  • "Food was good, but not spectacular. Portions are a bit small for the price. Nice atmosphere; unhurried. Attentive wait staff. Adult clientele, not a place for kids. Really enjoyed the guitarists last Sunday."

  • "Nice place to enjoy some live music and tasty breakfast for a lazy Sunday brunch. The servers can get a bit overwhelmed by the scale of the crowd at times, but everyone is laid back and friendly."

  • "In Houston for business and this was recommended. The hostess was friendly and personable and held our table as we were running late. The restaurant itself is a beautiful, historic spot and the interior really feels authentic and is beautifully appointed. Great atmosphere, great service and the food was great. I have no idea what their dinner is like, but lunch was excellent, so I would expect the same for the evening. Good recommendation."

  • "Great food and had a great time. The only issue I would point out is that service could have been a bit more on point. Was not greeted within 2 minutes, took a little longer for our food, but they did comp a few things."

  • "I appreciated the moderate noise level, which is hard to find these days. "Moderate" for me is good because my hearing isn't what it used to be."

  • "We dined before Cher and Pat Benatar and everything was awesome. Felicia waited onm us and was perfection!"

  • "This was our first visit to Hearsay. The atmosphere was cool and the service was outstanding. However, the food was not so great. The filet mignon was perfectly cooked, but tough (I didn't know this was possible with a filet). The waiter immediately offered to prepare a new one, which was also tough. Maybe they are not getting the best cuts of meat or maybe it was frozen, not sure. We really liked Hearsay and I want to give it another chance. Hopefully this was just a fluke."

  • "Came for an early brunch [one of the advantages of Hearsay is that it opens at 10 on Sunday] and was taken to an upstairs table. While I don't mind being sent upstairs, I DO mind that none of the staff seemed to have been assigned there for the first 10 minutes we were there. Finally, we got the hostess to take our drink orders and when those were brought, we went ahead and ordered. It was difficult to know who was waiting on our table since at least 4 different people were involved for the hour we were there. The food was top notch as it usually is. However, it seems as if a number of items have been removed from the menu. No more rodeo tacos or rodeo omelette. No more croissants if you want to nibble. Still good: bottomless mimosas!"

  • "Great food, good location. Excellent service, great character. Love the brunch menu a perfect mix of lunch and breakfast items. the bottomless mimosas are perfect!"

  • "Great place to have dinner before a show. Great food and a fun atmosphere."

  • "Hearsay has a great atmosphere & my expectations were high. Sadly, none of my expectations were met. The food was under seasoned & subpar. My waitress was not knowledgeable about the food or beverages. Needless to say, I wouldn't go again."

  • "Made a reservation for dinner before heading to Wortham to catch a show. Wanted some wine and drinks, great food, and quick service. Found all three in Hearsay. It was a really fun start to the evening, and I would definitely return. The food was tasty, the waiter knowledgable and very attentive. We especially enjoyed the great drinks from the bar. Parking was available and free on the street , and it was a quick walk down to Wortham."

  • "Hearsay may not come up on an initial lists of your favorite restaurants in Houston; but it should. The upscale American restaurant appears to have been made out of the crawlspace between its adjoining buildings, which makes for a cozy, intimate feel. The food has been amazing every visit, whether it be for breakfast, brunch, or dinner (I have done all three). The live entertainment adds to the unique atmosphere that you will have trouble finding elsewhere in Houston. I couldn't find a negative comment to make about Hearsay if I wanted. Reservations are recommended if you would like to get a quick seat; this place fills up fast! Highly recommended restaurant. You will most likely find me here when you book your next reservation."

  • "We came here with out of town friends this past week. Hearsay is definitely a great place to take visitors to Houston. The food and atmosphere are both amazing. Plus, you can stroll around market square and visit some of the nearby bars after dinner. We had the blackened catch. It was absolutely delicious!"

  • "Dry brisket -- and lukewarm at best. Limp, soggy greens in the roasted beet salad. I would not recommend this place in any city, and especially not in a city with so many other fine places at which to dine."

  • "Had dinner at hearsay this past weekend for my younger brother's birthday. As a party of 3, we were easily accomodated (although we did make reservations to be safe). To start, we ordered a few drinks, including one of the specialty cocktails which was made well. As an appetizer, we had the beer battered asparagus, which were out of this world, amazing!! As an entree, I had the brisket sandwich, which had good flavor, and was paired with tasty fries. My brother (who considers himself a foodie), got the stuffed chicken and ate every last bit, and loved it! For his birthday, they presented us with one of their signature desserts (a chocolate cake), which was absolutely amazing and gone in seconds! Additionally, the service was superb!"

  • "Fast service when asked for so we could get started at 6:30 and out by 7:30 to make the show at 8:00. Food and atmsophere was great, as always. Yes. Yes. Yes. Give it a try."

  • "I've been searching for a great downtown restaurant in Houston and was lucky enough to stumble across this one through a colleague at work. The restaurant presents a vintage atmosphere in an old (but renovated) downtown building, close to Market Square. Music was great, noise level was accomodating for small talk and food/drinks were delicious. Will definitely make my way back here."

  • "My husband & I have eaten 4 different times at Hearsay and the food has always been delicious. However, this past Sunday the chicken & waffles were terrible. They used to serve a nicely battered & fried chicken breast, we got chicken tenders that had an odd taste and were chewy. Yuck! Our waitress informed us that they had a new Chef. They better get the old Chef's recipes."

  • "We had a great time listening to the guitar music while having a wonderful lunch. We did come at 1:00 on Sunday and had really hoped to have the lunch menu. The chef was able to accommodate us on some fish items, which we loved! We will know now that it is really just brunch on Sundays (which looked good…we were just wanting lunch). Enjoyed the very lovely salmon!!! Few places have the thick, beautiful salmon cuts that you have now!!"

  • "Great service and food! I would recommend the Hearsay Gastro Lounge to all of our family and friends. We will have to another date night or a dinner night with friends. I could ask for better anniversary dinner it was very romantic ."

  • "The hostess was rude and grumpy. Informed us that the table was booked for another group two hours after we sat down despite the restaurant being nearly empty when we arrived and only half full when we left. Such a bad start to the experience which was not redeemed much by the food or table service. I feel Hearsay is getting a bit lazy, relying on the fact they do not have much competition nearby so will always be full. This experience certainly does not encourage me to return."

  • "My fiance and myself had an absolutely tremendous time at Hearsay! The food was great and the atmosphere was even better. However, the best part about our visit would definitely be the drinks and the service! Would definitely recommend and plan on attending sometime soon!!"

  • "We had no problem with our reservations. The drinks were smooth and perfect! Food came out in a timely manner even though the restaurant was packed. Quality of food was spot on! I would highly recommend this place to anyone that enjoys food! The bill wasn't too bad either."

  • "Really great space, would be perfect for a private party. Food was decent, small wine list."

  • "Great experience. The service was impeccable, from the hostess to the bartender while waiting on my party and our server. I followed the Yelp crowd and ordered the Peruvian Ceviche. We were not disappointed. The fish is obviously fresh. Based on that, I ordered the Espresso Blackened Catch (it was Redfish) and it was perfect. Flaky and not over done. Highly recommend this place."

  • "service was great...our waiter was so good i told him i wanted to take him home with me. The ambiance and the decor of the place is very warm and inviting. The steak was done just right...I would like to try everything on the menu. It was my man's birthday and we were well taken care of"

  • "The only problem I had was they only served brunch on saturdays and sunday and we were unaware of that. We had look at menu online and was disappointed when we couldn't order from main menu."

  • "I've been several times and the food is always innovative and excellent."

  • "The drinks and service were great. So was all the food except for the fried calamari appetizer. It was too greasy but the fried basil and calamari were flavorful but the grease must not have been hot enough because it was greasy. We managed to choke it down though. Corn and crab chowder was terrific and squash risotto was fabulous. The deviled egg appetizer was excellent. Toffe cake dessert was to die for. Yum! Reservations a must."

  • "I have been eyeing this place for awhile and finally took my mom and sister here for the sunday brunch. even with reservations it was a 20 minute wait. Then the food! The food was extremely distasteful. The crab omelette had eggs that were dry and overcooked with no seasoning in the filling, the taco filling wasnt hot and seems like it had been sitting around, the worst but most expensive dish was the steak benedicte. We ordered rare for the steak and poached eggs usually have that runny yolk but this one was solid and reminded me close of a hard boiled egg texture. Everything was bland and unappetizing. I am extremely disappointed although the interior charm of this place made the food settle a little bit better ."

  • "This was my second visit. I have been there for brunch and recently for dinner. I think the whole "look" of the restaurant is awesome. I love the exposed brick which was the first thing that made me more interested. I love the upstairs area and it seemed like a great place for a private party. I noticed the other people and their food so now I am more excited about trying some of the things they had....."

  • "I'd made reservations for a Sunday brunch for a girlfriend and myself. We were downtown for the symphony concert. Walked in and the place looked lively, energetic and fun. We were seated upstairs in the balcony area. Initial drinks served quickly. It was an hour to serve our food. The food was cold to warm at best. Flavors very good. The table next to us was seated just after us and had finished eating completely before we were served. All that being said I'm undecided whether to try the place again. Hit and miss service is a major drawback. All the staff were friendly so was it just our waitress being overloaded or unorganized? Don't know. Wish I knew. I think the bar looked great and fun. I might try that if I go a next time."

  • "Our server Melise was the hit of my wife's birthday brunch at Hearsay. This was our 3rd visit to the restaurant; our 1st brunch experience. The food was well prepared and my wife enjoyed the Crab Benedict immensely. At the end of the meal, when Melise asked if there was anything else she could do for us; we asked about desert. Typically Hearsay does not offer desert with the brunch menu; however, when my wife mentioned it was her birthday - Melise made a special trip and presented her with a piece of triple layer chocolate cake on a platter with a birthday inscription in chocolate sauce!! We will return again when in the Houston theatre district."

  • "Not really a restaurant. More of a bar for the younger crowd. Food was OK but not great. Good service. Very noisy on Friday--not great for an evening out."

  • "This might be a chain, but that idea or feeling never occurs to you while eating here. The food is excellent as well as the friendly and efficient service. Everything about the restaurant makes you want to come right back again."
