Diner Reviews
  • "Went on a Sat night so keep that in mind. The menu is unusual, and the food is very good. We waited about 1.5 hrs to get our main course after we got there. Also, there are minimal offerings for a vegetarian so beware if your group has one! The waitress was terrific, attentive. I think the long delay was in the kitchen as they were overwhelmed. "

  • "First timers, food was great...but: You need new chairs 1. They need to invest in new chairs...the ones we sat in have seen their day and were very uncomfortable. 2. Although it is stated on the menu, most of our party of six did not see that an automatic gratuity of 20% was added for party of six. I can see parties of 8 or 10 and above, but in my opinion...that is ridiculous. When the "men" paid the bill, I mentioned that there was an auto-tip, but it was too late...they had all tipped 20+ percent so our OK to good server got a 40 to 45% tip and never mentioned a word. "

  • "My husband loved his meal (tater tot dish). I had the meatloaf in a can. Gravy way too thick and no depth of flavor. Mac and cheese good but very little sauce on it. Thought for the price service was too casual. And over $150 for 3 people (no alcohol mind you) just seemed too high for what we got."

  • "My husband and I celebrated our 8th Anniversary at Haute Dish. The food was both ascetically stunning and amazingly tasty. Without a doubt this meal is in our top three restaurant meals we have ever eaten. We ordered the HD special as well as an extra appetizer and the steak and potato dinner and then split all the items in order to taste the most food. Every dish was as good as the last. I only wish they had brought one item out at a time, as we were sharing everything, instead of bringing both appetizers and both main dishes together but we didn't ask for this. The design of the restaurant itself is nothing special but I appreciated that focus was on making excellent food."

  • "Group of us went here before a show. Food is expensive but we decided on plates to share. The staff was friendly, fun, and very professional. We will be back!"

  • "The food was out of this world! The lobster mac n cheese appetizer was amazing. I had the tator tot hot dish and the presentation was not what I expected, classy version of a hot dish and amazing flavor. The only disappointment was the Cosmo martini but it could have just been the bartender as I've always had amazing drinks at this restaurant."

  • "We had a very good dinner and our server was lovely. We wanted to go to the bar and have an after dinner drink and we could not buy one. The bar was 3/4 full and every bar table was empty with two bartenders. We sat at a table for 15 min with no service, then we to the bar and both of the bartenders were so engaged in conversation they could not be bothered... We left with a bad taste"

  • "Great service we had a reservation for 645 and was seated immediately. Waiter explained every dish. Drinks were good; get the Minnesota mule. The pork and beans were excellent."

  • "We enjoyed the food, the HD Classic was very good, the Bourbon menu was fantastic, our server Mallory was great. A very special night with the best of service, thank you Haute Dish."

  • "We loved the taste of our food - but we could barely see it! And it was very noisy! So this is not the place to go if you want to talk or if you want to relax."

  • "Fun spot for a girls night out or a date. Menu changes seasonally and is full of surprises. Interesting takes on favorite comfort foods, innovative cocktails and delicious desserts. A must try."

  • "My husband and I opted for the 6-course meal. It was definitely a very good deal but I think they are going to bump the price up. We were given a fennel soup shooter to start things off, which was not part of the 6 courses. It was so good that it sort of overshadowed some of the entrees to come. I was a big fan of the steak and eggs with bloody mary oyster shooter. The sweetbreads had a nice texture but I was a little disappointed they chose to disguise it as a Chinese dish. The arctic char was pretty good. We were both disappointed by the pork x3 dish. The palate cleanser (pineapple sorbet) was also wonderful. I enjoyed the buttermilk tart for dessert but my husband wasn't as enthusiastic. Overall, we weren't that impressed."

  • "Food was all really good. The tater tot hautedish was amazing, along with steak and eggs and chicken dumplings. We went with a group if 10 and everyone really liked their food. The service was not what I was expecting, the server frequently had to be reminded about our drinks. Overall good experience."

  • "Haute Dish was a fun experience, except for our waiter. We requested to move tables away from the front door(because it was freezing), and our waiter was rude and sassy. Then, throughout the meal, he kept returning to the subject of a different table, and then finally offered us one at the end when we were putting our coats on. The food was surprisingly good, the restaurant has a nice ambience, but the sassy waiter definitely dampened the experience."

  • "We came with high expectations that ultimately fell short. The dining room was dark, crowded and felt similar to a lodge. Although our table was waiting for us when we arrived, our server was not. We sat at our table waiting for almost 10 minutes before being greeted by our server and then a few more minutes before she returned with water. The menu does not give very in-depth descriptions of the menu items or show any pictures and our server seemed annoyed when we asked questions. Our food was good and had a nice presentation. The pork belly was crispy and had good flavor, as did the Arctic char and kale. The tater tot haute dish while tasty, was cold. Our other entrees were good, but not exceptional or all that memorable."

  • "My wife and I love Haute Dish; it's one of our favorite places to eat - especially during the colder months when nothing in the Twin Cities is as good as the tater tot hot dish. We even chose Haute Dish to celebrate Valentine's Day this year and had the unfortunate experience of being seated by the kitchen and head chef, Landon Schoenefeld. While trying to enjoy our food, we listened to him yell and swear at his staff. I understand the restaurant business can be stressful, but screaming f'bombs when you're standing 5 ft from your guests really shows how little you care about their experience. Hopefully this is an isolated situation that others haven't had to experience..but we plan to spend our time at places where this doesn't happen."

  • "This is one of the best places to get a great meal in Minneapolis. It is right up there with many places that are priced much higher. They provide a great menu, with many options. I can honestly say, I haven't had something I don't like."

  • "The food was great. We attended Resuraunt Week. We both especally loved the Mac and Cheese and the tot hot dish. The wait staff were great. Our server was very knowlegable, helpfull, attentive and good humored."

  • "THE place to bring out-of-town visitors. They have always loved it and want to come back next visit. THE PLACE for special occasions. It's been great for birthdays, anniversaries and before (or after) downtown concerts. THE place to transform a non-occasion into a special occasion - Chef Landon and the entire staff always treats us like VIPs. Yup, five stars all the way!"

  • "We visited Haute Dish during Minneapolis Restaurant Week. They offered a prix fixe menu of the most popular items from their menu (drinks/desserts optional add-ons). The food was very good. My favorite course was the appetizer - my boyfriend and I both had the egg-in-hole, beef tartar and Bloody Mary oyster shot. My main dish - porketta - was a bit odd, a piece of ham wrapped in bacon, but still good. We opted to add on dessert (extra charge), bread pudding with fermet-soaked pears, which was delicious. The only drawback was our table - it was between the bar and a quieter dining area, and EVERY waiter walked past our table as well as most guests. If you make a reservation - ask for a booth or a table in the back."

  • "Haute Dish is one of my favorite places to visit for Restaurant Week because they serve some of their best, most popular dishes at a fraction of the price! The tater tot haute dish is a classic, as is the pork and beans. Everything I've ever had at Haute Dish is a combination of exquisite presentation and rich, full flavor. This visit I was especially impressed with the porketta (served with kale gremolata, celery root purée and polenta) and the chocolate creme brûlée cake (moist cake layers with custard creme filling and toffee crunch bits). The only miss was that we had an 8:15 reservation but weren't seated until 8:40."

  • "We absolutely loved Haute Dish. We have been wanting to go since we moved to Minneapolis a few years back and were not disappointed. The dishes were adventurous for us; we are used to dining at burger and pizza places. Our easy favorite at Haute Dish was the Tator Tot Haute Dish. If we could have eaten 3 more plates without looking like crazy people, we would have! Thank you for the great experience."

  • "Haute Dish made "comfort food" gourmet. We had an incredible three course run. I would absolutely recommend this restaurant to any of my friends. Everything on the menu was fantastic, and I suggest ordering something slightly out of your comfort zone for a real treat!"

  • "There's nothing not to love about Haute Dish! The drink selection is great and the food is amazing and always a little surprising. The fries are amazing and we found out why they don't send out ketchup with them! Though I'm not a burger person, I had the everything burger and I wouldn't change a thing about it. I will be back for more wonderful meals."

  • "This intimate restaurant offers interesting and inspired food, good service and a creative, affordable bar program. We enjoyed the fix price menu during restaurant week. I will be back for the $10 burger and beer at happy hour!"

  • "I was very pleased with the food and the ambience of Haute Dish. However, I was probably asked 5 or 6 times byt different staff if I was done and if he/she could take my plate. That made me feel very rushed and uncomfortable."

  • "Went to Haute Dish for restaurant week. Thought they have a great name and a great twist on Midwestern food. Though the food was tasty, their restaurant-week portions were both embarrassingly small and embarrassingly expensive. If it wasn't for my wife giving me some of hers, I wouldn't have been full- and I spent $77, including tip. I also think the ambiance is really boring. If you're going to do a Midwestern restaurant, add some Midwestern flavor! That restaurant could have been anywhere in the US. Good food, but way over priced and not worth it."

  • "Haute dish is a fairly good restaurant. The steak was delicious, cooked exactly how I wanted it. The food was beautifully plated. The beer list is small but good. La terrible was my personal favorite. Overall the experience was worth it."

  • "We visited on Sunday. It was not super busy. I ordered the tasting menu. South Dakota salad was pretty and tasty, mac and cheese came over an hour later and was cold but flavorful, Tator Tot Haute Dish was a full 50 minutes later and did not live up to the hype. Hubbie had the arctic chard and son had the steak. Had the meal been served in under 90 minutes, this review would be different. Sorry. There are too many options to not get it right."

  • "If you are a foodie and a Minnesotan at heart, this place is a great dining option for you. I had the HD Classic - 3 smaller portions of menu favorites - starting with a wedge salad taken to the next level, then crab mac & cheese, and finally Tator Tot Haute Dish - braised short ribs, French green beans, and crouquettes. Even though we really didn't save room for dessert, it was on the house because our table wasn't ready at our reserved time. Pretty amazing desserts too. So save room."

  • "Overall my wife and I were disappointed. Service was great but we were basically forced to buy the tasting menu for $60 a piece. A bit pricey but not a problem considering its Valentine's day. What the problem is that they only had one "tasting menu" option that seemed to center around beef. I understand by limiting options they can maximize throughput on a lucrative day but it would of been nice to have a couple more options. My wife and I are not vegetarians but also not beef lovers, especially beef taretar. After tip and taxes dinner came to $200 and that will be the last time I spend any money at Haute Dish. Being forced to eat something that is not desirable is no fun."

  • "My wife and I went for dinner on V-Day. There was a pre-fixed 6-course menu. Unreal food. It was an amazing dining experience from a food perspective. We consider ourselves foodies and were more than happy with the food. We sat by the kitchen which was a lot of fun to watch the staff run and prep food for expo. Our only complaint- having dined with a pre-fixed, multiple course menu before, we appreciate a service that allows for some digestion to take place and palates to clear. We never had this chance during our dinner. Service was TOO GOOD. Courses would be taken away and immediately replaced. Don't get me wrong, the restaurant ran like a machine, but unfortunately, we never had a chance to just relax. However, FOOD WAS AMAZING."

  • "We attended Haute Dish on Valentine's day as a group of couples. We earned a private dining in the back of the restaurant which was quiet and appealing. They had a prix fixe tasting menu (6 course). The server/chef was able to accomodate one of the guests who was a vegetarian with pleasure. Every course was tasty tasty and tasty. It's a play on classic American dishes such as Steak and Eggs, Lobster Dumplings, seared scallops, etc. As a side note, they were a little skimpy on the dessert. Service staff was friendly, attention to guests was excellent."
