  • "Dined here with my gf and overall had a nice experience. We shared a salad to start & both ordered a glass of pinot noir. The wine was too warm; it wasn't kept in a wine cooler which is surprising for a restaurant of this caliber. We had the cowboy steak & salmon. My salmon was a little overcooked but was good. My gf enjoyed her steak. The presentation for both were very good. Our server was excellent, very friendly. However, my gf asked the food runner for some pepper for her steak. He returned with a large pepper mill but instead of adding the pepper to her steak he handed her the pepper mill, which was odd. Even with the few quirks I recommend this restaurant if you're looking for something upscale with a nice décor and ambiance."

  • "Outstanding, service was outstanding we ordered: Scallops, Steak, Sword Fish and Lobster Ravioli (The Lobster Ravioli was lacking Lobster) Based on every thing else on the main course we would try it again just stay away from the Ravioli. There appetizers, and dessert were great. This is a MUST TRY RESTAURANT if you are in the area."

  • "This was our first visit to the restaurant and it did not disappoint. The 3 of us ordered the price fix since we were there between 4:40-6:00. Every course was delicious. The price fix also included to glasses of the wine of your choice. This is a fine dining restaurant for special occasions since it is a bit pricey. But I don't mind paying more for quality. The service was as good as the food."

  • "Just a LOVELY evening all the way around. The restaurant is beautiful - inside and out. All of the service staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. We sat in the "piano" area and it was surprisingly not too loud and provided the right amount of back ground entertainment without taking away from a fabulous meal. We had the pan roasted local fish - which was black grouper - with crab and asparagus. Absolutely fantastic and not too rich. Will make this a MUST DO every time we go back to Sanibel."

  • "The food was great -- even if you're not a vegetarian, I'd recommend the chef's vegetarian inspiration as it was amazing. Husband had appetizers from the happy hour menu and all were tasty as well. Server was friendly and took good care of us. We will definitely go there again whenever we visit Sanibel."

  • "A wonderful experience at a great value price for their pre fixe meal package served until 6:30pm. You get an appetizer, soup or salad, entrée and TWO glasses of house wine for $38. Walter provided excellent and attentive service. Marcus was a very gracious and accommodating host. Lovely ambience and great menu choices. Definitely a keeper for our annual Sanibel treks!"

So good in fact that we returned the second night of our stay in Sanibel."

  • "This is a must visit restaurant on Sanibel. The waiter and entire staff was very attentive, with atmosphere warm and cozy. The chef came out to our table to personally greet us, and then came out again to make sure our food was cooked to perfection. The meal was excellent, and our 5 year old grandson was with us, and they treated him like royalty. There is food for all taste in a fine dining experience, with a very nice selection of wine. We will return."

  • "This was one of these meals I've ever had. The food service and cocktails were all unbelievable! Walter our server was impeccable! His menu knowledge and friendliness couldn't have been better. Even the host greeted us in a way that we felt was so rare as he was so polite and friendly. The appetizers were to die for and the meals were flawless. The dessert was new and is one I will crave from now on. The staff, chef and bartender should all be well aware of the excellence in what they do. Please share this with the restaurant."

  • "The restaurant is very pretty, a lot of thought went into the decor. The food was very good. In all an enjoyable experience except that the waiter was unpolished I his serving. If you are going to run the type of restaurant where the ordered bottle of wine is kept on ice away from the table that ordered it you must teach your waiters to check on whether the customer's glass is empty. In two instances we asked a passing wait staff person to fill our glasses not our waiter who never checked on us. And it wasn't until we flagged him down that we got to finish our wine, this was very annoying and made the experience less than the 5 stars it would otherwise deserve. Walter was our waiter."

  • "Had the pleasure of being Il Cielo's last table of the night and the food was absolutely wonderful - The off season on Sanibel can be a little quiet but it's nice to see that Il Cielo is still hard at work and hasn't let their standards slip. We had 2 orders of the crisp duck wings (which were in fact, crisp- and absolutely delicious). We also had the heirloom tomato / caprese salad. The tomatoes were delicious but the mozzarella wasn't anything special. The white bean chili was *superb*. The lobster ravioli was incredibly light and served in a tangy sun dried tomato sauce that bordered on too citrus-y. The warm spice roasted lamb ribs were perfectly braised and seasoned. As a rib connoisseur they surpassed my expectations!"

  • "It has been a good number of years since my wife and I came to a meeting on Captiva. I did my usual Open Table search and chose two restaurants that each turned out to be terrific. My wife ordered the escargot and I started with the mussels. Both dishes were wonderful! My wife had the rack of lamb and took advantage of the ability to do the small order of two chops. She said the lamb was delicious. I had the special yellowtail snapper with steamed shrim on top of asparagus spears and lobster ravioli. The sauce was piccata with butter, wine and capers and made the dish spectacular. We shared the sticky toffee pudding for dessert and it was as good as I have ever tasted. We will return to Il Cielo whenever near Sanibel."

  • "Whoo hoo! OMG. A lemon drop during happy hour. Mussels in wine garlic sauce with fennel, a veggie soup, 2 glasses if incredible California Pinot and grouper with blue crab sauce with sweet potatoes and vegetable medley and asparagus. Toffee cake with whipped creme and some kind of wonderful sauce for dessert!! Whoo hoo! I think we hit the jackpot at the IL Cielo restaurant for our night out on the town!! "

  • "Our dinner reservations were for 6:00 so we enjoyed their special value for early diners. Their speciality drinks were fun and excellent. We recommend the Cucumber Mohito and Old Fashioned. We had never had mussels before and ordered them for the appetizer. Our waitress, Lorraine, who was very attentive and helpful, must have told the chef I had never had mussels before. He came to our table and told me how to eat them and chatted with us about how his family enjoys them. The mussells were delicious and we will have them again! We had the black grouper which was fantastic. There was a pianst and he was outstanding. We had a very fun and memorable night. Of the 4 restaurants we visited on Sanibel, this was our favorite."

But I had to pass along what a treat it was to discover Il Cielo. It was by far our best dining experience in the area. My wife and I were looking for a quality restaurant that offered great ambiance and food at a reasonable price--and our experience at Il Cielo easily surpassed every expectation! We both ordered the Prix Fixe menu and were simply blown away by the exceptional food quality, service, and overall value. The creations by Neil, the CIA Chef, and the chocolate dessert created by his wife, a Pastry Chef, were extraordinary! It is a true neighborhood gem! "

  • "My husband & I first dined here a year ago. There are 2 dining areas, we chose the formal area & dinner menu. The food is priced a little higher than some other area restaurants, but not out of line with other upscale restaurants in Sanibel. We loved our meals the first time and were not disappointed this time either. My husband had a steak which was perfectly cooked and I opted for the local fish which was grouper for the night. It was served with blue crab, asparagus and a squash purée. The favors blended perfectly together. We ordered 2 desserts. The chocolate covered mousse was excellent. The almond tart was just OK. With 2 appetizers (seafood chowder & vegetable barley, both great) & 2 cocktails our tab came to $140 before the tip. "

  • "This was our first dinner at El Cielo although we have tried many of the other restaurants on Sanibel. El Cielo is a fine dining experience compared to the more casual places Sanibel has to offer. As such, we expected fine cuisine and got it! The prix fixe dinner served before 6:30 pm is an especially good value for the quality and choice of offerings. It includes two glasses of wine per person and enables a switch from white to red, or the other way around. The risotto was very well prepared and held its consistency - this is often difficult to pull off in a restaurant kitchen. The only disappointment was the salad - the lettuce was somewhat brown around the edges and wilted, an easy fix with a little more attention paid to it."

Our waiter, Walter, was very nice and gave good service without being intrusive. This is a very good choice on Sanibel and not too expensive.   • "We decided to take advantage of the open table special: $38 for 3 course Prix fixe with 2 glasses of wine included. This is available until 6:30pm only and is probably close to a 50% savings. Each course was carefully prepared and presented and all 4 of us loved our choices. We each added dessert & coffee (not included) which were amazing. New chef and their own inhouse pastry chef are really outdoing themselves. Don't hesitate to give this spot a try. We passed on the craft cocktails but they were also really appealing. We live outside Philadelphia so we are pretty sophisticated diners who were traveling with older parents. Everyone left happy and that's saying a lot!"
