Diner Reviews
  • "We had a wonderful experience with great service! I noted that we were celebrating our wedding anniversary when I booked through Open Table. We were surprise that they acknowledged it by serving us champagne and a special delicious dessert that said Happy Anniversary! The interior is quite magnificent and very picturesque!"

  • "I have brunch here before and had a great experience but this time around we all were disappointed with the brunch buffet. We arrived at 10:45am and the entire hot dishes were empty and customers were in line for a very long time until the food arrived (eggs benedict were cold)not up to the reputation of a Fairmont Hotel and especially for the price. When we approached the service staff they acknowledge with reservations and not efficiency."

  • "For a $50 Filet, I was hoping it would taste better than something you got from Outback steakhouse. The music and setting were awesome. Very overpriced though."

  • " Overall, we enjoyed the dinner. Ambience and food are good. Service is a little bit slow. They surprise us with dessert treat to celebrate our anniversary"

  • "We were not seated promptly even though they were not busy. However, the service was very good once we were seated. We had a Travelzoo deal which was worth what we spent. The Travelzoo selection of food and wine was very good. The food was good. We had the clam appetizer which was very good and the onions soup and ceasar salad were also very good. The boullebase and the salmon were good. Don't know if I would return without a deal, however."

  • "Steak rare with sunny side up eggs was my order. Steak well done with overcooked eggs is what I got when it finally came. Fresh orange juice tasted watered down. My wife's meal was just as bad and the confusing tab, which also had 18% tip prewritten, needed correction, which also took a while. I don't expect bargains on Nob Hill but this was a rip off and very disappointing for a Fairmont Hotel."

  • "The food was very good. I often find most seafoods are overdone but not here. The service is good but not exceptional. On the down side the menu choice is a bit limited. If we were to come back I could only find one that I would order."

  • "I brought my mom and her two friends for lunch to celebrate my mother's 98th bday. The food was very good...a nice variety of choices for lunch. The service was fabulous and made this birthday lunch very special."

  • "The bruschetta and french onion soup were delicious. The french onion was a little rich with the cheese, but that is expected. The risotto was a little bland. My boyfriend got the cioppino and it was amazing."

  • "We had delicious summer drinks at the bar and then a delicious, elegant tea service. The food was yummy and the servers were attentive without being intrusive. A wonderful experience."

  • "Absolutely wonderful service. Will come back again"

  • "Had afternoon tea. Had hoped for something special given the local. Tea was served in small metal teapots; had to request extra sandwich serving although they did provide one extra of each option. We were a party of 3. Price was $39 and I expected more elegance. Hot water was added to existing tea leaves for 2nd & 3rd teapot refill making it very weak. Most disappointing. Scones were good. Again only 2 a piece, and barely mouthful size. Desserts were ok."

  • "Although the food was very good, the selections available did not reflect the selections on the online menu that was available on the LC web site."

  • "I expected a good brunch and to my dismay. The service is poor , inattentive waiter."

  • "The food was pretty bad when you had to pay $60.00 per person in such high end hotel. The services was bad. "

  • "Advised had reservation, host did not verify. Restaurant was not crowded. Seated us next to column. Asked to be moved. Then seated us next to stairway. Wife accepted seating location, I advised wife I was not happy with location, gave into wife. Host then seated later guests in center of restaurant or better seats. Felt slighted with seating location."

  • "My husband and I enjoyed a delicious brunch (Crab Benny and Mission Tacos) to start a day of anniversary festivities. We love the "old San Francisco" feel of the Fairmont and often bring visiting friends to the Tonga Room. We had never eaten at the Laurel Court but were quite pleasantly surprised. Service was solid but not amazing. Food was outstanding. Ambience was lovely. The buffet looked very good too."

  • "Afternoon tea at the Fairmont Hotel is a lovely tradition; however, the bill for one full tea came to $50! This is expensive even for San Francisco. The surprise was a 15% "House" charge tacked on to the price in addition to a billed gratuity. The tea sandwiches, scones and pastries were very good, but instead of china tea pots and decorated plates befitting the gorgeous dining room, I was disappointed that they now use stainless tea pots and plain white plates."

  • "This was the second time we had dinner at The Laurel Court at the San Francisco Fairmont in the last four months.. Both times were for very special occasions and we enjoyed the ambience of the Laurel Court. This Monday night (after Easter) seemed to be a slow night. Our waiter was excellent and very personable and took special care of us. The French Onion soup was the best and the Manila camps were tasty. Entree was the New York Steak and it was cooked properly."

  • "Not a complaint....just not my style....old time elegance is OK, but I prefer the more updated "old" like the Stanford Court across the street."

  • "Easter Sunday breakfast was nicely done. Not the biggest buffet around, but priced fairly (for San Francisco's Nob Hill) and good food. Our waiter was attentive without being intrusive. We've eaten at Laurel Court before and when we are in "the city" overnight it is a great place for breakfast."

  • "Excellent service and very nice ambiance. Our server was very nice and courteous"

  • "I prefer the traditional thin sliced bread versus the thick cut white bread served open faced."

  • "We went for our anniversary and enjoyed it very much. Everyone was accommodating to us and we had great service. We would go again. Very elegant, and great for special occasions."

  • "My recent experience at the Fairmont was very disappointing. The entree that we chose was the Halibut. The Halibut was very dry but the bed of kale that it was served on was so over seasoned that my sister and I both choked on it. The service was very slow and the restaurant was not busy. We would not return based on this experience."

  • "Travel Zoo coupon offer was 4 entrees, two appetizers, etc and upon arrival from Sacramento in commute traffic was advised we must order from a "Special" menu. Wrong PR for either Company. Credit to the management that wet were allowed to order the delectable crab cakes tho' not on "Travel Zoo" menu provided upon arrival. Disappointment the Halibut was quite dry and the intended Lamb entree that prompted the trip NOT on the previously undisclosed "special Travel Zoo menu". I cannot recommend based on my limited and unfortunate experience, but certainly do appreciate the provision of the superb Crab Cakes and will state as much to anyone who should ask. For all I know, Travel Zoo may be at fault for the clear misrepresentation. "

  • "Food was great. Our waitress was very knowledgable and patient. Only complaint would be the portion of the appetizer. Everything else was right on."

  • "The food was delicious--beautifully presented, fresh and tasty. The atmosphere was lovely surrounded with piano music and artistic space. The waiters and waitresses were attentive and friendly. The overall ambiance at the Fairmont was spectacular. We'll be back again for the food and atmosphere and overall wonderful experience at the Fairmont!"

  • "The best part of the place is the friendly and talented guy who plays the piano. He definitely sets the restaurant apart from others in the city. The food was good, but the preparation was a bit spotty. I applaud the waitstaff for working hard to fix the problems, but look forward to a problem free meal next time."

  • "Decided to try the afternoon tea at the Fairmont hotel so we made a reservation for 3 at 1:45pm. When we arrived it was hard to find the garage but we did and the valet told us Laurel Court would validate for 2 hours so we didn't have to pay for parking. Laurel Court was surprisingly not how I thought it would look like. There weren't too many people so reservation wouldn't be necessary. Waiter was extremely nice and explained the teas. The food was really delicious and I would come back here"

  • "Haven't been to the Fairmont for years. Lovely to return. Both of us had a drink in the bar which was very enjoyable. Dinner was very good, nice menu and selction for Travelzoo customers. I would go back."

  • "Discreet spot for nice lunch for two, private conversation possible since tables are not too close to each other and one can speak at a normal tone and still hear each other. Price is quite reasonable for the quality."
    Dined on 3/28/2014
  • "18% gratuity automatically added to bill. I was there with a TravelZoo voucher which I'm sure is the reason for the automatic but would prefer the tip to be at my discretion. The tip is itemized on receipt but gratuity line is left blank which I think is misleading."

  • "The service was extraordinary. No wonder everybody wants get married at the Fairmont or the Plaza"

  • "We had a deal on Living Social. Dining here is a lovely experience. Originally I thought there would be a view since the hotel is on the top of Nob Hill, but the restaurant is actually just off the lobby. Still lovely. Would probably not go again without a "deal" however. The cost with the "deal" was over $100 for two. This was for a shared appetizer, two soups or salads, two entries and parking. Dessert and coffee not included. @ithout the deal would have been over $200."

  • "We waited for over an hour to get our dinner after ordering. Other people came in, we're seated, ordered their dinner, we're served, finished dinner, paid their their bill and left while we waited for our dinner to be served. We asked twice why it was taking so long with no answer."

  • "I paid $89.00 for two people to dine and includes two glasses of wine up to $17.00 per person. The food, and service was good. We each receive a very small portion of the wine (per glass). I guess that's the $17 limit per glass? When the bill came we were charged for the Tax on the food which I expect based on the Travelzoo information. Tax was based on the regular amount which was $140.00 plus the server already included the 20 percent tip, based on the $140.00 regular food price. I normally give 20 percent tip anyway but was quite surprise that the server immediately put the amount on the bill. Overall, by taking advantage of the Voucher offered by Travelzoo, we saved some money on the 20% tip and tax."
