A word from La Bodega - Leawood
"Tapas" - In the beginning. Tapas is a daily event in the life of the Spanish culture. Mainly a Northern Spain, Basque regional tradition, it has grown to signify a way of eating and socializing. It is said that tapas originated centuries ago. In Spanish, the word tapa or the verb tapar means "to cover." Tapas represents the Spanish custom of placing a piece of bread over the glass of wine. It is a custom that dates back past the 1500's. Traditionally, the exact food served is less important than the social occasion. Tapas is a way of life. It signifies leisure, camaraderie and good humor. In Spain, Tapas are almost always accompanied by wine. They are not so much about talking as they are about eating and drinking. The wine is the medium that holds the conversation with friends and the food together. You make time to enjoy the moment in an unhurried way. The threefold purpose of snacking on tapas is to dull any hunger pangs that have built up since the previous intake of comestibles.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "We love the tapas in La Bodega but The Sunday Brunch is pretty limited. If you want to compete with Bristol's you need to step it up. We were pretty disappointed for our Easter Sunday brunch celebration."

  • "We made our reservation for 8 PM. We were seated promptly and our waitress was friendly. Unfortunately, she confused my wife's order for her entrée. However, they corrected her order and did not charge us for her entrée. They were very apologetic (including the manager) and we were satisfied with their response. My only complaint about La Bodega (both locations) is the temperature of their beer is not very cold. Otherwise, the restaurants are solid with great food and service. We will definitely return when visiting KC."

  • "The food was excellent. The service was terrible. Our waiter didn't check on us and left our water glasses empty for 10 minutes! Plates piled up and were not cleared as the server was no where to be found! Don't let the service keep you away, perhaps a team approach would be helpful."

  • "Great menu, great service, overall wonderful experience. It was fun ordering a bunch of small bites to share. It was perfect for a good conversation and easy experience. Crowded, but lively scene. Prices are very reasonable for quality and flavor. Overall, my first time there, but we will be back often."

  • "We had a great time at La Bodega! Only suggestion is to have two smaller chefs tables instead of the big bulky one--not the best for group conversations but fabulous time had by all! Thank you!!"

  • "EXCELLENT food and service. I had the best glass of wine in a long time! But... it is PRICEY! Good food and our waiter was excellent. We had a good time at dinner"

  • "La Bodega is one of the only tapas places in town. Having Beau Bledsoe providing music on occasion is the icing on the cake!"

  • "Came for my husbands birthday and it was anything but a celebration. The tables were too close together - I could hear everything from the girls' conversation next to us. The server was uninterested and almost rude when telling her we needed a minute. When the food came, it was cold - lacking flavor and that special something I expected for the high end priced for tapas. I had called earlier to arrange a special cake surprise for my husband but the server must've forgotten because she never mentioned it. By that time we were ready to go, so we decided to skip it all together as we were so unimpressed by our experience."

  • "Four of us met for happy hour and light dinner on a Thursday afternoon. We sat outside as the weather was perfect. Food and beverages were awesome, but we had to beg for service a good bit of the time. At the end of the evening, I had to hunt down someone so that we could tab out."

  • "We dined there with my family of 5. Our waiter distracted us with singing odd lines from different song as he came and went from our table. The food (tapas) were brought from the kitchen way too quickly. It was a Tuesday night, not crowded, seemingly no need to rush us along. The wait staff kept coming and going through a side door by our table, during a cold rain/hail storm, blasting us half a dozen times with cold air. The $30 pitcher of Sangria was all ice and a poor value. We have always loved our dining experience at the original la Bodega. This dining event was a clear disappointment."

  • "The short ribs were terrific. The brotxeta was great! The chicken and chorizo skewers were awesome."

  • "Had a business lunch. We all went to the lunch buffet. It had a good variety of very tasteful items without being too filling, and best of all it was quick vs. having a number of tapas brought as they were ready.. Our server was attentive but not over bearing. Had a nice corner booth that was good for conversation. It was a perfect lunch venue."
