  • "My friend Jennifer and I took part in Julian's first pig roast of the year, and once again Chef Celina Tio went whole hog with preparation and presentation. Delicious pork and excellent side dishes were plentiful (the curry and grape potato salad was a standout for me), and an outstanding time was had by all."

  • "Great food in small portions so it's easy to get an appetizer, entree, and dessert. However, both men at the table thought the portions were too small. It's expensive, but what you get is perfectly prepared. We ate in the back room while the sun was setting and the tables were arrange so on half of all people in the room faced the window. This silhouetted my dining companions. It was a major detractor from the ambience. The server did eventually pull down the shade, but I think if the tables were simply turned 90 degrees the problem would be solved. There is an open window to the prep area which was both annoying and interesting. The food and prices suggest an upscale dining experience, but the room and dress are quite casual."

  • "I have wanted to eat at Julian for so long, so I was so excited about going. Our appointment was on a Friday at 7 pm. When we arrived I noticed there were more employees than customers- that should have been my first clue. We ordered drinks then pretzels as appetizers. It was terrible. It appeared that it had been microwave. When we explained this to the waitress she quickly told us that there were no microwaves. We decided to leave. My friend was told that Julian was a hit or miss as far as the food and service. My experience was definitely a miss. We will not be going back. We went to restaurants around the block and they were all very busy."

  • "My wife and I went there on a Friday evening. It was not crowded at all and all the staff was very friendly. We had seen Chef Tio on the Next Iron Chef and after we found out that she was from Kansas City we just had to come experience her restaurant. The food was amazing. There is not a large selection, but that's a good thing because they take the time to make great food. I had the Pork Belly and my wife had Scallops. Both were amazing. Definitely a place we'll be going back to!"

  • "Whenever we go to Kansas City, we live in Wichita, my husband and I make a point to have an evening at Julian's. We usually order whatever the waiter/waitress suggests and have been WOWed every time even if it is something we thought we didn't like. It is quiet and romantic but not stuffy or dressy. We just left and can't wait to return!"

  • "Our first visit was during lunch, and we left not clearn on why Julian has a good reputation. Thanks to a Christmas gift card, we made a second visit, this time for dinner. And it was a completely different experience. Both our dishes were excellent, as was the starter salads and dessert, and the wait staff was friendly and welcoming. It was a snowy night, and there were many empty tables, so maybe we got extra attention. But I don't think so. I think we saw the real Julian -- the one with great, satisfying food with a welcoming, warm ambience. We'll be back!"

  • "Julian was a fantastic restaurant, the atmosphere was very relaxed and the food was amazing, however I was not expecting to spend $120 for a dinner for two. There are no prices on the menu and nothing on opentable indicated it was this expensive. I am overall pleased with Julian but very upset with opentable and probably won't be using it again"

  • "I was looking for a fun place to take my wife for Valentine's Day. We watched Chef Tio on Iron Chef and really came to enjoy her combinations. Since then, we've wanted to find Julian's and experience for ourselves. We were not disappointed! The 4 course Valentine's Dinner was great for "first timers" but not last timers! The Chitaque Mushrooms with Ginger Sauce & the Oyster Rockefeller Soup were awesome, the Arugula Salad was crisp and flavorful, the Beef Wellington was an awesome medium-rare & the rabbit stew had excellent flavor, and the chocolate ganache was very rich & the Rose Water Panna Cotta was lite and smooth. Thank you Chef Tio for a great first experience!"

  • "I had a small dinner party for a special occasion, and Julian really set the mood. The Sunday dinners are perfect for any intimate occasion with perfectly portioned 3-or-4-course meals served family style. The main entree we had, the pan seared chicken on polenta, was moist, flavorful and a kicked-up comfort. Our server was friendly, the mood was perfect and I appreciated Chef Celina thanking us on our way out--it really made me feel welcomed. I will definitely be back!"

  • "I can think of many other places to spend $40/person and feel I got better enjoyment and value. Yes, the food is good and delicious and it looked good, but the decor is uninspiring and it lacked the warmth that Joe D's was rich in. Our waitress was very attentive. Almost too attentive as I felt rushed at times. Please note. I am not a foodie so fancy names and presentation don't make me feel my food is better."

  • "We husband and I went to Julian for a date night on a Friday night. We were very surprised by the table/room layout when we were sat down. The tables are crammed together in a small space and it was very loud and difficult to have a conversation. Also, they have hard uncomfortable chairs. The food was good, but overpriced. The service was very slow. We were disappointed overall. The food was good, but we will not return."

  • "My girlfriend and I visited Julian on a Friday night. I made reservations but had to change them due to conflicting commitments. We were late arriving even after the timing gymnastics, but we were welcomed immediately warmly and seated very quickly. The staff was very accommodating and provided us with information regarding the restaurant and the menu as well as the wine list. We ordered a an appetizer and enjoyed a glass of wine from what I thought was a very good selection of wines. Both the wine and the appetizer were excellent and excited us about our entrees. Our entrees were exceptional. We loved the presentation of the food and the flavors were amazing. Everything was impressive and we will be returning again."

  • "Ever since hearing of Chef Celina Tio from Iron Chef, this restaurant was at the top of our list of "places to try", and is now at the top of our "favorites" list! The food was to die for, our server was very friendly and knowledgeable, and the price was appropriate. Also, we were lucky enough to be there on a night when the restaurant was offering half-priced bottles of wine and 3-course meals for $30! All in all, it was a great experience, and we highly recommend this to anyone looking for a divine meal paired with the perfect wine!"

The hushpuppies were just a touch dense and the service was very efficient (if not particularly warm), but every other item both food and wine were quite simply, outstanding. There's a reason the chef's won a James Beard award... she deserves it."

  • "I was excited to try Julian for the first time for my birthday dinner. However, upon being seated (we had made a reservation), the hostess told us that the restaurant was pretty "crowded" so she apologized for our table--which was shoved up against the area where they set the food to be ran out into the restaurant. Our waiter had too many tables and therefore service was terrible. I follow at GF diet so I ended up getting a burger with no bun and the fries. The burger was mediocre and the fries tasted like they came out of a frozen bag--not what you would expect at a restaurant like that. My husband ordered the reuben which was decent but the mac and cheese he ordered as a side lacked flavor. Our meal was $50. We left very disappointed."

  • "Disappointed. Over the past few years have heard such good things about Julian's - so expected a great meal. Our service was very good - warm, friendly server and good timing on what she could control It seemed like a long time span between our salad and entre course. My local lettuce salad was bland - I don't like a lot of dressing, which this did not have - but ti also had no flavor. My sauteed beef, risotto and brocolini were very ordinary at best - and it was not served the way our server described. My husband enjoyed his trout. Desserts were ok but nothing special."
