A word from La Casa del Caballo
La Casa del Caballo is a new and exciting fine dining Mexican style steakhouse in the heart of the Montrose District. We specialize in prime and Certified Angus beef prepared in an authentic Saltillo Mexico style. Our main focus is a distinct and personalized top of the line service. We also offer other delectable dishes such as Coctel de Camaron made with colossal Wild Caught Shrimp from Mexico in a spicy hot authentic Mexican style cocktail sauce. We round out our menu with Lamb T-Bone, Veal Chop, chicken and a variety of seafood.

Don't forget to visit our cozy lounge on the second floor where we offer private dining for your special events. Don't forget you can request our Captain's Table located in the center of the spiral staircase lines with the Artisan Hand Cut "Flaming" tile. We offer a well stocked Leather covered bar and a reasonably priced wine list for your selection. The valet parking is complimentary, so come out and be taken care of at La Casa del Caballo.

  • "Had their "Eye of Ribeye" & Enchilada plate.. Enchiladas were amazing. Eye of ribeye was different than your run of the mill steakhouse ribeye, had a smokey flavor to it, but was also very tasty. Place seemed a bit too dark for my liking, prefer a better lit dining experiance."

The ambience was very good, location was superb, as was the friendly service. The “cebollitas” en salsa roja, and your hot sauces, were outstanding. Not so was your beef. While mine was well-done, my wife’s was “less than well done”, and both were dry. While both steaks tasted good, we immediately compared our steaks to what we’ve had at local Brazilian rodizios (i.e .Nelore, Fogo de Chao). I appreciate your request for feedback and wish you good luck in your endeavors!"

  • "I came here for Houston restaurant week. I would recommend this place to anyone who loves a perfectly cooked steak. Everyone at the table was extremely satisfied with the cut of meat they ordered. I preferred the ribeye to the brisket but the brisket was great too. Also ordered the flan which was fantastic. We were not the biggest fans of the arroz con leche that came with the flan. Overall I would come back for a special occasion. Also if you can, I would suggest asking for a table on the first floor. The decor and ambiance seemed better on the first floor. The 2nd floor was very quite and did not look as fancy."

  • "They made us wait 20 minutes past our reservation time for seating when another party of the same size walked in after us and was seated immediately. They brought the wrong food, gave away our steaks and offered brisket. Waiter was very inattentive and manager had to keep coming over. Meal too so long we had to take dessert with us. Food was mediocre. We went for lunch during restaurant week and I felt that was why our service was terrible- maybe they reserve their best service for those who pay full price? At least they comped the meals with the steaks. Would rate it zero stars if I could. Even after the terrible experience, they hyped their happy hour - as if any of us would come back. Zero stars if I could."

  • "Their food is so yummy that I will totally go back again! First of all, they serve very healthy pre-meal snacks - Jicama, way much better than chips. Their salad is very fresh and I love the mexican dressing. My steak was medium rare, and it was flavorful, tender and juicy. It is better than most of fancy steakhouse I went in H-town. Their flan is heavy, sweet and taste lasting, it was so good that me and my friend almost want to order another one! Their service is very outstanding as well, everyone is professional, nice and friendly, food serving time is fast.I recommend this awesome restaurant to anyone who want to experience fine Mexican dinning in Houston."

  • "We went to dinner at La Casa del Caballo during Restaurant Weeks, but we will definitely return year round! Our server was attentive, polite and had us feeling very pampered. We inquired as to where the lovely staircase in the lower dining room led; not only did he explain about a second dining area with window views of the city, but he also offered us a tour after our meal. When it was time to go home, he sent us with extra beans for our leftovers that my fiancé had enjoyed. He even gave the valet our ticket while we were getting ready to go so our car was waiting as we exited. Wonderful experience -- and that's not even considering the fantastic, flavorful, and generous food!"

  • "We had the new guy waiter. La Casa del Caballo pontificates the "Saltillo" style of cooking. I am a gringo but I have traveled many miles all over Latin America. My expectation was an explanation of "Saltillo" cooking, what I got was "It's a city in Mexico". Dick F**king Tracy, guess what I knew that! Finally found somebody who could explain the concept and we were good. Other requests: Can you put the Texans game on TV, did not happen. I would like a Michelada with Victoria - had to explain and I don't want a Michelada Cubano. I WANT A GLASS OF ICE WITH SALT A LITTLE LIME JUICE AND A VICTORIA. Now the food: AMAZING! Across the table we had salads, brisket, enchiladas, rib eyes, flan, tres leches...again very good food."

The tortilla soup was very tasty and different from other versions since this is a North Mexican restaurant. The carnitas steak has an unusual football shape but is tasty and different than normal streaks. There were 4 interesting chilli sauces. Some surprising items were beef Carpaccio and brisket smoked and then braised in the cooking juices and beer. Everything tasted was great and am looking forward to returning to try other things such as their enchiladas. The service was excellent and the place is very nicely decorated. I ate in the downstairs restaurant area but there is an upper floor large deck area and bar that looks interesting."

The decor was cool, stained glass flames on the wall going up the stairs. Wait staff was very friendly. It was odd to us, but they had our leftovers waiting in the car at the Valet. We'll go back to try the regular menu."

The service was great and the food was very good. We ordered a bottle of wine, which was priced well and delicious. We shared the steak for 4 -- cooked perfectly and so tender. We ordered the queso fundido and the carpaccio for appetizers and they were both excellent. The 4 salsas they provided we are terrific, too. And we finished with Tres Leches, yum!"

  • "Mother's Day lunch was superb. I was vacillating between enchiladas and steak, and was thrilled to see they are offered in one dish. The sauces are divine. The only flaw was that the waitress forgot to bring my wine for the steak, even after we reminded her. When she finally brought it, I had finished what I was going to eat of my steak. In her defense, we think she had too many tables to tend to; management should have had more wait staff."
