Diner Reviews
  • "Everything about the place is perfect! Both the food and the people are fabulous. You seem to treat everyone who comes through the door as though they are very special: and that is hospitality at its finest. I love to come there...and am especially pleased that family members always suggest Isabella's."

  • "Terrific food! I highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "A pleasant place; waitress warm, helpful and prompt. Appetizer--calamari--tasty but prepared sauces heavy and tasteless. Ordered a " special"--a trout dish. Unfortunately it was visually unappealing and inedible. Very salty (briny) with three large, very thick, overcooked pieces of fish on top of salty vegetables. I don't recall ever sending back an entire dinner, but I did this time. Waitress was very kind and took price of dinner off check since my appetite was destroyed and I did not want another dish--much appreciated. Dessert (pecan pie) quite tasty. My husband's entrée--chicken picatta with polenta--fairly bland and overcooked. Both dishes heavy-handed in preparation. Our complaint is directed to chef and food preparation."

  • "We will continue to go back. There are particular selections that are truly outstanding if not remarkable and some just not quite as amazing but if you ask your knowledgable waitperson you won't go wrong and you'll find the food fit for foodies!! Atmosphere is not formal but tons of character a great charm!!! We are lucky to have his addition!!!!!"

  • "We aren't from the Lynchburg area. I found Isabella's on yelp and it had good reviews. We weren't disappointed. There were six of us and everyone thought their meal was delicious. We were celebrating our daughter getting her Doctorate Degree. It was a wonderful celebration and meal"

  • "Been here many times. Consistently high quality food and service. You can't do better in Lynchburg."

  • "Tucked away in a strip mall this place is a gem! I do a lot of work in NYC and this is up there as one of best restaurants. Inventive menu, fresh ingredients, beautiful decor (the artwork is spectacular--we tracked down the local artist and bought our own painting!) service was great too--warm, social, personable. Not snooty and pretentious but relaxed and laid back. We were in town for the weekend and liked it so much we came back our second night!"

  • "Every time, Isabella's delivers. Amazing food, atmosphere, service, I can't say enough. One of my favorite places to eat. Highly recommended for special occasion, dinner date, or even a quick lunch. One of the few places the meal is always better than your anticipation of it."

  • "Everything about our Isabella's experience was wonderful. Our food was expertly and perfectly prepared. Our waiter was attentive without being intrusive. We will certainly return to Isabella's any time that we are in town!"

  • "I found the wine list to be exceptional. Very impressed with all tapped beers being craft brews and seems to have neat outside (weather permitting) and bar atmosphere. Very solid ambiance and atmosphere and server was exceptionally attentive and knowledgable. Did wonderful job catering to us. Wish the menu had more expansive options for pasta and salads; seemed to have more fried/creamy than healthy choices (understand Lynchburg is still growing for health consciousness). Pasta came out tasty but too much olive oil for my preference. Portion size fair. Specials salad was tasty. Would be willing to try again but cautious b/c for price I expect a little more in terms of options, overall food quality."

  • "The combination of fig salad with pecans and the lobster bisque superb. I eat here for either lunch or dinner 5-6 times a year. Over the past 13 years, I have never had a bad or mediocre meal. The pasta is wonderful, but I usually elect a fish, which they do quite swell. The servers are knowledgable. The wine list is extensive, and there its a small wine shop where one can order a favorite taste by the case. The current artwork is by a talented local artist, Deede Buhler, who due to our exposure to her pieces at Isabellas, we eventually bought a painting. As in many restaurants these days, I would prefer more sound buffering. Still, it is not a particularly loud restaurant."

  • "Isabella's is my favorite restaurant in Lynchburg. Delicious food, great wine list, gracious waitstaff, reasonable prices and sophisticated atmosphere. There was a line when we arrived, but thanks to Open Table, we were seated promptly."

  • "Wife wore coat all night. Too close to door. Not very romantic at all. Rude Hostess"

  • "We went to Isabella's for our Valentines Day dinner. The food was great and our reservation was ready as soon as we walked in the door. The goat cheese ravioli was amazing and my wife really enjoyed the prime rib. I will add that the lighting is a little dim and our waiter seemed to be rushing us a little bit. In an hour he was probably at our table about 8 - 10 times, but I wouldn't say that's normal. This restaurant is probably the best place to dine in Lynchburg!"

  • "Its a really nice looking place with a nice vibe. But i have had better food at cheaper places"

  • "My wife and I ate here for a belated birthday dinner. The seating in our area was uncomfortably close. The service was "ok". The server did not ask if we wanted a salad when she took our order (did not come with the entrees) and we did not think of it until we saw her delivering salads to a nearby table. We did ask for salads but our entrees arrived and so we cancelled the salads. The food was delicious and the meal was reasonably priced."

  • "Isabella's is a lovely place to go for a special occasion. The restaurant is lovely, very elegant and friendly at the same time. The quality of the meal and the service was outstanding. I would definitely recommend this restaurant."

  • "Dinner here at the restaurant was the third in a series of surprises for my daughter who had just turned sixteen. I was very pleased that setting up the reservation was so easily done online and when I had to change the number of guests there were no issues. Everyone was very accommodating. We had our own private room in order to enjoy each other's company without disturbing others. All of our food came out together - which is pretty great because there were 13 of us! Those that served us were attentive and polite. The food was wonderful with only minor suggestions on one or two of the dishes. I also liked the fact that you could be dressy or casual - worked out great for my daughter and our family and friends!"

  • "Lobster bisque soup is phenomenal. The food is excellent, but a bit larger portions would be a nice feature. The bread and olive oil is wonderful."

  • "Our experience at Isaabella's was subperb. The food was good, Joanna, our server was EXCELLENT. She was attentive and accurate, and very personable. A great combination for good service and a reason to return. Excellent house wines also."

  • "Every time I travel to this area of Lynchburg - Boonsboro - I meet some friends for lunch here. Good choices for a variety of folks - salads, soups and sandwiches. I like the mixed choices of half plates plus soup of salads."

  • "The restaurant met, and sometimes exceeded our expectations. Would definetly recommend for a romantic dinner for two."

  • "I enjoyed my experience. However that statement doesn't allow for growth and improvement. There were 4 other occupied tables in the room in which we were seated. Each of those tables was given more attention. Our waiter was very helpful and friendly however, he forgot to bring things out and we saw him very sparingly. The dish I ordered came on the cold side and the chicken was over cooked. It was enjoyable nonetheless and I ate my dates dish instead. These are minor critiques but I know they help you improve. Thank you for the evening."

  • "With a late reservation there were limited seating and we chose a table in bar rather than a table near entrance or one that had a view of service station. The bar was a little more noisy but in a pleasant way. The food was great. Fresh salads and the Salmon dish was perfectly cooked and the Butternut Squash pasta was excellent. A split dessert of Carmel infused gelato was nice. The wine list is very good on the Italian side. We had a Cerratto style Piedmont which was moderately priced and delicious. Lynchburg is lucky to have this very good eatery."

  • "Family in different parts of VA and NC so decided to meet up for dinner in Lynchburg. Read reviews of this restaurant and it was a nice fit. Easy to make reservations, food was excellent. Only trouble was hard to hear everyone at the table. I would definitely return."

  • "We go to Isabella's usually when we visit Lynchburg and have never been disappointed. We had never taken our grand kids (age 6 & 8) until this year. Not only is the menu kid friendly for the variety that they offer, but the service is the best kid friendly that I've seen just about anywhere. As for the adult side... the special food offerings are very unique as I had lamb shank with mushroom risotto as did daughter. Perfectly seasoned and cooked. My wife went with spiced shrimp, not the usual garlic shrimp, over pasta with olive oil. There's a nice wine list by the glass and bottle. And the barkeep knows how to make a Negroni!"

  • "a friend and i lunch at isabella's every so often and we are always pleased with the food and the service. my favorite lunch item is the seared salmon sandwich but i am always tempted by the daily specials. the ingredients are high quality and you can tell the chef cares about the food. i appreciate that many of the ingredients are from local farms. everyone is friendly and the servers are good at reading how much attention you need or don't need. we often linger after our meal and talk because we don't see each other that much and we never feel rushed to vacate the table."

  • "Isabella's is a great Italian restaurant and a wonderful find in a town the size of Lynchburg! The dishes are fresh and innovative. The parmesean-crusted-cod was perfectly cooked and beautifully served! LOVED IT!"

  • "We had a knowledgeable, attentive (not over bearing) waitress with a personality. Expansive wine list with a diverse Italian menu. Food was cooked as requested, priced appropriately. My husband claimed they had the best tiramisu since Italy. We will definitely be returning."

  • "My wife and I have been to Isabella's several times and have never been disappointed. Not spectacular, but food is consistently good and service is always excellent. A solid choice for a quiet dinner for two or a group of up to 10 in Lynchburg. Nice wine list, too."

  • "Very Nice: Ambiance on a foggy evening, candles on table were welcome Dipping bread was excellent as was the Balsamic vinegar and oil Two couples all had different menu items with pasta, greatly enjoying the entrees Seared scallops, garlic-encrusted shrimp, and mussels were all hits with us Not So Much Volume of Jazz music from a speaker aimed at our table Iced tea seemed a bit off-flavor, but as we were early diners, perhaps made earlier in the day. Our guests who love Italian food asked for a spoon for the pasta. Server was clueless as to why we would want that. Came back with something just a size larger than a teaspoon and said they had nothing larger. Also had never had a request for a large spoon to pick up and twirl pasta."

  • "We went to Isabella's while visiting our son at a local University. It was a fantastic meal! My rib eye steak was so tender that it melted in my mouth. My son and his friends ate every bit of pasta on their plates and even my picky husband was pleased with his salmon. Our service was impeccable and they even accommodated our last minute addition to our reservation's size. We will definitely be returning."
