A word from Huber's Restaurant
Established in 1879, Huber's is Portland's Oldest Restaurant. It was originally called the "Bureau Saloon". Mr. Huber was involved from the beginning as a bartender, bought out the original owner then changed the name to Huber's.
In the old days if you bought a drink you got a free turkey sandwich. This is how the turkey tradition started. Today Huber's cooks 150 lbs of turkey a day. It's Thanksgiving everyday at Huber's serving a traditional turkey dinner every day. We also serve Certified Angus Beef and fresh seafood. Huber's is also known for its famous Spanish Coffee. The drink is made table-side with great fanfare. It's is a lot of fun and very tasty. Come in and enjoy Old Portland at its best.

Diner Reviews
  • "Huber's is always a great place to eat with delicious food and a great menu to select from. The waitress was outstanding. Best [place to eat in the city! The bar tender puits on a spectacular show when you get a Spanish Coffee. "

  • "Hubers has a wide variety of food. It is a great place for drinks and dinner. It was also fun watching the bartender make there spanish coffee."

  • "Used to go to Hubers a lot many years ago. Great food, lively atmosphere and fun drinks. No more. It wasn't really even busy and the service was very poor. Did not at all feel like a "nice" restaurant. Felt old and dirty. The Turkey is still great, but the Halibut in some cream sauce tasted like wet cardboard. Won't go again."

  • "We have been eating at Huber's for years and years.... Our son worked there as a bartender in his early years, and we have always felt at home there. We love their Spanish Coffee's and Beer Bread. Mushrooms are in the top three! My mom and I had the salmon and it was delicious. My husband loves the turkey dinner and always has that.... Rest of our group had all sorts of their food. Had a great time before the Broadway series and will go back again!! Love this restaurant!"

  • "Have been going to Huber's for over 40 years and it is always wonderful. The service is fabulous and friendly (not stuffy and overly formal) the fun is very good and they continue to add new dishes while keeping the tried and try that have made them famous. I love taking out of towners here because it is always enjoyable. Jimmy makes the rounds and makes sure everyone is being well cared for ......oh and did I mention the Spanish Coffees ")"

  • "The server suggested the halibut and it was dry and tough. My step daughter's steak was delicious but my husband's was just ok. We were not happy with the overall evening at all."

  • "Regret giving you unfavorable review -- previous visits have been very positive. Noise level where we were seated was almost painful. On previous visits we have been seated in front area away from bar, and were able to carry on conversations -- on this occasion, IMPOSSIBLE. Would not have stayed in this particular area Saturday evening had we known this. The service was less than expected, but it appeared that you may have been understaffed. We had to ask for silverware, napkins, and water, and had to grab our drinks and half-eaten appetizers to keep them from being removed. This also may have been attributed to the intense noise level. Food was excellent, and timely served. If you wish a complete review, please provide adequate space"

  • "I had the Salmon Caesar "salad" and it was delicious and more like a dinner portion at lunch. Earlier in the week I had the New York Steak Salad it also was excellent. The food is always top rate and the service was outstanding. Two had the half and half which is another favorite and one had the Turket Rueben sandwich. We had a great time. Thank you."

  • "Although our server appeared to be mentally distracted and not focused on his job, the food was well worth the mediocre service. I would happily return to eat at this establishment!"

  • "We had excellent service and the food was outstanding. As always the Spanish Coffee was a delight. This has to be Portland's finest! Good for the romantics also because the decor is inviting to the eye. Thank you!"

  • "My wife and I went to Huber's on our anniversary - For the pure fact that this is Portland's oldest restaurant, it's a must see - the food was excellent, everything from the smoked salmon appetizer to the "three-course special of the day" to the bread pudding - and of course, everyone must experience their Spanish Coffee - the presentation is memorable."

  • "We ate there at 8pm on a weeknight. The restaurant itself is beautiful, but it was so noisy that we had to yell to be heard by each other, and the waiter got some orders wrong (rare instead of medium rare, mussels instead of mushrooms, etc), presumably because it was so hard to hear. We were there to celebrate, and three of us ordered steak. Of the three steaks, one seemed fine, but the other two were exceptionally fatty, poor cuts of meat, where a great deal of the steak was pure gristle and fit only to be left on the side of the plate. Very disappointing. The service was nice, and the flaming coffee drinks were impressive. I'd eat here again - but I certainly wouldn't order a steak here again."

  • "We enjoyed the famous Huber's Spanish Coffee and the staff was nice enough. However, we were seated in the middle of the room and had a very hard time trying to visit with our out of town guests we brought. I would prefer the dining room next time. I choose the bar area to see more of the Spanish coffee demonstrations, but in hindsight, would have preferred the more sophisticated ambiance of the dining room."

  • "Great spot for couples, groups and out of town guests. We like to enjoy Huber's before a concert or just for a night on the town!"

  • "Their steaks rival some of the best steak houses I have visited. Those of us that did not order steaks, were all pleased with the quality and taste of our selections. The waitress was slow paced, but we never felt rushed. Our water glasses never dipped below half. The gentleman that made our Spanish coffees put on an amazing show! Overall, I would give this restaurant one of my highest ratings."

  • "A co-worker and I visited for lunch today...and we both had the Fish and Chips being served for St Patrick's Day. The fish was crisp on the outside and tender on the inside. The chips were tasty--as was the cole slaw. There is nothing like the historic bar, which is where we sat. She had never been there before and she said she would be back to bring her family and parents. Our server, Yoko, was attentive and professional. She did an excellent job. I'll be back!"

  • "Delightful space - lots of old world charm! But, quite noisy. One of the best ribeye steaks that I have ever consumed, and my wife thoroughly enjoyed her turkey dinner."

  • "A rite of passage for native Portlanders. Dating back to the late 1800s, this place is a timeless landmark echoing a rich history. Lots of turkey dishes available but a great variety of other dishes, too. Great food all in all with excellent service. Order a Spanish coffee, which they're known for, even if only for the entertainment value."

  • "We have been going to Hubers for years. For some reason, the past 5-8 times---when we order the turkey menu items, we end up with turkey so tough you can't chew it. This last visit was the same. The server was excellent but didn't question why 3 of the people had nearly full plates when he gathered their plates as he bussed the table. His only question was---did you save room for dessert? The restaurant was not busy--so our service was excellent. This complaint is not an incident---its a pattern"

  • "The dining room 'up front' provided the perfect setting for an anniversary dinner. Lively and energetic without being quite as 'jumping' as the main dining room, the food is just as good on either side. And it is very good. Never forget the artisans of the Spanish Coffee who bring a real flair for the dramatic to your after-dinner drink. Friendly staff, great old setting in one of the longest-operating restaurants in the area. Huber's is a Thanksgiving tradition, but has a great deal to offer on any night of the year."

  • "From the street Huber's appears to be a small bar or café, but once inside it opens into a large restaurant. We had the filet mignon and the smoked salmon fettucine. That was the best filet you could find as you could cut it with the serving knife and it melted in your mouth. Try a Spanish coffee!!! Great service too."

  • "The three of us had an excellent lunch. Great food, superb service. Two of us had the oyslers and shrimp and one had the half and half. All of us were very pleased. We love Huber's!"

  • "We had reservations and arrived 30 minutes early and were seated early. Although an energetic and noisy room, we were seated at a private table for 2 in a little nook and still found it to be romantic. Love the architecture and ambience. The food is outstanding. I had the turkey 3-course meal; my husband had steak. Both dinners were exceptional. The prices are reasonable; service is outstanding. A true Portland institution which I highly recommend."

  • "When I originally booked the reservations, based on a recommendation from A rating webpage, I was severely disappointed in our planned romantic dinner on Valentines Day. The steak I ordered was dry, poorly seasoned and extremely fatty. The vegetables were sub-par, definitely poor seasoning. The mashed potatoes were disappointing. They were thin and lacked flavor. Fred Meyers has offered a better product. Our server was fine, but our food was severely disappointing... When we mention our experience to other people, they are surprised because they thought it was a good restaurant. Overall, my wife and I were excited, but were left with a disappointing experience."

  • "I took my grandma there to celebrate her 84th birthday. My grandpa and her use to dine there frequently 3-4 times a month. She indicated that the food quality was still excellent but was disappointed at the unprofessional service, we had Spanish coffees and albeit delicious the glasses were very sticky which was disappointing when that's what your establishment was known for. Server acted as if we were bothering her maybe she was having a bad night who knows. My grandma inquired about Dan and jimmy and Dan came out and said hello it took him a minute but he recognized grandma, they had catered her 64 th birthday so like I said she has a historical perspective. Food was outstanding but like my grandma said you can tell times are changing"

I ordered the beef stroganoff and my companion ordered the seafood pasta. The service was outstanding, as was the food. I will come here again and again."

  • "This is my third time at Huber's. I took my aunt here on her 60th birthday in 2012. She came for another visit recently and requested to go back. She loved the atmosphere, the old bar, and the food! It has an old charm feel to it, and the wait staff is great. They are very attentive no matter how busy the restaurant. Definitely a place to eat if you're visiting Portland. Have the fish and chips and experience the Spanish coffee prepared at your table. You won't be disappointed."

  • "I first ate at Huber's in the mid-80's. I loved the ambiance and the food and watching their serving the coffee specialties is always a delight. I was amazed at the amount of food I got with their turkey dinner special not even counting the soup or salad and desert that came with it. My colleagues, too, found the servings to be most generous. Big helpings of bad food is not good. But large helpings of good, wholesome food as served here is really fine."

  • "Huber's is an absolute classic, the oldest restaurant in Portland. The backroom (bar) is where you want to go for dinner, one of the most beautiful old rooms in this city. The food is very good in general, although turkey (served as sandwiches and in other forms) is what Huber's has traditionally been famous for. And everyone has the Spanish coffee, which accounts for a substantial proportion of the world's Kahlua consumption, at least in part for the spectacle of watching the waiter prepare it."

  • "Two friends and I went to Huber's for a birthday dinner. Our reservation was for three--and they seated us in the back room (the bar, which has a lot of history). We did not order the Spanish coffee, but we watched the table next to us--that is quite the show! The birthday girl had the turkey dinner, which was lovely, and she received a complimentary dessert with a candle (because it was her birthday). I had Turkey Piccatta, which was delectable, and a friend ordered the Crab Cakes, which were spicy and moist. We all had a wonderful time. The only down side was that our waitress was not especially attentive. The service she provided was nice, but she never introduced herself and we had to go and find her to order dessert and pay the check."

  • "I'm a huge fan of the bar so I thought I'd try the restaurant for Valentines day. I must say that I was a bit disappointed with the atmosphere as it felt less formal than I assumed. Other than that, great food and, of course, great Spanish coffees!"
