  • "Our friends said it was great prime rib, so decided to give it a try while traveling to St Louis for the weekend. It was good, but the real enjoyment was that the experience took me back to the early 1980's when I was waiter at a supper club in Wisconsin! The nautical decor in the middle of the Midwest, the hushed semi-formal service, sesame bread sticks with frozen butter patties, a sprig of parsley set next to the prime rib, wine glass printed with Kreis' name on it... All of this was a deja vu moment for me! It's actually kind of nice to experience the classics done well, instead of the trend of the moment that many restaurants take a stab at, only to jump to something else the next month. Just don't sit in the basement..."

  • "Very good experience, will return on occasional basis. Service a "little" slow on the little things--getting dirty dishes cleared--a little slow on cocktail service--but overall VERY satisfied. A few cocktails, a lower priced bottle of wine and two VERY good steaks $250."

  • "A friend highly recommended this restaurant and me and my guests were excited to take part in what was billed as the best prime rib in the U.S. The service from Frank was Ok. He seemed preoccupied and not overly helpful. The prime rib was not fork tender as I was lead to believe. Two others at my table also experienced tough cuts of prime rib associated with cold vegetable sides. I would not consider this anywhere near the best prime rib in the U.S."

  • "Great expereince! My steak was prepared perfectly, just the way I like it. The service was awseome as well. The staff were very attentive to all our needs. I never had to look for someone or wait to be acknowledged. I visited this restaurant after it was suggested by a co-worker. I was accompanied by a client and it was absolutley great! I would highly recommend this place and would definitely return for future dining outings/experiences."

  • "Even though there were some issues at check-in due to many parties arriving at once, the prime rib was the best I have had in St. Louis. It was tender, perfectly cooked, and delicious. Baked potatoes, bread, seasonal salad, and dessert (all desserts are made in-house) were also excellent. It has that old-school steakhouse vibe, but I couldn't argue with the food. The only downside was the garlic shrimp, which didn't have a lot of flavor and were a bit overcooked. Didn't mar the experience, though - 5/5, would recommend to anyone looking for an excellent prime rib dinner."

  • "The steak was excellent, but the sides were nothing to rave about. My double baked potato was dry / a little burnt and the side of creamed spinach was too small for the price tag. I also had the spinach salad that was a special for the evening which was delicious."

  • "My wife, daughter and boyfriend came for dinner for my birthday. The food was good, but not excellent as it had been in the past. We came on a Friday and the restaurant was only about half full which surprised me, maybe Lent? Our waiter was quite slow and was a bit rude. However, the other waitress did a superb job of keeping the table clean and drinks full throughout the evening. My wife and I have not been here in a few years and had enjoyed ourselves (always looking forward to a return visit), but have to question the cost of the meal for quality of the meal and services provided. The used to be a gem but is a bit tarnished. The vent above our table was held together by duct tape."

  • "The service was slow. The waiter appeared disinterested. The crab cakes were excellent. The Caprese salad was quite good. The prime rib which is supposed to be their specialty was not that good. Portion sizes were more than adequate. My wife had a New York strip steak. She prefers to the New York strip at Fleming's. You can hold a conversation though."

  • "Kreis' (pronounced Chris's) is the second oldest restaurant in St. Louis at 76 years old. It's known for perhaps the best prime rib on the planet with its smallest cut at 16 oz. and largest at 64oz with a "melt in your mouth" texture and decadent flavor. Their steaks are prime, aged and wonderfully seasoned and always to the exact temperature. The veal dishes are fantastic (I especially like Schnitzel a la Holstein) and they DON'T CHANGE. Haven't we leaned since 2008 that "change" isn't always good? Kreis' is a "prime" (pardon the pun) example why."

  • "What a charming steak house this is. Old world charm and character and ambiance that is so neat to have in the area. I love going to a place where a nice dress code, is not required, but you know it is expected and appreciated. A place to go with a touch of class. Now on to the food, we having been dining here for over 20 years and we have NEVER been disappointed. Prime Rib is the best the area has, the strip steak is wonderful, salads, sides, appetizers and desserts all great. If you get a chance, try the beet salad if they have it on special it is just fantastic. Ask for something off the menu in the Vienna Beef, filet, mushroom sauce just delicious."

  • "Our waiter was like a ghost. Think he was more interested in pleasing a larger party across the room. I asked for a medium well tenderloin. When our food came, immediately I saw my steak looked really dry. It tasted dry and looked like chicken. Was defintely not medium well. Sent it back. The second plate was slightly better but I ate most of it anyway because who sends their plate back twice? My fiancé ended up finishing it becaue he didn't want it to go to waste. The only parts of the dinner we enjoyed were the wine, broccoli and our bus boy Amos who was attentive."

  • "We love this place. Out of town guests, loved it. Prime rib, Vienna beef,scallops, special strip steak, salads, appetizers and sides are delicious and perfectly prepared and served by our favorite waiter. The prime rib, of course, is delicious. For appetizers, we had shrimp, calamari and toasted ravioli and they were all wonderful. Must have apple strudel for dessert. Our favorite St. Louis Steakhouse."

  • "My husband and friends have been dining at Kreis' for over 25 years and it is a great place if you love red meat! The preparation is perfect every time. On this particular visit I did not order seafood, but have in the past and found it to be very good. The wine selections are not extensive, but of good quality."

Been in the same location for years, and the food and service have remained consistently good for as long as I can remember. Great steaks. fabulous prime rib, decent wine list and very attentive service. Can't miss place for a business dinner. I highly recommend it."

  • "I invited 12 friends/family. Made reservation online. They even called to confirm. Everything was wonderful and delicious. They did not charge a Extra fee to cut birthday cake I brought in. Very nice. Not like most other restaurants -in fact They usually charge more than price of cake i bought . I appreciated saving some Money that way"

  • "We booked through open table, we were expecting our discount, but the waiter said no and if anyone complained then they would get a free desert. They can just go away. The food was so so. You can get the same steak at Texas Roadhouse for half the price."

  • "I have been going to Kreis' for a few years now. I don't think I will be going back on a Saturday night. Our 8pm reservation turned into a 8:30 seating. Not too bad, but we are on the babysitters's clock. The place was packed and there was no place to stand, the lobby/bar is too small for the size crowds. When we did finally sit down our waiter informed us they were out of prime rib, the restaurants specialty and the reason we go there. I wonder if I would have gotten our order in if we were sat at 8m. Service was impeccable, our waiter did a great job of addressing my wife's no gluten diet. I will return, but it will not be on a Saturday night."

My family loves it as their favorite special event restaurant and have been coming for year's but Personally, I think the food is ok, not great."

  • "We've wanted to try this old supper club looking restaurant for quite some time but it's a drive for us. Decided to try it for an "Eve of the eve" dinner. Very disappointing. The veal Oscar was a tasteless pre-formed veal patty with a tasteless lemon butter sauce. Tough with sinews. Never had veal Oscar with a breaded patty before. Prime Rib was just OK - nothing special. Mayfair dressing was also bland. The potato pancake was just a big overcooked tater tot and the potato Lyonnaise was burned and dried out. We were really looking for that old time supper club food but this place isn't it. Too much money for not very good food."

  • "Bob the bartender makes great drinks, but the food is mediocre is at best. The restaurant reminds me of funeral parlor: lots of oil paintings and depressing wallpaper. If you like nostalgia, (circa 1963) you may like the decor; however, if scalloped plates and lemons with every plate is your thing—this is the place for you. I ordered a "surf and turf." The filet of beef was overcooked and the lobster tasted frozen. It's a great break-up restaurant: just when you think you're getting a great experience, it goes south toward a depressing and unsatisfying outcome. After it's over, you will want to see Bob—so you can drink away the pain of your visit."

We very surprised when our waiter came to our table with a complimentary dessert and said "Happy Anniversary". Made our evening that much more special!   • "Coming from Chicago, we were wondering about great steaks. But we found just terrific steaks and service here. The Open Table reviews and Yelp reviews were numerous, and all great. And for good reason. Our waiter, Richard said he was the 'baby' on staff - been there 'just' 9 years. The service is perfect. Well trained. Our food runner/bus boy was equally as well trained. The food is awesome. Each steak was cooked perfectly - rib eye and strips. Our party of 4 all enjoyed. The desserts were really great as well. I was impressed! We plan to make it a regular on future visits. The 'manager' also stopped by which is always a nice touch."

  • "Normally when we go to this restaurant I have a steak, which is always great, but this time I opted for the halibut special and I can only describe it as outstanding. I would rate it as good or better than most of the seafood restaurants I have eaten at. My wife had a filet and it was as good as ever. The service is always outstanding at this restaurant probably because the wait staff is older and has been doing this for years and know how to do it right. Would happily go back to Kreis's."

  • "The host was an older man with a mustache and while the food was very good, he was RUDE. I asked for a special table as it was a very special occasion. He said that I all tables are taken and that I should have called ahead. I stated that I put special instructions in my Open Table profile and he stated that did not make a difference and, again, I should have called. The worst part was his rude attitude. When we were leaving he was at the host podium and looked at us and simply walked away. Another host then went to the podium and watched us walk out without thanking us or saying good night. I spent A LOT of money for great food and a rude experience. I will NEVER go there again and NEVER recommend Kreis'."
