A word from Heavy Seas Alehouse
Heavy Seas Alehouse is a place where sailors tell stories but pyrates make legends! It is high time fans of Heavy Seas Beer are able to experience Baltimore’s best and locally owned craft brewery in its own ship. Our menu features fresh and seasonal ingredients that we source locally whenever possible. The dishes are simple in appearance with bold and assertive flavors that stand up to the intense beers we are known for…ARRRRGGGHHHH! The Alehouse is located in the Tack Factory building and combines the charm and character of the historic space with the bold industrial elements reminiscent of the Holland Tack Factory that occupied the building for more than 90 years. • "Great to meetup with friends for a casual dinner and some good beer."

  • "Food was great. Service was slow and our unknowledgeable. I think he may have been new? ?"

  • "Had previously enjoyed a mid-afternoon stop here on a Sunday afternoon. While we enjoyed the eclectic mix of patrons and quality of the food, service was slow and the noise level was much to high to be able to enjoy a conversation. It also made it very difficult to hear our waitress. Granted, we are probably in the upper end of the age group there that night, so noise was an issue for us."

  • "Table was ready when we arrived. Server was knowledgable and attentive but not too much so. Fun, not very expensive meal."

  • "My family and I were looking for a fun yet laidback place to eat on our way to a hotel near BWI. This place was amazing. Their beer selection was limited but what they had on there they did well (HIGHLY recommend the Heavy Seas Small Craft Warning Über Pils). Not only was the beer great, but the food was OUT OF THIS WORLD. The onion rings (which we got as an appetizer) were as big as doughnuts and just as delicious. The burger was seriously the BEST I've ever had with a very high quality meat. The Cuban sandwich was also great, although my husband and I split each of those items and he was seriously regretting that he had to part with half of his burger). Ambiance and atmosphere as well as the architecture of the building were great."

  • "As always the bar is jumping, the beer is excellent, great food and the parking easy. Will come back often."

  • "As we dug in to our meal, we had diner's remorse. We saw several meals being served that we must return to try. Oh yeah, the beer is outstanding."
    Dined on 2/15/2014
  • "We love the environment and the beer, plus it's very kid friendly and the staff is usually very nice with our kids. Sandwiches can be hit or miss. Either pretty good or just eh. We really enjoyed the food our visit before, this time it was okay. The beer and child friendly environment is a solid 4 stars."

  • "We had an amazing time. There was a wide variety of foods on the regular menu and a lots of fun drinks."

  • "I went and found that the lines to the taps were dirty. It left a butter taste in the beverages. Waiter was nice but forgot 1/3 of my meal. Manager was nice and comped an item off the tab. Overall, it is a rough neighborhood, and if you werent going for the beer, you probably shouldn't"

  • "Made a last minute reservation for an impromptu Valentine's Day dinner....first time at Heavy Seas and frankly, none of us are beer drinkers so we weren't sure what to expect. Ordered Margaritas from the bar that were horrible, but our waiter was gracious and realized that the bartender left out a key ingredient. He was great, and fixed things quickly. We ordered a bunch of appetizers to share... Had the meat/cheese plate, raw oysters, steamed mussels, hushpuppies. Everything was delicious and we even ordered 2 more rounds of oysters & another meat/cheese plate. The combination of delicious food and truly exceptional service made it a surprisingly great evening. Would definitely go back. Wish I got the waiter's name. He was awesome."

  • "The food here was really good. We really got a taste for great seafood here. Our server was incredible. He was very educated on all the beers that they served there. Will definitely return again."

  • "Quiet snowy evening meant that there was a light crowd. Tasty fies but Kobe beef style burger was undercooked and lacked flavor. Great beers and beautiful facility."

  • "We really enjoyed our time at Heavy Seas! The beer and wine selection is excellent!"

  • "Heavy Seas Alehouse is a great place to go with a small or large group of friends. Even on a Saturday night they, were still able to accommodate myself and 10 friends and they did so very well out server did a great job making sure we we're taken care of. The food here great and the their beers even better. I Highly recommended to all of my friends."

  • "On a cold and snowy Sunday, we had the most fabulous time at Heavy Seas. Very friendly, and attentive waitress. Enjoyed everything."

  • "I have been to Heavy Seas several times (Dinner with friends, Dinner with Family, Brunch with a large group), and each time the food has been excellent and the service attentive. While the menu is not large, there has always been a number of items from which to choose, from standards to unusual. For example, at brunch we had orders that ranged from Pancakes and sunny side up eggs to crab cake with a pouched egg and remoulade, not to mention sweet potato fritters that melt in your mouth, and cheesecake with fresh egg nog ice cream. I recommend Heavy Seas for any occasion."

  • "We went for an after work dinner out expecting, a grungy bar and bar food. It was a very comfortable grungy bar with a dining section. The food selection was superb and it tasted even better. Novel tastes, high quality gourmet presentation. Server was down to earth, knowledgeable and always there before you needed to call her. But jeans and a teeshirt dress is more common than not. There are parallels to John Stevens Pub in Fells Point."

  • "It was a little busy the night we went so our food took a while to come out. Other than that, it was a good experience."

  • "We went here on New Year's eve because it was conveniently located near the NYE party and we didn't want to spend an arm and a leg for NYE dinner this year. I'd say the brewery is likely best for lunch and keep your expectations on the mid-level for the "gastro-pub" concept. The food was just OK. I imagine simple food like burgers are probably pretty good, but they didn't offer them on the evening menu on NYE. A bit disappointed since it seems many are recommending the place.... maybe it's because their beer really is one of the best micro-brews in Baltimore."

  • "We were seated promptly but near the front door, so there was a lot of activity around our table. Our waiter was trying way too hard and spoke softly so was difficult to hear. The sausage sliders were delicious, but my lamb was dry and my dining companion's burger was not prepared as ordered and had to be sent back. The greens on the side salad were delicious and fresh. Overall, it was good, but a little overpriced for the value."

  • "Based on its name you might expect it to have good beers and typical bar food. In reality, this alehouse is far different. The beers are indeed excellent, especially the complex cask conditioned brews or varieties that are harder to find in stores. There's excellent cocktails too that often use some of their beers in it to complement the flavors. What was most surprising was how amazing the food was. I've been many times for lunch and dinner and everything is always prepared perfectly with amazing flavor combinations, presentation, and freshness of much more expensive restaurants. Steak, scallops, local oysters on the half-shell or in a po-boy... it exceeds my expectations every time. It is our favorite restaurant in Baltimore!"

  • "We've been to Heavy Seas Alehouse before. I split the crab cake appetizer and ordered the mushroom burger as an entree. Both were really good. My friend had the vegetarian plate, and I think I will order that the next time I go. The waitstaff is pleasant and well-informed."

  • "I have eaten at Heavy Seas numerous times before. The food is really good and its not terribly expensive. Its great for a date night in the cozy back part of the restaurant or come with a group for New Years and its a complete blast."

  • "Since it opened this restaurant has always been one of our favorites spots. My wife's choices are always this place or Woodberry Kitchen. This should tell you the quality of this restaurant. The beer selection is outstanding. There is a flavor for everyone. Also it is kid friendly and there is a bowling alley upstairs for afterwards."

  • "Not too often can you find a place with both great craft beer and great gourmet gastropub fare. Being out of towners, we were taking a chance but felt good about the reviews from others that this was going to be at least average. Instead it amazing. Not knowing the place though, we opted for the build-your-own burgers. And we were not disappointed. Burgers amongst the best we've had. My wife had "peg leg onions" on hers and couldn't stop raving. The smoked cheddar and bacon on mine were to die for. "Side order" of onion rings came out as a tower of thick cut rings that brought tears of onion joy. Super kid friendly too. High quality food for them and some fun table activity books to keep them busy. Can't wait to come back."

  • "The Alehouse has a wonderful feel when you walk in. Like your favorite bar from college mixed with a nice neighborhood restaurant. The food was excellent, the beer menu (and beer) great, and our server was a lot of fun and very knowledgeable. Next time we are in Baltimore, we will go back."

  • "Food is really good, beer choices are excellent. I like the ambience a lot. Service was very friendly, but we waited FOREVER for our food. Over an hour for a burger seems excessive, sorry. Overall, I still really like this place, but they have to work on getting the food on the table faster than that."

  • "Great restaurant wrapped around great beer offerings"
    Dined on 12/7/2013
  • "Excellent atmosphere and decor, however the crab cakes are not up to Maryland standards at all and the onion rings have so much breading they look like donuts (and are very greasy and lacking in taste, although that is just my opinion - some of the others dining with me thoroughly enjoyed them). However, the Kobe burger, oysters, and beer (of course!) all received rave reviews by both myself and those dining with me. I can't wait to go back and try some of the other menu items!"

  • "We went on a Monday night and enjoyed excellent burgers and sandwiches and fabulous Heavy Seas beers. The crowd was light, the food was great and a few of us even enjoyed beer cocktails. Service was attentive and knowledgeable about the beers. This will become a must visit on each trip to Baltimore."

  • "Usually love Heavy Seas. We've had great meals before. Looking forward to a nice evening, w/o our sweet little boy. Any parent knows how important the kid-free night is. Planned dinner at HS months ago after having a weekend to paint our house. HS was quiet when we arrived. Our waiter, who was a blast, informed us of the menu available for dinner, which was brunch. Seriously HS, brunch at 8pm on Sunday - we should have been warned. We settled on crab dip, Burger and special: Salisbury Steak. You cant fool Bmoreans on crab stuff; the dip was lame and no crab. The burger, ordered MR, was hard and burnt. The steak was no different but with lots of gravy. No color on SS plate: just brown/white. Paprika fries highlight of meal. HS heartbreak :("

  • "Too bad there isn't a choice for "amazing beer selection," since the wine list doesn't count. Food was very good but when taken as a whole with their brews, it was outstanding. Many cask-conditioned choices, too."

  • "I had been to the Heavy Seas Alehouse before, so I knew about their ability to match foods with certain beers produced by Heavy Seas. However, the highlight of my night was accepting the waiter's recommendation to try their pumpkin ale, a taste that matched nicely with my crab imperial and pretzel appetizer as well as my steak dinner. Along with the ambiance and friendly wait staff, the food was fresh and cooked to temp with the right amount of seasoning."

  • "The service was good (we came early--before 6p) and were in a bit of a hurry, our server did a great job with our party of six people. However, two of the people in our group ordered the matzoh soup--one bowl was barely filled with the soup, and both were not quite room temperature. One of the sausage sliders was undercooked, which created a problem later, for the person who ordered it and did not send it back."

  • "Food service was a little slow but we had a FANTASTIC waiter named Bert. He made waiting a little longer for food not so bad. Limit menu selections and a little more expensive for drinks. Overall had a great time and a close walk to other bars in Harbor East"

  • "Great food and our waiter, Zach, was tremendous. Enjoyed the evening. Time to receive orders could have been shorter but the food was hot and really good so this was not an issue for us. We'd go again or recommend it to others."

  • "This was our first visit to the alehouse and we lucked into the first day of Baltimore Beer Week! What fun! We sampled 2 flights including the cask beers and settled on the cask opened that day for a pint with lunch. The Red Sky was outstanding. And the food was delicious. We particularly liked the homemade chips. We tried the oyster po' boy and veggie Panini. Even though it is a 2 hour round trip to get there, we will return to try other beers and food."

  • "Love that they're open for lunch on Fridays now. The oyster po' boy sandwich is really good and also try the beer battered onion rings. Of course the beer is great. If you like IPAs try the loose cannon, very hoppy taste but not overpowering."

  • "Went here to watch the Ravens game. Not too crowded, and plenty of great seating to watch the game. Food and drinks were awesome. Everything came out great, and there were plenty of tasty beers to choose from. Place has a great pub feel to it, comfortable booths, very nicely designed. Would def come back again!"
