Diner Reviews
  • "I loved this place!!! Great outside area and great menu available! The cookies and milk on the desert menu is a must!!"

  • "This is one restaurant that I frequent on a Friday night. Love the food and show every Friday."

  • "Overall, it was a nice time. The food was amazing and our bartender (who was from California) was Awesome and there aren't enough characters allowed in this review to praise him. However, the woman who greeted us at the door was more than rude and we did feel rushed to leave. After eating we were told, "Another party needs this table." while we were still having cocktails. It would have been a bit nicer if we were kindly asked to relocate to the bar. As it stood, we basically felt that we just needed to leave."

  • "Wonderful time, great staff, delicious food and drinks. This is rooftop restaurant and bar. The rooftop is retractable so you dont have to worry about getting wet."

  • "We loved the outdoorsy feeling upstairs. The food was delicious---especially the mini lobster rolls."

  • "A great, fun place with good food, and great drinks. There's a nice group atmosphere but you don't have to be social if you don't want to."

  • "Brunch on the rooftop is the way to go! There is a great jazz band and the food is delicious! A very fun scene!."

  • "Recently went to Hotel Chantelle for Sunday brunch. Hostesses / bartender / server were all super friendly. Food was great and drinks (which were half off for brunch) were even better. The open air rooftop venue was great and a jazz band enhanced the experience. Will definitely be going back."

  • "My boyfriend and I really enjoyed ourselves at the Chantelle. It seemed very exclusive upon arrival. The decor is beautiful. The cocktails and refreshing. The food is great!"

  • "Met some friends for brunch. Great atmosphere on the rooftop of a 3- story walk up. The live jazz made it fun and vibrant. Food was quite delicious and the menu offered something for everyone. It's a younger crowd, but they didn't pay any mind to my foursome of 50 year olds. Just know the tables are very close together."

  • "The food and the atmosphere were very good, but the service was terrible"

  • "We had a lovely table on the rooftop and the venue was even better than we had hoped for! our waiter was an absolute pleasure... the food divine! we shared the grilled octopus and the duck pate... the octopus was even better than at our favorite Greek restaurant, which is really saying something! We WILL be back!"

  • "The terrace at Hotel Chantelle makes you feel, after just a few minutes, as if you've been transported away from New York, and closer to some time and some place in Paris. The vintage mosaic floor, the salvaged wrought iron fence surrounding the rooftop area, the gorgeous vintage bar... it's all beautiful. The food is pretty great –yet not necessarily the defining feature. The brunch drinks are pretty good, chief among them the bloody mary. The real beauty in this place is Dandy Wellington and his jazz band (Tue nights and Saturday for brunch), as well as the collection of patrons looking good and dressed to kill."

  • "AWESOME roof deck and really nice staff. The food is just meh. But it's still a fun spot and not too pricey."

  • "The setting at Hotel Chantelle is beautiful - a well decorated rooftop. The jazz band at brunch was incredible too. They also have great brunch cocktails at great prices. That's where is changes. Our waiter was good. However, another table's waitress moved the shade from covering our table to covering one of hers, and walked off with a shrug when I complained. The food was fine but not outstanding. All in all, it was fine, but not a place I'd return."

  • "It's not a hotel but you'll wish you could stay. Staff is excellent and friendly; everyone was more than accommodating. Bartender made delicious custom drinks to order, and really knew his craft. Food was fabulous and the wait staff was energetic and friendly. I would've stayed if I could but I'll definitely be back. And boo to all the nahsayers giving bad reviews just because they couldn't get in, make a reservation on opentable and you won't have that problem."

  • "Great place for brunch. The live band was fantastic, not too loud but very entertaining. Drink specials were great, and food was good."

  • "Came here on Father's Day and we got seated right away. We came with a baby in a car seat and we were given a very convenient spot. The music was good but loud and it may have been the reason for a mixup of our order. The food was delicious and my hubby loved his cocktails. The only thing he mentioned is that the minisa coukd have ised a hit more oj. The rooftop atmosphere is very nice. Cozy and down to earth. We look forward to coming back again some day."

  • "Great spot, friendly staff, but not overly attentive, don't go in with high expectations of the service and you'll be fine. The food is good. The venue is great, come here with a group, and stay for the nightlife after dinner."

  • "Great place for brunch. The lobster eggs benedict was delicious! The ambience and interior design were great. It reminded me of Paris!"

  • "Hotel Chantelle's glass enclosed rooftop is a nice place to meet a friend for brunch and a few drinks. Their cocktails are discounted, the only catch being an automatic 15% gratuity, but the service absolutely warranted that kind of tip. The food was good - I had a burger with avocado puree which was a nice touch. We were sat directly next to the live band, which made conversation a bit hard, so you may want to request a table a bit further."

  • "This is a great spot to bring guests. An amazing jazz band plays during brunch and the environment is energetic. I don't think the food is amazing. It's very mediocre. There really isn't too much variety. The smoked salmon entree came with bagel crisps instead of a bagel. The steak and eggs doesn't come with french fries, but potato chips. The french fries are amazing and if it actually came with the steak, I would give it two thumbs up. All the other entrees are very typical. The service can be dodgy. I also have had a difficult time on the rooftop. It's either been too cold or too hot. They don't have enough umbrellas, v/v they don't have space heaters. So that's a caveat if you plan to go. Other than that, it's cool."

  • "Be sure to request the roof in your reservation, or they will seat you downstairs in the dark dining room. The roof is gorgeous, but shade is hard to come by and it gets pretty hot in the direct sun. The live jazz band was wonderful! The hostess was not friendly at all, but the server made up for it. I would recommend this location for a boozy brunch as they have a small selection of cocktails for 92 cents. There are also more drink options at a higher price point, but still very affordable."

  • "I went with my boyfriend with a travelzoo deal for 4 cocktails and 2 appetizers. We got there on the early side and the bar was fairly empty, which was nice. By the time we left (7ish) it was getting busy. The sun was shinning and the roof top is beautiful. Cocktails were solid and good was great. I would definitely recommend. Hope to go back for brunch. They have a good happy hour too, 5-8pm 1/2 price some cocktails, beer and wine. "

  • "The food is just delicious. I've been here on several occasions and never disappointed. I believe I've tried just about everything on the menu. Also the late night entertainment is fantastic on Friday nights."

  • "I love this place for dancing and thought I'd give their brunch a try for my birthday. The staff was amazing (I think I changed my reservation three different times and each time the staff was accommodating). Food was good. The ceviche had the perfect amount of spice to it and the truffle pizza was amazing. We'll be back for sure."

  • "The food was very good - the steak frites has a delightful shallot sauce and the super skinny fries are perfect. We ate upstairs, but unfortunately the roof was already closed. I would recommend going earlier in the evening if you want to eat with a normal energetic vibe (could not hear a word my friends said) and don't want the bar-goers spilling all over your table. That said, the bar upstairs is great and the drinks are well-made. "

  • "The rooftop is beautiful and further enhanced by the addition of a live jazz band. However, the food is bland and the famed 92 cent cocktails are worth exactly 92 cents. You should come here for the vibe -- nothing more, nothing less. "

  • "My wife and I showed up at 11:20 with an 11:30 reservation. Employees start showing up at the door at 11:25 and they finally opened at 11:40. We had to rooftop deck where the employees don't have a clue what they're doing. About ten minutes later we are finally led to a table she tries to sit us at the one table in pure sun. We're the second group and had reservations, no thanks. At this point we are SERIOUSLY considering going somewhere else. Glad we didn't. The waitress was very good and the food was definitely top notch. Due to their drink specials they compute the 15% tip based on the standard prices. While annoying this likely has to do with too many cheap people stiffing the servers."

  • "The live jazz band was a bit loud, but we knew about that before I made reservations, we've been here before. This place is high energy, great food, good drink deals. The rooftop is a great space, intimate while also open and airy. If you want a quiet brunch spot, this isn't for you. If you want to go out with friends in an upbeat setting that will leave you with a full tummy and a big smile, this is the place. "

  • "We had a great time discovering this new place thanx to opentable.com, highly recommended. Hip cool crowd, great cocktails and tasty appetizers. The entrees were filling and were nice portions."

  • "We were a party of 4 and had an early dinner (6pm) on a saturday night. The place was about 1/2 full, but there were some people at the bar as well. It was raining so the roof was on, but it had a cool greenhouse type effect. It seemed like it would be really busy later on. The food was great, we ordered about 1 of everything on the app list. Lobster roll minis and deviled eggs were awesome. Also really loved the cinnamon puff dessert. The drinks were delish and strong. And some of them were 1/2 priced until 8pm. Our server was very friendly and attentive. I'd definitely go back. "

  • "I would recommend the Hotel Chantelle for roof top drinking, but not eating. Maybe a few appetizers here and there, but the food was not good. The quiche came out ice cold in the middle, which says to me it was frozen. The scrambled eggs on crostini had a good flavor, but no flair in presentation or difficulty in the dish. Most of the clientele were a younger crowd. Great prices for the college set."

  • "This was my first NYC brunch experience- although I was a little confused when I saw the bar from the outside, the beautiful rooftop was a great time. The live jazz music was one of my favorites- other than the scenery, and great food of course! Very packed- definitely best to make a reservation at least a week before (I did a week before and the only open time was 315PM). Drinks are potent, and have great brunch prices. I had the lobster salad and my boyfriend ordered the lobster benedict, we were both very happy with our meals. Definitely a place to visit again and show our friends :)"

  • "Very interesting menu, many odd and different combination of dishes but the result vas amazing! Fantastic atmosphere, especially on Tuesday evening with live jazz band. It was like stepping into to the 1930's. One of the best restaurants I've been at!"

  • "I have been there from Brunch and Dinner with two different groups of 6 ppl and both times it was an absolutely wonderful dining experience! The food is amazing, and their cocktail list is tasty too. They have live Jazz during brunch and we ended up playing Bingo on a Monday night after dinner. I'd take any visitor here for a great NY dining experience."
