Experience the culinary richness of Peru at La Costanera, a modern Peruvian fusion restaurant opened its doors October 2, 2009. The scenic California coast in Montara, overlooks the Pacific, just a short, beautiful drive from San Francisco (21 miles). The space is grand, with floor to ceiling windows, three stories, and 10,000 square feet of oceanfront space, beach views and sea breeze every dinner is garanteed an ocean view.

We also offer a full bar, domestic and imported Peruvian beers and a hand selected wine list. Come try our Pisco Sour – a classic Peruvian cocktail – and experience all that La Costanera has to offer...

  • "Very high quality food, lovely views. Wonderful if it is nice and you can eat outdoors. Upstairs is supposed to be nicer but the tables don't face the ocean so I like the outside best. Scallops and lamb are very, very good with a unique rub and flavor. The Peruvian curry has complex flavors but could be a little spicier and needed a spoon to eat the rest of the sauce. The pisco sour had which I asked not to be sweet tasted perfect but had too much foam so seemed like it was small for the price."

  • "I really love this restaurant. The food is superb, every dish seasoned uniquely but always tastefully. I have never been disappointed. the service the three time I have been here is great in that the servers are attentive, helpful, and joyful. The only challenge for me is that it is busy and noisy. That is not usually my style so I have learned to come on the early side before the crowds hit. Too bad because I'd love to catch the sunset from the fantastic view, but so be it. better no sunset and a little more quiet."

  • "The food is delightful! Most things on the menu are to die for, the reason I gave it three stars is because how we were treated by the hostess. We were late for our reservation by 10 mins and called in to inform about the delay, we were told not to worry as they had a nice table for my wife and I, next to the scenic views. When we arrived there, they were preparing our table and some else walks in with a later reservation and they gave them our table. In a nutshell, the hostess(s) need to be trained, we did voice our disappointment with Al and he moved us to another table when it became available."

  • "A few of us Alpha Phi sisters had a reunion weekend and went here for the view and great view on our last night. Costanera never disapoints, from the friendly and fun bar tenders to great food choices and of course the wonderful view! This was the second time to La Costanera and both times I have seen sealife! The first time a whale and this time a bunch of cute dolphins jumping and wrestling in the water. It was a perfect ending to the weekend with my girlfriends whom have never been to the SF Bay area before. Thanks for a great time!!"

  • "I took my husband here for his birthday dinner. We were seated with a beautiful view of the ocean. Our server was helpful and friendly and made an excellent wine recommendation. The food was all presented beautifully and I especially liked the crusted prawns small plate. The table next to us ordered the seared scallops and they looked delicious too. Everything we ordered was good. I had the lobster paella which was not served in an individual pan as in most Spanish restaurants so that was a little disappointing since I love those crispy edges in a paella pan but the flavors were good and the dish was plentiful. We would go again and I would like to try some other items on the menu."

  • "We have been to this place and enjoyed food and drinks in a great ambience. This time around the experience was chaotic. Many waiters running around with no plan. Our table had pike of dishes that never got bussed. My daughter's dish came after everyone else had eaten. The food was ok, not es it had been. Too many tables are stuffed into the dining room, making the experience much less pleasant."

  • "All in all, you can't beat the view! But on top of that, the food was delicious, great spice combinations - and our waiter was on top of it all! We had a great evening - but we did get there early (5:00) - it fills up fast - so definitely make reservations."

  • "Loved this restaurant. Peruvian food menu The sauce on the sea bass was a little hotter than I like but the fish and crunchy veggies were great. The churros for dessert were the best ever with chocolate filling and caramel dipping sauce. Very attentive service. Just wish mother nature had cooperated so we could see the sunset over the ocean but she gave us fog. Parking can be difficult since this is a very popular place but worth the trip."

  • "Great presentation of food. A little too spicy for me but it was my husbands birthday and he loved it. Will definitely be returning. The dressing on Caesar salad could be toned down a bit as far as spices go. Small plates were my favorite except for the yellow sauce. My husband had the sea bass and it was delicious. Great drinks!! Peruvian Brandy my favorite."

  • "We really enjoyed the small plate selection we had. Service was good even through there were four large groups there that evening. The only complaint I had was that the steel chair I was sitting on got rather uncomfortable after awhile so we skipped having coffee or a dessert."

  • "Very fresh seafood set in Peruvian flavors are available with a great view of the Pacific. An inviting space, great cocktails and delicious food combine to make this an almost perfect place. Service was spotty, however, and disappointing."

  • "Had dinner here as a late Father's Day meal. Service was great and ambience was really nice - so different from the Charthouse which was originally there. As other reviewers have mentioned, the noise is really loud. It's hard to have a conversation in a normal toned voice. My mom ordered the adobo which was a bit salty. Otherwise, my dad enjoyed his Cebiche Mixto and Seafood Paella. I had the Peruvian "fried rice" which was delish. Prices aren't that bad. Parking is awful. We had reservations at 6pm and got there around 5:40pm. Both parking lots (both small) were already full and the 3rd lot had 1 parking space which we took."

  • "I was at a loss finding decent restaurants in this area -- such beautiful surroundings but quality dining options seem sparse. I happened to find La Costanera and it is on par with the best restaurants in SF. Amazing service, food and absolutely stunning ocean views."

  • "Everything about this place is perfect. The menu, the presentation, the service, the cocktails, the flavors of everything.....wow! And the view and it is just silly over the top amazing. I love this place."

  • "We loved the food and the view. No matter where you sit in the restaurant you will have a view of the ocean. Go at sunset and you will be rewarded with an ever changing scenery. We went there to celebrate our anniversary and it was the perfect spot. Even if the setting hadn't been so perfect, I would go back just for the food, especially the Cebiche Chino. Each little dish was beautifully arranged and had its unique exquisite flavors. The only disappointment was that they didn't deliver on the two free glasses of wine we were promised when they found out why we were there. We noticed it after we had already paid! They offered us to go downstairs and have a couple drinks, but given that we had to drive home it was a bit too late."

  • "After eating at La Costonera several times, I was very disappointed during my latest experience. The food was terrible and the service atrocious. I'll never go back. What a shame"

  • "Celebrated Fathers Day here. Dad loved the steak stir fry and the tuna causa. We loved the yucca balls and the pulled pork. Pisco sours all around, tasty! Did not like the mushrooms, which had a sauce that tasted like ketchup and mustard mixed together. The view is spectacular. It is a bit noisy, and the miss-matched chairs, which seem to come from office surplus, can be a bit uncomfortable. Attire ranged form a man in full Scottish kilt regalia to gray sweatshirts. This is a great place to have a drink and order some small plates, which is what we will do went we next return."

  • "This was our second time here and the food was outstanding once again. Our waitress was great very attentive. The view is incredible of the ocean and the sunset, the first time we were there we saw a pod of whales. The only down side I would say is the noise level, I am a bit sensitive to noise and there was a wedding party on the lower level which was pretty loud. Over all exceptional food, view, and atmosphere!!!"

  • "Scrumptious high-end Peruvian Cuisine in a chic yet casual beach atmosphere. Great for dates up top with a sunset view, or down below rolling in from the beach scene and looking for a cocktail, beer & tapas. Is at the old Chart House location just a bit north of Half Moon Bay, so basically the same layout with minor aesthetic changes but completely different menu & vibe. Fun wait staff and friendly owner / manager - no attitude at all - very welcoming. Indulge on the tapas side and top it off by splitting a entrée. Great steak & seafood tapas. More than enough for a meal. Espresso strong & deserts rich. Fresh mini milk chocolate filled churros will knock you into a diabetic coma. Great stuff."

  • "that sums it up....probably worth the noise, but acoustics are something that can be fixed, and a restaurant this good should do it....the sound level is truly abominable.....lean-across-the-table-to-talk abominable....."

  • "Loved the authentic small plates. Our waiter was excellent and beautiful sunset view. Noise level was a bit high."

  • "If you aren't in to deafening noise, go early (open at 5:00) and call ahead to find out if there are any group events in the bar (on our previous visit there was a wedding reception in the bar. The noise was unbearable). But you MUST go for the food. Interesting and delicious. Soup is good enough to be dessert. Likewise the potato gratin -- next time we might make a meal of just the soup and several orders of the potatoes! The Lobster Paella was very spicy and good, but the spice did mask the lobster flavor, and there could have been a little more lobster for the $28 price."

  • "The Caesar salad was two leaves of Romaine, one olive and two croutons and cost $13. The rest of the food was very good and big enough servings. $40 for the Argentinian chardonnay is pretty steep. We think it's not as good quite as Costco's Chardonnay which costs $6.99. Service was great and ambiance very nice. The 13 year old with us bolted straight across the beach for the edge of the ocean after dinner."

  • "The food experience was great...and our waitress Yvonne made great suggestions. However, just before I received my entre, the waiter serving the table behind us dropped a full glass of water on my back. It was just water...and an accident...however...I did sit in a wet dress for the duration of my dinner. The manager (who saw the whole thing!) never came to appologize and when we got the bill... I didn't even get a free drink! Our waitress did finally change the bill and gave me a free drink but I felt as if the money had to come out of her paycheck based on her reaction to my comment. Although...it was absolutely not her fault. Yvonne's service was a 5 star but I had to rate lower based on management's lack of involvement."

  • "My mother requested a view table. It was her birthday and they seated us right by the rail with a fantastic view. Instead of a loud birthday greeting, she received a wonderful printed note card from the La Costanera staff. Much Thanks!"

  • "Been wanting to visit since they opened. Drinks and food were not bad but not worth the price. I've had much better Peruvian food with a smaller price tag. I don't mind paying either when the quality of the food/restaurant warrants it. The ceviche and salads were great but the small plates (shrimp curry, scallops, tequenos, lamb chops) were a bit disappointing. Didn't try any of the large entrees. The views of Montara Beach are nice though."

  • "I recently discovered their sister restaurant in the City - Piqueo's and absolutely loved it, so time to go back and revisit La Costanera in Montara where we last had dinner about 2 years ago. Well I must say it will be hard to choose the time I am in the mood for Peruvian tapa's, they are both excellent foodwise, of course La Costanera has the awesome ocean views, but Piqueo's has that small neighborhood gem atmosphere. Unfortunately even though we requested a window seat, they could not oblige (we arrived earlier then our res time), as we were entertaining European guests that would have been an extra nice touch. Definitely will be back"

  • "I visited La Costanera a few months ago and loved everything about it. This time, the food was disappointing. The Cebiche Pescado didn't absorb much of the flavor from the sauce, so the fish was fairly bland, although the sweet potato served with the dish was delicious. The chicken empanada was ok, but not great. The Scallops Carlitos were AMAZING, but the chicken paella just didn't have much flavor at all. For drinks, I'd recommend the chicarita. The view was amazing, and the waiter was very helpful, but I was not as impressed with the food as the first time I visited. "

  • "We had reserved well ahead for a special family occasion. Our table was not ready at the appointed time, and we had to wait 20 minutes. For our group of 6 they then attached a very unstable small table to a table for 4. The instability immediately led to a full glass of wine spilling all over both tables. Some dishes were quite good, but a couple were to our taste disappointing."
