A word from Hugo's Frog Bar & Fish House - Chicago
After years of searching far and wide for a location to open the follow-up restaurant to the highly successful Gibsons Bar & Steakhouse, owners Hugo Ralli and Steve Lombardo found what they were looking for right under their noses. In February of 1997 they launched the seafood companion to the Chicago legend they had created with Gibsons and named it Hugo's Frog Bar & Fish House. The restaurant is dedicated to the same principles as its predecessor, unbelievable portions, value and quality coupled with memorable service. Continued

  • "I brought my parents here to celebrate their 51st anniversary and they loved it. We sat outside, which was perfect. But we all 3 commented on going in to use the restrooms that it was WAY too cold inside and we were very glad we were sitting outside. I know we would not have had such a great dining experience if we sat inside and were miserably cold. I hope the restaurant reads this and changes the temperature....turns down the freezing cold air conditioning. It's also much louder inside...so again, would be a totally different dining experience if my 73 year old parents were sitting inside. Pretty sure they wouldn't have liked it as much."

  • "We normally hit our usual spots for dinner when we are downtown Chicago (Gibson's, Carmine's, Tavern on Rush), always walked past Hugo's but never tried it. We finally did last Friday and we are glad we did. Both the food and the service were outstanding. Our waiter Art was extremely accommodating and attentive. Hugo's is now on our preferred list of places to eat in downtown Chicago."

Although our waiter was pleasant and our orders were correct, I think he may have forgotten about us as there were long periods when we were left with empty drinks and plates and he was nowhere in sight. Tables near us were served and cleared. Our drinks took inordinately long to get to us. A special request made in advance about my friend's birthday was forgotten - but our waiter did comp dessert to make up for it."

The waitress brought him three complimentary shrimp (shrimp cocktail) since the steak was not prepared properly while he was waiting on his order. Another steak was served that was very rare (not medium rare) but he ate it anyway since it was getting late. When the bill arrived at our table, he was charged for the shrimp!!!!"

  • "Came here for National Oyster Day with a large group reservation - we were seated 45 minutes later. Despite this setback, we were taken very good care of. Food came out in a timely manner, raw oysters were good, Rockefeller were not overcooked or oversauced, just right. Alaskan king crab mac n cheese was too watery for me, would prefer the sauce to be more baked."

We were able to sit outside after a 20 minute wait, we enjoyed the piano player and a glass of wine while we waited. Our server was very busy but he was very attentive to our table as he was to other tables near us. We expected this because who wouldn't want to turn down that awesome offer of $1 oysters?!?!?!?"

  • "National oyster day was amazing!! And the service was impeccable. Only downer was one of the two raw oyster options were sold out when we sat down for our reservation (6pm), which was a little bit of a let down, but the other oyster option was amazing. Only other down point was that there was a very loud table of of 5 right next to us (literally inches away that our elbows touched) and it made dining with my partner a little tense, it was just hard to speak and hear. But overall, a great experience and we will for sure be back again!"

  • "Used to be a regular here but havent been in a while. Went for National Oyster Day since they were having specials. They had two varieties of raw oysters, but ran out of one at 6pm. How does that happen? We had four different servers and still couldn't get the right salad until the bus boy helped us. They left the raw seafood sampler plate on the side of our booth - so unappetizing. Seated two huge groups near us and we didn't have room to leave our booth. At least pretend you are glad we are there."

Place was packed we made reservation and glsd we did . Piano man JT was good but no one sang along with him or made and request ..Was very boring place. Beware drinks expensive $15 martini .The food we had was good but so over priced for the amount and quality we received. NOT WORTH IT .."

  • "We really enjoyed our meal here. We have lived in the area for 8 years and for some reason did not go to this restaurant. Friends visited and went there and told us about it. We loved our whole experience. Sat in the back more secluded room and enjoyed that area as opposed to wider spaces with lots of activity and noise. Our food was delicious as were our drinks (martini and wine). This is one place we will certainly return, often."

Had the best waiter in Chicago- Ron- but the food here is too formulaic and tourist friendly and the portions are outrageously large especially dessert. Food is not flavorful or fresh tasting. Time for a menu redo. But the staff and the timing of the meal was exceptional, and the staff should really be commended. Nice wine list. Lots of birthday groups-thank you for not singing the whole Happy BD thing- your team shout out is much more fun!"

  • "My husband and I were there for our anniversary, excited to try dishes for our first visit. The sword fish and mash potatoes were really good with the sautéed spinach. Our server, Scott did a great job and was very professional as well as knowledgeable. I look forward to visiting Hugo's Frog again to try the salmon with plum sauce."

  • "Made a reservation at 7:00 PM for 7 people. We arrived and was told it would be just a few minutes until our table was ready. Waited 20 minutes and checked to be told again just a few minutes. After 45 minutes of waiting--the Manager did offer us complimentary appetizers (at the bar) which was difficult to enjoy as it was very crowded. Finally was seated at 8:00 PM. Food was delicious but shouldn't of had to wait over an hour to be seated."

He had a different server bring a moist napkin to her in an attempt to clean the oil from her dress. Needless to say, a white moist napkin on a black dress did not do the job."

  • "Visiting from N.Y my wife and I were looking for a place to celebrate our anniversary and decided on Hugo's after much research with reviews. We arrived a few minutes early and were seated right away and our server Rosemary was great. She explained menu and our drinks came shortly after and we started with frogs legs and escargot which were perfect. Dinner was a crab cake entrée and a shrimp dish that were both delicious. The restaurant was busy but we felt like we were Rosemary's only customers , the service was great. A great evening and experience."
