Diner Reviews
  • "I find Horatio's a good spot for a week night business dinner. The service is good the pace is not rushed, the food is good and the menu varied enough for most appetites."

  • "I had never been there so I didn't know what to expect. We had a very nice lunch. I will definitely go back when I am in the area."

  • "Food was very tasty. Service was great. We will return soon!"

  • "we went all out---appetizers, salads, main course, dessert....all wonderful, as usual.....the Burnt Cream is still the bomb, after all these years.....I had salmon and prime rib, portions very large, tasty. Very happy"
    Dined on 7/18/2014
  • "Service was very good. I ordered the prime rib and salmon. Unfortunately the prime rib was so fibrous that I couldn't finish it, and the salmon lacked flavor. I have always considered Horatio's a San Leandro gem, but my last experience calls this into question. As always though, the Burnt Cream was fantastic!"

  • "We all found the food to be tasty and well served. The service was good, altho we had a large group, the server was prompt and personal. Horatio's has held up well and always pleasant to dine there."

  • "Nice menu. We have always enjoyed the food here. It does get noisy in the dining room. So if you are looking for a quiet dinner ask for a table near the edges of the dining room or up top."
    Dined on 7/6/2014
  • "Menu is tired. My lunch partner and I ordered fish tacos. We neglected to ask and surprised to find out that the "fish" is breaded and fried? When you think a server's attentiveness would be welcome, this particular server approached our table 6 times prior to placing our order. Felt like we had to make an ordering decision within minutes of sitting down. Plain annoying."

  • "My wife and I enjoyed another good dinner and great service."

  • "Pea salad is unique and delicious. We received a large portion of it that we were able to share with five. From past experience that the seafood salad has been excellent, I was disappointed in it this time - rather small portion of seafood on it and the crab was not that tasty. Perhaps wrong season to have it. Also seemed unusual from past experience that bread was not served. My guests all enjoyed their meals of salmon entrees and fish and chips."

  • "We had the best brunch there! The view is beautiful and the service is excellent. The bread with the garlic butter is the bomb!"

  • "Just the two of us had a lovely dinner after a long walk in the nearby Marina Park. This was our first visit to Horatio's. A "find". Everyone was very accommodating."

  • "Our reservation was not ready at our requested time. After 15 minutes we requested a table in the bar. After another 10 mins we had a server wait on us. We ordered food and drinks immediately. We received water and waited. Our lobster bisque arrived quickly. After another 10 minutes we had to flag down a different server, as we had not seen ours, to request bread. Still did not get our drinks. We recd our bread about 10 minutes later, then received one martini and our meals. We then requested a side of creamy horseradish, ranch dressing and mayonaise. Did not receive them after 15 minutes. Requested again from a 3rd waiter, and reminded for a glass of cabernet. Finally received after another 10 minutes."

  • "The service and food was outstanding on this night. We are glad we decided to have our date night dinner at Horatio's."

  • "We went for our anniversary dinner. They sat us at a window table which is nice, but the chairs had crumbs on them and asked them to please clean the seats. There were crumbs and food all under the table on the floor and around us. You would think they would clean this up before seating us. We ordered one peppercorn steak medium rare and it came medium well. The filet and lobster came out correct medium rare. The server was nice but we kept looking around for service to refill our waters and get some service. Overall the food is good, service is ok, cleanliness they need to work on. The view is nice if you sit at a window seat."

  • "The food was extremely salty.. Service was slow... Waited 15-20 mins for a ices tea.. Address was wrong... :("

  • "The ambiance of this place gives you the feeling of being far from the city and suburbia. Being on the water with the boats docked, the large windows, the raised areas of seating, just give you instant relaxation. We shared the Lobster Bisque soup and it was delicious. We both had the prime rib and it did not disappoint, nor did dessert with the fresh berries and peaches. This is a true Bay Area gem!!"

  • "We love this restaurant, we have been dining on Father's Day for the past three years. This time the menu did not have a variety to choose from and we were told that if they had a the regular menu on holidays, we would not get our food for awhile. Not Happy"

  • "You're essentially paying for the view. The bill wasn't bad, it was expected and fair, but the food was NOT that great. I expected more from a higher end establishment. I have to say the saving grace of this was that the staff knew that I was flying in from Seattle to surprise my father for his birthday/Father's Day and I put a reservation a month in advance and they were SO incredibly accommodating. Service was great. Our orders were a little messed up, especially my sister's dessert, but overall GREAT experience."

  • "Live in San Leandro and always return. Never disappointed. Compliments to the chef. There for Father's day brunch. Extremely busy as to be expected. Had to send back a cocktail that I ordered because it tasted terrible. Blueberry Crush. The waiter stated that the color of the drink was not what it normally looks like and brought another cocktail. Extremely different in taste and color. Bartender error!!!!! I will not let this stop me from returning."

  • "The food was very expensive but good, not excellent. The salmon was cooked well but asparagus was almost raw. The fish and chips were dark and oily, but the fries were good. We went for the ambience, but unfortunately we were sat in the middle of the restaurant (even though I booked reservations a month ahead) and there were no views of the water from our table and it was so noisy you had to yell. We were extremely disappointed especially being it was our first (and last) visit. It was Father's Day- but clearly the restaurant was overly chaotic. Our service was slow-although our waitress was friendly. She apologized for the wait (we sat for 20 minutes before being greeted) and offered us bread. She brought our food and never checked on us."

  • "The food and service are OK, it is just that the place needs an update of the furniture and decor... it is old and tired."

  • "Horatio's is my favorite East Bay restaurant! This time I had Copper River Salmon & it was exquisite! My friend had the Crab Stuffed Sole & he was very, very pleased with it. We exchanged bites from one another's plates and, while his was great, mine was better. Our server was Amber, who could not possibly been more attentive. She is knowledgable about your fare as well as very thorough in her presentation."

  • "Took some friends to Horatios and had a very nice dinner. Had a lovely bottle of Malbec that was relatively inexpensive. It was a little noisy in there at first, but could still have conversation. Would recommend highly as it is local and was quite busy on Sunday night."

  • "We attended Sunday's Brunch and had a wonderful experience. Customer Service was excellent and the food was great. I would definitely recommend Horatio's to my family and friends."

  • "Great service as always. Window seating requested and accommmodated. Oven roasted pastrami sandwich could have eliminated the french fries in it!"

  • "Made Open Table reservation with specific instructions that it was my wife's birthday. When we arrived the hostess made no reference to say Happy Birthday or anything. Our server Gregory was horrified and embarrassed the he was not told either. (We had asked if he had been told.) The manager came by and apologized after our server told her about it. Food and service was outstanding. We have been before and will go back."

  • "My mother's day review was disappointing, but Kellie the manager wrote me and asked for a 2nd Chance. I had a wedding of a dear friend coming up and thought "What a perfect place for lunch after the wedding" Kellie met us at the entrance and sat us at a perfect window table. Included Champagne in chilled glasses. First class all the way. Our waitress excellent. Food was good. I had the scallops and the Bride had Copper River Salmon cooked to perfection. Dessert for the Bride and Groom was comped. Thank you Horatio's and Kellie for a memorable luncheon. I will not give up on you! "

  • "My wife ordered a halibut dinner but it came out was a bit dry which you could notice it from outside. The complimentary salmon was very good and juicy. The filet mignon was good but not I expected. I still enjoyed it. It was a bit noisy to me. Maybe I can request a quiet corner next time."

  • " The server and service were great. The food was ok but MUCH too salty. I couldn't eat all my food due to over-salting. Eccessive salt is unhealthy for almost everyone. Many people are on low sodium diets. There are salt shakers on every table. People can and should be able to salt their food to their own taste. I would think twice about returning due to the amount of salt used."

  • "Food was good as was the service; the décor needs a drastic make over as it is very dated."

  • "Everyone was so nice and helpful, food was delicious I especially recommend the macadamia encrusted brie for an appetizer!"

  • "Waiter is polite, well groomed, friendly but too slow. He said he was waiting to see the menus shut but 2 of 3 closed. It took 35 min to get a drink ordered. I was afraid to have him leave because it took so long to get him back. We arrived at 5:15 pm on a Wednesday for my moms birthday so it was not busy. There was no reason to wait so long. We called him over at 5:50 just to begin our order."

  • "Got there for a 5:30 reservation, had a nice window seat. They had a first seating menu, 3 courses, "

  • "Our waiter made the experience even better! He was so on top of things and never rushed us from start to finish. We were right up front by the window, the food was so delicous, and of course the drinks and wine were good also. Over all a wonderful evening we shared with friends and family."

  • "Consistently good food and service. I'm partial to the lunch menu but dinner is classic chicken, beef, fish, pasta. Nice salads. Nice desserts. This is the sister restaurant to Kincaids in Oakland. Easier to get reservations, a little more comfy. "
    Dined on 5/18/2014
  • "We keep coming back because the view is nice and the food is very good. Although the server was firendly, helpful and polite, the service was slow. Even though the place was not very busy. Our dessert, the Decadent Chocolate cake ala mode was delicious and presented beautifully."
