A word from Jeffrey's Restaurant
Jeffrey's Restaurant & Bar has been an Austin neighborhood fine dining institution since 1975. In 2012 the restaurant closed for a major renovation and has reopened under the leadership of Austin's premiere restaurant group, McGuire Moorman Hospitality. The clubby restaurant, nestled in a quiet neighborhood just west of downtown features a lively bar, three distinct dining rooms and menus featuring dry-aged prime steaks, updated classic fine dining and locally sourced produce. Private dining is available, free valet is standard & local car service is offered.

Josephine House offers lunch, brunch, happy hour, dinner & Monday night steak frites. The Clarksville cottage features a small marble bar for coffee or cocktails, intimate tables in the dining room, shady nooks on our patio and a grassy front lawn for lounging. Chef Alex Manley and her team prepare an eclectic daily menu featuring the best locally sourced products.

The food, ambiance and service was wonderful but the prices are really high. I think they could use some bottles of wine under $100 and to lower some prices on their entrees a bit. The food was amazing but I would only go for a special occasion because the prices were so high.

Jeffrey's has a reputation of being a high quality if somewhat old school steakhouse in Austin TX, and in many ways this is accurate. The food is very good...the steaks are high quality (Wagyu/Kobe beef) - we shared the bone in rib eye. The starters were good...my companion had the Cauliflower soup, which was great, and I had the Crab Cakes, also very good. A very interesting (but expensive) wine list. Overall a great place for a special occasion, with good service and good food...but very traditional.

Our recent visit was our first since the renovation. Our server never introduced himself nor did he indicate he would be the one taking care of us that evening. Our appetizers were good, my crab cake full of nice chucks of crab. My first choice of wine was unavailable, forcing me into a second choice. My tenderloin, while cooked rare as requested, was so full of "grisel" it turned out to be such a chore to eat, I left half on my plate. Our server never returned to inquire about the quality of our meals, so I never had the chance to report the issue. The wine was charged twice on our invoice, eliciting only a quick "Sorry" and nothing more. He appear complete disinterested in us throughout the evening. It was our last visit.

The restaurant is beautiful, and oh so Austin chic! Food was absolutely divine, and the service by Chris Clark was impeccable. We had not been to Jeffrey's in a long time (we had gotten behind!), and we will now be coming back often! Our long ago favorite is now our new "top of the list" spot!

Food and service were perfect. We each had 4 appetizers rather than entrees: lobster/caviar blinis 👌, cuc soup 👍, salads ✌️and steak tartare ❤️. Dessert was a Sacher Tort. Dinner was much more affordable than expected. However, the Frias cab by the glass was mediocre and way overpriced. All-in-all a wonderful evening.

I decided to take the wife out to Jeffrey's for our first wedding anniversary dinner. We are pretty frugal in our dining experiences, but we were prepared for the sticker shock of the menu as this was a special occasion. It's been a long time since I've had a steak that costs more than $20 or that wasn't grilled myself. It was worth it. The next morning we both were still thinking about that wonderful 13oz New York Strip, the amazing brussell sprouts, and the cheesy potato gnocchi.

Our first time together (wife went there with family back in the seventies) Jeffery's was a great food/wine experience. We dined over two plus hours, Enjoying ourselves and speaking French with back waiter. Utilizing valet is a no brainier due to neighborhood location. My wife and I had the pleasure of dining at Jeffrey's this week. Several of our grown children had eaten there and highly recommended it to us. Since we both recently retired, we decided to make a road trip and try it out. Endless to say, it was an exceptional dining experience. I rate the restaraunt as excetional in food quality and service. Don't just take our word, try it for yourself. You will be glad you did

How can u screw up a lettuce wedge? How does it get soggy? Too much sald dressing! How long does it take to deliver a pastry? Apparently longer than it takes to make a soufflé! The pastry chef was backed up! Really? I liked it much better, when it was not trying to be so upscale?

Used to love this place. In the past, I did a number of large group dinners, had special occasion dinners and even got engaged here. However, thry must be needing to recoup their renovation....Insanely expensive prices!! They should be ashamed. there are too many other good restaurants and places now in Austin that are just as delicious. They lost my business due to being a little to proud and stupidly expensive.

Hubby started with the roasted crab cake w/arugula slaw & I had the poached lobster, local lettuces and hearts of palm, sweet corn, avocado, serrano in a citrus vinaigrette salad. I think I licked the plate. H had the wagyu ribeye (cooked to perfection), fried brussel sprouts with serrano honey aioli & bacon & steak fries. I was already kind of full so I had the fried oyster appetizer with fennel souvise, grapefruit, habanero & fingerlime vinaigrette & yucca root chips which was delicious. The oysters were so delicate (not heavy) and the dipping sauce was heaven. This place is not cheap ($$$$$$) but it was worth every penny. The best quality food and the best service I've had in a long time!

Our dinner was was one of the best meals we have ever experienced in Texas. The appetizers and salads are creative and exciting! We all ordered seafood and it was perfectly fresh and prepared beautifully. The seafood risotto and the tile fish were perfect. The meal was highlighted by the classic service touches of complementary amuses bouches on arrival and tiny bites of sorbet following the entree. The bar area was hopping and our small central dining area was quiet enough for good conversation. Wine list is well chosen and we had two perfect pairings. A memorable meal!

When you go out for a celebration and know you are going to spend a lot of money, you expect the food and dining experience to be perfect. My wife and I had a good dinner at Jeffrey's, but it was not amazing. The steak portions for the price are small, the seafood risotto was more risotto than seafood and the shrimp were a bit overdone. A final pet peeve, there were certain items which we were told by our waiter would be complimentary and when the bill came we were charged for them. Since we did eat them, we didn't want to cause a fuss, but in the future we would be much more careful.

We went for our anniversary and had a wonderful dining experience. Our waiter, Franc, was very helpful and all his recommendations were perfect. The "martini cart lady" made divine martinis and had such a beautiful, infectious smile and friendly nature. All our food was wonderful, but what really stood out for us were the warm spinach/dandelion salad, the crispy brussel sprouts and the Grand Mariner dessert souffle. Everything else was exceptional as well, but those 3 were what we refer to in our house as "moanable"! The only downside to the experience is that the tables are so close that if you are chewing and not talking you feel like you are eavesdropping on the next table's conversation. Other than that it is perfection!

My husband and I went to Jeffrey's for my birthday dinner recently. Unfortunately it seems the quality of the food has deteriorated since our last visit. My husband ordered a very expensive steak that was just adequate, nothing special. Our order of brussel sprouts was drenched in oil. The chocolate soufflé was dry and missing any sauce. Needless to say we were very disappointed. The one bight spot was our very helpful waiter. Too bad he couldn't also cook our food.

My wife and I spent our wedding anniversary dining at Jeffrey's and we had a good time. The food was superb and very well prepared, while the service was attentive and cheerful. Even though we knew going in it was an expensive restaurant, the bill at the end of the meal (without dessert) was still surprisingly high. Our final judgment is that we had an exceptional meal, but one that was not a particularly good value.

I was prepared to dislike Jeffrey's as old, over-the-hill and overpriced. but the food was much better, and more creative, than I expected. It's more than just old-school Texas haute cuisine, with big steaks and powerful sauces. We had a warm spinach salad that was extraordinary, with a very appealing presentation. our entrees were also excellent. My wife had seafood risotto and I had pouched halibut. Both dishes were perfectly prepared and well-presented. I especially liked the idea of serving the halibut over a vegetable ravioli; it was a nice pairing. Austin now has a lot of really good restaurants, but Jeffrey's can hold its own. The dishes are pricey, but not overpriced. Compared to Fino, it may even been a bargain. We'll go back.

We had an excellent celebratory meal for my wife's birthday. I love the unique options, such as the cheese cart and martini cart. The servers were well-versed in the food selections and paced the meal perfectly. We began with a 3-cheese board that we picked from the dozen selections on the cart, and they also gave my wife a complimentary gin martini, which she loved. We split a crab cake as an appetizer and then split the 14-oz Beeman Farms (Yoakum, Texas) ribeye, which was dry aged and cooked to perfection. While prohibitively priced ($75), the steaks are designed to split between a couple, as our steak was cut into six slices that made sharing easy. The sides were large, too. Don't forget dessert -- I loved the espresso souffle!
