Diner Reviews
  • "I will say that Lana has great food and the server was very kind. She identified herself as the manager so I am sure she was well trained. I will allow that this was a meeting for a first date. The restaurant is quaint and smallish. I will say that the noise level was too loud. (I like how OpenTable calls this "Energetic.") We had to lean across the table and repeat ourselves just to be heard. I am dismayed that this seems to be the trend in so many restaurants. There are so many noise absorbing/canceling devices such as tapestries, or even attractive fabric ceiling panels, that cut down 30% of the noise. Please understand that we did enjoy the food and service but our ability to enjoy each other's conversation was limited."

  • "With all the wonderful dining options in Charleston, it is at times difficult to make a choice. We were pleasantly surprised by Lana Restaurant. From the time we arrived until we left we were treated like old friends. Our server was very friendly and efficient. Each course choice was delicious as was the wine that was recommended by our server. We noted in some previous reviews that there was an issue with parking and the neighborhood, we found these concerns to be unfounded."

  • "We were recommended to go here by someone we met on vacation who lives in Charleston. We had an excellent dinner. There was a good variety of items on the menu and the portions were generous. My husband and I both had duck as our entree and it was probably the best I have ever tasted. Our waitress was very efficient and fun. I would highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "Good food, small portiobs, hard to hear others because of high noise level"

  • "Just went there with my family visiting Charleston. It's a great spot with delicious food and a really nice atmosphere."

  • "Easy to book reservation, friendly staff, very good food! A nice place to dine."

  • "Looking for a nice, intimate spot that's outside Charleston's Historic District? This is the place. Take advantage of the Happy Hour before seating. The bartender was very pleasant and set the mood for the evening. The service was top notch and the meal was well presented. My only complaint was the entree was a bit too salty (beef ribs). Great neighborhood spot that was welcoming. There was something about the restaurant's layout that was inviting and comfortable."

  • "Based on very nice interior and menu, Lana restaurant seems like it should be located in a prime Charleston location but it is in an older not so thriving neighborhood. Worth going there. Parking might be a bit tricky. Study the map to deal with one way streets to get to Lana. There was a problem with one main dish. Server Lindsay and then manager Benjamin did everything possible and resolved the problem in exemplary fashion."

  • "Based my reservations on reviews and all the good ones were correct-what a great find! GREAT food - Service - GREAT! Only minor negative comment - Online, they note a 'tapas' menu from 5-7. Well this menu is only available at the bar, which is in the same room as the dining room-you can see the bar from the dining tables. I could have stood up, walked 6 feet and would have been in the bar area. I'm guessing the same kitchen for both-the place isn't that big! We really wanted to try one of the items on the tapas menu, but it 'was only available at the bar.' Really makes no sense. Highly recommend the lemon tart - I was still talking about it 2 days later."

  • "The food was well prepared and tasty. The service was slow and inattentive."

  • "Our meal was good but we were there 2-1/2 hours. The service from the kitchen was really slow, although the waiter was attentive. We had called and asked for a booth and were told "absolutely". However we were told when we arrived that we couldn't have a booth. We pointed out that there was one empty and we were told it was reserved for someone else. It remained empty long after we were seated and eventually a same size party as ours were seated there. It made us feel " unimportant", and we go there every couple of months."

  • "This is a wonderful restaurant located on the corner in an older Charleston neighborhood. As is normal with older structures, the acrostics aren't that good so there is some noise especially since there's a great bar area in the same room. However, the food and service make a little noise secondary. Our waiter Kelly was one of the best we've had anywhere. The food was beautifully prepared and presented and both our dishes were perfect. It is more expensive than some area restaurants but well worth the price. This is one Charleston restaurant diners shouldn't miss."

  • "II visited Charleston for a short visit. I made the reservation on line and the restaurant called to confirm earlier in the day. When we arrived, the table was ready and we were immediatly seated. The menu is diverse, including many selections. The food was promptly serve, and it was delicious. Our server was very attentive and helpful in making some of our dining choices. The only issue that I had - which is not a big issue, is that there is no parking - we had to find parking on the street. Apparently this is not unusual for Charleston"

  • "This place has been a fav for years every since my friends and I found it during restaurant week. It has had consistently good food and good service. I recommend people to visit it and I take friends there all the time. Great atmosphere, pretty space and the food as always been delish!"

  • "If not for the noise level which was extremely loud, the restaurant is perfect. Food delicious, service above and beyond."

  • "Leave all the fussy fine dining and have a Mediterranean food experience you'll love. Chef Jon's gnocchi are some of the best I've ever had."

  • "We were in Charleston for only two evenings and had heard about Lana's. Stephanie, our wait-staff, was wonderful in her recommendations and the food did not disappoint. Gary's pate portion was very generous, and my pear and arugula salad delicious. I was happy about the quality of ingredients and preparation were outstanding. The location of the restaurant was away from Meeting Street which enhanced the intimacy of the experience. I recommend it highly."

  • "This was the most simply prepared and delicious fish dinner we had in Charleston. Some nice vegetarian options plus the usual southern dishes that were also delicious and well prepared. The homemade gnocchi was excellent. A really nice meal."

  • "From the moment that I entered the restaurant I felt very welcomed. I was given the option of where to sit; table, booth or chef's table. I chose the chef's table which gave me a view of the kitchen and able to watch the chef prepare. Kaitlin was my server and also the bartender. I began with a Marker's Mark Manhattan up and it was the most delicious Manhattan I have ever had. The best part of it was that a fresh, pitted cherry was used as opposed to a jarred marschino cherry! I would highly recommend the onion soup and the poached pear salad. The pork marsala over risotto was good, but not as good as the rest. A lemon tart for dessert. As a single female, I never fel out of place and the service was fabulous."

  • "We arrive and were greeted pleasantly and seated immediately. Our server. Paul, was friendly and very clearly like and and understood the menu. Food terrific, service terrific."

  • "Had great food and waiter. The hostess was not the most welcoming and accommodating person. This place is about the food and not the location. Location was in a more rundown area of Charleston and parking was an issue. Would go again for the food!"

  • "Food is always good here...warm, comfortable atmosphere and professional servers...a good place to come back to over and over"

  • "What a great dinner! Lana is all we expected and more. The service was top notch and the food was memorable. The Italian wedding soup was bursting with flavor and beef stock was a wonderful touch to enhancing flavors. The pear salad was seasoned to perfection. Pork scallopini was so tender and delicious over perfect risssoto and mushroom flavors abounding. Pasta bolognaise was so rich in flavor and abundant in portion there was plenty for 2 more meals! Dessert was wonderful with a trio of fresh sobet, pineapple, blueberry and raspberry wer our choices and chocolate cake (flourless) with freshe cappacunno gelato was so good. Can't wait to return!"

  • "We ordered the mussels, steak, mushroom gnocchi, and sampler gelato along with beverages and everything was so amazing! The mussels were my absolutely favorite! Before these I thought Fat Hen had hands down the best but they've definitely been beaten! Oh and their olive oil is incredible! Highly recommend Lana!"

  • "The food here is always tasty and the flavors pronounced. The tuscan bread salad was excellent and the shrimp onboard were fresh and perfectly cooked."

  • "I have been at Lana's before and was pleased. This time I was very unhappy with the food. It just wasn't very good. Everything else was fine and service was great---but since I come to a restaurant to eat, we won't be back."

  • "Everything was outstanding. Great appetizers, salad, soup, wine, main courses, and yes, frites! I'm on the run now, so can't do a complete rundown of what we had. But, suffice it to say that if you love great food (with many choices), friendly and attentive service, in cool setting. Lana's is the place."

  • "not excellent or fabulous. But very good. We (two people) ate dinner, each with a glass of wine, plus one other drink, split one dessert, and include a tip for about 110 dollars. Seemed like a small place, but it was not loud and conversation was easy. The food was also not excellent but quite good. I ordered one mixed drink that sounded good but tasted like warm water with foam on top. I sent it back and they took it off the bill."

  • "Had a great time at Lana. Good was terrific and out waiter was great the whole time. My only complaint was that the seating was very tight to where you were basically sitting with the people beside you and it was hard to get in and out of the table. Fortunately the couple sitting beside us were very nice and we had some great conversation. Although this worked out for us I could see how it would be a problem for others."

  • "While Lana is a great spot for an intimate dinner, it was also perfect for our small group of four ladies to catch up and enjoy good food and wine. Everyone ordered something different and each dish was delicious. I especially enjoyed the scallops small plate - lots of flavor. The French Gimlet specialty cocktail was also very tasty."

  • "You have to order the duck! It was delicious! It was a classic flavor cooked right. The service was excellent. We went for dinner on a Saturday @ 6 pm. There were not a lot of people @ that hour. In about 30 min the place got full. I guess going a bit earlier was a good idea."

  • "We arrived and the hostess tried to seat us by the front window because the restaurant was virtually empty. It was a cold and drafty spot and I asked for another table. Very few customers should have equated to quick and attentive service, this was not the case, drinks took too long and we were shuffled back and forth between two waiters. The soups were both fantastic (spicy tomato seafood and onion bacon) as were the cocktails. My husband was quite pleased with his steak but I was extremely disappointing with my Gnoochi. Soggy, watery disappointment. We did have dessert because this was a special occasion and we were enjoying ourselves, great atmosphere. Would be fantastic to sit at the bar and listen to live jazz if they had it!"

  • "We had a great time. Unfortunately, it was a slower night, so we didn't get to see the restaurant in action if you will. But food and service were great. We both did 3 courses and enjoyed all three. We will certainly be going back."

  • "Charleston has no shortage of highly promoted memorable restaurants. What set Lana apart for me was its neighborhood feel. The restaurant was busy, but not packed, and the menu offered an abundance of delicious offerings. Our server took great care of us and provided a knowledgeable review of specials and the choices we were considering. Lana is definitely on my short list of places to dine the next time I visit town."
