Diner Reviews
  • "All three of us had wonderful entrees, the favors and presentation were awesome. The staff is very friendly and very knowledgeable of the menu. We will dine again there again "

  • "My first time there I had an incredible meal (duck) and was excited to return. I think I just ordered the wrong dish. Paparadelle with Fennel Sausage Meatballs. Flavor was so-so; the meatballs were a bit 'mushy' for me. I had the special soup - Potato Leek - it was good, but not great. Might try a third visit at some point."

  • "Service was very slow and the server forgot the salads for two of the guests. I never experienced this at this restaurant before. It was a topic of conversation at the table and we were all pretty disappointed."

  • "This has happened before in Open Table. I was not able to make a noon reservation through Open Table, so made one 15 minutes earlier. There were tables galore available at noon. What's up? Next time I will call the restaurant directly."

  • "A gem in Marin. The fatoush salad a choice not to be missed. the entrees each come with interesting flavoring creatively and exceedingly well done. It's not your usual place but one to encourage tastes that can be remembered though not copied. A fun evening for the palate. Highly recommended."

  • "i asked via open table for a table away from the door and got one near the door. i asked for coffee and waited long time to get it, (it was cold by the door). our dirty plates were left for us to stare at while we waited for a long long time to be asked for our dessert selections. lost appetite for dessert given lost time and irritation just wanted to go somewhere else to get a coffee and sweet with attentive service which was lacking here. valet parking ignored me so had to shop for parking in the community. i was embraced i suggested this place to my 3 friends who also suffered from the lack of parking attendants and lack of service."

  • "Always great food. The service was too fast--the food was thrown at us Server very congenial but this is not dining Usually we love this restaurant as one of Marin's best--please slow down!!!!! the prix fixe is really good.Wines ar enicely pared and the portions just right."

  • "Very good overall. Had a new menu item, shrimp nicoise salad which was excellent. Fatoush chicken salad also good. Some fine desserts too. Check out those home made cookies! Wow!"

  • "Since it opened many years ago, Insalatas has been my favorite restaurant. I have introduced countless friends to its charm and will continue to do so."
    Dined on 3/26/2014
  • "The 3 course prix fixe meal was superb. We started off with a tasty bruschetta, then a perfectly prepared super-delicious salmon, then a panna cotta dessert. Every course was fresh and tasty beyond delight. A meal from heaven!"

  • "I am a meat-n-potatoes kinda guy. This is not one of those places. The sauces and marinades were delicious and enhanced the meal. Fabulous cocktails amplified the experience. The service was great, and made the expensive meal worth every penny."

  • "Really surprised how good this was. The meze platter, lamb kofta and clams appetizer were fantastic."

  • "We had not been to Insalata's in quite awhile. Now we wonder why. We had a wonderful dinner and great service. The staff was friendly. We will not wait so long to return next time. Two of us had game hens and two had fish. All of us were happy with our choices."

  • "Menu is short and straight to the point. Excellent food and dessert."

  • "Insalata is one of my special go to places. The food is always good, the ambience is warm and welcoming, the staff is professional. The food and the menu at both lunch and dinner is well thought out and well prepared. But do not wait for a special occasion, it is a good place neighborhood - go anytime and you will not be disappointed."

  • "Love that we can now order a combination fattoush salad + soup or andwich at lunch! Always a home run when we dine at Inslata's!"

  • "I have re-found Insalata's. I find them a reliable A-, and that is great. I've been there twice over the last month, and everything I have had has been really wonderful. I had their flatiron steak -- it was great!"
    Dined on 3/4/2014
  • "Flavorful chicken and a perfectly prepared salmon were out main entrees. We shared the olives, hummus, and "cigars" as a starter--a tasty appetizer delight. Service was friendly and professional."
    Dined on 3/1/2014
  • "Delicious, we'll-prepared food. We had the Manilla clams, wonderful sauce and toasted bread. We both wanted more bread to soak up the sauce. The Fatoush salad was wonderful too and the soup of the night, a garbanzo and red pepper was very delicious. Service was attentive but not over-bearing. Quiet enough for good conversation."

  • "We really like they restaurant, however, you can get a bad table. First table was in the side room in the back corner...couldn't sit comfortably, because of a post right against chair. Asked to be moved which we were, to a table next to kitchen. Generally prefer upstairs or front room against wall."

  • "After living in Marin for 10 years we finally ate at Insalata's! Our only regret is it took us so long to get there. Everything was beautifully flavored and presented! Salads and entrees outstanding! Only disappointment was the "Pig in the Mud". Pretty ordinary chocolate pudding with a very hard shortbread cookie. Not worthy of the rest of the meal. Don't worry we will be back to try other desserts!"

  • "The pre fix meal had an exciting and flavorful component to each course! We were fortunate to experience a unique Morracan meal that had us leaving reexamining each course for days to come. Beat meal ever!"

  • "Having been here several times before, we were surprised at the poor regard for their customers this time. We arrived on time for our reservation and were summarily herded to the back of the restaurant with other diners (who were also on time). We were made to wait 45 minutes for our table with barely an apology (this happened to be Valentines Day: reservations were hard to come by, so we stuck it out). If this is Insalata's new attitude towards its customers, it's time to find a more friendly place."

  • "i would have rated the food and overall "outstanding", but the chef works her beautiful food much too rich for my personal taste. i am a very active/ big appetite individual who appreciates the creativity, freshness, nutritionally sensible items very much present in my selection (beef tenderloin/mashed potatoes, etc.), but somewhere the plate needed some richness relief."

  • "This was our first visit despite hearing about Insalada'a for years. We went for valentines day dinner and I can only describe it as chaotic. It was packed, busy with guests coming , going and blocking aisles. Our waiter barely had time to deliver the prix fix meal. The food was excellent but wine arrived after the course was completed. For the price, it was an unpleasant dining experience. We will try again on a regular night"

  • "I have had 6 or 7 great meals at Insalata over the years. This one did not match up but to give them the benefit of the doubt it was an EXTREMELY busy Valentine's Day. The food was still very good with excellent presentation and quality ingredients but with the prix fixe limited selection not as perfect as I expected, e.g. my duck was not quite as hot as I would like and perhaps a tiny bit overcooked. Wine list still quite good and without a huge markup and the wine pairings by the glass were very good. The major drawback to the evening was that our waiter was really quite perfunctory and didn't seem the least bit invested in enhancing our evening. The busboy on the other hand was terrific. I would still return based on prior visits."

  • "I love to dine at Insalata's. The food is terrific and frequently prepared in unique ways. The service is excellent, too."

  • "This is a "go-to" restaurant for me... dependably good food and service.. seasonal menu.. Heidi does an amazing job keeping the menu fresh and interesting, but not rotating out the "old favorites. This was a special occasion meal and we were not disappointed. I will continue to return to Insalata ."

  • "My father loved Insalata's, and we have gone there over he years for special occasions, such as birthdays and engagement celebrations in the family. On our most recent dining experience there, it did not disappoint us!"

  • "Lunch for two with a glass of wine each, no appetizer $30 including tip. I think that was a pretty good deal. I am not one to spend $30 dollars every time I go out to lunch, but I was meeting a friend and it was sort of a special occasion. The food is amazing and we both had the lamb. It didn't look like much at first but I could barely finish it all. Two skewers of lamb over greens with grape tomatoes and cucumber drizzled with yogurt sauce and flat-bread underneath. I look forward to trying the other items on the menu!"

  • "The staff was observant, generous and all around fun. We were first time diners and our meals were both delicious. Our server wholeheartedly encouraged dessert even though the restaurant was closing. The ambiance was cozy even though the space seems large. We look forward to going back!"

  • "Insalata's is always good. We've never had a bad experience there."

  • "Yummy meal, but overpriced. Pluses Mediterranean veggie platter, Orchietta with sausage and kale, fresh Sword fish. Weaker parts - carrot, squash soup (heavy with spice (cumin predominant) &crab salad was too heavily dressed to even taste the crab. The dressing was really yummy, just a waste of adding crab to the salad. Pricy at $24 for the fresh fish dish and $17 for a very small plate of Orchietta, So, pluses and minuses. Was good for a special occasion, but they may have priced themselves out of more frequent visits. And, I hope they read feedback on using more subtle dressing and spices so the flavors of the food come out."

  • "The food was really good as always. Service was a bit slow. I think they had more people than expected for a Monday."
    Dined on 1/13/2014
  • "We've eaten at Insalata's a couple of times and the other night the food was simply divine. The other times we've eaten there it was good. I had the blood orange and crab salad….wowsers…just perfect. My husband had their little rolls that are like samosas. They were quite tasty, the best part being the sauce. Then his pork dish and my chicken dish were scrumptious. Apple cobbler was very good and home cooking like. Not sure if the caramel sauce was needed. The space is nice enough. It always feels a bit cavernous to me. But, not bad."
