For nearly 35 years, Il Mulino New York has prepared authentic Abruzzese cuisine with unparalleled service.

There’s no place like Il Mulino New York. The luxury Italian restaurant’s flagship Greenwich Village outpost initiated New York’s fine Italian dining trend and is still prized in the city’s elite dining scene. Zagat has rated Il Mulino New York as Manhattan’s No. 1 Italian restaurant for decades and has said the restaurant provides "one-of-a-kind" cuisine filled with delicious flavors, creating an "outstanding Italian classic" restaurant where "every dish is a masterpiece."

Executive Chef Michele Mazza, who hails from Naples, Italy, has proudly carried this tradition since 2003. Fresh ingredients, artistic preparation and impeccable service distinguish Il Mulino New York as one of the world’s premiere restaurants. In addition to fine dining, Il Mulino New York provides excellent off-site catering and products.

Diner Reviews
  • "The food was absolutely delicious and the service was perfect! We will definitely go again!"

  • "We have heard about Il Mulino, well, forever, it seems, but never wanted to deal with the lines or the prices. When we saw it offered on Restaurant Week, we jumped at the opportunity, and so glad we did! Right from the very beginning, the tasty crudites, bread and piece of fine parmigian cheese set the tone for the tasty food to come. The meal was delicious, the service impeccable, and the tiny room very intimate and romantic. We each got different items so that we could taste each other's, and everything was equally delicious. It was obvious that many in the room were 'regulars', which is always a good sign. We will definitely keep Il Mulino in our address book for special occasions to come."

  • "Food was tasteless and not appealing to the eye. The main course was served without a side dish and the veal was a gastronomical turn off. The second glass of wine we ordered was not the one we received and there were noticeable pieces of cork and resedue in it. The service was not professional yet amicable. We will not go back nor will we recommend the restaurant to others."

  • "This place remains one of the great rest in New York. After all these years they still act like this is the first day and they want to get that great review."

  • "Il Mulino is a first-class restaurant. Even on Restaurant Week, it treats its customers with respect, good service, and good food! It is strongly recommended."

  • "Decided to bring the in-laws for a taste of something great, during resturant week, unfortunately "Open Table" allowed me to book a diner when this resturant only participates at lunch ( through the resturant week website)! The wait staff, and manager, were very gracious, and made suggestions to keep our check close to what we might have paid at the resturant week prices, and then WOWed us with some free super deserts. Our West Coast family got to see some East Coast hospitality and class, at a wonderful "Upper East Side Resturant" that lives up to its reputation!"

  • "We went last year and our lunch was great, that's why we decir to go back this year. But we were disappointed, the entrees were bland and very little food without a side dish."

  • "Best Restaurant Week meal ever. Great and varied menu selections, plentiful and delicious food."

  • "Had lunch for 2 during restaurant week, well worth it! (free) Cold antipasto: roasted zucchini excellent; bruschetta with tomatoes very good, short rib ravioli was excellent, caprese salad was good, veal marsala was very good."

  • "The maitre'd, captain and all the servers were very helpful and attentive. We went for restaurant week and were served cheese, salami and an assortment of breads before we even got our menus. The portions were adequate but small, and the chocolate cake was delicious. I highly recommend the short rib ravioli. If you go, I highly recommend going during restaurant week!"

  • "The food was spectacular, the service impeccable - we couldn't fault this amazing restaurant! Would certainly recommend the place to all our friends and family."

  • "This was our second visit over the course of a week or so and while the menu had not changed, we were able to taste the consistency of the kitchen. Aside for quite possibly the most miserable person sitting next to us and who insisted on interrupting our meal incessantly, we loved the experience and would return in a heartbeat. The wines are reasonably priced and marry well with the food selections. The flourless chocolate cake is possibly more enjoyable than Gotham's. Definitely give them a try if you can get a reservation."

  • "Definitely the best Restaurant Week value there is. Amazing!"

  • "Il Mulino is simply the best Italian anywhere. Wonderful food, great service nothing better. We are talking the Village Il Mulino not to be confused w other Il Mulino locations. This is the original and the best. Ahh the breadsticks, do not see a favorite on the menu or in the specials , no problem. If I get to heaven I want St Peter to direct me to W 3rd Street."

  • "We ate Lunch during Restaurant Week and were pleasantly surprised by the offerings on the menu. The choices were solid and the service was impeccable. You would have excused them a few slips given the crammed waiting area, full bar counter and full dining room. However, they did not miss a beat and we enjoyed the short rib ravioli, Snapper substituted for the Orata and the Veal. We opted for the flourless chocolate cake which I think I just might have enjoyed more than the one at Gotham. Decent wine options by the glass and they do not skimp on the pour. Overall made me want to return and we will certainly check il Mulino out for dinner in the near future as should you."

  • "A great Italian restaurant. Our second visit in 3 weeks and the food, service, and ambiance was just as great as on our first visit. This time my wife had the summer restaurant menu. She had the caprese salad, chicken martini, and the poached pear. I ate off the regular menu and had the fantastic artichoke hearts wrapped in bacon and cooked in a butter sauce. Portion was such you could have had it as a main course. My main was capellini with spicy marinara sauce. Captain told me the sauce was not too spicy so he brought me a bowl of spices to add if I wanted it spicier. I did add the spices and it made it even better. By this time I was full so had a few bites of her poached pear. For wine we had Pinot Grigio. Very very highly recommended."

  • "Visited for restaurant week. What a bargain to enjoy the fine meal at $25 for lunch. Appetizer, entree and dessert all perfectly prepared. While a steal at $25, also enjoy this restaurant throughout the year. always a consistently great meal and experience."

  • "Il Mulino is a wonderful place to go to if looking for gastronomical, traditional Italian food. One area however where the restaurant suffers a bit from others at this price point is in terms of ambiance, as the room with tables is a bit boring and certainly could use a bit of more excitement to compete."

  • "Il Mulino has not skipped a beat in all these years. Food is fabulous. I had one of their specials, lobster over pasta. Yum yum. Great presentation and fabulous tasting. Service was impeccable. Always consistently a winner."

  • "Came here for Restaurant Week. The food was amazing! Everything was quite tasty and the portions were well-sized for me. I particularly loved the veal. I wish I had been given more time to work on the appetizer, though."

  • "The food is superb. They give you lots of extras--bread, cheese, zucchini. My only problem with this restaurant is the staff. They couldn't wait to take the dishes away, and the wine glass; you have to guard your food from the assault. We went for Restaurant Week--if they don't want you there, they shouldn't participate. Seemed like they couldn't wait to get us out."

  • "This is really an outstanding restaurant and one of the best in NYC. The food is outstanding and the service is as well. This was our first visit and we had the summer restaurant week lunch. Superb caprese salad and lentil soup for starters and excellent veal Marsala and chicken martini for the main courses. Both dishes superb. For dessert we had poached pear and flourless chocolate cake. This restaurant is always very hard to get a reservation and now I can understand. Food service and ambiance make it a must. It is small and you are never rushed. So go but book well in advance. You will absolutely love it"

  • "excellent service, good portions except dessert was a little skimpy"

  • "The pasta was in general too salty, and we actually needed the Spaghetti Carbonara to be remade due to its excessive saltiness. The waiter was "kind" enough to offer us half-portion for 4 different types of pasta dishes ($16/half-portion vs. $27/full-portion) without telling us the additional costs in advance. It's perfectly OK if he informed us of such costs early on. We complained about it and the waiter gave us some attitude before adjusting the check for us. Overall, one should expect more from IL MULINO. Our dining experience there was not too pleasant."

  • "This is our third time dining at one of the Il Mulino restaurants. The service and food was outstanding. Everything we had we ate was great and the head waiter treated us like we were his family. I don't know how you could have a better meal."

  • "Had not been here in years; sadly they're costing on their reputation. Great freebies (zucchini, garlic bread, etc) but that doesn't make up for an overcooked $75 Dover sole (ala carte) or a tasteless $50 osso bucco. Disappointing overall. At half the price my review would be the same."

  • "Had to downgrade this little Village gem as the grilled octopus was absolutely terrible as it wad chewy beyond edible. Complained and they made a slight adjustment to the check as I we tried to eat part of the serving. Clearly, the quality has slipped as it should not have been served. In fairness to the kitchen's other efforts, I can report that other courses of our multi-course meal were up to standard. Service by captains was New York brisk and rote. Pleased with the young servers as they were far more enthusiastic and watchful of the room, while captains seemed to cluster at rage corner of the bar to chat among themselves."

  • "Noteworthy Italian, .. my Veal Chop Milanese was special, even more so when paired with attentive and very engaging staff. The endless appys and great selection of Italian wine almost made me pass on the Veal, glad I didn't. "
