Diner Reviews
  • "Food very good, however, meat eaters not being catered to. Our waiter, Christopher, was excellent, but please advise help removing plates to check with patrons to see if they are finished if they are not aware of the knife/fork placing on plate to indicate as such. The room is quite pleasant, however the noise level does not allow for much conversation."

  • "I've never really been able to differentiate between La Bettola and Terroni, but due to its location, my friend and I paid a visit to the former restaurant. The offerings are a curated list of Terroni's main menu, so I stuck to my regular item- a nizzarda salad. As usual, the salad was done well. The service was my only hesitation; a server who can't really speak English might add to the charm of the Italian restaurant, but in terms of taking down orders and recommending a good wine, probably not."

  • "The food was outstanding, the wine list was excellent, and the server knowledgeable. However, Osteria's policy is not to break up checks for each diner. I have been all over Europe and North America and this is one of maybe a handful of places that won't do this very simple procedure. The impulse of many people is to overpay, particularly via the tip, because we think that our neighbor is not doing enough. Osteria got a lot more money out of us than it should that night. No one in my party will go there again until they make the very simple change of breaking up each person's tab based on what he/she owes. I can't believe a restaurant of this quality won't make the effort in this regard. It's insulting."

  • "GREAT FOOD . GREAT SERVICE. PERFECT FOR BEFORE OR AFTER A SHOW AT MASSEY HALL ! LOTS OF FUN ATMOSPHERE TOO !"

  • "great appetizers, rice cones and Parmesan...found our entrees both pasta (lamb ragu and Rigatoni Amatriciana) to be a bit too salty. will definitely return!"

  • "The presentation was modern chique, until it came to the dessert. My husband's looked delightful, however, when mine came, the Tiramasu, the second most expensive dessert item on their menu, it was in a mason jar! There was something lacking in that presentation given that up until then the decor, plate ware and glasses were modern chique. Then, after waiting for 15 minutes after our dessert we had to ask another server to let out server know we would like our bill. She never came back and when we left she merely looked at us over her shoulder. That was one time I am so sorry we tipped. She absolutely did not deserve it! We will not be returning."

  • "This restaurant is close enough to Massey Hall for a pre-event dinner. We wanted to go at 6, but could only get a reservation for 5:45, which ended up being perfect as we ordered two platters with a wonderful array of signature appetizers and had time to enjoy these with a nice Refosco from Friuli in honour of my Mom! To be honest I didn't really need an entre as the appetizer plates were plentiful. I had an orecchiette dish with cherry tomatoes, eggpant and one of my friends had a different orecchiette dish, and the third the cumbrae pork chop. All delicious!"

  • "We frequent Terroni on Queen quite often and since we were going to Massey Hall we decided to try this location. The only pizza I ever order was not on this menu so I asked the waiter if they could make it for me. I usually have a pizza that has buffalo mozzarella, prosciutto and arugula. Their menu offered a basic mozzarella pizza and since it was quite clear they had the other ingredients in house it should have been quite easy but the waiter said they would not do it!!! I have worked in restaurants for 25 years and every place I have ever worked always believes in making the guest happy if they have the ability to do so. It was not like I was asking for something obscure, it is a pizza they are known for. Will never go back!!"

  • "Loved the atmosphere. Food was delicious and service was courteous and quick. Homemade pasta is a huge appeal. Would recommend for dinner with group of friends or romantic dates. Music could be a little quieter."

  • "WE love this restaurant. the food is always interesting and the ambiance is unique. we are always surprised how many people wander in and the place fills up from 6:30 till closing. Great wine, Great food and service. What more can you ask for. The Funghi Assoluti is a dream Baked Oyster Mushrooms, Parmigiano, Bread Crumbs, Extra-Virgin Olive Oil and Balsamic Vinegar on Arugola"

  • "We enjoyed everything about the meal except the noise level, with the music being the primary culprit. Typical of many restaurants these days, the music was too loud and did not match anything else about the food or environment. As the number of patrons increased so did the loudness level of the music, to the point that I have to shout across the table to have a conversation with my wife. The food itself was quite nice and the server was excellent in every way."

  • "It is a "fancy" restaurant, the price is not cheap.. although the dish tastes so so, it looks bad.. need more plating skills.. and the portion is small too for its price.. I won't recommend this place to my friends and won't come here for second time.."

  • "The food was authentic Italian. All of the pasta and breads are hand made. The food was fresh and the sizes were impressive. The atmosphere was rustic and classy. Would recommend."

  • "I'm from Italy and I've picked several Italian foods and they were all delicious. Basically is the same menu of Terroni but a bit more pricey."

  • "Good quality was good, server was pleasant but struggled with the wine list."

  • "The ambience of the restaurant was hip and suitable for a 19+ crowd. The set-up was professional and fit in good correlation with the downtown setting. The food was overwhelmingly dry and in small proportion. The price was competitive but not fitting for the taste, although the food did taste homemade, unprocessed and would definitely not make you feel ill after the meal. Service was friendly with professional. In an odd case I would go back."

  • "My girlfriend and I are suckers for Osteria. Their traditional Italian dining experience is always a treat to spoil ourselves. If you are on a date for two I highly recommend that you start your meal with the selection of 5 tapas to share the amazing flavors. You will not be disappointed with this restaurant."

  • "Good food and value for the price. A nice range of choices on the menu without providing too many variations on a type (i.e there a few pastas that are done very well, not 25 different mediocre variations). Very lively at lunch, but still with room to walk in. Make a reservation though to be guaranteed a table. We had a knowledgeable waiter, that knew how to correctly pronounce all the Italian menu items. Impressive."

  • "• Rustic northern Italian bistroesque setting. • Youthful and trendy but still genuinely traditional • Very tight narrow small tables • Privacy limited • I ordered the Octopus starter and thin crust pizza • Amazing thin crust pizza topped with mozzarella, mushroom and what appeared to be real parmigiano shavings and • Desert gelato and it was superb Fun place, lots of ambiance, great food, upper middle to high end prices"

  • "It is loud, busy, and packed; just like any good lunch place in Rome. The food is great, but, a little pricey. Try the sandwiches; wonderfully fresh bun, and fillings done in the real Italian style (not the breaded New York Italian style). Wines are good. Overall though, it is one of my favourite places in the downtown. I love coming here."

  • "Recent lunch... A starter plate (we shared) of mushrooms lightly sautéed, tossed with arugula.Ravioli filled with braised beef, that melts in the mouth. My lunch companion chose one filled with cheese, with walnut garnish. If you do not like to eat in places that are busy, buzzy, serving great food, and good wine...this is not your place! My friends and I,love it, every time.so pleased to have found just a couple of years ago."

  • "My husband and I really enjoyed our meal here, which included the beef carpaccio and a bottle of wine recommended by our server. Let them know before you start if you're attending a show and they will make sure to have you out in plenty of time."

  • "Menu is a little intimidating because its all in Italian. Almost strategic so you rely on server recommendations. No VQA wines. Server was nice. Gluten free pasta available."

  • "Food and atmosphere were good, service was slow and impersonal. It started when we first walked in the hostess was rude and quite short. Our server then paid more attention to other tables because we weren't 40+ years old. Server seemed to be disappointed to have us rather than an "older" group, perhaps thinking she wouldn't get tipped as much because we were young. The food was then only pretty good, the overall experience is not worth the $150-200."

  • "There is a section on open table, to indicate any special needs. I asked specifically for a quiet area due to my companion is hard of hearing.. (which I advised). They sat us directly under the speaker and played NEW WAVE music at a very loud decibel. I was imagining an authentic Italian ambience to match the restaurant - not new wave from the 80's. Everyone seemed generally annoyed to be there. Food was attractive enough but extremely bland.. all meals were lacking something in the taste. Oh and service wise ? Server was quick to leave the table, never smiled once, served by various people and none knew how to count the seats to ensure the correct person got the correct dish... And the servers acted completely indifferent to us."

  • "Despite being busy, and having the City turn their water off shortly after we got there, our server was grace under pressure offering alternative menu options in a beautiful accent. We were a group of friends that had not seen each other in several years and were so intent in catching up we ignored our menus, despite this, we were not made to feel that we had to eat and get out. The food is authentic Italian and delicious, definitely recommend for lunch or dinner."

  • "Went for a reunion dinner with a friend after 7 years and the whole experience was dulled with the horrible service. Even though we were just two people dining we apparently had 5 different servers who had absolutely no coordination/communication between them. We were asked about our order 5 times by the 5 servers before we finally got our meal which was nothing to write home about. And don't even get me started on how long it took us to get our drinks ordered. Once the drinks had been delivered, I had taken a couple of sips before excusing myself to the ladies room and when I came back I was informed by my friend that while she had to take a call one of our servers had cleared our drinks. Unbelievable! Never ever going back."

  • "Having eaten at the Terroni family of restaurants since the first opening, and having eaten at this restaurant years ago, I was shocked at the sub-par preparation. It was as if I was eating at the airport franchise version of Terroni. The menu sounded familiar but the food was inedible. To add insult to injury, the server was inattentive and snarky. Don't go!"

Did I mention the home made bread...OMG with the olive oil.....can't get enough of it so bought a bottle for home. The energy of the place makes us come back when we want a fun night out, Excellent attentive service even at busy times. Can't wait to go back again soon."

  • "I dined at La Bettola Osteria a few days ago, my second visit to this fantastic restaurant. As with my first visit, the service was impeccable, the food was amazing with a great menu, all expertly explained to us by the charming and knowledgeable Italian server. It is perfect for any occasion and I would not hesitate to go back to this restaurant or recommend it to anyone. Go, you won't be disappointed!"

  • "La Bettola Osteria is a personal fave of mine! It's a wonderful Italian restaurant. My party of 3 travelled from the Durham region just so that we could have a celebratory dinner there this past weekend. The food is fabulous, the atmosphere is enjoyable, and the wait staff is tremendous and tremendously knowledgeable. The wine list is extensive and includes Italian wines from the North, South and Central regions of Italy that you will not find on LCBO store shelves. If you ask your server, they will immediately be able to tell you about any of the items listed on the menu or the wine list. Servers pay attention and ensure you're attended to, without making you feel like you're being rushed. It really is just a great place to dine!"
