Pleasant surpriseWe are a fan of Cohn Restaurants and have mourned the loss of Kemo Sabe since its closing. We found Indigo Grill when looking for a place in Little Italy that was a little different. Many of the items on the menu and the feel of the place are reminiscent of Kemo Sabe. The food was good, flavorful, imaginative and well presented. All in all a very nice dining experience.6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMUnique Food and lots of itBeing a vegetarian it's always hard to find unique food choices. Indigo Grill had some amazing choices. I loved the variety and creativity of their selections. Would definitely recommend.6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMDinner for 4 at our table.Dinner for 4 at our table. Serving sizes are very generous...entrée options outstanding.6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMIt doesn't get any better. My wife and I had a truly delicious experience at Indigo Grill on date night Tuesday. We had a bottle of French Pinot Noir with two entrees all for the unbelievable price of $39.99. The pecan crusted trout was one of the best fish dishes we have ever had and the shrimp dish was spicy and succulent. We sat outside and enjoyed watching the dynamics of the neighborhood. Our server, Amy, was friendly and attentive and we will definitely be going back.6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food presentation wasThe food presentation was fabulous! We had to post photos on Facebook before digging in! Delicious entrees, too much to consume at one sitting. We all took some home. Will definitely return for special occasions.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMUnique FoodI really enjoy the eclectic food here, it's unlike anything I've had at other restaurants. The pipian crusted Brie and alder wood plank salmon are my favorites. Portions are big, and I always have a great lunch the next day. Their corn pudding is amazing! Good service, outdoor (dog friendly) seating and nice atmosphere. Love it!6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMWill definitely go back nextWill definitely go back next time I'm in San Diego. Presentation is outstanding!6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat experienceGreat food and you have to try the pear martini. Very tasty!6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMHit the spot.We enjoyed our meals very much on the outdoor patio. They have a very interesting and creative menu, but we were not sure which items were gluten-free. Not a problem as we found out that they offer a gluten free menu. Service was very good. We will be sure to return.5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food. Will visit again.Ate here on my last trip to San Diego. The food tasted great and the dishes are unique. All around great experience.5/28/2013 12:00:00 AMWe took my Mom (and Dad) thereWe took my Mom (and Dad) there for her birthday and we all loved it! Everything about it was great!!5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMGREAT FOOD JUST TOO MUCH OF IT!I love the food but personally think the portions are too big. I like to enjoy an app, entree then desert but no way that can be done without sharing everything! Great flavors and presentation though.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMLove all things Deborah ScottWe are a long time resident of San Diego. We enjoy most of the Cohen restaurants & especially like the ones Deborah Scott is involved with. For some strange reason we had never tried Indigo Grill. We really, really liked it. First, they take reservations, second they have a valet, third it was just wonderful food. The energy of the staff is amazing. Be aware, the portions are very big. I had the tamales & they are too die for. They are a meal. The food is similar to C Level. Very spicy & different. It was epecially nice to see Deborah working at the restaurant. Good job. We will be back.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMI need to eat here more oftenMy wife and I don't tend to go out just the two of us very often, but when we do, Indigo Grill is our "can't miss" spot. Admittedly, we've only made our way through a small portion of the menu, but we've loved the Grilled Romaine and Pipian Crusted Brie appetizers. For entrees, our favorites are the Alderwood Plank Salmon, Pipian - Rojo Chicken Breast, Pork Porterhouse, and Flat Iron Chimichurri. If I ate there more often, I'd be able to explore more of the menu, but it's hard to pass on one of favorites when I'm only there every few months.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMawesome food and ambiance!love the unique menu, food incredible, waitstaff super friendly, great for romantic dinner or with a group of friends!5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMgood service recoveryMy meal was horrible and the staff were apologetic and concerned.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMIndigo Grill NEVER Disappoints! We've been here several times, and it remains one of our favorites. How often do you reflect the next day on how awesome dinner was?
From the brie appetizer, to our chicken and filet main courses, to the sinful desserts, this restaurant has got the formula down pat.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMMY FIRST TIMEThis was my first time and from the start the service was great. This is not your ordinary place to eat but the servers are very very helpful and know everything about the dishes they serve.HEATHER WAS GREAT. I will go there again. Great place5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMIndigo Grill was greatThe server was very nice and helpful. The food is abundant... A lot of food per dish. Two of us had one appetizer to share and one of the "Small Plates" (Lamb Shank) that we shared and it was still more than enough. Not only plentiful, but the food was well prepared, delicious and interesting. I would definitely go back.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat mix of menu itemsGlad to find a restaurant with so many GF options in San Diego. Shrimp skewers were a bit bland although the quinoa was quite good, but the butternut squash soup was excellent. Wine selection average. Worth a visit. Valet parking is a must. thankfully business district-sponsored valet located on corner of restaurant.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMCONSISTENTLY WONDERFUL!GOOD:
butternut squash soup!!!
COULD BE BETTER:
service (this time). Our server was new, so we understand his mistakes.
Previous service was spot on!5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMspecial bruch on Mother's Daythe brunch was excellent. The server was very responsive and the menu selection was great. Unfortunately, they only do a brunch once a year. It would be a gready place to take guests and family throughout the year.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGood, but not as good as beforeIndigo Grill is my family's go-to restaurant for many special occasions. This time though, the corn pudding (on 3 of our plates) was a disappointment. It didn't taste bad, but it was a lot drier than usual making it more like corn bread than corn pudding. Again, it didn't taste bad, it just didn't taste like it usually does. Our other food was good - especially the Kaffir Lime Duck.
Service was friendly, as usual, but our table was not cleared well between courses. For example, during our dessert course, we still had a lot of empty bowls and some utensils left on our table just moved over to the side rather than cleared off.
Would I return again? Yes. But I'm really hoping the other night was a fluke.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent! The mixture of flavors and blends of spicing was excellent and very interesting. The three of us all had different entrees and each was very good and interesting. I recommend this restaurant to all!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesomeThe good was spectacular. Hubby and I went there to celebrate Mother's Day a day early and it was our first time there. My sister recommended the place to us and we LOVED IT. I order the salmon and my husband ordered the porterhouse. We couldn't believe the portion size, they were huge.. The quality of the food was incredible. My favorite was the pasta.. I would definitely eat there once a month:)5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMCreative and deliciousFood and service were top notch. Very loud however. Four of us in a remote booth still had difficulty with conversation.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMIndigoGirlfriends favorite place so come here pretty regularly, good food and staff as always with some great drinks too.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMService is informalEverything about Indigo Grill was good. The food was really good. The environment was comfortable. We asked to sit outside because the open wood burning grill. The salmon is cooked to perfection in the grill. The young lady lacked the attitude and behaviors to match what the restaurant is trying to say about it self. Restaurant is looking to be high end with a reasonable price. The waitress was reaching over our plates, let plates accumulate on our table, and had us carry our own silverware when we moved tables. The informal approach by the waitress was not bad just not in line with what I expected. Sitting outside you experience not only the restaurant but the neighborhood. I'd go again but not for a special occasion.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMIn the top 5 . . .I was amazed at the quality of food and the reasonable prices. I will be coming back again and again5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was exquisite, theThe food was exquisite, the service outstanding, Although pricey, the quality and preparation of the food was well worth it.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMThe best birthday food everI will always recommend this place. I haven't ever eaten anything here that I didn't absolutely love!4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMThe cedar plank salmon isThe cedar plank salmon is excellent. This place never disappoints with their entrees or appetizers. Love it.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat restaurant in Little ItalyWe LOVE this restaurant! Try the butternut squash soup (you just need a cup, which is more like a bowl!) and the flat iron steak that comes with mango salsa, black beans, quesadilla and salad....delicious!! Thank you.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways eat at Indigo GrillAlways eat at Indigo Grill when we are in San Diego. Unique menu choices with conbination of entree and side dishes. Just hosted a party of seven. Everyone loved their dishes. Chef has won awards.4/15/2013 12:00:00 AMAlthough this is the firstAlthough this is the first time I have written a review on Indigo Grill, we have eaten at the restaurant many times. Our entrees were delicious and service was very good. There was a problem in the kitchen. Our friends received their entrees first and our entrees arrived 15 minutes later. We could see our server talking to the chef. She wasn't happy about the delay in serving our entrees, but was very professional when she spoke with us. We were celebrating a birthday and she brought everyone a delicious (complimentary) dessert. It was a thoughtful way of compensating for the entrees arriving at different times. We will return. We have never been disappointed in our entrees and service. This can happen, but hopefully very rarely.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was very good and serviceFood was very good and service was great! Good place for a special occasion with a small group.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMThe wife and I went here forThe wife and I went here for a "date" night. We have been here before. The food tasted terrific. However, both my chicken and wife's duck were overcooked. That was unusual, as that was not true for other visits. We really appreciated our server who helped make our experience there better. We would still recommend Indigo to all our friends.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMWe come here often and alwaysWe come here often and always have a great time. It is our first choice for taking friends and especially out of town visitors, they all have raved about the food. The brie appetizer, corn pudding and the salmon with squid ink pasta are outstanding but everything has been enjoyable.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways excellent!Had an awesome dinner as always. The Good Things Growing is my favorite dish there. The rest of our group had rainbow trout, the filet, and pork ribs. They were all excellent. Our waitress was excellent too.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMFood absolutely delicions..ServiceFood absolutely delicions..Service professional and efficient3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMCreative and DeliciousWe flew through San Diego on a recent trip to California. Indigo Grill was rec. by a friend for its creative dishes. We ate there soon upon arrival and liked it so much we visited again before leaving for home so that we could taste more. From drinks to appetizers to entrees to desserts -- we enjoyed everything. The brie appetizer, crusted with sesame & pumpkin seeds and served with mole, roasted garlic, and pepper jelly was excellent! The Indian corn pudding was another favorite.3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMWe got the brie as a starterWe got the brie as a starter and it was great. The "Good Things Growing" (veggie platter) entree was truly special, especially the Indian corn pudding. The salmon w/ squid ink pasta was also delicious. I was too happily stuffed for dessert, but next time...3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMThe restaurant was a greatThe restaurant was a great place for dinner prior to shows at Old Globe. Good flavor to the food and interesting combinations.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMWe took advantage of the fabulousWe took advantage of the fabulous night to sit outside, which was comfortable thanks to the heat lamps!
