Diner Reviews

  • "One big pro: I almost never eat beef, but their filet is exquisite and not to be missed. One big con: Young woman working the front desk was generally rude to all."

  • "I was looking for a dinner place before the ballet performance and chose this place among Open Table options based on reviews. It was not bad but it was too average for San Francisco. No excitement at all! Waitress did not know to serve ladies first before taking care of guys, we asked 3 times for water to refill our glasses before it actually happened. Will explore other options next time in the City."

  • "Great place to dine before the symphony. The food is consistently good and it is not so crowded like the other restaurants around performance venues."

  • "My guest and I had another great meal experience at Indigo. I eat there often, and I am never disappointed."

  • "I have been to Indigo several times and my family and I really enjopy the well prepared food, attentive and helpful service and quiet ambience. Just right to begin a great night out"

  • "Acceptable for pre theatre. Food was average. Staff was prompt."

  • "We enjoyed our salads, salmon and swordfish. We were able to get a table away from most crowds. This was important to my husband, and they accommodated his request. I recommend."

  • "Very empty for a Friday night, long wait in between courses"

  • "Prix fixe meal available, but would be improved with broader selection of entrees. Good variety of main selections, and accompanying vegetables and sauces were excellent, No time for dessert, but that was our fault. Staff was attentive to our concert starting time."

  • "Indigo's convenient location to the Opera House, Davies, Herbst and Nourse make it a strong choice for pre-concert dining. Their menu is not too broad, but it includes good choices in each normal category (fish, vegetarian, beef, pork & chicken). Their pre-dinner fixed price meals are a great option to keep dinner for two around $70 before (bar and tip). Normally this place fills up on concert nights so book early."

  • "This was my first visit to Indigo and we went for an early dinner after attending the ballet. The service was wonderful. They were attentive but not too attentive so we felt like we were dining at our own pace but with timely service. This restaurant is now on our list of great spots for a pre-ballet or symphony dinner. It's within walking distance, the food was very good, and the wine paring was spot on. All in all a great find."

  • "Good food for half the price of other spots near the Opera House. We also brought a bottle of our own wine - no corkage :-) The staff is friendly and helpful without hovering. A nice alternative."

  • "We frequently go to Indigo before a ballet or symphony and always request a window table where the noise level is low. My husband has a severe hearing problem and has difficulty in many noisy restaurants. For the first time with Open Table, Indigo did not have our reservation in spite of the fact I had received a reminder and had a confirmation email. They were kind enough to find us a table squeezed in between two other tables. I could hear the conversations at the other two tables, but there was no way I could carry on a conversation with my husband. It was a very disappointing dinner, which we always look forward to as our "date night.""

  • "Everything was wonderful, as it always. The food was delicious, the service exceptional and the ambience nice. I eat there often, and I am never disappointed."

  • "We had a very nice dinner before attending a concert at Davies Symphony Hall. The menu was terse, but of high quality. Our only complaint was that they need to work on the wine list. Admirably, they try to have affordable bottles on the list, but the quality was iffy. Yes, a good place to go pre-theater/opera/ballet/symphony in SF. We would go again."
    Dined on 3/20/2014
  • "Room with a pleasant atmosphere, filled with theater-goers at the early dinner hour. We enjoyed our cocktails with a light dinner followed by coffee. Service was attentive and considerate of our need to leave early for the performance. The pork tenderloin was tender and the accompanying kale was well-prepared--a delicious combination."

  • "We have had consistently good meals here with friendly service and good ambience. I actually had a birthday party here and used the whole restaurant for a brunch which was wonderful."

  • "The location of this restaurant is excellent for attending the Symphony and the service was very good. The quality of the food preparation and menu selections were below average."

  • "We had dinner here prior to attending the City Arts and Lecture series at Nourse. The food was good, the service friendly and efficient, and the location perfect. We got out in time for our show with no sweat. Delicious dessert."

  • "Indigo is an excellent choice for dinner before event at Davies Symphony Hall or any of the venues in the area. Food was flavorful and well prepared with healthy choices. The quiet, attractive ambience was conducive to conversation. The service was attentive without being intrusive. We've enjoyed our dining experience at Indigo."

  • "Service was great. We had the chicken and the salmon, both dishes were excellent with vegetables and a starch- a complete tasty meal for a reasonable price. It is great to be able to bring your own wine with no corkage fee. Will go again, great for pre-symphony dinner."

  • "Great food and friendly service! I have already made my next reservation. The chicken was amazing and the apple tart incredible."

  • "Enjoy this restaurant, but the salmon and mahi were a little overdone and dry. The rest of our meals were delicious."

  • "Indigo is one of the neighborhood gems in the Civic Center. Well priced, with pleasant ambience, good food, and excellent service, I rank it 5 stars for what and where it is: one of a handful of restaurants where you can enjoy pre-opera, ballet and symphony dining , knowing your waiter will deliver both the coffee and your check in time for you to stroll over to the Opera House or Davies Hall in time to get to your seats without being rushed"

  • "The food was not to our liking. Parking is very difficult."

  • "Both my companion and I enjoyed the food and would return again. This is our second visit. Food server wasn't as attentive as I would have liked but that didn't detract from the delicious entree we ordered."

  • "Your web site invites people to "edit" their reservations, but it doesn't work. I wanted to change my reservation from 6 people to 4 people and all your site tried to do was make a NEW reservation, and none was available. So I couldn't let the restaurant know ahead of time. They were very gracious and it was no problem."

  • "The food at Indigo is always excellent, and I've been going there for years before the ballet. However, one of the things I appreciate most at Indigo is their flexibility. Unlike many restaurants who act affronted if you ask for any substitutions or deviations from the dish as described on the menu, Indigo always says "sure" and really seems to want the diner to have the best experience possible."

  • "I eat at Indigo often, especially before attending the Ballet. The food is delicious and the service is great! The ambience is nice and location is convenient."

  • "Saw this restaurant on Check Please Bay Area, food is very good, well thought out for tastes and textures, the desserts are excellent, and the Fixed Price menu is a great value. The Chef has a real interest in creating very good dishes for reasonable prices. The corkage policy is very generous, free if you spend a certain amount of money, $15 dollars if you have to pay. It is very convenient if you are going to Davies Symphony Hall and the staff caters to symphony patrons. Parking could be an issue but we got lucky and were able to park just down the street. The atmosphere was good but not exceptional. I would call Indigo a great local eatery at great pricing for what you get."

  • "We were there on Sunday, 2/16/14. There were very few tables occupied. The service was good, the food came fast and it was very good. The mushroom soup was good but could have been warmer, a common complaint of mine. I had the roast chicken which was quite good and my wife had the pork which was also good. We had the $35 3-course menu."

  • "It was our first time at this restaurant and we enjoyed the food and the wait staff very much! the port tenderloin was tasty and a generous serving. And even though we were full, the delicious dessert was irresistible (coffee flavored) The suggested wine pairing was perfect. Great location for eating before the Symphony! The only "complaint" would be the crowded dining. The tables were too close together and tables for 4 looked really cramped."

  • "We like to come here because they have no corkage fee, but the food is really good too. The menu is not too big, so it's easy to make a decision. The pork (served on a bed of polenta) was perfectly cooked, as was the beef fillet. Both were tender and flavorful as well. The mushroom soup was luke warm at best, but was still robust and delicious. Service was impeccable, and the staff was warm and friendly. Overall, a great dining experience, and perfect location for pre-concert meal."

  • "Chose Indigo because it is close to Davies Hall for our evening of symphony. Our group of five really enjoyed the food...salmon, beef filet, beet salad, appetizers. Don't know what was going on with our servers. Drinks not delivered on time; we had to ask for butter for our bread four times before it arrived! My husband had ordered the fixe prix dinner that included dessert and he waited for quite a while before having to ask where it was. The server replied, "Didn't the other server bring it? Well, it will be here soon." And, it took more time before it arrived. A shame about the service because we really enjoyed the food and would like to return the next time we go to Davies Hall."

  • "I dined at Indigo pre-Symphony last Saturday night. The food was good, as usual, however, the service was terrible. We had to ask four different times for our wine to be served after our food came. We ordered the wine with the food order and asked for it to be served with our dinner. The server never apologized when she finally brought the wine. We were never asked about our food. The menu hasn't changed from last fall. Based on service, i don't think i'll be returning."
    Dined on 2/15/2014
  • "Service was outstanding. however the food was just so so No wow factor, though you can not beat the value of getting a decent meal at the prix fixe rate. That in its self is a great deal"

  • "This is an outstanding restaurant in which to eat dinner before the opera or ballet. The staff is courteous and considerate; the food is nutritious and well prepared. One of my favorite places to eat in the city."
