Diner Reviews
  • "This is my second time at Jellyfish (the first was during Restaurant Week earlier this year). I HAD to return to celebrate my birthday. My group was quickly seated. Our servers were friendly and extremely attentive (despite the Saturday night dinner rush). The ambiance is best described in three words: sexy, chic, and fun! The cool tones of the lighting and the live DJ spinning house and dance beats enhanced our dining experience. Dinner was phenomenal! The food was flavorful, masterfully prepared, and artfully plated. The kitchen even prepared a modified version of the noodles for a friend with dietary restrictions. Dessert was breathtaking and the waiter surprised me with a celebratory ice cream scoop!"

  • "I brought my mom to Jellyfish for her bday because she has never had sushi and I wanted to introduce her to it at a place I knew she would love! (My dad was out of town for work so he couldn't join us) We started with the rock shrimp, mini crab tacos and lettuce wraps. While the lettuce wraps were a bit messy she loved the shrimp and the tacos!!! We ordered a spicy tuna roll and a tempura shrimp roll (safe sushi intro for her) and she is hooked!! Thank you for such an amazing time! We will be back with my dad!!"

  • "Went with a group of girls for a 30th birthday and from the moment we walked in, we were welcomed by blue lights and great music. We were given a small cozy booth near the bar and started off each getting a different specialty drink (all of which were amazing...especially the prosecco drink and the old fashioned!) The edamame can be dressed in a variety of sauces (yum!) and the crab tacos were a huge hit. We ordered several rolls along with a veggie noodle dish for one of the girls (which ended up being devoured by all of us!) The waiter got blue birthday shots for all of us and the GM even stopped by and helped us get at in at a nearby exclusive nightclub! We felt like royalty and will definitely be back next time we hit the town!"

  • "The booths in front of the bar are way too tight. They need to remove one and space the rest out accordingly. The bases on the booths are huge and take up all the space for your feet. I couldn't get mine under the table without being on the base and then hitting the person sitting opposite me. When left to the side the waiter was constantly stepping on my feet. All of us are slim tall guys that went so the issue with tightness was NOT due to being obese."

  • "The restautant meets if not exceeds expectations. I did feel this place is better suited as a late night stop. It has it's own DJ which gave it the feel more associated with a night club or late night spot."

  • "Food was great, fish was fresh. There was a great variety of unique appetizers that you wouldn't find at most Japanese restaurants. I would also like to note that their music direction was top notch and they played an eclectic mix of deep house and ambient acid jazz. The music was perfect! Also I loved my Old Fashioned, it was super strong but good. They also brought me out a free birthday ice cream with a candle. Very nice experience."

  • "My wife and I had lunch at Jellyfish, at the north end of Rush St. We had toro and a very nice roll, as well as Waygu beef sliders with a spicy aioli. Everything was delicious and beautifully presented. Our cocktails (we were heading to the airport) were also quite nicely made. Overall, an excellent lunch experience."

  • "Jellyfish is the place for pretty drinks and mouthwatering small plates. Ideal for drinks on Friday or Saturday night..."

  • "I went here for lunch with a friend. The items the server suggested were up tot he hype. I definitely plan to go here again. I suspect it gets pretty crowded and a lot louder for dinner. But for lunch, it was a peaceful and wonderful experience."

  • "Jellyfish is a fabulous, intimate and trendy upscale sushi restaurant. The menu is packed full of delicious choices. This was my second time dining here and I was equally pleased both times. Not crazy about having to flag down valet coming and going nevertheless, I can't wait to go back!!"

  • "The sushi was outstanding. Clean, fresh and very tasty. The food gets high marks. They also had Chang beer which I was very excited about. My negative had to do with the atmosphere. Don't get stuck sitting on one of those white bench seating. Its not comfortable at all. Also, it seems like they can't decide what they want to be. The music was too loud when I was trying to talk to my date in the dining area. I understand having the bar area with the louder music. The funny thing is they were constantly changing the volume during songs because they even seemed confused on what an appropriate level should be. That said, I'd go back again for the sushi. Maybe sit at the bar so the music volume level would seem more appropriate."

  • "I LOVED the food that we got at Jellyfish. We got the grilled calamari which was fantastic, our sushi rolls were fresh and delishious. The fish was vey good quality. Drinks were wonderful too. My only complaint was that our tables were extremely close together. They actually had to pull our table out so I could squeeze in and then they replaced the table. Also our table was too low and we were constantly banging our knees. It was distracting being squeezed between two other couples because I could clearly overhear all of their conversation and they ours. Over all the decor was trendy and cool. The food was great, a little pricey though. Regardless, I would still recommend Jellyfish!"

  • "We had heard great things about this place, and it has a great vibe to it. We went on the early side because we had kids with us (age 8-10) but were disappointed with the menu options. They were out of the one item we were relying on (noodles!) and didn't have any other 'kid' friendly alternatives. They did call to confirm our reservation and I did discuss kid friendly menu options with the lady on the phone beforehand. On the other hand, the sushi was great, very fresh. However, I'm not sure the overall experience was what we had in mind. This is a great restaurant to go on a date or with friends, just be prepared to try familiar foods prepared in a very different/eclectic manner."

  • "Excellent, fusion menu, great tastes, presentation, etc. Desserts were gross. Sushi was great. Nice teas but not a lot of variety. Many posers desperate for dates were there and music was too loud. Tries to be a NY hip spot, but it's nice, despite that. Horrible 1990's waitress outfits!"

  • "Good food; horrible service. Even with reservation we had to wait 45 min before being seated"

  • "I liked it but thought a wow factor was coming. It was very standard which leads to being fine for the moment but forgettable for the future.."

  • "The ONLY thing negative id say is the fact that you can see the clothing store literally inside the resturaunt it was my first time there and I felt that looked bad."

  • "I have never had anything at Jellyfish that I wouldn't order again. The menu is always updated and you can tell that the passion behind jellyfish pours out in the food and attention to detail in the atmosphere. Spicy crab tacos- get two orders cuz you will want more! So good! Lettuce wraps- on point. JF fried rice- didn't want it to end. Summer rush roll is so light, crisp and refreshing- get it. The cloud 9 cocktail will put u exactly where it says it will."

  • "Normally I avoid Pan-Asian, but this is truly the exception. Great sake list, sushi, spicy Thai dishes. It's a little bit on the pricey side of what you get for your buck but it is very good food, drink, and atmosphere. Swanky but not pretentious, I would go back again for a special occasion."

  • "I was very excited to try Jellyfish as I've heard and seen about through friends and Facebook posts. We went for restaurant week, and I'm glad we tried the pre fixe menu as I was able to taste many items, I probably would not have otherwise tried. We all, and enjoyed all the dishes, but we're a bit of a foodie so were more adventureous in trying different things. Service was great as well! Very friendly and accommodating."

  • "We showed up a 15 minutes before our reservation and it wasn't too crowded. We got right up to the bar and proceeded to wait 20 minutes without getting a drink... actually, without even having the bartender look our way. Our friends showed up and we sat down... and proceeded to wait another 10 minutes before actually getting a drink. So, if you're counting, that's 30 minutes before getting a drink... that equals losing money. The food was great... we got a bunch of rolls and a few apps. The drinks were continually slow. Overall, I would go back... I'll just plan on it being a relatively sober night with good food, which isn't all that bad."

  • "I took my girlfriend back to Jellyfish because she wanted to back to Chicago for some great sushi. Jellyfish did not disappoint. Their signature rolls are outstanding! The server also gave us some excellent recommendations and also paired a sample brew for the meals/drinks. The ambiance of electric blue shades and white is very modern and energetic, yet quietly calming. I can't wait to go back."

  • "We typically avoid restaurants on this stretch of Rush, but we found Jellyfish available for lunch when we were near Oak Street and decided to try it--very glad we did. It's a bit hidden on the second floor of their building, but the spaces (both near the bar and towards the street) are great; most importantly, the food is excellent. Creative, very fresh sushi, good vegatable dishes, and a wonderful dessert (a taro ice cream that is not to be missed). Lunch is clearly not their busiest time, and it's possible that during dinner/late, it could get loud and tight; however, it was comfortable when we were there. Will be back."

  • "This was probably my 7th visit to Jellyfish!! I love the place, and each time I go there with different friends, they enjoy it as much as I do!! I hope they will be around for a very long time!!"

  • "Recommended to many friends after dining there for the first time. Will definitely go back as Sushi was some of the best we have ever had in Chicago. (or anywhere for that matter)"

  • "This place has an extensive shared plates menu and a lot of specialty sushi rolls. Everything I had had here is delicious however to eat enough to be full, it's not cheap. It is definitely worth a try and to go on a special occasion."

  • "Service was awful, food was mediocre and overpriced. The restaurant was out of almost everything we wanted to order. Do not waste your time or money at jellyfish."

  • "After trying a couple sushi places in Chicago, jellyfish has the best sushi. I enjoyed all the rolls and we ordered which was a lot of rolls. The miso soup was ok, they are trying to make the soup a bit more fancy but lost some of the miso taste( I prefer simple miso soup). We also had the stone app which was ok we have had better. The desserts were ok, not worth the calories. We enjoyed many cocktails and sake which were all really good."

  • "Jellyfish had a cool ambience, good food and great service, but the music was WAY too loud. We couldn't hear our server or have a conversation with our party. The crowd was pretty interesting as well."

  • "This place is very expensive and I don't mind spending money on a restaurant but this wasn't worth it. The drinks are watered down and unimpressive. The sushi is also veri mediocre. I would suggest dining at sunda if you're looking for great sushi and a great cocktail"

  • "Food was good service was good. Loud techno beat music most tables in the bar . They tell you quiet tables are reserved for large parties but when we left we saw small parties seated there. I guess you have to pay the hostess Will not be back!"
