  • "We were looking for a good alternative spot for a good dinner before going to the Old Globe. We wanted close and good. The Hexagone is both. At Fifth and Laurel, it is walking distance for many and a short drive for the rest of us. This was our second time dining here and we had great experiences both times."

  • "My husband and I were very pleased to have discovered this fine restaurant. We were going to The Globe and therefore took their offer of a shuttle both to and from The Globe. This was a very nice addition and made our visit all the more delightful. We will return very soon again."

  • "The food and service were excellent!!! Highly recommended!!! First time there and will definitely be going back, many menu items we can't find in north San Diego county..."

  • "I called ahead & clarified with Patrick that I could use my Groupon on July 4th. He said no problem but when the bill came & I presented my Groupon to our server, I got "attitude" from the waiter & he stomped off in disgust. The French onion soup was too thick & had a distinct wine taste to it. The bread that was brought to our table was stale. The service from our waiter was extremely slow. Our cocktails were weak. My top sirloin w/Bernaise was cooked to perfection. My mother enjoyed her calfs liver & onions. My mom likes to order dessert, take a few bites & then take the rest home. Well the waiter asked her "Why did you bother ordering a dessert if you weren't going to eat it?" What does it matter to him if she ate it or not? So Rude!"

  • "This is one of those places you kick yourself for not going to sooner. We had tickets for the Old Globe and ate here prior to the performance. What a wonderful dining experience. A true gem of a French restaurant."

  • "We normally love going to Hexagone because the atmosphere is nice and the food is very good. On this trip the food was not up to their normal level. It was rather disappointing and our server Mark needs a few lessons in how to take care of customers."

  • "Hexagone is perfectly situated for a meal before a show at the Old Globe. The seafood was excellent and service was expeditious."

  • "A totally positive experience, our first time here. New York steak and sea bass cooked perfectly. Great service. Our server was available as we needed him, and when we were ready to leave, he brought our check and then processed our card quickly. It may seem strange to mention that, but we have been to a couple of otherwise excellent restaurants lately that just don't seem to understand that when customers are ready to leave, it is because they have someplace else they need to be."

  • "Got a Groupon after checking out their prices on their web site. Showed up and saw the menu prices were 20% higher than what I saw. That is deceptive to me. $12 lobster bisque came in a tiny cup and was just creamy broth. NY strip was way too fatty. Lamb good but 4 lollipops for $34 left me hungry still. No one greeted us at the door and we stood there for ten minutes while staff moved around us. Sat down and no one came to our table for 15 minutes and the restaurant was almost empty. Used to love this place. No more."

  • "Wonderful place for dinner before going to the theater at the Old Globe. Excellent food and service. Very convenient parking (a rarity in the neighborhood). Nice to walk across the bridge into the park after dinner."

  • "The waiter did not have the specials down, they charged $15 for a small plate of spinach with 3 shrimp and a mediocore dressing. $9 for a cup of lobster bisque, no lobster and then had to have them fill it as it came half empty. Flavorless. Would not recommend and would not return. It was a birthday lunch and the waiter did not even offer a souffle prior to us ordering."

  • "This restaurant is beautifully appointed and lends itself to fine dining. The food was well prepared, and delicious. The service was excellent and uncrushed. More European than American, we were not made to feel that we had to eat fast and leave. We will definitely return."

  • "Friday night confirmed dinner reservations and we waited 20 min for a table, rude staff, and to top it all they only had 2 items available on their entire appetizer menu not even French onion soup REALLY!!! ordered a vodka tonic the tonic was flat asked if they could change the tank bring a new one answer was NO! You'd think after all that they would comp our drinks or appetizers we did not want or at least a desert but NO. this place and management needs to get its act together if they're going to be in the service industry. I should have known better and gone to Mr A's Bertrand knows how to run a restaurant lesson learned. save your money skip this place and head next door to Mr A's if you want outstanding Management Food & service"

  • "Used a Groupon to try Hexagon for the first time after having read reviews and heard good things through friends. The food overall was very good. Lobster bisque had a great flavor to it, but unfortunately no lobster. Ceaser salad also had a good flavor but the lettuce appeared to be a bit old. Entree's on the other hand were awesome. Mediterranean sea bass was prepared to perfection and my husbands steak was cooked perfectly and excellent. For desert we had the soufflé and chocolate cake. Both were excellent with the soufflé light, fluffy and rich. Overall we had a great experience and will definitely dine here again."

  • "The $$$ nature of this French eatery deserves a bit more delivery in the food department. Presentations were lackluster, considering the well-appointed menu. Service was attentive and friendly."

  • "The service was attentive but was really disappointed when I came here to use a $100 coupon. The food was just not flavorful. The French are known for their sauces and I was just disappointed with the braised ribs....they looked great but lacked flavoring and I rarely salt my food and this meal I keep saying pass the salt shaker."

  • "Our waiter Mark was superb! Celebrated my little brothers birthday, had a great table in tye front corner and it was amazing. We had the pâté, beef bouganon, escargot, Niçoise salad & grand marnier crepes, moscato and each dish was fantastic. My little brother was given a chocolate mousse filled Bon Bon with a candle to celebrate the occasion, it was perfect we will be back."

  • "Have dined several times at this restaurant and always enjoyed it. This evening was deplorable. Stood at reception desk for 20 minutes before anyone seated us (had reservations) and that was the bartender. Had to ask for water, bread, which was cold, wine list, the bottle wasn't available, the food was cold and scanty, the soufflé we ordered wasn't available as the "oven wasn't working". So that explains why the bread was cold as was the lobster. Love this neighborhood bar but the evening was embarrassing."

  • "If when you spend your money in a restaurant and you have an expectation of value then I would not go here. The bartender, host and most particular the waiter have no interest in welcoming you. The host walked us to the table, put the menu's on the table and walked away. The waiter had so many other things on his mind I am not sure why he came to work. I can't recall a time at a restaurant being so completely ignored. The restaurant was busy so there must be a fair number of people who don't care about service. But when the bill can easily top $100 I prefer some value. I will never visit again."

  • "We arrived about 15min early for our reservation. We planned on sitting in the bar but a server came and sat us immediately. We were impressed. And then we sat there for about 15min. and no one came over to greet us or offer water. We felt invisible. There were at least three other employees (servers?) that walked near us but never acknowledged us. Finally the server who sat us came over to us and said that he was sorry and he would "now" take care of us. ?? We were limited on time so we ordered soup and wine immediately not knowing when we might see it. We heard 2 other tables asking about their food so we asked about our food as it was taking a long time. The food was good but overall, we were disappointed. The walk to theGlobe was great"

  • "I returned to Hexagone after an average experience in the bar the night before. This time, my table was in the dining room. Superb service, a good drink, and an amazing steak and lobster entree all combined to create a memorable evening at this great spot."

  • "I accepted a seat in the bar area. This was not a good move on my part. The food was fine; the service, however, needed improvement. In all honesty, this was not the fault of the server/bartender, Mark. The task of waiting tables and being the only bartender for the entire restaurant, would a challenge for anyone. Also, the Happy Hour menu is misleading as to the price of a non-well martini; the menu indicates $9.75 (I might be off a bit on the exact listed price) but, in reality, you're charged $12.00 for what proved to be a pretty watered down Grey Goose."

  • "We were on our way to a concert, and told the waiter. He was also the bartender, and the restaurant was busy. 45 minutes after we arrived we finally got our very tasty dinner served, no bread, no drinks offered. If you have LOTS of time, this is fine."

  • "The food was excellent but the portions were too small for the price. I ordered the Beef Bourgignon and went away a bit hungry. One of my friends ordered a pasta dish which was plentiful and the other ordered the short ribs which seemed to be plentiful. They were out of French wines that night! A Wednesday! And when we mentioned Crepes Suzettes for dessert the waiter went across the street for the orange juice. Service and ambiance were outstanding and it was pleasantly quiet. We were seated in a corner by the windows so a distance from the bar."

  • "We enjoyed a lovely lunch at Hexagone. We ordered the Grilled Chicken Caesar and Cobb Salads. Both salads were presented beautifully and delicious. The menu has lots of varieties of French cuisine. Perfect place for a Pre-theatre matinee lunch. "

  • "I like Hexagone and have been there at least six times, but I never feel a happy vibe from them. Our waiter was great, but it just isn't a place that feels welcoming. Obviously we go back anyway, but it would be nice to be greeted at the door with the attitude that we are valued guests."

  • "My friends and I love this place and often go there pre-theater. The food is delicious, and the wait staff very personable. We were there last Friday with a Goupon, and at first they wouldn't honor it because there was a special event that evening. We said we would be gone before the special event started as we had theater tickets. Our waiter actually called the owner at home and got permission for the use of the Groupon! What a guy! We all ate the top sirloin with bernaise sauce and a delicious ratatouille. We also shared their signature Bombe for dessert. All of this and free parking to boot! Can't beat it. We'll be back sometime before the Old Globe summer season ends."

  • "We had a lovely waiter who had a very distinct French accent. One couldn't ask for better service. I had the green salad with apples etc. which was very good and generous. I also had the escargot and the sweetbreads. I think the sweetbreads were the best I've ever had. It was only the barest crispy covering and it was perfect, with a delicious light gravy. We ordered a nice Zinfandel for the meal. We all ordered dessert. All of us (4) were pleased with our different choices. The atmosphere is formal yet friendly. There was an intimate outdoor area where patrons can eat, but we ate inside. This is the third time I've eaten at Hexagon but it certainly won't be the last!"

  • "We arrived on time to eat prior to a theater show. There was no maitre'd to greet us or take us to the table we waited 10 minutes for someone to notice us, we then had to wait another 10 minutes for a table to be prepared; the table was at the back of the restaurant so we could not be seen; another 10 minutes for them to give us menus and get our drinks; we finally ordered letting them know the theater time, they advised us on the 'quickest' dishes - a smoked salmon appetiser and entrees being bouef bourginion and coque au vin; 20 minutes later everything arrived at the same time; but by then we had no time to eat as the production was going to start in 25 minutes. My advise is do not bother to visit this restaurant. "

  • "I liked the French Market, so went to Hexegon expecting the same great food; but was very disappointed. The sea bass was not fresh and the lamb shank was good but not excellent by any means. The salad was excellent, but the escargot flavor was poor. The veggies and potatoes were very good. The service was excellent as was ambience."

  • "Although the food took a little longer than I thought acceptable, but when it arrived it was well worth the extra few minutes. The beef bourgeon was rich in flavor, and melted in my mouth. Similar kudos on the scallops with grapefruit and short ribs. A bit noisy... but we could still have a conversation without raising our voices. Reasonable yet elegant. Nicely done. "

  • "Had heard good things about Hexagone so wanted to give it a try. Everything my wife and I ordered was outstanding. Mike our waiter provided the type of service you always hope for when dining out at a nice place like this. The menu offers an array of choices so there should be something for any one in your party. We will be back again for sure and will try something new from the menu! "
