Diner Reviews
  • "I have been to Horatio's several times since they opened because I live in San Leandro and also work closeby. I've been there for work lunches, Happy Hour with friends and family, as well as dinner with my husband. The food is always great and it's priced appropriately. The Happy Hours are great. Just recently two coworkers and I went there for lunch. Our server was slow and inattentive. She never checked on or offered us anything after we placed our order, we had to ask for everything including beverage refills and finally our check. We were all happy with our food, just disappointed in the poor service. We returned to work extremely late. Not good."

  • "I have been going to Horatio's for over twelve years. Recently I returned for a business dinner. It seems to me that the menu has faltered in the recent past. The choice of seafood dishes seems slimmer, which is odd for a restaurant on the Bay. In addition, when I asked for a grilled prep of my salmon and to keep it rare, I was dismayed to find the fish fully cooked through with no real searing on the outside. This is something that I can easily get at far lower cost/profile restaurants. Service was good, wine was fine. The exterior of the restaurant was not kept up and garbage was strewn about. This is a shame. I hope that they can get back to a more consistent version of this one time favorite."

  • "We had a reservation for 9 people at 12:00 noon and got seated at 12:30 and there was a line of people at the entrance and you can practically see the empty tables in the dining area. We pointed to the hostess that we have a reservation and she just said that everybody waiting at the entrance have reservations too. I just don't get the inefficiency of seating the customers. The food was great but when the server took our order she just asked straight out after each order if we want soup or salad. She should have made it clear that if anybody wants soup or salad it would be for an extra charge of $9.95 and its too stiff for soup to accompany your meal. All in all we ended up paying $50 per person with iced tea and shared desserts."

  • "I took my brother to dinner, to thank him for all the love and kindness that was shown to me. When I need anything done around the house, he would do it and/ or recommend an excellent contractor. The food was very good, the customer service was an A+ and the place/location outstanding..... I would recommend this restaurant to friends and family members. Thank you for a wonderful experience."

  • "We will say that dining was an outstanding experience at Horatio's for our anniversary. The staff attended to each of the requests made for the evening. Enough cannot be said about our server Vic who was outstanding. He had set the table up in a special way, the wine was on ice, and the flowers were on the table. He paid a lot of attention to us the entire evening. He helped to make the evening a total success. An outstanding anniversary dinner experience on our special day."

  • "Our lunch was very good. Our waitress was friendly and knowledgeable about all the various dishes. And provided great service! Kelli, the General Manager, was very present in the dining room and was circulating around to make sure everyone was being taken care of."

  • "After a friend introduced me to this great place I have taken several people here and everyone is delighted with their experiences. The food and service are excellent and the views of the Marina are an added bonus!"

  • "The food was very tasty and the service attentive. The margarita was too sweet due to the "house made" mix."

  • "This seems to be the go to place for San Leandro business luncheons. I like the ambience and bring my clients there regularly. The food is good and the noise level does not preclude conversation. The wait staff are always very friendly."

  • "The views are spectacular and the food is not too shabby either. There are special brunch offerings as well as regular menu items. I recommend reservations--especially if the weather is nice."

  • "Of cpurse, the food is extraordinary and perfectly served....but the other part that most restaurants don't have is comfort and friendliness..... I almost feel like I am at home while I am there. At the same time, being pampered and looking over the beautiful harbor. On this visit, I could watch the rain from the window and the little ducks swimming in the water.... it was so cozy sitting inside and enjoying my perfect meal!!!"

  • "I've been eating at Horatio's since I moved here from New Orleans 12 years ago. I especially love their interpretation of our jambalaya... so yummy! They always accommodate my request to make it extra spicy! This gem of a restaurant is definitely one of my favorite places to eat."

  • "I've never seen this place short on waiters, until this last Sat. night. I think the food suffered also as it was a little on the cooler side when we got it. All six of my family were dissapointed because we have been accustomed to much better. The waiter was trying to keep upbeat but just knew he was way overloaded. I'll let this one slide because of past performance, but it it happens again--bye bye."

  • "I was alittle disappointed that our siron tips were over cooked and that it took along time to get our drinks. The place was busy so we understood. I like Horatio's so I will try to make an earlier reservations so that I can avoid the crowd."

  • "I appreciate the fact the restaurant served their happy hour items in the formal dining area. The food here is delicious. But it took a long time to order, a long time to receive the food, a long time to receive a drink refill and a long time to receive the check."

  • "This restaurant is usually good but my Maple Chicken salad had no taste. Must have been an off day for the chef."

  • "We have never had a bad experience at Horatio's and this past Sunday night's dinner there was no different. The service was spectacular, food was delicious; what more can you ask for? Would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone and look forward to dining there again in the near future!"

  • "Horatio's is a great go-to place for reliably good food and pleasant ambience. The special of the day were particularly appetizing and the crab stuffed mahi-mahi that I had was downright delicious. Generous servings and a nice place to relax by the bay."

  • "Located at San Leandro Marina. Excellent view during the day as well as in the evening. Plenty of parking. Excellent service. Nice seafood dishes and meat entrees. Prices are moderate. remarkable service."

  • "What a great experience! If you are lucky you will be greated by the most wonderful General Manager, Kelly. This lady is the best example of the Ultimate Host that my wife and I have ever met. We always ask for Diane to wait on us but we also love LeeAnn and Tammy. The food is fantastic and the experience is awsome!"

  • "Having made (and arrived at least 10 minutes early each time) reservations for 5 dining experiences, we have had to wait 10 - 20 minutes PAST our reservation time--each time-- to be taken to our table. Every time our hostess said that "we are just swamped tonight..." What good does it mean to have a reserved time if the time is going to be ignored. Once, twice, but FIVE times, really!"

  • "We celebrated my wife's birthday at Horatio's this weekend. We had a great table, right next to the window as we requested by our online reservation, and we enjoyed a beautiful sunset together, which was my wife's birthday wish. Our waiter was great - friendly, humorous, attentive, personable - and he made the meal even better. I'm from San Leandro, but moved to Arizona 12 years ago, and my wife and I do our best to dine at Horatio's whenever we come to town."

  • "One night of terrible service. Usually very good service"

  • "I frequent Horatio's often. Depending on the time day or evening, the servers can get really busy. Personally, I couldn't be a server because I don't have the temperament for it. It's a job that requires constant movement and having the ability to provide service with a smile no matter how indifferent the customer is. For the most part, I can say that I have not had any such encounters at Horatio's that would hinder my return. My observation tonight is that more teamwork between the front of the house (hostess) and the service needs to be established early on. Customers become impatient (myself included) when you have to make a request for everything that literally should be in place before you decide on your entree'."

  • "I don't like the food. I tasted better the same food at a different place. Their online menu has nothing to do with their actual menu while I only wanted the good on the online menu, store doesn't have it."

  • "I had requested window seats with a nice view. The restaurant did accommodated. My server did an excellent job from ordering food to asking for our needs. She had a very nice smile when she served us. She asked the chef to make a vegetarian dish for me. She checked the ingredients of the soup I wanted. I will come back to this restaurant definitely."

  • "Horatio's is pricey, but the food is really good if you're looking for a big meal. Good selection of beers on tap, extensive wine list, and a balanced menu emphasizing meat and fish. I had crab-stuffed mahi mahi, which was delicious, but the accompanying potatoes and veggies were cold beneath the fish. My dining partners had baby back ribs and grilled salmon, and both were well-received. The service was very good: friendly, helpful, and not intrusive."

  • "Horatio's is one of our favorite local places to go. It is easy to get to and has a nice view of the San Leandro Marina. The wedge salad is one of our favorites. I had the short ribs and they were so tender. My husband had the prime rib small cut and ate the whole thing! I usually I get the fish. It is always fresh and there is at least four to five to pick from. We shared a slice of Key Lime pie, my husbands favorite, but all the desserts are great."

  • "This occasion was a surprise for the unevenness of the service. Briefly then, host escorts us to our table but the table isn't ready so the host shows us to another table. "This is a better table anyway". So why weren't we seated there to begin with? Server doesn't show up for a long time but apologizes and offers us a complimentary appetizer. Manager opens our prize card and says we've won 10% off our meal but fails to show us the open card for verification, doesn't explain that alcohol isn't included and then forgets to tell the server to take off the 10%. Server offers complimentary coffee "because you've been so amazing". Host ignored us upon our exit instead of the usual "thank you, please come again and have a good evening"."

  • "We hadn't been to Horatio's in several years since we live a fair distance away. This occasion was to treat a good friend to lunch with us. We had a reservation for lunch, but arrived about 20-minutes early -- no problem, as we were seated immediately. Our table attendant was quite friendly, attentive and helpful. The food was very good, served promptly and the presentation of each of our dishes attractive and inviting. We all enjoyed a wonderful meal and fantastic desserts too! If you like tart tastes, I highly recommend the Key Lime Pie!!! We will look forward to another lunch in the not to distant future."
