Diner Reviews
  • "Only okay unfortunately, we had the prime rib "their specialty" and it was not impressive, but I wouldn't say it was bad. Only okay. The service was good, but it seemed like our waiter was the only person with people in his section, we felt slightly neglected at times. Not the service you expect when you consider the cost. Ended up leaving a 25% tip, not because it was deserved, but because I didn't feel like waiting another 15 minutes for my change. Side note, this place seems like it can't decide what it wants to be. It tries to say "hey I'm a high end steakhouse" but the decor and staff make it say "hey we're kind of a sportsbar/taqueria" Please decide what you are."

  • "I've probably eaten at Laurenzo's at least 50 times over the past five years, mostly for business lunches, but also for very romantic dinners with a special date. The interior is a mix of Chicago 1930's Art Decor and some of the most incredible sports memorabilia I've ever seen. But the topper is the excellent food (Prime Rib is a house specialty) but they have great seafood as well. The service is just a impeccable as the food and I've never been disappointed in the whole experience. One of Houston's hidden gems!"

  • "The restaurant has no idea how to handle large parties."

  • "Food was average. If you want pizza or a burger than the place is fine. Steak was the cost of a fancy steak place but the ribeye was thin cut and average quality. My wife got fish and it was bland. Waiter was very nice and overall good but they dropped my son's pizza and he had to wait about 15 min for them to cook another. They didn't even offer him a free scoop of icecream for the wait."

  • "There were several things that raised an eyebrow but I let it go as this was the only time that we ever had a negative experience at Laurenzo's. My Wife and I have dined here quite often because the quality of the food as well as the quality of the service. This is one of our top 5 favorite restaurants in the city. I will chalk this up to a new Waiter."

  • "Laurenzo's has the best prime rib in Houston, hands down. They know what they are doing! There are other menu gems as well, but this is the specialty. The service at Laurenzo's is excellent as well."

  • "Although we live across town we try to get to Laurenzo's as often as possible. After our first visit a couple of years ago it quickly became one of our favorite restaurants. The food is wonderful and the service is fantastic! Ask for Dallas as a waiter."

  • "I was expecting a different vibe when I walked in. The ambience is a bit dated. We sat and ordered drinks. The server was very helpful and attentive. Drinks came and we ordered our food. Food was awesome. (Try the hamburgers) Lerenzoes is expensive. So by a voucher try dampen the effect the bill will have kn your pocket book. 4 stars."

  • "We had the salmon appetizer and it was soooooo.good. It is a generous portion of tender, moist salmon served with a dill sauce in the side and some really nice, light chip/crackers....they are difficult to describe but they were a great accompaniment to the salmon. My husband had the shrimp and grits and I had the fish with panther train sauce and they were both absolutely delicious. I also had a margarita before dinner and a glass of house Chardonnay with my meal, all good."

  • "My friend and I split the steak and lobster, but when the plate was brought out, only the steak was cut in half. The creamed spinach was cold. The service was pleasant but not stellar. This was an average dinner."

  • "Hands down, best prime rib I've ever had. Great ceviche mixto appetizer, baked sweet potato was Outstanding! Great atmosphere, antique fine dining meets sports bar feel; quite unique! Can't wait to go back! Loved it!"

  • "Can't wait to return! Great experience! Food was fabulous! Our waiter was attentive & made recommendations for entrée selection. Couldn't imagine a better restaurant location before going to the Hobby Center. Very convenient to Downtown."

  • "Went for dinner here on the basis of a friends recommendation. We tried several different dishes including the shrimp and grits, the red fish with shrimp and crab on top, the prime rib sandwich and they prime rib quesadilla. All dishes were excellent! I did feel that the prices were a little on the high side but several of us had leftovers to take home so the servings were quite large. Our waiter, Robert, was excellent and we did not feel rushed even though the restaurant was very busy and people were waiting. We will definitely return!"

  • "I ordered a medium rare steak. When it was brought to the table it was clearly rare. I asked the waiter to send it back and again ordered it medium rare. When it returned to the table, it was the same piece of steak that had been thrown BACK on the grill and covered. It looked like a burnt hockey puck on the outside and tasted like charcoal. It was terrible. It was a $50.00 steak. If I am going to pay that much, then at least cook me a new piece of meat, not ruin the first one you didn't get right. We will not be eating here again!"

  • "Made 6 PM reservations for a Saturday. Not necessary, but the restaurant did fill up before we left. Service was friendly, but somewhat forgetful. Waiter took a moment to explain Laurenzo's history and go over his menu favorites. Took our order for drinks, came back for our appetizer and dinner order. Salads came out a little while later, but no appetizer and after 20 minute wait, he informs us, he forgot to put dinner order in. Dinner order arrives a bit later than expected, nothing wrong with the food, except he forgot the appetizer. He made it up by bringing sample of appetizer and treating us to dessert. Not a bad experience, will try again."

  • "Beef filet is always perfect! Our favorite side dish is the fresh green peas--sweetly bursting with flavor. The asparagus is also a great one. Warm chocolate brownie is more like fudge--pushes it past the trite versions found at so many restaurants."

  • "We always enjoy our meals at Laurenzo's. The food is outstanding and the service is fantastic! The best creamed corn I have ever had! Try the prime rib blackened."

  • "We took my mother and my visiting step sister here for dinner. We love it because of the varied menu. While I usually like their filets, this time I went with the fish special, which was absolutely fabulous . My companion's ribs were dropping off the bone. Great service from Dallas , he was great Eric is another top notch waiter there. One of our favorite places."

  • "Things were just a little different this time from past trips. $2.50 to split a 3.99 salad????? Price of a dish we have gotten several times in the past went from 12.99 to 17.99(same dish?) Service was good as usual. Maybe trying to make up for all the groupons?"

  • "This was our first visit to Laurenzo's, and we were very impressed. The service was impeccable...attentive and helpful, without being intrusive. Great recommendations for food choices... Our table had a variety of dishes, and all were excellent. Nice wine selection, and the wine we chose was very good. I personally had the shrimp & grits with lump crab meat....yummy ! We will definitely return...great place for a special occasion !"

  • "We went to Laurenzo's for Father's Day and it was perfect. Between the menu that was perfect for my husband and the sports decor, he was in heaven. The food was delicious and the service was great. It is also casual and has a relaxed feel (even though the restaurant is busy and active and a bit on the loud side)."

  • "This is my 3rd visit to Laurenzo's and as usual, the food and service were great. My only problem was a group behind us was incredibly LOUD. Ugh!"

  • "We went to celebrate our daughter's high school graduation. There were six in our party, and Ron was our waiter. The service was excellent, and the food was great. We knew the food was great, but the last time my husband and I had been here, the service was spotty. This definitely renewed my faith in Laurenzo's, and we'll definitely be back!"

  • "Given the price, I was expecting more. The waitress was nice, but very distracted. She took my order and then forgot and had to come back to ask me a second time. The calamari was ok, but nothing special. Followed with a Caesar salad which had far too much dressing. The prime rib was just right and the flavor was spot on. That being said, I don't think it was worth $50. The mac and cheese side was ok, but again it was not as good as I would expect for the price I paid. Overall, this place was good, but I don't see myself going back for the overpriced prime rib, which is supposedly the signature dish."

  • "This is a nice neighborhood place in the middle of an area known of nightclubbing. Great ambience, though a bit more of a sports bar with a lot of memorabilia than it is a fine dining establishment. The prime rib is featured, but the seafood is good, too. We had the smoked salmon, more than enough to share for an appetizer. Excellent flavor. Entrees were the sesame crusted seared tuna and prime rib. Both were excellent. Waiter was a bit indifferent, not particularly understanding we wanted to take our time, both ordering and eating. Typical Houston mentality to herd you in and out, but the typical crowd dressed in shorts did not mind. We did enjoy ourselves. Only real downside is the cost. Prime rib is $36 and the tuna was $35. "

  • "Loved being able to keep up with several sports events without the loud noise. Our college student sons wondered why we haven't brought them here before. They really enjoyed it."

  • "Casual, sloppy service and pricey if you order steak. Would work for a cheap burger, but a bill of $250 for 4 was too much to pay for what we got. Our plates didn't fit on the table, the server didn't remove empty bottles and glasses, and he brought and charged us for a side we didn't order."

  • "The wait staff here is always great. Thanks Ron. Good food and great margaritas!"
