Diner Reviews
  • "We had a birthday dinner with total foodies, who have been dying to try ICOB. Three types of oysters, rilled razor clams, giant shrimp. Then the bouillabaisse, trout, lobster roll, and lobster noodles. Great wine. Lemon sorbet, chocolate torte, and bacon donut. Amazing food and rave reviews from everyone. The service is absolutely tops--very efficient, friendly and thoughtful, but not intrusive--just right. And we just love the decor. Even the music is fun--a lot of oldies at a reasonable sound level so that you can talk but still enjoy the background sound of the music. We can well understand why this restaurant is always packed. They deserve to be! It's gone to the top of our list. Thank you!"

  • "Island Creek has become one of my favorite dining spots in Boston, so needless to say I was particularly disappointed with a less than fantastic dining experience. I ordered the Bouillabase and asked them to hold the bread as I have a gluten allergy. The dish came with bread in it and cod-fritters, and very little other seafood. When I brought this to the server's attention he was apologetic, but apathetic."

  • "Wonderful place. We came here for brunch and we got hungry prior to our reservation but they still seated us even though we were over half an hour early. The waiters are all really nice and are very knowledgeable about oysters (we love them, but dont know anything about them). We ordered egg frittatas and the shrimp-chorizo hash with a fried egg and toast and it was super delicious. Perfect portion, super tasty and affordable. The place also has beautiful interior design and looks beautiful. Absolutely nothing bad to say about this place."

  • "Came here to celebrate our one year wedding anniversary and we were so impressed. The food and cocktails were fantastic, the staff was incredibly nice. The restaurant went above and beyond making it a special experience for us. We will definitely be back!"

  • "This is a very popular spot and not always so easy to get reservations. Oysters are great. Food is good but some things could use a little work. Fries are too spicy, lobster bisque not so great, kind of muddy. Lobster rolls are excellent, cocktails are excellent (expensive)' and an excellent wine list."

  • "ICOB is quickly becoming my favorite restaurant in the city. The food is always terrific, the staff is helpful and attentive, and I always walk out of there feeling great about my meal. It is my top choice in the city for taking visitors to enjoy some of the best seafood the city has to offer"

  • "Also a mad house when it comes to noise level at the beginning, the over all interior is great and we liked it a lot - especially the walls filled with all the shells. The food was outstanding that night! Our waiter very attentive and helpful - our compliment. Later the noise level reduced to normal which made the experience even greater. Overall a very good place with excellent food and stuff - worth to return anytime."

  • "I don't think I can say enough great things about this place. This is the third time I've been here and I'm not disappointed again. Service is impeccable, wait staff is very helpful and always there when your glass is empty, your plates are empty and in the way (tables are relatively small) and are very knowledgeable about the menu. The food is amazing, especially the oysters. They are named after the island creek where their oysters come from and although these are the cheapest, they are fantastic. Lobster roll is to die for(warm) and much better than b&g oyster. And as the title points out, the butter they give you is unbelievable. They apparently add cayenne pepper and honey and wow. Definitely a new favorite spot."

  • "The food was amazing. We went for brunch and were incredibly pleased with the food and oysters that we ordered. I really marked down for service though because once we got our food we actually never saw our waitress again. She didn't return to see how we were doing and we actually had to flag a completely different waiter down to get the bill after sitting there for a bit. To bad for the restaurant because we were going to order another round of cocktails. oh well. everything else was top notch."

  • "The food was exceptional--obvious recommendation being the island creeks, but the runner detailed all of the oysters for us. Also, the salmon tartare app was really fun! Wine list for days with great recommendations from the knowledgeable waiter. Very attentive, friendly, cool. Had an lovely, upscale evening."

  • "Great oyster selection and cocktails. Nice rest of the menu but perhaps a bit limited. The place can get very noisy when it's busy and it's always busy! Wait staff is great, friendly and attentive."

  • "Great location within a short walk of Fenway Park and the food was eqauly great. Staff very knowledgeable about the different choices on the menu and helpful when making a selection. Would definitely go back again next time in Boston."

  • "Amazing food, stunning restaurant. I highly recommend the Lobster Roe Noodles. And the donut desert was one of the most amazing things I've ever tasted. Good service, and terrific ambience. Located in one of the coolest neighborhoods in Boston."

  • "We had a group of four and made reservations for dinner before a Saturday night game at Fenway. We arrived a few minutes before our reservation time of 4:30 and were promptly seated. Our server was very friendly and explained several of the menu items displaying great patience as we ask multiple questions. I started with an array of local oysters and my wife ordered the lobster bisque. Everyone ordered fish for their entree - between the four of us we tried three different items, the striped bass, the bluefish, and the Monkfish. The food was perfect and well presented. We shared one of the buttermilk biscuits which was fantastic. We received friendly service throughout the dinner. Great location - right around the corner from Fenway."

  • "The 6 varieties of oysters we ordered were fun, fresh and fabulous. The seafood casserole for one was not impressive, I mean it wasn't even comparable to your average family friendly seafood restaurant at any beach in NE. The bisque-style sauce needed something more like...flavor and shellfish. When I make a reservation 6 weeks in advance and all that's available is 5pm on a Saturday night, my expectations for the main course are high. And why is it that the only reservation ever available 2 months in advance on a Saturday night is 5:00pm or 5:30pm? What last name do you have to have to get a table at 7:00pm or later at this place? I should have orderd the clams or the lobster roll. I saw plenty of those dishes exiting the staging area."

  • "ICOB, as it likes to refer to itself, keeps up the high level: the fish is immaculately fresh and neatly prepared, the wines always distinctive, the service alert and friendly. We look forward to our next visit!"

  • "Island Creek has exploded in popularity. I first went not long after they opened a few years ago. I made a special point to come when I knew I was going to be back in Boston. I called three weeks in advance to get a reservation and couldn't get the time I wanted. If you have a specific date and time in mind make reservations six weeks in advance. The raw oysters are amazing. The beer list is unique and does not dissappoint."

  • "We just moved to Boston from Long Island and I've been dying to try ICOB.....we dined there on Tuesday night and we were not disappointed!! We sat at the oyster bar to get the full experience. The bar staff was very knowledgeable and pleasant. We started out with a perfect martini and shared a raw bar platter to start.....oysters, shrimp cocktail and 1/2 chilled lobster, all ice cold and delish!! The clam chowder and lobster roe noodles were both noteworthy. Next time I will try the oyster sliders and grilled razor clams...both looked and smelled delicious as they passed by. I highly recommend reservations...this place is packed most evenings. Can't wait to go back!"

  • "This was our 1st time here - I chose ICOB based on reviews. All the staff we encountered from the hostesses to the busboys were so friendly. Our waiter Kelsey was outstanding - patient and kind toward us 1st timers and very knowledgeable about the menu. It was fun having the opportunity to taste so many different fresh oysters. The Gem Lettuce salad and Crab Cake were outstanding. The Clam Chowder was a little salty. The Lobster Roll was okay - but we were expecting them to be better at $25 each (we ordered 3)."

  • "I am 32 and this was my first time having oysters. The flavors were amazing. I did however want to do an oyster shooter but that was not on the menu. My boyfriend is a seafood nut. He ordered the lobster roll and loved it. We will be back!"

  • "Very solid food -- great oyster selection. Good selection of wines. I'm a bit confused on why the kitchen would serve mussels without shells. Takes a lot of the fun out of eating them."

  • "The food was good, a little loud, there wasn't much to absorb the sound and the place was packed. We went by the Hawthorn before dinner and loved the vibe there. Were able to take drinks from the Hawthorn to the restaurant. Would visit again."

  • "Came here with my fiance and my friend from out of town. Absolutely everything we ordered was fantastic (Lobster Roe Noodles, Lobster Roll, Lobster Bisque, Clam Chowder, a dozen oysters, champagne and beer)."

  • "(1) A dozen of raw oysters, one of each kind. Very fresh and succulent. Must order. (2) Brown Butter Cauliflower. Must order. Our Favorite. (3) Brussels Sprouts: it was ok. We'd like the bacon bits to be smaller and softer (too dry). (4) Biscuits with honey. The first bite wasn't a "Wow," but we fell in love with it wih every bite we took. The fragrance and the subtle sweetness of the honey heightened the crispness of the biscuits. Yummm. (5) Oven Roasted Chicken. It looked dry when it arrived but tastes surprisingly moist and flavorful. (6) Lobster Roll. Ggenerous portion. Excellent rosemary roll but too big. (7) Fish & Chips. Big disappointment. American style: heavy batter and dry fish. If you want F&C, go to Marliaves."

  • "I had such a great experience at ICOB! Our waitress was fabulous and we had a huge party of first-time brunchers so she brought us the pastry basket and it was delicious. Such a nice touch! You MUST try the brown butter bacon doughnut - it will not disappoint. I brought a friend from out of town and she was so impressed. We will definitely be back!"

  • "Excellent oysters. A real treat. The rest of the meal (Sunday brunch) was uneven and not what I have come to expect. One lobster omelet was way over salted, another not. Home fries were soggy and almost cold. Fish and chips good, not great, and served mouth-destroyingly hot. French fries on the heavy side. Son waxed poetic about the bacon-topped donut. Maybe short staffed that day, because waiter - although helpful, knowledgeable, etc. - seemed to be spread a bit thin. OCOB is a great place and a favorite restaurant: wonderful atmosphere, great food, great attitude. Even the best restaurants have a few off days and this may have been one of them."

  • "This was our second trip to ICOB and like the first time, everything was awesome. We could not have asked for better service, there was always someone walking by the tables to evaluate if it was time to clear dishes, offer a drink refill or refill bread basket. The staff were not intrusive, they were attentive. The waiter was knowledgeable of the wine list and the menu; he was able to offer suggestions which worked well for us. We live 30 miles south of Boston and would visit more often if it was closer."

  • "Knowledgeable waitstaff helps to educate about varieties, and the resulting sampler is a great tasting sensation. Don't miss the raw tuna. We also had excellent steamers and lobster roll. The latter will make you forget about stopping at "Red's" in Wiscasset, ME. Reservations a must (we made ours a week in advance and had limited time selection). Heard hostess tell an 8pm Saturday night walk-in that the wait was 1hr 45min."

  • "The oysters were divine. The service impeccable. However, they made the worst bloody mary I've ever experienced. It was like they took the cocktail sauce and thinned it out with water for the mix. The shrimp in the shrimp cocktail were over cooked and chewy. Not the best Lobster Roll in Boston. The lobster was practically minced. Talk about false advertising. In the picture of Boston magazine on line it shows large pieces of Lobster. I definitely wouldn't categorize this as the best seafood restaurant in Boston. It's a great place to come in after work for a couple of beers and some oyster, but you're better off saving your money for cab fare and going home for dinner."
