper, the owner, and the chef. I thought the main courses could have used more seasonings but our appetizer (fried green tomatoes) and the salad with the house dressing couldn't be beat! Overall great experience and very quiet find!!"
