The food is amazing, and their cocktail list is tasty too. They have live Jazz during brunch and we ended up playing Bingo on a Monday night after dinner.   • "From the street, this spot doesn't look like much (especially since it's not actually a hotel). But in e you go upstairs the restaurant and atmosphere is wonderful. The brunch menu was superb. The open rooftop was unique. And the live 20s-themed band set the great mood."

  • "The hostess was a touch lackluster but our server was awesome! He put up with a table of 9 giggling ladies with a fervor for the 92 cent cocktails like a champ. Love the space (on a roof w/ glass covering), love the live music, love the dancers, good food, great cocktails - all in all a fantastic brunch."

  • "Our waitress was inattentive and rude. I asked for bread and butter to tide us over and supplement the appetizers. She told us the restaurant doesn't have bread. Really? A French restaurant without bread? So I asked for more of the toasts that came with our expensive appetizers. I was told that would be an extra charge. Seriously? A $200 dinner doesn't merit extra toasted bread? The entrees (fish for my date, sweetbreads for me) were not extraordinary, but good. We had decent but overpriced bottle of wine. My date had a cocktail he thought was tasty. Hotel Chantelle has a fine chef, but a serious management problem. For these prices, one wants to feel better received and cared for. Our waitress was just awful. Finally: Get Bread, Chantelle!"

  • "Came here for my birthday. Had dinner with friends on the rooftop and it was absolutely great! The food was wonderful so were the drinks. The pineapple express is surprisingly great, even with the kick of jalapeño in it. Ladies, I do not recommend wearing heels to this place because of the tiny stairs you have to walk up. I was so afraid that I would have slipped and rolled down the flights of stairs, straight out the door lol. One thing my guests and I didn't like was the wait staff practically pushing us out the door. The place wasn't packed and yet they were removing our glasses when we weren't even done with our drinks. And they ran out of one of the desserts (murder cake), which sucked. But I would definitely come back here again."

  • "We showed up at 2:15 for our reservation and were not seated until 3:15 and did not receive food until after 4:15. While the waiter was extremely nice and the ambiance was just what we were hoping for (until the brunch crowd left around 4) it's hard to have too many positive thoughts when brunch ends at 5pm because of a 2.5 hour wait. We were really excited for this meal and it ended up being a huge disappointment."

  • "My husband and I went for Sunday brunch and the ladybugs were performing. I just loved the live music and the french feel of the rooftop. We just really loved the ambience, bright and lively. Cocktails were very good. Limited food menu but enough options that it may be hard to choose. One thing that bothered me was during phone reservations they made a point to say twice we would have limited time at the table. When we arrived for our reservations we had to wait this wouldn't be bad if we were not told we had to leave at a certain time. After saying all that, we had plenty of time at the table and did not feel pressured to leave. I just feel like they didn't need to say anything because it started off the whole experience in a negative way."

  • "So, it's not a hotel restaurant after all. Very cool atmosphere -- sort of La Boheme meets Blade Runner. Love the DJ too. It's generally on the loud and lively side here, so, be prepared for that. Great fun, though, and my meal was terrific (ridiculously decadent and yummy truffle pizza, balanced out by the very delicious and healthy kale salad); and though "hip and beautiful" is clearly a big part of the job description, service was top notch as well."

  • "We went here on a Monday night and was surprised with bingo night. It was a great time while on a dinner date. The food is great. Amazing lobster rolls! I have been here at brunch in summer time also and their outdoor patio is phenomenal! Love their brunch selections all around great place to go for a good time."

  • "Came here for a groupon deal. The duck pate was a delicious starter but by 7pm they already ran out of an entree. Then, we thought that because the base burger was only $15, that the add ons would be included in the groupon entree item, wrong. Then, they forgot the add ons (they were delicious though). The drinks were good too, however they charged an automatic 20% tip on the bill, and this would've been OK if the waitress had come over more than 3 times in the 3 hours that we were there and the burger additions were complimentary. It's a bummer too, because we enjoyed their Monday night bingo and were planning on returning until we saw what happened with the check (the waitress also overcharged us and had to correct the check)."

  • "I've been to Hotel Chantelle on several occasions and the food is delicious and service is good. My boyfriend and I generally go on Friday nights to see the classic burlesque show which starts at 9:30pm and ends around 10:30pm. Unfortunately, the crowd got out of control this night, the place's security couldn't or wouldn't manage it, and the show ended early . We're not pleased that we didn't get to see the whole show and our favorite performer Calamity."

  • "The food wasn't bad. It took awhile because I was told there was a large party downstairs of which I understood. However, what I don't understand is how they got my order wrong and forgot the side dish to my dates order. When I pointed it out, the waitress had anerve to say she needed to double check ...as if I would make that up! Reading a menu isn't complicated! Then his side dish finally came ...after he was done with his meal! To top brunch off, the waiter over charged me and then rolled his eyes when I pointed it out! I was celebrating my dates birthday so didn't make a big deal but don't see myself coming back anytime soon!"

  • "Better than standard brunch fair; the breakfast dumplings & spring rolls are worth trying. For the bibulous, you can't beat the $.92 cocktails. If the jazz band is playing... I'd advise being seated away from them if you'd like to have a conversation with the person seated across from you. Lucky for us, they didn't start playing until we were almost done."

  • "We originally went to this restaurant for brunch because we had a voucher from Blackboard Eats. While the brunch cocktails are an awesome deal ($3 bloody marys, bellinis and $0.92 specials), we found the food to be overpriced for the portions. For example, we ordered the bacon, egg and cheese dumplings and only received four small dumplings. We enjoyed the live jazz band and the bright dining room. Will definitely go back...but only with a blackboard eats coupon."

  • "Jazz in a cozy rooftop setting for Saturday brunch- welcoming staff, great food and music, inexpensive cocktails. We loved the lobster eggs Benedict; breakfast pizza's complex, subtle flavors; bananas foster waffles (could have had a few more bananas); sweet potato fries, with enough salt to balance the maple syrup dip. Chosen because it was near an event but would return as a destination to enjoy the jazz and try other menu items- many great options. Middle-aged parents and our 24 year old daughter were all happy campers at brunch. Enclosed rooftop was warm even on a very cold winter day. We were late because of traffic/ parking but staff was gracious. Much different atmosphere at brunch than at night, when it's a club."

That said, if you do go, order the brussel sprouts tree. The presentation is amazing. We unfortunately did not get it, but the table next to us did, and we were very jealous."

  • "had a blackboard eats code for 30% off. yelp was lukewarm about food, loved jazz brunch. Dined on 2nd floor -quiet (thurs in January), rustic feel and candles were romantic. We shared deviled eggs (tasty, 6 pieces-3 eggs in half), burrata (creamy, loved vinegar caviar), tuna cigar (cute presentation, tasted like a spicy tuna roll, not exciting-would be better with coarser chop), pate (it hit the spot), hangar steak (rare was melt in your mouth, with mini cup of creamed spinach. Meat is tiny! If you ordered only this dish with no apps you might be disappointed) and mac&cheese (tasty, but seemed pricey). Would def come back and bring friends as food seemed fun and inventive. With coupon, a glass of wine and cocktail it came to $90 before tip."

We arrived 15 minutes early to our reservation and waited for a table for 30 minutes while parties of the same size (that arrived AFTER us) were seated first. It was very strange and I had to keep asking bothering the hostess or else she would have completely forgotten about us. The food was delicious, the ambiance was great and the live jazz music was just wonderful."

  • "My wife and I are regulars at Hotel Chantelle on Friday nights, because we're huge fans of Calamity Chang and her Room 69 burlesque show. The food and service are always great, too, and this evening was no exception. Unfortunately, because there were so many people there, we had to maneuver constantly to see the show. At one point, I had to stand in front of some people who had walked in and stood right in front of our table, blocking our view. I like when the performers get a good crowd, but when it's TOO crowded it makes things less pleasant."

  • "Fun place to go with an interesting menu. Lots of young people, early 20's and a great place to see the young NY. Menu had interesting items. I recommend getting the "fun stuff" on the menu and not traditional fare. Eggs Benedict with lobster was a hit. The scrambled egg pizza looked terrific and the pommes frites were AAA. Next time, I would try the dumplings with bacon and maybe even the grilled cheese. I don't like brioche roll but if you do, then I would try the burger. Salad was boring and the chicken on top had no taste. The service is efficient. Wish that the $3 cup of tea came with half a cup of hot water and no offer to refill. Would have liked one more hot cup of tea on a cold, rainy Sunday on the Lower East Side."

  • "wow, what a special feel with roof top dinning even though it is not that high, only 2nd floor, but the feeling with the open top restaurant is totally different!. It was so busy and full of customers, waitress was so busy running around. We ordered app, 2 entrees, portion not big, drink size average, overall was a little pricey, leaving me hungry after $120 for 2 people. the noise was so loud i felt bad for the apartment building nearby. But it was a new experience for us!"

  • "Bought a voucher for 4 drinks, 2 appetizers…$39 for almost $90 value. Went there on a Sunday night..very quiet and dark. Server was top notch, excellent drink and apps recommendations. Extremely satisfied with our evening there. Curiously however, "doorman" requested ID's for dinner guests, bartender would not serve us at bar with vouchers, even though hostess stated it was fine. Oh well, it's his tip. Would definitely go again in better weather for open roof bar searing."

The food was good, band and service were great and cocktails were potent! Very envious of the large groups enjoying big bowls of punch. Would definitely recommend Hotel Chantelle for large or smaller groups looking enjoy an afternoon out on the LES."
