  • Special Events & Promotions: For the 10th year, High Cotton will partner with Communities in Schools for a special three-course lunch in honor of Administrative Professionals Day, Wednesday, April 23, 2014. Communities in Schools will receive 100% of the proceeds from the lunch.

    Guests will enjoy a celebration of tastiness with a three-course menu for the event. The lunch is $25 per person (gratuity not included). The full menu is available online. Lunch reservations are available from 11:30am to 2:30pm. Reservations are required and can be made online or by calling 843.724.3815.

    Communities In Schools of the Charleston Area, Inc. is a nationally accredited 501 (c)(3) nonprofit dropout prevention agency that surrounds students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. Celebrating its 25th anniversary, CIS currently serves more than 13,000 students and their families in 30 schools in Berkeley and Charleston Counties.

  • "My boyfriend and I came here for his birthday dinner and were expecting really great southern cuisine. We shared the clam appetizer and a cup of their crab soup to start with. The soup was good but the clams were incredibly bland. I ordered the surf and turf for myself and he ordered the swordfish. My entree was delicious with the steak cooked perfectly and a lovely lobster tail, but my boyfriends swordfish lacked any kind of real flavor. He said it was the most bland dish he had ever had. I ended up giving him half of my steak and potatoes because he lost interest in his meal. We will not be back. There are too many great restaurants in Charleston for us to bother coming back here."

Great specialty drinks and the dessert was worth the wait too! It wasn't an inexpensive meal but well worth it for service and excellent food."

  • "My husband and I visited Charleston for our one year wedding anniversary and chose High Cotton based on internet reviews. I'd noted on the reservation that it was our anniversary in the hopes of getting a good table. Not only did we get the best table in the restaurant, we each got a complimentary glass of champagne and a handwritten note was waiting on the table from the manager. Our server, Ben, was friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. Definitely get the swordfish; it's to die for! The restaurant has beautiful exposed brick walls and large windows that look out onto Bay St. We can't wait to return and have already recommended High Cotton to family who will be in Charleston soon. Definitely a must-visit!"

  • "We had a great dinner. We started with drinks in the bar before dinner. The cocktails were reasonably priced and there was a great band in the bar while we had drinks. For dinner, we had a great table- one of the intimate booths overlooking the dining room. The menu is good and has enough variety to suit both of our tastes. The service was good and we did not feel rushed. We ordered the peach and prosciutto salad which was excellent as well as the cheese plate. For entrees, we had shrimp & grits and the Ribeye steak. We were very happy with both entrees. The service was great and the food was just as good. We will return in the future."

  • "We had 3 couples at our table, one from out of town. My husband and I had previously had the most divine chocolate souffle there for dessert. I had been told that in the future, if I knew I would be eating at High Cotton, I could request the souffle in advance. When I made my reservation, I asked for the chocolate souffle. When our server introduced herself, she said she understood we wanted the souffle, and she was happy to tell me that it would be forthcoming. The food was divine, and the chocolate souffle to die for! Thank you so much to the High Cotton chef and staff for a lovely evening!"

  • "Prior visits have been much better. Shrimp and grits a local entree favorite was really lacking...sausage was sliced pepperoni pizza thin and portions disappointment. Tuna was tasteless; if not for the cucumber/kimchee served alongside it would have been un-edible. The shrimp paste stuffed squash blossom appetizer was interesting and the fried oyster app was very tasty. We requested a window table (3 were open) and were told "no" despite having a reservation for the specified time."

  • "The food was hit and miss. For starters, My girlfriend ordered a Gimlet and an "Ice cold shot" of vodka, shot was warm. The New York Strip I ordered, though tasty and cooked properly, was overpriced at 32.00( I live in Atlanta, a New York Strip at one of the finest steak houses is only 26.00). The gnocci that came on the side was tasty, but the spinach was uber salty. My girlfriend had the fried clams and gumbo. The breading on the clams, though tasty, was heavy when we were told it was light and thin. The gumbo had a light colored, almost translucent gelatinous roux, as opposed to a medium thick darker roux that you would typically expect and also the seafood in it was sub par(pencil eraser sized scallops, popcorn shrimp). Band was hot."

  • "We had a great brunch in a beautiful setting at High Cotton! The champagne with peach puree and the cold tomato gazpacho drizzled with olive oil were great for a summery day. Also you can't go wrong with corn bread served with butter to start things off. We had the fried green tomato topped with crab cake, poached egg and then covered with hollandaise. The server (Caroline) was so sweet. One of us didn't like grits so she said we could substitute. I'm glad I did because I got the homemade hash brown prepared perfectly. Great memory. Love the place!"

The waiter only interrupted our conversation every time he wanted to take our order, serve food, fill water glasses, clear, etc. I understand his desire to be attentive, but he needs to put his attentiveness in service to his customers, not in service to his schedule."

The presentation was very appealing, temperature was perfect, and it tasted delicious! I'm not a big fan of hummus, but the hummus that was served had tons of flavor. Mattison was very attentive and accommodating. We were seated beside a window which worked great for us. I highly recommend considering High Cotton for any dining occasion."

  • "I made reservations on line for a Sunday evening and arrived about 15 minutes early, was seated right away. Jessica (our server) was very attentive and professional (something I do not take for granted because they can make or break your visit). We ordered the Clam and Mussel appetizer and it was very satisfying in quality and quantity (simple, yet very flavorful). My wife ordered the 12 oz. Strip and I went with the special (Grilled Whole Pink Trout) as suggested by our server. We were both pleased but not "overwhelmed" with the entrees. Dessert was the Peach Cobbler with Vanilla Ice Cream and this was a very fine finish to a really nice dinner night in a great town and fine atmosphere!"

  • "When you enter High Cotton the reception staff is friendly and welcoming. The restaurant decor is reminiscent of a gentleman's club decoration. Nicely appointed. Our drinks were made to perfection and warmly presented by our waiter. Appetizers were good - a seasonal salad with strawberries and hazelnuts. the swordfish entree was absolutely moist and tasty. Unfortunately the tuna entree was not as perfect. We were so full that there was no room for one of the wonderful looking desserts. I recommend trying this little gem of a restaurant in Charleston."
