  • "They got most of our orders wrong and the service was so bad that the manager gave the entire table 50% off. The cook burned all the garlic for the garlic fried rice and my wife's shrimp were burned on one side and raw on the other."

  • "This is the second time we have been to Kobe's in Maui and was happy with our visit both times. It is always fun to have your meal cooked right in front of you, and both the quality and quantity is very satisfying at this restaurant. The only complaint I had with this visit was the service was a little slow as it took almost an hour to have our chef come to our table. As we understand it, one of the chef's had to leave creating a short staff problem. Otherwise, everything was as expected and we enjoyed our meal here."

  • "We have lived on maui for 3 years and it was our first time at Kobe's, it was our first date night alone since we had our baby. It was a little loud and smoky from the grills, but I absolutely loved the experience our chef was funny kept us entertained the food was fabulous. Its not the best choice if your looking for a more private romantic place. But a great place to bring your family or group of friends. The price is pretty good especially for all the food you get. We will most definitely be back. Thanks for a great dining experience."

  • "Very good food and fun place with family. Chef was funny and the kids loved all the fire and excitement."

  • "My family and I were on vacation and wanted to have a memorable dinner. We chose this place because we had seen some coupons in magazines and thought that it might be a fun time. The staff was able to use the coupons, which we were grateful for. When we arrived we had to wait a half an hour... Then when we were seated we had to wAit another 20 minutes or so. The chef came and was amazing with his tools, unfortunately, it was hard to understand him:( he had a heavy accent. The food was not very tasty... It was a bit flavorless. Overall, it was a nice experience at the table, but the beforehand kind of put a bad memory and the food was nothing to write how about."

  • "Good, but not as good an experience as all the other times we've been there... plus I notice the reviews have gone down."

  • "We have been to Kobe on numerous occasions and find this visit was lacking. We have a 7 month old and booked the earliest sitting in order to eat first. We waited 40 minutes before our meal was started, staff appeared very flustered and unorganized. This is not acceptable with young children."

  • "Great for couples, families, small groups. The Japanese Steak House atmosphere is always fun and entertaining. And the food is always great. I realize they have to prepare an entire table, including the grill, before they can seat you, but my only minor complaint is that both times we have eaten there we have been kept waiting 30 to 45 minutes after our reservation time before being taken to our table. If you come prepared for that, you should have an enjoyable time."

  • "A lot of food. Food is just okay. The chef was funny but what they do with the onions i.e. light them on fire is very predictable.. It's like that in every similar Japanese restaurant. I guess it's okay for kids if they have never seen it."

  • "Always a fun atmospher - food cooked table side - very well prepared"

  • "Food was just OK... Cheaper than Benihana but Benihana food is better, cook was funny, but the ventilation above the grill is very weak, smoke was blowing in people's faces on one side of the table, then had to move.... "

  • "It's time for Kobe Maui to get an overhaul. It's too dirty to continue to be on our must visit list. What a shame."

  • "We have been visiting Maui for years (and years), and have been eating at Kobe every trip. It's close to Ka'anapali (where we stay), parking at night is easy, and the prices for dinners are decent -- good value for the money. We enjoy the group eating experience, and always meet someone fun! The food is good and reliable, and the chef's cooking "show" is always a hoot. This year, we went on an extraordinarily hot night, and found out that there is no A/C in the restaurant! (Be warned.) Otherwise, we recommend Kobe!"

  • "Kobe's is a fun entertaining atmosphere. The chefs are the ones who make it fun, but you have to cross your fingers you get the right ones!"

  • "While there is no view from this restaurant, and sometimes you have to wait in the bar before being seated ( seems like a ploy to get you to buy more alcohol), once you get to your table, the fun is on. The chef at your table is always entertaining and prepares tasty food right in front of you. We went early and enjoyed very reasonable prices for a shrimp and steak combo ( other parties at our shared table had fish and chicken and beef). A fun place for a birthday or anniversary celebration, while the chef prepares a mini Kileaua volcano eruption to delight the eyes...made from stacked onion rings and fueled with oil and fire! "

  • "My kids love the experience & food at this type of place so we go. The food is tasty and the prices, for Maui, are reasonable. The hostess staff is terrible, however, and the building itself quite unappealing. During our recent trip to Maui we went here twice (for the kids). The first time we were seated relatively quickly but the seemingly clueless waitress brought us up a narrow staircase to the upper level, looked around and said, "uh...wait here." So we stood there for 10 minutes or so unsure what to do until she finally came back and told us to sit down. The 2nd visit was awful - 40 minute wait in the dingy lounge - 15 minute further wait at the table. They overbook & do not care how long you wait. RUDE hostess doesn't care."

  • "This restaurant was very nice. We sat with a small group (8) and our chef was so talented. He did things with food that I've never seen before. He created volcanoes with onions, and the meat melted in your mouth. Everything was prepared on a grill right in front of us. The only thing about this experience that was disappointing was the fact that it was advertised as a "sunset" special. Not familiar with Lahaina's geography we thought we would get to watch the sunset. We had only been in Maui a few days. The restaurant is nowhere near the water so to me the advertising seemed to be a little misleading. Apart from that it was a great experience and I would definitely visit again. Prices were very reasonable."

  • "We usually go to the tepanyaki at the Sheraton since it a favorite of our kids. This year we tried Kobe's and are so glad we did. The food was great, our cook was fantastic. Super entertaining, kids said it was so much better than the other place. More reasonBle and a lot more food. We will be back next year!!!!"

  • "The food was good. We were sitting in the upstairs area, it was really hot and smoky. We smelled like we spent the day cooking once we got out. The ventilation was definitely a problem."

  • "We made reservations to dine at Kobe, I thought the point of making a reservation was to avoid waiting. We had to wait for 30 minutes to be seated. When we were at out table, the server, while distributing the glasses of water at our table, accidentally broke one glass on the cooking surface, there were glass shards everywhere, we were waiting, dumbfounded for the wait staff to follow protocol and clear the mess, but that was not the case, we had to call the manager, who promptly moved us to another table that was just vacated (the restaurant was very busy that night). To say the least, the person that saved the night was the cook, the food was great and his teppanyaki skills were superb."

  • "scottie, our chef was awesome. entertaining but most of all the food was perfectly seasoned . . . not too salty and not to bland. also he had a great ides to cook all the veg first instead of cooking it last and the veg would get all black from the oil of the meats . it was a perfect belated valentines night from the time we entered until we left!"

  • "This can be lots of fun, maybe once or twice. A lot depends on whether your chef is having fun; ours wasn't the last time, so the whole performance cooking thing was a little strained. The restaurant is getting along in years and showing its age. The food was fine but not exceptional. Since you sit at tables of 8, it's nice to have a party of 8 yourself, just in case your tablemates are not interested in enjoying a communal experience. We three adults were not able to engage the four 20-somethings at our table in anything beyond hello, so it was just uncomfortable all around. So: Go once for sure, take 7 other people with you, maybe go a little later in the evening when the chefs have hit their stride."

  • "We had a very enjoyable evening at Kobe's. It's a hibachi-style setting and lets you interact with the table chef and the other patrons. We met some very nice people and loved the food. Pleasant experience!"
