Diner Reviews
  • "Prices range from moderate to "elegant". The prime rib and steaks are outstanding; other items always excellent also. Service is consistently good."

  • "I expected more from a pricey steakhouse. Our waitress was great, but the food wasn't very good, especially for the price. This was my first time at Laurenzo's. My husband ordered the salad, which was not very good at all. How can you go wrong with a salad? He also ordered a steak, which he compared to chili's, I ordered durango fish, which was ok. Neither dish was anything to rave about. We wanted dessert, but we passed, since all of the other dishes were just not great either. The other couple we dined with, ordered a steak as well, which was more pink than expected, and a cheese pizza. The pizza tasted like a frozen pizza, but I think Totinos is better. Save your money and go elsewhere."

  • "The night that we went the lights went out and the restaurant was closed before the scheduled time. We were only able to have appetizers. The brief time we were there though was quite enjoyable. It was our first time and we plan to return."

  • "We were there with friends when a neighborhood power outtage occured. The staff handled it well, making sure guests were ok even when they were not able to be seen. It was a bit smokey in there thanks to no vent hoods and a grill that kept on cooking! Always a great meal."

  • "We love this place because we can walk to it and the food is always good. I've eaten here many times and have never had a bad meal. Also the service here is always reliable. Having worked in the restaurant business for years, I always appreciate a place that still knows the basic rules of good service, such as always greeting a table to let them know you're their waiter even if you're busy. This past Sunday we brought a friend for brunch and for the first time we were disappointed with the kitchen because it took a long time for our food to come out. The waiter was very aware of the situation and apologized for the delay. But the food was worth waiting for!"

  • "Had a very nice meal with my wife. Good food at a fair price."

  • "We have been going to Laurenzos since it opened. While it has always been a little on the expensive side it was a nice place to go with good food and a nice atmosphere and in out neighborhood. Since opening we have watched the prices rise significantly and also the quality decline. I think we are down to going once a year now rather than once month. It is still convenient but the price vs quality is just not there."

  • "Laurenzo's had the best service I've experienced. Russell, out waiter, did a first class job in making sure our first experience here was positive. He provided samples, answered questions, offered recommendations and was attentive. Food was well prepared, fresh and with generous portions. We visited on a Thurs. to specifically avoid the normal Fri. crush of people. There was adequate free parking. There was a suitable wine list and beer selection available with dining. The only downside is that, in a way, it feels like a sporting establishment with the sporting pix, etc. on the walls. Not my wife's favorite ambiance. I recommend and would visit again."

  • "Laurenzo's is a wonderful little neighborhood gem that reminisces of the great fancy dining experiences of the past with its decor. The service is always good and you even see the owners making table visits sometimes. Laurenzo's has many regulars that are greeted by name... A true definition of a neighborhood gem. Best of all though is the prime rib. Hands down, it is the best prime rib in Houston!"

  • "This was our first time to eat at Laurenzo's and it was incredible. They have an extensive menu but we chose to stick with the prime rib and steaks that they are famous for and we where not disappointed. The atmosphere and service were outstanding."

  • "Honestly, one the best places I've been to. Our server was phenomenal and the food was just as good. Too rich for my budget to enjoy consistently but will be back next time I'm ready to splurge."

  • "I would equate this restaurant to an expensive night at Houston's."

  • "The food and service were great. We had the calamari appetizer to start, which was yummy. For dinner, I had the prime rib and my friend had the Durango topping fish. She liked my prime rib better, and I liked her fish better.. but both were good! We also tried the brownie for dessert, but that was nothing special. The service was great. When we first arrived the place was empty, but pretty crowded by the time we left. We went on a week night around 5:30 PM. The decor is kind of off for a "steak house", but still pretty neat."

  • "Everything from the food to the service to the waitress was beyond my expectations. Absolutely adore this restaurant. They even surprised my friend with a birthday dessert that 2 people could eat. I didn't have to ask. :)"

  • "Staff is always friendly and always on their game when it comes to great service. Food is excellent. Has the vibe of a sports bar with all of the sports memorabilia but not in an obnoxious way for those of us who aren't huge sports fans."

  • "This was my second visit to the restaraunt and I think it was better than the first. Our reservation was for 5:30 and we were late due to traffic but we were seated immediately upon our arrival. I think it took less than 10 for the appetizer and salad to arrive at and my husband and I were visibly surprised; he even joking about how "slow" they were that evening. Our waiter was very knowledgable about the food and came back to check on us often. The filet mignot was cooked perfectly and my husband really enjoyed his prime rib; we had nothing but good things to say about our meal. We will definely be back!"

  • "Considering the prices I expected an upscale steak restaurant and got a glorified Chili's. Crowd and atmosphere was very odd. Loud groups of people. A door on the east end of the restaurant that slammed every 3o seconds from wait staff going through it - Drove me crazy. Food was way overpriced for the quality. Even the prime rib was just so-so. Mac & cheese not good at all. Shrimp and grits had odd flavor. Wine was good. They gave my husband a brownie and ice cream for his b'day which was very nice but dry and boring and not worth the calories. Decor was old looking and again, very franchise-y. Bathrooms were unkempt and messy. Front reception was not cordial and seemed bothered. Won't be going back. ONLY redeeming quality was our waiter!"

  • "Used a discount voucher, $121 worth of food for $59 plus taxes and alcohol. We had a shared appetizer (spinach artichoke dip) 2 entree's (both had the 16 oz prime rib) and a shared dessert (Italian cream cake). Appetizer was fine, salads came out a little quick, then our entree's came out quick after that. The prime rib was well worth the coupon value, we both ordered the 16 oz cut medium rare and I swear they gave us about a 20 or 22 oz cut, it was huge but cooked perfectly. Sides were disappointing, I had the garlic mash, they had flavor but were just ok, my wife had the mac-n-cheese, no flavor and not much of a cheese sauce. Italian cream cake looked great, but lacked flavor. Big hit on the prime rib, everything else lacked a little bit."

  • "I had the beet salad and it was the best! Beets, apples, walnuts and blue cheese with grilled shrimp were a good combination Had garlic buttermilk dressing. Yum. Gumbo, not so good. Seafood gumbo with 2 crab claws did not fit the mouthwatering description on the menu. ): But, fried oyster appetizer was very good. My husband had the fried shrimp. They were delicious."

  • "The last time I dined at Laurenzo's my meal was excellent as was the service. The problem I had this time was with the many hostesses that waited to greet me (or not greet me). Three of them talking among each other when I arrived. Never looked up. Never acknowledged me. Finally when I was acknowledged, I was asked a simple "Yes?" I said "Yes, what?" The response: "What can I do for you?" My response: "I have a reservations and would like to eat?" After the meal and as I was leaving and walking past the hostess stand I was wondering if I would get a "Thanks for dining with us", "Hope you enjoyed your meal". What I did get was two women checking out something on their cellphones. No "thank you", nothing."

  • "I tried the fish with étouffée topping. It tasted like crab in brown gravy. I guess they specialize in Ribeye so I ordered wrong. The service started good but ended really slow. I will not return to this restaurant. The menu offers a big variety of food but we didn't enjoy it."

  • "We had another wonderful experience at Laurenzo's. The food is always wonderful (this time my prime rib was slightly over-cooked -- sent it back and they replaced it immediately with no questions asked or making me feel guilty for sending it back). Michael waited on us this time and he was great. Even though the restaurant is clear across town from where we live, we get there as often as possible for the great food and service."

  • "I am beginning to use this Houston favorite as my go to place for out of town visitors. (Most of my friends already know of this Washington Avenue hot spot for great Prime Rib.) If you like beef, go here. One of the ladies in our party ordered Red Fish, an off menu item. It was beautifully prepared beautifully and showed this Gulf Coast star off in all of its fresh from the water grandeur. The atmosphere is a rustic sports memorabilia collection that is just a fascinating and charming display of the Houston Sports (and some of those others, like Michael Jordan, Vince Young and Johhny Manziel). The price is not outrageous, but don't expect chain store pricing either. It is very much worth its reasonable price."

  • "We always enjoy an evening at Laurenzo's, but the only challenge is deciding what to order amongst the many outstanding choices. The server mentioned that they had brocolini as a side that night, which we chose - it was the best ever. I wish they offered a plate of sides - choose 3 or 5 to make your own meal! An excellent meal had by all. The only disappointments were the Caesar salads - they had little taste that night."

  • "We have eaten at Laurenzo's many times - with friends, family and by ourselves. We know we can always count on the dining experience to be perfect. We were celebrating our adult son's birthday - there were five of us and it was great as always! This was the first time for my 83 year old mother - she is still talking about it! We - of course - enjoyed the Prime Rib, the French Dip, fried oysters & shrimp, Queso, calamari, and of course their wonderful desserts. We will continue to be loyal diners and supporters."

  • "i have been wanting to try Laurenzos for awhile, and finally got my chance. My husband's daughter got the tuna steaks.. she said they were very good. I loved my filet mignon: tender, and cooked just right. My husband got the prime rib which he said was good. It was crowded, and I am glad we had a reservation. we were there early, but they seated us anyway which i thought was very nice. I'd go there again, but would like to sit at the bar and watch sports."

  • "Though my husband and I frequent Laurenzo's and admire many things on their menu, we nearly always end up ordering their perfect filets (charred outside, medium rare inside). An ample side of asparagus or sauteed spinach (sometimes baked sweet potato) completes the dish. Often, we have leftover steak and I bring it home to enjoy the next day...still fabulous!"

  • "We kept hearing that Laurenzo's was AMAZING so we decided to give it a try for my bday. This is not a "romantic" spot for a date night, but perfect place to take the kids. The service was "OK". They forgot to bring out my salad, they messed up our final bill, and they did not put horse radish on the French Dip plate. Minor issues but was a major hassle trying to get our orders right since it was so crowded. The food wasn't anything special either."

  • "I have been to Laurenzo's several times in the last few years, and this time was no different. The server was attentive, and the food was FANTASTIC, as usual. Laurenzo's is "famous" in Houston for their prime rib dishes, but they have many other options as well."

  • "We wanted to meet some old friends and visit over dinner on a Sat night. The noise level was a bit higher than we would have liked, but the food and cheerful ambience were very good. Our server Joy was excellent. She was attentive, but gave us time to visit. The prime rib was excellent. There was a good choice of beers and wines to complement the food. It is a little out of our way, but we will definitely be back."
