  • Private Party Facilities: L’Abattoir’s private dining space consists of a total of 1200 square feet of seating space, and may be
    divided roughly in half with a noise reducing barrier. You may wish to rent one room or both rooms
    combined, depending on the size and style of your event. Either room comfortably accommodates up
    to 24 seated guests, while the combined space accommodates up to 50 seated guests or a standing
    reception of up to 100 guests.
    Our primary goal is to provide our guest with genuine hospitality in a well-equipped setting so they
    can focus on enjoying their event. Our private rooms feature comfortable seating, built-in audio visual
    and coat check.

A word from L'Abattoir Restaurant
L'Abattoir is located in the center of Gastown between historic Gaoler's Mews and Blood Alley. The restaurant was built in the 19th century and is the site of Vancouver's first jail. Originally buttressed to the city's main butchery and meat packing district, the name L'Abattoir pays homage to the neighbourhood's colourful past.
Set in a refurbished brick and beam building that combines classic French tile work with industrial fixtures, natural wood, and glass and steel finishes, the restaurant offers a bar and lounge setting, elevated dining room and plush, sun soaked atrium.
Chef Lee Cooper and General Manager Paul Grunberg are dedicated to highlighting the finer points of eating and drinking in L'Abattoir's informed but informal setting. French influenced West Coast fare is paired with Sommelier Robert Herman's eclectic wine program and Head Barman Shaun Layton's innovative cocktail list to offer a truly unique dining experience.

  • "We were in the club at West Oak when I asked 2 locals where to dine in Vancouver. They both recommended L'Abattoir, All I can tell you, it's is a real find. I live in NYC, we have great restaurants.... L'Abattoir would stand up to NYC's best. The food was terrific, everything we ordered. The grilled Octopus appetizer was a standout. I tried one of the bartenders specials, I think it was the Avocado Gimlet?...it looked strange but was very tasty. Service was top notch, the restaurant was a man down, you'd never know it, we were served by the Sommelier and the owner Paul."

Not a lot of choice on the menu although what is on it is sophisticated and well prepared anbd ver, extremely small portions, and the food arrived cold. Jules is a much better choice for french food in the neoghbourhood."

I had the opportunity to share my meal with my counterpart and we both agreed that this was one of the best restaurants that we've ate at. The Terrine of duck foie gras is a definite must try as well!"

  • "We visited this beautiful restaurant for the first time last week and we had mixed impressions. First of all we were slightly cold dining in the veranda at the back, so not really comfortable. Food was ok, we had an asparagus salad with truffle, but we were not able to smell or taste the truffles...if you use summer truffles they are pretty mild and not very aromatic, that's why there cheap. The potatoes in salad were too salted and the chestnut parfait was almost perfect but too much spice in it that we couldn't taste the chestnuts. Was it cardamom? Foss was very well presented and it seems to us that they want to do too much, and forgot the principle, the taste."

We showed up to find that our table was set in a corner right next to the emergency exit and literally inches away from the couple next to us. Terrible experience. Service was super rushed bc they want to turn tables around quick. Food was good but would never recommend this place. Not to my worst enemy."

  • "Between my husband and me we sampled 5 items from the dinner menu. The first taste of each dish elicited the "close your eyes and give a little moan of delight" response. The following mouthfuls of each dish was equally wonderful. Our 6th item was a dessert that was lovely to look at and, like the savouries, was delicious, well balanced and imaginative in texture and tastes! Very professional wait staff."

  • "Very good service, very good food, but like so many eateries these days, far too noisy. The noise sort of spoils things a bit. But then a couple of the tables near us were having a wonderful time yelling at each other and laughing madly (I choose that word carefully!) so I guess quite a lot of people don't mind the noise and in fact join in. Each to his/her own, eh?"

It was fantastic and we had a great time - they even remembered his birthday, which was done very quietly with a birthday candle on our dessert. The staff were friendly, kind and attentive. We are already planning to come back with our parents when they visit this summer. Beautiful decor!"

  • "Went here with a group of girlfriends after hearing great reviews. The service was excellent, but the food itself was just not that great. I ended up spitting out half of my lamb that was undercooked and fatty, and the girls that got the halibut were also not impressed. Only good meal was the steak diane. They had a great cocktail list though, but the wine we ordered was one price on the menu and then more on our bill... Don't know how that makes any sense, they should probably decide on what they want to charge"

  • "Maybe I'm jaded but I expect most fine dining places in this city to be good without really being outstanding. L'Abattoir was a pleasant surprise. Ignore the creepy name (slaughterhouse) and enjoy the well prepared and beautifully presented dishes. My only criticism of the food was that the foie gras terrine seemed to be lacking in foie; could use more in the mix. Overall it was still a feast for the senses, as was everything we ordered. The only drawback to this restaurant is its small space, so the tables are very close together and you're basically having dinner with your neighbours. This can be minimized by to booking an end table and either going very early or late in the evening in the hopes that the table beside you will be empty."

From the ambience, to the spectacular food and attentive (but not overbearing) service it was a hit all around! We will be back, and likely will bring guests from out-of-town to experience this gem in Gastown. Lastly, I loved that the menu was on the smaller side, each dish obviously chosen to reflect the freshest seasonal food available. Thanks for a terrific meal."

  • "We liked the food but way too much salt on most of the dishes. The bread they start you out with is OK but too salty. What ever happened to serving plain bread with butter or oil? The ling cod with sesame crust again way too salty. They should call it salt crust. My partner couldn't finish it. My steak Dianne was perfection excellent a little heavy on the salt. I don't get why they would add so much salt when for those who want heavy salt can easily add more themselves."

  • "The food actually ranged from good to excellent, but after my 2nd bite of steak I pulled a long, tangled hair out of my mouth. I was holding it, in shock when the waiter came by asking how it was. I held up the hair. He said it didn't look like anybody's there. It didn't look like mine or my dates either. He offered to replace the steak. We agreed. When the bill came there was nothing comped. I get it. People could go planting hairs, but I didn't and this has left a very bad taste in my mouth. The unapologetic defensiveness of the waiter was not cool. Then to top it off, my umbrella was not returned despite being taken by coat check. Given the price point of L'Abbatoire the quality of our experience there was very much less than desirable."

  • "Most things about our trip to L'Abbatoir were perfect. However, the lamb loin we ordered was seriously underwhelming. It was almost shocking in comparison to every other dish we inhaled in minutes. The veal tartare was fantastic, the pork belly was fantastic, the steak diane was UNBELIEVABLE, the lamb loin was... meh. Service was great, cocktails were great, and the anchovy-parmesan bread twists were devine."

  • "The restaurant is fabulous, and while we all expect a restaurant to mark-up wine to an exceptional level, to have the price point start at about $88 a bottle was silly. What was evident before we even looked at a wine menu was that our row of 10 - 12 tables, at the back of the restaurant, only 2 tables had a bottle of wine, even though all were very clearly "date night" couples. Of the 8 tables without wine, 100% had a lower price point beer or cocktail. I appreciate wine, and certainly can appreciate a great wine from a good wine. But prices starting at $88 are silly."

  • "I went to L'Abottoire for dinner with a couple girfriends and the experience was mediocre. The drink and wine menu was great and there was a lot to choose from. The service was great our waiter, although awkward at times was attentive. I ordered the Pacific Sole and it was beautifully plated but was lackluster in taste. There were fish bones in almost every bite and I was constantly trying not to swallow them. My girlfriend tried the lamb which was great and perfectly cooked, and we got the warm potato salad which was also meh. Overall a good place.. Just not amazing!!"

  • "We arrived 15 mins earlier than our reservation, but was seated right away. The server was very attentive but not overbearing, which is always nice. We had their homemade breads and they were outstanding. The bacon brioche bread was warm and nothing like we've ever had. A great start to a great meal. Started with the sweetbreads, which were cooked to perfection with a nice touch of picked onion for some acid. My husband had the steak diane and the steak was nice and tender paired with a nice pinot noir (he had a scotch with the breads and starter). I had the lamb wrapped in bacon with gnocchi paired with syrah. For dessert we had their signature earl grey creme de pot which really was a nice light dessert to finish off such a heavy meal."

  • "The first course was very good. I had the winter vegetables and my sister the scallops. But the main course was terible! We both had the lamp. It was too rare and oily. We ended up sending it back to have it warmed up. We noticed at two other tables that people did not finish theit meat either."
