Diner Reviews
  • "Just have a problem with the seating along two sections by the windows. There is no back support for the person that has to sit in front of the windows, & you have the feel of sitting on a box. There are metal bars that slant against the wall that are not even close to your back. Dining with no back support is very uncomfortable. We have had to sit there 4 times but will request to sit elsewhere from now on. Whoever designed those didn't put a lot of thought in the process. Other than that, everything else is very good."

  • "The menu is very limited. Appetizer menu very limited. However the food tasted fabulous! The drinks were perfect. Our server seemed over worked and had too many tables, even though there were several empty tables. Our server was very polite and knowledgable however our drinks did get empty several times and it was hard to get his attention to come check on us."

  • "The consistent, fresh, presentation and taste of their food/menu keeps us coming back to all The Fish Camps! The best Shrimp & Grits in Jacksonville, FL and the service is wonderful. The wine selection ranges from the ridiculous to the everyday taste - that everyone can afford. We dined on my Birthday....a night of tremendous lightening and thunder storms. The restaurant was filled - with folks 'waiting'. A great meeting place, great water view location and overall - our favorite! (In fact, we cancelled the 'special' dinner at another restaurant, as I really wanted to be here). Great Night!"

  • "The atmosphere is best in area. Sitting upstairs, inside gets very loud, so an important business meeting is not recommended. The menu is thorough and prices fair. I was not impressed with the PEI mussels. They were small, chewy and the sauce was just off. The watermelon salad was a big hit. If you're into portion size, my two appetizers for my dinner were more than enough, especially for the price. My dining companion's fish dinner would be compared to Bonefish in size and price, though not quite as tasty. Her sides, along with the fish all blended together, making for one big taste bud overload. The waitress was attentive though don't expect expert wine descriptions. After all, its a fish camp not a wine bar."

Calamari and fried Green tomato apps flavorful. Blackened Mahi correctly cooked, moist and full of flavor with the greens. Crabcake entree along w/ Aoli very good."

  • "I met a few girlfriends there for brunch on a Sunday. The service was wonderful. Our server was excellent at describing the menu and favorites. He was personable and always made sure we were taken care of. The fish tacos were fresh and delicious. My friend said the shrimp and grits were the best she's ever had. This company knows good food and service at all of their locations. Great addition to this side of town and I know this location will do well"

  • "Took my wife based on all the rave reviews but was actually not impressed with much. The service was good except that we felt rushed. I know they want and need to turn the tables over often to be profitable, but it was a little too obvious. Also the food was good, but not great. The fried clam bellies were the best part of the meal. The fried gator tail was okay but the artichoke was blah. Our main course selections were decent but not memorable. Pricing was fair."

  • "We are new to the area and had been driving by a lot. We were curious and I saw how full the parking lot looked each evening at 6 to 6:30 pm. We made reservations online using the Open Table system. Easy. Made a special request to have a window table. They had valet parking but there were available self park spaces close by. Our table was ready by the window. Service was good. Kitchen fast and timely. Food delicious. Not cheap but reasonably priced for excellent food. View was ...ok. Our table was not on the water per se but we could see it. Better views from the tables on the outside deck. Next time. And there will be a next time!"

  • "Love this restaurant and so glad to see it come to the area and take advantage of the amazing view of Julington Creek, but the noise level in the upstairs dining room is just too much. If it weren't so hot outside we would have dined there. The waitress actually has to almost yell to tell the specials and then we still strain to hear her."

  • "It was so loud that I could not hear the person I was with..Conch fritters the best I have had. Dinner was above average and service was excellent on a busy night."

  • "This was our 3rd time here, 2nd time for lunch, the food was THE BEST of all 3 visits and it was really good every other time. The waitress was rather not very attentive and didn't really listen to what we said. She totally forgot my beer order and had to ask the person that brought our food, then after our food came, she came back 3 times within 5 minutes and asked how our food was. Then she took away the condiments while my wife was still eating and we had to ask for cocktail sauce for her to finish her meal. She was probably just having an off day."

  • "The food was very tasty! We had a Red Snapper dish the presentation lovely and wonderful taste experience. Only draw back is very noisy had a hard time hearing our server and visiting with others at our table."

  • "We had a wonderful meal and time at Julington Fish Camp. We began the meal with Fried Green Tomatoes and Fish Dip, both of which were very tasty. Our main meal orders included Shrimp and Grits, Fried Shrimp and Fish Platter, Fried Fish, and Blackened Red Snapper. Each of us were very pleased with our choices. We ended the meal with Key Lime Pie and Chocolate Sweet and Salty Torte. Both were a big thumbs up! As for the atmosphere, this is a noisy "fish camp" ambience, which can make conversation a little challenging at times. The service is wonderful, though, and Merissa did a great job, giving us time to visit, yet being attentive. Parking is somewhat of an issue, but free valet parking is provided."

  • "We had another great dinner at the Fish Camp. I ordered the special and it was great. We tried a couple of the specials that night and were very happy with them all. The white bean hummus should become a menu staple. Our server was great."

  • "Great food! Great service! I had requested a booth with a window view, where the noise would be 'conversation friendly' but there was a break down in communication and we were seated at a table and boy was it ever noisy! We dined with a couple whom we like to converse with and catch up, however, as good as everything was, it is not a place to do anything at but dine! We will try again, when it is cooler, so that we can dine outside. I would recommend this place with stipulation, be prepared to yell a lot at your dinning companion!"

  • "Love this sister restaurant to Palm Valley because its closer. Also tables not as close together which is nice. But just as loud! We had to shout at our waiter to give our order. Food was awesome and came out really quickly. Really wish they would add some artwork or fabric to cut down on the noise."

  • "Good rating because there is not a lot to choose from in the area. Our previous experience here was one fish dish over cooked, the manager came over and agreed it was over cooked and replaced the dish. Unfortunately, the other diner had to wait until the replacement, so that dish became cold. In some restaurants, that would have meant a comp of some sort, not here, you just wait until the food comes out with no regard for the other diner. This visit the grouper was excellent, however, the shrimp & grits, a staple of the fish camp group was not. The shrimp were small & over cooked, the grits were creamy but thin."

  • "We went on a friday night and it was noisier than a previous time but the view of the creek and the St. Johns River was very nice. The server was attentive and the food very good, as usual!"

  • "The food is always delicious!!! This dinner was with 2 of my girlfriends who had never been here and they loved their food as well. The snapper special was delicious and the scallops were a great start. The only bad thing I would have to say was that it was sooooooooo hot inside. And on a hot summer early evening in Jacksonville that's not good. All 3 of us were steady wiping the sweat off our faces."

  • "The worst thing about this place is he noise. If you have to repeat your orders he waiter 3 times because he can't hear you, you should probably do something about the noise! Food is very good though, which is why we have been there 3 times!"

  • "Everything is great as always. If I had to find something to critique, it might be that it is always packed and sometimes so loud that a conversation is difficult. I will take that anytime for the quality of food and service!!!"

  • "We love the view of the Saint Johns River from Fish Camp. The atmosphere is really nice, albeit loud. It's a wide open space where conversations are going constantly, so if you're looking for a quiet and romantic place, this might not be the one. We sure love it though!"

  • "This marina restaurant has great food. However the service is consistantly poor.It seems everytime we go we end up with terrible service. This last visit we sat outside. The server started out attentive but quickly forgot about us. They served our apetizer we had no silverware. We had to eat with our fingers as no one came back to table for 20 minutes. The server laughed that we had no silver, stated our food would be right out and disappeared again. We had to go inside for a glass of wine and preceded to wait another 30 minutes for our food. Food was wonderful but evening ruined. We ate about 1/2 and brought it home. Manager came over to apologize and offered a gift card but never brought it to us. I hope they hire better servers."

  • "We have eaten here several times, and previous visits were good to very good. We each got the pan fried chicken with grits and greens. The chicken WAS pan fried; however, they submerged it in a bowl of grits so the chicken had no taste. The grits were good. In my wife's greens was a very large pepper which we guessed they used to season the greens. It was gross looking and was not edible. I would never order this dish again. I cannot imagine anyone ordering this dish twice."

  • "This spot has excellent service, a pleasant, dock-side location, a great facility, and the kind of thoughtful menu that leaves no real gaps. Any place that serves ceviche and mussels, as well as whole fried fish is covering all the right points. Yet, the menu is not cluttered or too long to inspire confidence. As close to a sure thing as a higher-minded fish house gets for me. I drive here eagerly, and it is NOT in my neighborhood."

  • "Our second visit to JCFC was as good as the first visit! Although the restaurant is LOUD when its crowded, it is still a lively and fun place. The food is very very good, and there is a variety of choices from fish to steak. The fried green tomatoes and conch fritters are the best! Everyone finished their plates (no leftovers for tomorrow)! The service is very good, but reservations are really a must if you want to sit upstairs (downstairs if FCFS but is closed Mon and Tue). Its not inexpensive, so I wouldnt eat there every week, but it is a great place for a special occasion or a party. Will definitely be back!"

  • "Initially there was some confusion as to who our waiter/waitress was to be. The waiter was smart in advising us that happy hour was ending in 15 minutes but he ended up not being our server. Our appetizer was excellent. The meals were brought out. My salmon was excellent but unfortunately my husband's fish was very over cooked. It took awhile to get someone's attention to report the overcooked food. It was taken away and replaced very quickly. It was a dump and run and again unfortunately the fish was now served very raw. My husband went looking for someone to address the now raw fish. The third time his meal was finally served and at which point I had already finished my meal completely. It was very frustrating."

  • "The blackened mahi with tasso gravy, the collards, and the shrimp and grits were absolutely outstandingly delicious. The only bobble in the food was the crab cakes which had a dry, unpleasing texture. The server was kind and knowledgeable about the menu but either had too many tables to cover or was otherwise distracted. The dining area was not slammed, but the time from appetizer to main course was agonizingly long. It's an easy transgression to forgive considering the outstanding view of the creek and the visual poetry of life at the neighboring marina. We have been on other occasions when service was great, so hopefully this was just an anomaly. Even if super slow is the norm, it won't prevent us from going back for shrimp and grits."
