Diner Reviews
  • "Josephine has a bright, fun and beautiful atmosphere. At times the noise level did rise above what one would expect for brunch, but overeall the food and service were both great."

  • "This was my first time for brunch at Josephine's and let me say it did not disappoint. Great meal and Jackson our server was wonderful, polished, charming, and had a wonderful knowledge of the menu. Such that I allowed him to choose my entree. Keep up the good work."

  • "I had high hopes for this restaurant, but the food was just so-so and I thought the menu wasn't that diverse."

  • "A little gem in the middle of an eclectic neighborhood. The menu was interesting when first glanced but proved to be very good. The noise level was too much and though the tables were nice and large the general ambiance made it very hard to hear my companions."

  • "New restaurant on 12th Ave. Still a work in process but hope it will be one of the best places to visit soon. Still need to work out a few issues. The food was good but not great. Had better fish at Red Lobster. You have a lot of potential and I hope you continue to improve."

  • "A fun spot, bright light in the daytime and cozy at night. Its very open and the decor is appealing. I will give it another try. The entrees we sampled - scallops, and beef cheeks were both relatively bland. I even asked for pepper."

  • "I went to Josephine with a girlfriend Friday night for dinner and wasn't disappointed. I had the beef with risotto and she had the steak. Both meals were wonderful. We decided to go with coffee instead of a drink and enjoyed the french press. Would absolutely go again."

  • "This was our second time to this restaurant and although we were impressed the first time, this visit was not as good. The scallops were bland and could have been prepared with more flavor in mind. However, the bussel sprouts were outstanding and I do not especially like burssels. The dessert offering was mediocre. I would still try this restaurant again as there were still food choices that I liked."

  • "The Josephine experience was good. We had a waitress that was very attentive, but a little over the top. She probably said the word, wonderful, several times. I had the fried oyster sandwich which our waitress highly recommended. It was mostly bread and the oysters were mushy, not crispy, which you would expect. My friend had the hangar steak with fries. She said it was very tasty, although she was still hungry after the meal. The sticky buns are to die for. They are delicious."

  • "Yes, Brussels sprouts! We ordered these as an extra and had them before the meal. We could have eaten only the Brussels sprouts and had four more orders before we would have been willing to stop! Hanger steak was tasty but tough. The fish was really good. The German Choc Donuts were amazing. Presentation here is lovely. Very trendy spot. Our waitress was so much fun and knowledgeable. She added much to the experience. Thanks to our Nashville friends for recommending."

  • "I'd been hearing about Josephine for MONTHS and was excited to finally book a reservation. Unfortunately, the friend I went with has a number of food allergies and limits on what she can eat. We ended up splitting pretzel rolls and a whole chicken, roasted, fried and then served on uncooked brussels sprouts leaves. The pretzel rolls were nice, the chicken was moist but not particularly flavorful, and I learned that brussels sprouts should always be cooked! The atmosphere and my Beaujolais were incredible, though, so I feel like I should have just ordered better. I'll be back."

  • "We went for Sunday Brunch and it was really good. Hightly recommend the sticky buns as a starter. Great, house-made, bloody mary's and looks like they also squeeze all their juices fresh daily."

  • "Food was very good, seemed to be a specialty drink for everyone's taste. Service was spot on."

  • "We had a great second dinner at Josephines. Had been there the week before and had the chicken for 2. The chicken was awesome-but they served raw brussel sprouts underneath the chicken...so we told them that roasted brussel sprouts would be so much better...and we came back a week later and they had changed the sprouts to roasted! Great listening and following customer feedback. Dining area is packed and hard to hear due to noise-but food and service was fantastic. Nice wine list-including Lewis!"

  • "Love the food and service but it was really loud and hard to hear across the table. We were even kn a corner table. Will definitely come back but don't think we would bring out parents.nouse was "entergetic" to a fault."

  • "The restaurant has a great feel. Not too small but intimate. Four of us dined and had the scallops and the hangar steak. Both were really good. The other reviews on the "brussel sprouts" is right on. They were delicious. We also split our salads which they were fine with. Perhaps a little pricey so we will go back every other month or so. Will probably try their brunch very soon."

  • "We went to brunch and had a great experience overall. The yogurt with granola and pears was a delicious start and easy to share. The omelet was prepared well and the staff accommodated my special requests for off-menu ingredients. My family ordered eggs benedict and said it was good, although they wished the portion was a bit more. Order french press coffee and Benton's bacon, too!"

  • "What a great addition to this area. The food was wonderful, our server a delight, and we can't wait to return! Please come and try....you will nt be disappointed!"

  • "loved the small plate options, you just have to go. We were only able to get reservations at 5:45, but we were glad because it did get pretty loud in terms of atmosphere. Loved the food and decor"

  • "There were only 4 of us, early on a week night, but we could not carry on a conversation without having to yell. The menu is limited, so we had a hard time finding any options. The beets were really good, but none of us would recommend anything else we had. Someone who is more interested in the wine list may enjoy sitting at the bar, not trying to talk, and having some of the impressive wine."

  • "We went for Brunch on Sunday morning and I was surprised it wasn't very crowded. The place is very nice and open. The services was a little slow considering it wasn't very crowded. The food was good but not amazing. I would probably still go again."

  • "We had a fantastic brunch, from blood orange mimosas and bloody marys to pretzel bread french toast and the perfect french omelette. We can't wait to go back!"

  • "My second time at Josephine. My date was a sophisticated vegetarian. She stated that she'd never had a more delicious and enjoyable meal. I (meat eating guy) tasted all of her dishes and agreed ... well except for the beet salad but that's just me. Loved the gnocchi. I had the scallops which were outstanding."

  • "There are so many awesome restaurants in town, this was a fun place but just mediocre food. Pretzel rolls tasted like bread with salt which would have been fine except you had to buy them as an app. Broccoli was delicious, Beet salad nicely presented but lacked flavor. Scallops were good, but not special, presentation was attractive though and hot. Grouper was dry and luke warm. Wine list was small but wonderful selections - well chosen unique varieties. I like the concept of open, communal house tables for walk-ins."

  • "Parking is a problem, my fish was very overlooked, bread was an additional cost. Others have told me the same thing. We could only get a reservation for 5:30 and at 6:30 there were still many empty tables...a little disappointing."

  • "Fantastic service and incredible brunch! I can't wait to return for dinner."

  • "Lovely on a sunny day - 1st time at Josephine's. Sat outside. Inside 2nd time on a dreary day, it seemed to crowded (tables very close) and it was not a good food day. I will give it another chance."

  • "Smoked trout bites were awesome, we loved the grouper and skate. But the Brussels sprouts! I can't remember enjoying any vegetable as much as these."

  • "Really wanted to like this place. It is adorable, decor-wise, and the menu looked appealing. But all of our dishes missed the mark. Whether it was undercooked, over seasoned, or just a little 'meh'. I'm thinking maybe lunch or brunch would be a better bet here than dinner."
    Dined on 3/15/2014
  • "Everything we had from drinks to the food to the service was excellent. Our only complaint was the noise level! The waitress could barely hear us ordering."
    Dined on 3/13/2014
  • "Thanks to the folks at Josephine for a fabulous meal and great service! Our server was very knowledgeable about the wine list and helped me create a veggie entree that was tasty and beautiful!"
    Dined on 3/15/2014
  • "The food was very good, service attentive (except for the overly social waitress at the next table). Would definitely return. We had drinks at the bar and the vodka selections for martini were slim (2 or 3) while the bourbon covered the gamut. Our wine, one red and a white were tasteless (almost watered down tasteless). Work on that. This restaurant also ascribes to the "get the plates of the table the minute people are done" philosophy, whether or not other patrons at the same table are still eating. It is a rude practice, unnecessary, and feels pushy. That knocked it down in my book and sets a different tone, certainly not one of efficiency."

  • "We enjoyed our meal, but found it too loud and not relaxing"

  • "I had already been to Josephine for a delicious lunch, so I knew we were going to be in for a real treat at dinner. Everything we had was superb! Our waiter was delightful as he explained so many of the dishes and drinks to us. The grouper was fantastic, the veggie melange was incredible and my rum cocktail was just right! We had such a good time, I'm sure we'll be back again and again."

  • "This was our first time here. We celebrated a friend's birthday for Saturday afternoon brunch. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu and drinks and was very patient with our group of four. We will definitely be back. The food was outstanding. The Bloody Mary was the best in town. The scallops were very good. Our waiter brought out my friend's birthday dessert with a candle and we didn't even tell him it was her birthday. The dessert was on the house. We were very impressed with our first visit."
