Diner Reviews
  • "Overall our family's outing was a lot of fun and the food was quite good. We are very puzzled about the $3.50 charge for fried rice when places like Benihana and House of Genji give you an option of fried or plain white rice included in the price of the lunch/dinner. Not all of us want plain ol' rice, but being charged nearly $4.00 for fried rice really seemed rather out of line and perhaps the management should reconsider. One thing to watch for is the chicken; I found a couple of pieces that were still quite raw and by the time I found them, the chef had already cleaned up the table and went away. I would have been fine with tossing it back on the teppan surface..."

  • "A fun restraunt to take a small group to. The chefs do a good job of socializing and get customers involved in the experience."

  • "Made a 7:30 reservation, and didn't get seated until almost 8. Loud kids running and screaming in the restaurant was annoying, but thankfully they left soon after we arrived. The waitress provided us with 2 complimentary appetizers to make up for the experience. The chef was fabulous and made new jokes I hadn't seen/heard before. Overall, a good experience."

  • "This place is great for special occasions. Although you may end up sitting with some rude customers on a busy night. Other than that the food, service, and atmosphere were all good!"

  • "Our party of six thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. Loved the chef, entertainment and ambiance. It's our five year old grand daughters favorite restaurant. We will definitely be back. The food was outstanding."

  • "I brought my husband here for his birthday on a Wednesday evening. I was surprised to see it so busy for a weeknight. The service was good and our chef did a great job of entertaining us. The noise level was very high though which made conversation a little difficult. Food was good. Overall, we had a very nice time."

  • "The woman singing in the bar as we arrived on a Saturday night was L O U D. We waited outside so as not to listen to this noise. Table was fine, good location, far far from the bar. Tables are for 8, we were 3, but table company was fine. Our Teppan chef must have been under-trained. The onions were not cooked enough, everything was too salty, even our other table mates said this. Meat was tough and flavorless. To get a second drink we had to ask the busboy to have her return. It was a BD dinner as was indicated on the Open Table reservation, but apparently they don't read the comments. They did not acknowledge the birthday. We didn't say anything as we were ready to leave."

  • "I really enjoyed this place! The service was excellent and food was fresh! Great place for groups! Fun for birthday too. ! The manager even stopped by and gave us our doggie bags!"

  • "It is always a fun experience. Who doesn't like to play with their food. I cannot ever catch the fried egg in my mouth when the cook flings it to me. Food cooked to everyones liking."

  • "A couple of gals were celebrating a friends b'day and we enjoyed the free dessert!"

  • "i found this place to be overpriced for what you got. the cook had a tendency to use a lot of salt, soy sauce, and butter/oil in everything. i was really dehydrated from all the sodium consumed during our meal."

  • "Always a good time when we go here. We got an especially fun chef this time around. Food was good as usual. They are gluten free friendly (offer different soup and salad dressing) and they have GF soy available. However, their teriyaki steak is not GF (we brought our own)."

  • "Let's just say it is always up to you to decide but, food was ordered on the menu and costly. I felt that what my husband ordered being one of the best plus mine around 24.00 that we would get what we ordered. My husbands meat being teriyaki steak, mine chicken with shrimp... that the steak would be a full cut plus mine a full breast. But it was all cut up with the other five people that sat at our table and all was equally given out. Who knew who got what at what price and I mean everything was the same. Will add, it all came out as a mix on the plate and not that much in portions! It is all in the fun of watching the cook and his throwing some of the scrambled eggs at you to catch with your mouth...... enjoy! Spend a lot of money too!"

  • "We went there for the girls' birthday because they liked the show. It was on a Friday night and it was packed. The noise level was so loud that you kind of have to yell at the people even at your own table. Even though I put on the reservation that it was for a birthday celebration, nothing was done until I talked to the waitress. One of our orders were for spicy chicken but the chef forgot to put the spicy sauce on. All in all, it was not a bad meal and the kids had fun. I would say that Benihana did a better job for the birthday. They took a picture for you and gave that to you in a Benihana frame and the kids got a chef hat. None of those here."

  • "We had reservations for 8:30, and checked in 5 min early. We were not seated till 9:15 We were not the only group this occurred with, as we constantly saw people come up asking what was taking so long. We have went to Benihana several times with reservations on Friday and Saturday nights and were always promptly seated. The food was good and the chef and table service was good. Atmosphere was a little louder than I was expecting for even this type of restaurant."

  • "Went to Kyoto Palace for the second time in a few months. Had been there for lunch and it was good. It was a large group lunch and the food was great and service was good too. Brought friends back and we where all very disappointed. We had reservations at 6:00 and where asked to go to the bar for a drink first. They wanted to push the drinks and then sat us about 10 minutes later, even though they had plenty of room in the restaurant. We felt that the food was just okay, the steak was pretty tender but we felt that we where rushed through the meal. Immediately the waitress brought our soup, which was good and before we could even finish it the salad had arrived and the main course was waiting for us. Wanted us in and out quick."

  • "Be prepared for LOTS of noise! The food prep noise was expected, but this is a loud restaurant when crowded. Their over-the-top birthday singing borders on the ridiculous. I can appreciate wanting to acknowledge a birthday, but banging on metal fixtures and screaming at the top of your lungs is not necessary. With many, many children all enjoying the show, the noise can be really problematic."

  • "There are other teppanyaki places closer to home but they just aren't as good. So we travel fr redwood city to Campbell for this Spot. Out server Melanie was awesome. Prob the best one there!"

  • "Kyoto Palace is what a Japanese Steakhouse should be - good food and happy atmosphere. Even at 9pm, the restaurant was full and loud. The only downfall to our visit was that we had a reservation and still had to wait 30 minutes to be seated. Despite the manager's apology, we were still disgruntled by this wait. The reason for making a reservation is to avoid the wait."

  • "Fun place to go but very over priced. With no alcohol, dinner costs $35 per person. Chicken is dark meat and steaks are poor cuts. Fun ambience - but don't go for the food - let someone else pick up the check."

  • "Ok restaurant to eat once in while. We left and smelled like the food we just consumed. A little annoyed by that. Also my wife asked Tricia for hot tea and never got it."

  • "We decided to take our daughter out for Valentines and joined our friend's family for a night of fun rather than romance. What a great decision, the food was good, the kids all had a great time and we have a very affordable and enjoyable valentine dinner. The rose that each girl/lady received also was a nice touch and I have to say one of the most beautiful roses that smells wonderful and has opened incredibly in the past day. Great job Kyoto Palace."

  • "A fun place to eat food that lets you watch the cook prepare to your liking.....I had the Kyoto Special (lobster, scallops and filet mignon) that was beyond perfect. The chef puts on a show (not unlike Benihanas) and it's just a fun time!!!!! You should make reservations as it gets busy after 5:30...."

  • "Good food, good service. Expecting it to be more unique but it was very compareable to Benihanas. Just wanted a different experience, plus our chef was very quiet and did not entertain well. Overall, it was good but I would just go back to Benihanas for the same experience, same food, and lesser price."

  • "This is my third or fourth time at Kyoto and, so far, it's been my best experience. The food was delicious! I had chicken/steak combo and Mom had steak/scallop combo. Meat was well seasoned, the grilled veggies were perfect and I could have eaten all of the fried rice for the entire table by myself. Service wasn't as good as it could have been (bussers and runners were great but our server definitely could have had more attention to detail), and the show wasn't as exciting as I've seen at other tepanyaki places, but I didn't mind since I've been to these types of restaurants many times and kinda know all the tricks already. I'll be back but I hope they step up their game a little."

  • "For some reason this last outing to Kyoto palace was not the same as always. We had to wait actually quite some time (about 25+ minutes or so) for a chef. I mean we ordered Saki, a large beer and we were able to eat our soup/salad and finish all the beer and saki before the chef showed up? Seemed like they are understaffing themselves again. Food was okay, not the same quality as before. Seemed like they were in a rush, so there wasn't as much of a "show" as it was just to get us our food and get out. Usually they put on a show, but not today. The steak was okay, however the rice were lacking some type of ingredient. Been here many times before, just something wasn't right today."

  • "We celebrated my sons 16th birthday here. The service was amazing, quality and quantity of food was great. The chef was fun and did all the usual tricks. They sang and presented my son with a slice of cheesecake which was a nice way to end the evening."

  • "We were disappointed after our meal because the chef at the table really makes or breaks your evening. Our chef was not fun, not energetic and only did one trick flipping egg prices to those at the table. Looking around the restaurant other tables were getting much more of a show from their chef. Ours came to the table after the chef on the other side had arrived and even left our table before the other chef was done cooking. You not only go to this place for the good food, but half for the table show. We were disappointed with our chef."

  • "This is an OK restaurant. The food is good and reliable but nothing special. Once you have been here a couple of times the novelty wears off. Good for a birthday or something similar. Sometimes the chefs are really engaging and entertaining and sometimes they don't really bother and just rush through the cooking. We had a table reserved for 6 people for 7.30 and we finally got seated at 8.30 so that was really bad."
